The stay was lovely staying in the cottages on site which were really cosy and felt like no way a disadvantage being a 2 minute walk from the hotel, maybe nicer as feeling more peaceful. The only thing I'd say about the room was that the tv wasn't smart so we couldn't log in or cast using streaming apps. It's not essential but I think a lot of people wouldn't mind going back to their rooms in the evening and watching a film. We were told by Reception Staff that the tv's weren't Smart, so this was across the board. The breakfasts had a lot of choice and staff were very professional. Unfortunately my friend's scrambled egg wasn't cooked properly and appeared to have been microwaved. The rest of the food that day and next day were fine though. The Spa has a friendly member of staff and an array of facilities. The only thing that was a minor problem is there is a mixed changing room and only two cubicles, which let us down a bit as we were waiting quite a while for other people to dry and get changed, seemingly oblivious anyone was waiting. The cocktail bar in the hotel has some lovely drinks from local companies such as Alnwick rum. Overall I'd recommend staying as the Hotel is stunning and very historic and we wandered around taking photos and got lost in the maze! I think the gripes around the outdated tv's in the rooms that aren't smart and only two cubicles in the spa slightly undermined the prestige of the hotel as you need to get the basics right. Would stay again.

Very luxurious and comfortable the only problem we had was the kingsize bed was 2 singles put together ànd the mattress topper did not stop thre being a distinct line down the center which was sometimes a bit uncomfortable. The breakfast gave a great choice amd was vert tasty. The pool was good but closed early 6pm itvwould hzbe been nice to enjoy the facilities

Hotel was very ornate and a beautiful setting for a wedding. A bit dated and worn in areas but that makes it charming. Too warm in the bedroom and couldn’t turn the bathroom radiator off which provided all the heat. Bed was comfy. Carpets needed to be cleaned. Gym had very basic and minimal equipment and floors were dirty and looked to have not been cleaned for while. Reception staff very friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely wonderful, staff were most helpful, the setting is second to none, gardens, views etc. Dining in the George Runciman restaurant was relaxed, a really lovely dining experience. Safe, secure parking in the grounds just a short stroll from reception. If you want to treat yourself to something special then Doxford Hall should be top of your 'bucket list'.

The only negatives were: 1. No member of staff in the cocktail bar for quite a while after I arrived to buy drinks 2. Dirty dishes and glasses were left on the tables in the lounge for a long time. 3. The changing rooms in the spa are inadequate - only two cubicles!

I thought the staff were superb (very friendly and helpful in every way), and hotel, clean, bright and lovely. My only criticism’s are, on arrival, the back of the kitchen is visable, and needs a quick tidy up. The front entrance is beautiful, but the first thing we saw was the kitchen waste, and parked next to a car with flat tyre which looked as though it had been there for many months! The spa/pool area needs an update/made to look more attractive/luxurious……. It is advertised as a spa hotel but we chose not to use this area! Also the bar area a little depressing/unattractive….. there are other areas which would make a great airy and inviting bar area to sit and meet other residents etc. However, overall a lovely stay and with a few easy wins it could be perfect 👌

Lovely character hotel in very peaceful surroundings. The staff were just lovely , friendly and chatty . Our room was in a good location and it was easy to get to the restaurant , bar and spa . The room was a good size and the towels were nice and soft, the hot water plentiful too. The only slight dent in the room was the condition of some of the fixtures and fittings . The carpet had quite a few stains on it , the shower settings were missing parts and the towel radiator missing coatings . That said everything worked just fine . The breakfast was good and the service excellent, good choice of fruit and juices . Hot food was tasty especially the eggs Benedict . The spa was enjoyable, the pool warm and the steam room and sauna just right . All in all an excellent and enjoyable stay .

Nice area and town of Alnwick is fabulous. Room was okay but maybe a bit rundown and in noisy area of hotel maybe because we booked third party instead of through the hotel. Not as lovely as hoped and steam room was out of order for our stay. The jacuzzi was also broken and had a sharp edge which my partner cut himself on. The breakfast was nice but facilities such as coffee bar and massage treatment felt overpriced. I paid for 30 mins but probably only got about 20 mins massage.

It was a lovely stay in the coach houses the only issue was in No 43 the lighting in the main room was poor but we still had a brilliant stay. In the Spa the number of loungers & seats were a problem for the number of people using the facilities. We didn’t arrive until the afternoon and other guest told us it worse in the morning. The massages were out of this world

We thought the room we stayed in was a little tired, and not overly clean. It’s a beautiful room but first impressions are from a badly stained carpet, the 2 armchairs were stained badly, net curtains ripped, a sticky fly screen on a lamp was full of dead flies. Looks as though it hasn’t really had any investment in the room for many years. The towels in the room were excellent and the staff were friendly.

Doxford Hall was in a very convenient location for visiting the area. Although, you do need to drive. The grounds are simply stunning. Beautifully maintained and relatively extensive. The hotel itself is lovely. Super clean, traditional, mostly bright and airy and again, well maintained. We had the four poster room which we loved. It was really big and was well organised. It had plenty of sockets, a USB port next to the bed, bottles of water and plenty of hangers etc. The bathroom was large, modern and spotlessly clean with a shower over the bath. The breakfast was very nice. Not the biggest selection I've seen but something for everyone. It was cooked and served very well. Mostly table service including pots of coffee and racks of toast. We had dinner both nights of our stay as we chose the DBB rate. We ate from the a la carte menu both nights. Every single mouthful was delicious. Beautifully cooked and presented. The house white was good too. There was also a set menu which looked great too. We only used the swimming pool, not the spa. The pool was a good size for a hotel pool. We enjoyed our swim. The changing room was adequate. Robes and slippers available on request (apparently). The staff across the hotel were, without exception, all friendly, open, happy and efficient. The hotel never appeared to be short staffed. We had a great two night stay. I would definitely return and recommend the hotel to friends.

I think this hotel is living on a reputation which expired some time ago. The decor is dated, not everything is as clean as it should be, the room we stayed in, although lovely and quiet it not being in the main building, left a lot to be desired on the electrics front. The breakfast food and staff were wonderful. They are obviously having the same problems as many hospitality venues in that they do not have enough staff but being shouted at by the barman in the cocktail bar to "come and get your own drinks as I've got a queue" did not enamour us to him. It's not a cheap place to stay and I don't feel that I could recommend it to anyone at this point in time.

Beautiful hotel, very clean and comfortable. Delicious food both breakfast and dinner. All staff were clean and smartly dressed and were very friendly and helpful. The dining room staff were very attentive and never let you feel forgotten about or missed out. A very relaxing stay.

Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa is in a quiet location with the potential to be a great place to stay. However, I would not recommend it due to lack of cleanliness, expensive restaurant and accommodation which was at a standard below that expected for the price. I stayed in a Superior Double Room in June and it was too warm because the window would not open as it was sealed by paint. The bathroom was spacious with luxury fixtures but it was not clean; there was a musty smell due to black mould underneath the toilet rim, this had not been cleaned for ages but was cleaned after complaint. The sink overflow and shower hose were also mouldy. The bathroom fan did not work and was filthy. The restaurant did not have enough capacity for all residents causing overflow into the Cocktail Bar which was hectic and not very comfortable. Whilst there was a good choice of food it was over-priced and subject to a discretionary 12.5% gratuity charge. This was excessive as the service did not even offer free tap water.

We ended up staying just one night instead of two due to the standard of the room and spa facilities. The room was super rundown; old furniture, marks and stains on everything. The spa was grimy and also rundown. Nothing like the photos and definitely not luxury. The staff were super understanding and very helpful and listened to our concerns. However would not recommend staying at Doxford Hall.

Beautiful hotel, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Our room was stunning with a great view of the garden complete with baby rabbits munching on the flowers. Food was great and so was the service. The grounds are lovely for a walk.

The breakfast was good and the service excellent, good choice of fruit and juices . Hot food was tasty especially the eggs Benedict . The spa was enjoyable, the pool warm and the steam room and sauna just right . All in all an excellent and enjoyable stay .

Waiting staff in the restaurant in the evening were dreadful. Very poor customer service. Did not know the wine list. Felt rushed to order. Had to send main course back as it was an insulting portion of cod loin ( two inch by one inch)for £30! No alternative offered as apparently kitchen closed. Manager returned the original dish which had been sat for ten minutes and said he would reduce cost by half price!! I refused the offer and therefore had nothing to eat. It was my partner's birthday meal so he and our friends ate alone. We then went to the bar and received equally poor service. The beer was flat and the bar man very off hand and grumpy. We asked if we could buy some nuts/ crisps at the bar. We were told to go up to the top floor and use a vending machine! We were told we would need to get changed at reception first! The room was sweltering and we couldn't open the window because the generator outside was so noisy. Air con did not work. Spa bath was not working either. The staff at breakfast were very professional and delivered the standard of service you would expect for this hotel and price. However the lack of consistency would deter us from returning

The stay was lovely staying in the cottages on site which were really cosy and felt like no way a disadvantage being a 2 minute walk from the hotel, maybe nicer as feeling more peaceful. The only thing I'd say about the room was that the tv wasn't smart so we couldn't log in or cast using streaming apps. It's not essential but I think a lot of people wouldn't mind going back to their rooms in the evening and watching a film. We were told by Reception Staff that the tv's weren't Smart, so this was across the board. The breakfasts had a lot of choice and staff were very professional. Unfortunately my friend's scrambled egg wasn't cooked properly and appeared to have been microwaved. The rest of the food that day and next day were fine though. The Spa has a friendly member of staff and an array of facilities. The only thing that was a minor problem is there is a mixed changing room and only two cubicles, which let us down a bit as we were waiting quite a while for other people to dry and get changed, seemingly oblivious anyone was waiting. The cocktail bar in the hotel has some lovely drinks from local companies such as Alnwick rum. Very luxurious and comfortable the only problem we had was the kingsize bed was 2 singles put together ànd the mattress topper did not stop thre being a distinct line down the center which was sometimes a bit uncomfortable. Doxford Hall was in a very convenient location for visiting the area. Although, you do need to drive. The grounds are simply stunning. Beautifully maintained and relatively extensive. The hotel itself is lovely. Super clean, traditional, mostly bright and airy and again, well maintained. We had the four poster room which we loved. It was really big and was well organised. It had plenty of sockets, a USB port next to the bed, bottles of water and plenty of hangers etc. The bathroom was large, modern and spotlessly clean with a shower over the bath. The breakfast was very nice. Not the biggest selection I've seen but something for everyone. It was cooked and served very well. Mostly table service including pots of coffee and racks of toast. We had dinner both nights of our stay as we chose the DBB rate. We ate from the a la carte menu both nights. Every single mouthful was delicious. Beautifully cooked and presented. The house white was good too. There was also a set menu which looked great too. We only used the swimming pool, not the spa. The pool was a good size for a hotel pool. We enjoyed our swim. The changing room was adequate. Robes and slippers available on request (apparently). The staff across the hotel were, without exception, all friendly, open, happy and efficient. The hotel never appeared to be short staffed. We had a great two night stay. I would definitely return and recommend the hotel to friends.

The breakfast food and staff were wonderful. They are obviously having the same problems as many hospitality venues in that they do not have enough staff but being shouted at by the barman in the cocktail bar to "come and get your own drinks as I've got a queue" did not enamour us to him. It's not a cheap place to stay and I don't feel that I could recommend it to anyone at this point in time.

A one night treat. Not the easiest place to find tucked away up a small country lane. Could do with more directional signage. Pleasant reception and checking in/escort to the suite. We booked the king Bed Suite ( Langley ). Extremely spacious with large lounge, seperate bedroom, bathroom and kitchen with beverage making facilities / fridge. Whole raft of empty cupboards. Don't know who would be using them all. No magnifying shaving mirror in the bathroom. Lots of period style furniture in the suite but looking a bit tired and faded. Some curtain hoops off the pole at one window and the curtain itself partially hanging off. Thorough checking needed before signing off for the next guest ! Excellent breakfast ( traditional and Vegan options ) with fruit/cereals/ juices etc. Need to bring the toast with or after the main plates otherwise its stone cold. Doxford has 2 meal options in the evening ; The market menu in the lounge bar but not a lot to choose from.Then there's Fine Dining in the main restaurant. Not a big fan but went with the flow . Had Canon/ Rack of Lamb with a couple of teaspoons of peas and carrot. The lamb was quite rare and amounted to 2 forkfuls., i would say it was a waste of money..Very pleasant gardens with a terrace to sit out and enjoy a glass of wine. Huge maze to try out . Should engage participants for several hours trying to find their way back out. Good heated swimming pool and spa with towels and dressing gowns.

Beautiful hotel, very clean and comfortable. Delicious food both breakfast and dinner. All staff were clean and smartly dressed and were very friendly and helpful. The dining room staff were very attentive and never let you feel forgotten about or missed out. A very relaxing stay.

The only negatives were: 1. No member of staff in the cocktail bar for quite a while after I arrived to buy drinks 2. Dirty dishes and glasses were left on the tables in the lounge for a long time. 3. The changing rooms in the spa are inadequate - only two cubicles!

A superb, quality country hotel where we felt very welcome. On arrival we were given a friendly ‘tour’ by Alan. The setting amongst manicured gardens and towering trees is stunning. Our room in one of the cottages was super warm, very clean and tastefully furnished. Gym was a plus for us. Breakfast in the stately dining room had great choices. A wonderful stay.

The hotel never appeared to be short staffed. We had a great two night stay. I would definitely return and recommend the hotel to friends.

What an absolutely fantastic hotel the grounds where beautiful, close to the coast seahouses, Alnwick castle. The staff where very tentative, on arrival we was looked after by Luke & Leanne wonderful people couldn't do enough for you. We was shown around the hotel beautiful antiques everywhere very classy, and quite posh. We had our cockerpoo with us and was welcomed almost everywhere in the hotel, breakfast was absolutely delicious in the cocktail bar and the evening menu was wonderful highly recommended the fish and chips and Ceaser Salad, evening staff Leo was a great guy, breakfast staff Jodie absolutely wonderful lady, as was all the girls on the morning staff. Spa pool a little cool but the Jacuzzi and sauna was lovely. Definitely staying again

A one night treat. Not the easiest place to find tucked away up a small country lane. Could do with more directional signage. Pleasant reception and checking in/escort to the suite. We booked the king Bed Suite ( Langley ). Extremely spacious with large lounge, seperate bedroom, bathroom and kitchen with beverage making facilities / fridge. Whole raft of empty cupboards. Don't know who would be using them all. No magnifying shaving mirror in the bathroom. Lots of period style furniture in the suite but looking a bit tired and faded. Some curtain hoops off the pole at one window and the curtain itself partially hanging off. Thorough checking needed before signing off for the next guest ! Excellent breakfast ( traditional and Vegan options ) with fruit/cereals/ juices etc. Need to bring the toast with or after the main plates otherwise its stone cold. Doxford has 2 meal options in the evening ; The market menu in the lounge bar but not a lot to choose from.Then there's Fine Dining in the main restaurant. Not a big fan but went with the flow . Had Canon/ Rack of Lamb with a couple of teaspoons of peas and carrot. The lamb was quite rare and amounted to 2 forkfuls., i would say it was a waste of money..Very pleasant gardens with a terrace to sit out and enjoy a glass of wine. Huge maze to try out . Should engage participants for several hours trying to find their way back out. Good heated swimming pool and spa with towels and dressing gowns.

Lovely stay at Doxford Hall - grounds were looking beautiful with daffodils in bloom. Staff were friendly and welcoming Stayed in one of the rooms a short walk from the hotel. These were private with fantastic bathroom. Great choice for breakfast and spa facilities good. The beautiful Northumberland coastline right on the hotels doorstep.

We booked this hotel on our jouney home as we were too tired to continue. What a fabulous find .The hotel is lovely, very relaxing, excellent breakfast. We didnt have an evening meal. Gorgeous grounds, a maze! Friendly and helpful stay. We will stay again.

Doxford Hall was in a very convenient location for visiting the area. Although, you do need to drive. The grounds are simply stunning. Beautifully maintained and relatively extensive. The hotel itself is lovely. Super clean, traditional, mostly bright and airy and again, well maintained. We had the four poster room which we loved. It was really big and was well organised. It had plenty of sockets, a USB port next to the bed, bottles of water and plenty of hangers etc. The bathroom was large, modern and spotlessly clean with a shower over the bath. The breakfast was very nice. Not the biggest selection I've seen but something for everyone. It was cooked and served very well. Mostly table service including pots of coffee and racks of toast. We had dinner both nights of our stay as we chose the DBB rate. We ate from the a la carte menu both nights. Every single mouthful was delicious. Beautifully cooked and presented. The house white was good too. There was also a set menu which looked great too. We only used the swimming pool, not the spa. The pool was a good size for a hotel pool. We enjoyed our swim. The changing room was adequate. Robes and slippers available on request (apparently). The staff across the hotel were, without exception, all friendly, open, happy and efficient. Beautiful hotel, very clean and comfortable. Delicious food both breakfast and dinner. All staff were clean and smartly dressed and were very friendly and helpful. The dining room staff were very attentive and never let you feel forgotten about or missed out. A very relaxing stay.

Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa is in a quiet location with the potential to be a great place to stay. However, I would not recommend it due to lack of cleanliness, expensive restaurant and accommodation which was at a standard below that expected for the price. I stayed in a Superior Double Room in June and it was too warm because the window would not open as it was sealed by paint. The bathroom was spacious with luxury fixtures but it was not clean; there was a musty smell due to black mould underneath the toilet rim, this had not been cleaned for ages but was cleaned after complaint. The sink overflow and shower hose were also mouldy. The bathroom fan did not work and was filthy. The restaurant did not have enough capacity for all residents causing overflow into the Cocktail Bar which was hectic and not very comfortable. Whilst there was a good choice of food it was over-priced and subject to a discretionary 12.5% gratuity charge. This was excessive as the service did not even offer free tap water.

Lovely character hotel in very peaceful surroundings. The staff were just lovely , friendly and chatty . Our room was in a good location and it was easy to get to the restaurant , bar and spa . The room was a good size and the towels were nice and soft, the hot water plentiful too. The only slight dent in the room was the condition of some of the fixtures and fittings . The carpet had quite a few stains on it , the shower settings were missing parts and the towel radiator missing coatings . That said everything worked just fine . The breakfast was good and the service excellent, good choice of fruit and juices . Hot food was tasty especially the eggs Benedict . The spa was enjoyable, the pool warm and the steam room and sauna just right . All in all an excellent and enjoyable stay .

The food was excellent but there was a very limited choice and if staying for more than a couple of nights it got very limited. There was very little for vegetarians or vegans, although the chief would prepare requested meals within readon and with notice.

An amazing 3nights of relaxed luxury. Restaurant food on particular was fab fine dining but there was also a market menu. Breakfast was excellent. Grounds were lovely even in the winter and plenty of places to sit inside including a library.

Doxford Hall was a lovely place to stay. The rooms were very spacious and the furnishings were of very good quality. The rooms were unique and had real character. The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly. The only reason we didn't give an excellent rating overall was that we were a bit disappointed with the food. We had some strange combinations on our plate which differed from what the menu said. The strangest was a mackerel 'crockett' along with our chicken main course. Odd. We presume that it was a mistake - if not, it's not a taste sensation we'd like to repeat. My husband's starter was to be smoked trout but he was sure it was the duck he received. We weren't overwhelmed by the quality of the breakfast either. We were expecting tastier sausages and the black pudding wasn't the best. Didn't like the hash brown and the mushroom was very greasy. We did think that in season fruit like strawberries or raspberries would have been a good addition to the cereal table. Seems like a lot of criticism and we're not usually so picky but we felt the food did let down the standard of the whole place. Our stay was still enjoyable though.

Had a lovely stay for my partners 30th. Staff were very helpful, absolutely lovely room and enjoyed use of the spa. Lovely grounds to have a wander at, including a huge yew tree maze! Would recommend and stay again!

We stayed two nights during August 2026. The hall is very impressive and well maintained, we stayed in a cottage on the grounds and the accommodation was clean, large with good amenities and a comfortable bed. We had breakfast in the main hall which was a little regimented and the choice was average not befitting the rest of the hotel. Overall a very pleasant stay.

It was very peaceful and calm and very pretty. Inside there were lovely nooks and crannies to sit and chill from the library to an elegant lounge and the bar area. We had a nosy into the gym and pool area although didn't use them and they looked great too. Our room was spotlessly clean as was the whole hotel and eating areas. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely bathroom which was well equipped with fluffy towels and spa body wash and shampoo. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and the food we had was tasty. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel as we were out and about but it did look lovely. All the staff were very friendly and cheery and a credit to your hotel. I would 100% recommend this hotel and we hope to visit again sometime.
