Great location. Very comfortable and the staff were very nice. Excellent gym. Close to restaurants and ferry services (hole in the rock tour). Nice walking tracks up and down the coast.

This is a lovely hotel right in the beach front. Unfortunately there were really bad storms prior to or arrival and the waves had come over the sea wall into the pool and flooded the basement. This resulted in the pool being closed for our three night stay. This out of anyone’s control but was a little disappointing as I booked the hotel for the pool area to chill out at.The room was very well presented with two twin beds. There is a restaurant on site and a gym. Also very short 3 min walk to restaurants and shops and all the day trips at the pier.

Room was clean. Quite a lot of noisy occupants in other rooms. Staff were mostly good, checkin was easy enough. Parking was ok, but few spots available. Games room was ok, pool was good. Wifi a bit spotty.

Perfect location, clean room with comfortable bed, walking distance to the wharf and restaurants. Please note that you can't check in before 2 and it seems that there are more rooms than parking places so when they are full you may not have a space.

This hotel is an older property. The room was clean and comfortable. Parking was right outside our door. The pool was open but too cold (not heated). We had drinks at the bar and the view was incredible. Our bartender was very nice. The hotel is close to shopping and restaurants in Paihia. We ate dinner at Zane Grey’s (disappointing) but breakfast at Paihia Bakery Espresso was very good for coffee and breakfast sandwiches.

We enjoyed our family stay here, great location, clean tidy pool, staff at the bar was super friendly we had inconsistency with housekeeping service but the team have fixed it really quickly. We will be back, thank you

Great for a night away. We have stayed in a couple of hotels in Paihia, but always come back to the Kingsgate Hotel. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. We stayed in a king bed room which has a small seating area with a table and a couch. Bathroom was clean and tidy. Would recommend to couples or family’s.

This hotel is excellent. We usually have a mini suite which is spacious and has great amenities. The cleanliness of the room is usually excellent but a little disappointed this time with the vacuuming. There were hairs and lolly papers in the lounge area that had been missed from the previous occupants.

Terrible musty smell in the room. Bought our own air freshner, which didn’t help. Open sliding doors to try and air room, made no difference. Smoke to staff the next day, only thing they could do was give us a can of air freshner. Staff did come and look and send it was probably the vents. Sprayed air freshner, made a little difference. Room was right next to the Laundry, which was very noisy. Only enjoyable part was leaving for the day and on return sitting on the balcony looking at the view, also to avoid as much of the smell as possible. Could not wait for check out day

The hotel is in the perfect position just down from the wharf. It has plenty of parking. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The rooms are a little old but absolutely clean, the beds are plush with plenty of pillows and doonas. The bathroom is well equipped and clean with a shower only. There was a bit of noise in the hallways at night so sound does carry, but not the hotel's fault. Would def recommend this hotel to others and stay here again if I was visiting the Bay of Islands.

Helpful and friendly staff. Close to everything. Ample flat parking. Amazing sunrise view from the dining room for breakfast buffet. Building is a bit dated, particularly in hallways, but rooms have been revamped at some point with modern bathroom. Would happily stay again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this facility. The rooms were very comfortable, parking our van was a breeze, and the location was conveniently close to all the attractions. The staff, on the whole, were extremely helpful and respectful, making our experience pleasant. However, we did encounter one front desk employee who was not as friendly and welcoming as the others. This stood out in contrast to the otherwise excellent service we received.

Overall, okay. Man behind desk was extremely unhelpful. We had no wifi. I asked over 5 hour period nothing was done. Finally a trickle came through late at night-very slowly. Additionally, there were two of us but gave us 1 free beverage, although part of our membership.

Not the friendly welcome that we were hoping for. I was told to park “anywhere “ and ended up on the street which was not satisfactory but what else could we do. The room was clean and tidy which was good. At checkout once again the staff member was not friendly, a quick “ safe travels” would have been nice.

We were locked out of our room on the second day without any warning because apparently they wanted the final nights payment. Then we were locked out again at 7am on our final morning. No reason this time. Poor communication and aggressive staff. It left a bad taste.

I was happy with the room I booked as we could access it via a lift. The staff were super friendly, especially Trina who does breakfast and evenings. The breakfast surpassed our expectations. A five minute walk and we were at bars and restaurants. So location was great as well. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Very happy with our stay at the Kingsgate in Paihia. Super convenient to restaurants in Paihia at the the wharf to catch a ferry over to Russell. Very welcoming staff that even very kindly gave us a refund on our last night as we left early due to bad weather. Will definitely be back.

Amazing place to stay. The views from the ocean view rooms are incredible. Sitting on the balcony right across the street from the ocean with the islands just off the coast was amazing. The hotel staff was friendly. The room was well equipped and very comfortable. Perhaps the best part of this place is its location. You're a 2 minute walk up the coastal walkway from the harbor that can take you to Russell and many of the islands as well as from restaurants and quaint Paihia streets with shops and small grocery stores. Definitely worth staying here.

A nice hotel with a very good location! Beds were comfy, good black out curtains, all was quiet. We didn't try the restaurant, so we have no opinion on the restaurant services except the bar. The Whisky sour we were served was nothing to write home about.

Someone from Paihia recommended this place and it was disappointing, at best. Neighbors next to us were loud and it felt cheap. The breakfast was good, however.

Room (junior suite 402) was large with a good balcony (although no sun on it in the afternoon) but was a little tired - could do with a few more pictures on the walls and some updated furniture. Good kitchen equipment and good size shower. Door to toilet needs adjusting as the bottom scrapes the floor when opened. Restaurant evening menu was very disappointing so we didn't eat there.
