Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Old Saybrook - Westbrook

We arrived early and the room wasn’t ready, which was understandable. However, we asked to use a restroom after hours of travel and were told no public restroom but we could find one down the road?!? The hotel is in need of renovations, the elevator smelled. The room seemed clean enough but the bed made terrible sound when you moved. We honestly looked to find another accommodation in the area but nothing was available.

I enjoyed my stay except they already had the pool closed Labor Day week with temperatures in the mid eighty's. The site does list pool as seasonal; they should note what they consider their season.

Had to wait 10 minutes to check in. No bathroom in lobby area. Smell of curry saturated the building. Lots of noise in rooms close by.

Can\'t imagine that it was not the "season" for the pool, but it was not available in any case. I guess the former Grab-n-Go breakfast is also no longer available. These did not bother us, but if you\'re expecting these don\'t get your hopes up.

I went to a wedding and travelled from FL to Old Saybrook, CT. I wanted a fairly inexpensive hotel in a safe area, close to the Marina. The room was clean, the shower was hot, the TV worked and the bed was sufficiently comfortable. I had a problem with my jewelry, with a small tag stuck on the post. The man at the service desk helped me. The landscaping outside was quite beautiful. i wish there were one or two more outlets.

We reserved 2 rooms for a family trip. The rooms were fairly clean, but the shower curtains had mold on it (both rooms). Each room only had 2 sets of towels (we had 3 people in our room and the other room had 4 people). We had to ask for more and, although they gave them to us, we felt like they really didn't want to. Both AC units shut off in the middle of the night (almost like they had them on a timer of some sort). It advertised a pool which was disappointedly not open (still covered from the winter). The breakfast consisted of a waffle maker and a coffee machine (no fruit, muffins, danish, etc). The front desk staff was courteous though. It was a quiet place to stay. Old Saybrook is a quaint little town.

The property is no Ritz, but it's a very good value for the money ($134/nt). The room was clean & comfortable with a big picture window looking out on a little pond and trees sporting colorful fall foliage. There was a load of parking and there's a fun restaurant Cuckoo's Nest Mexican a short walk from the lot. Shopping areas are just five minutes away in either direction. The ocean is a quick five minute drive away as well.

My credit card was overcharged twice by online EconolodgeInns via Expedia and by the local Econolodge Hotel. I have not been able to get a refund of $492.77 despite repeatedly contacting both the national booking site and the local hotel desk. The incorrect overcharge amount did not correspond with the full charge for the visit which was odd. The National site tells me the hotel must refund me, but the hotel says Expedia and National EconolodgeInns must refund me. Very frustrating. For the amount we spent including the overcharge, we could have stayed at a much nicer hotel. So, it was not as affordable as advertised for the published and booked rate. We stayed there for a full week in early July 2024 and a full week in late July 2024. The hotel was clean with convenient parking and a working elevator. The staff was friendly. On the way out, we requested fresh towels and on our return there was a plastic bag with fresh towels set outside the door as we had left a Do Not Disturb tag on the door. There is a good restaurant directly next store, but walking there requires a short walk on a busy road with a guardrail which we would not do again. There are several other good restaurants in close driving distance. We would gladly stay there again as visiting in that area frequently, but may not due to the unresolved charges. A week ahead, no rooms were available by calling the hotel directly or booking on the local hotel website. Rooms were only available via Expedia.

We requested a room on the first floor. They provided us with a handicapped accessible room. The ramp from our room went right to the handicapped parking area. It was so nice to be able to unload everything from our vehicle into our room. We were within walking distance of a Big Y grocery store, a Kohls department store and a Five Guys restaurant.

Very clean!! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would stay again.

Hallway filthy feeling, smelly. Front desk, lounge needs an overhaul. Last night, could smell pot coming from a room.

Disappointed. Hotel was not clean, bathroom needed repairs/upgrades. Bed was comfortable but room had a foul smell.

Everything about the place was worn and tired, and there was a strong scent of mold in the corridor carpet for the 2nd floor (where I stayed). In spite of signage stating that it was "always locked" but could be opened with a room key, the lock on the 2nd floor corridor door to the outside did NOT latch properly, and anyone would be able to enter the building. Not very safe. I suppose for the money it was about right, but it would not take much to make it safer and healthier.

Excellent value. The room was very clean except for a bit of mildew on the shower curtain edge. The beds were very comfortable and the room was good sized. Very convenient location near a supermarket, fast food (including Dunkin Donuts) and Kohls. Very easy on-off to I-95.

The room smelled of stale urine. The floor was uncarpeted synthetic wood. The air conditioner did not work. I was bitten on my leg by an insect under the sheets. I decided to leave since the front desk fellow didn't speak good English and said there was nothing he could do. I booked it for three nights . . . I wanted a refund. I was told it would have to be through Hotels.com, yet there is no easy way to contact them.

had dirty sheets and dirty towels. it’s like no one even looked at them. they just fixed it and didn’t even bother cleaning them.

There was a very strong musky smell to the hallways and room

I was in town for a funeral. I was hoping to have a quiet night's rest before traveling back home . The place was very noisy till 3:30 am. Sounded like a party with no end in sight! Not sufficient ventilation in room either. No windows to open. Bathroom fan sounded like a jet flying by and air conditioning was loud and needs cleaning. Dust blew out from vents. Not helpful for people with allergies. The staff was friendly but overall the bed, pillows & noise were a concern.

Very reasonable rates for a facility convenient to the reason for our trip. Perfectly satisfactory for brief weekend "need a place to stay." The beds are very comfortable. Bring along a power strip or two as outlets are at a premium. (I am glad I did so.) The Wi-Fi works fine. I would certainly stay there again when traveling to the same event next year.

I stay at a lot of places like this at this price point from Cape Cod to the Canadian border therefore it's tough for me to complain. There are only three things I desire from a motor lodge: a level clean bed, a non-sticky floor and ample hot water for the shower. The Econolodge failed to deliver on the third criteria. The water wasn't cold but it never got hot. It was just a quarter-inch turn of the spigot short of a satisfactory bathing experience and in all my travels, this was the first time I have encountered consistent tepid water in the shower. This was no malfunction, you will not get hot water from these people. The hospitality industry weeps. Water down the coffee, skip the danish and corn flakes just don't go cheap on the hot water. While I'm at it, the fan in the heater unit also managed to be loud enough to drown out the TV but that was ok because you couldn't even get a movie channel anyway, just old sitcoms and local news. That was also a first. Usually you can get one movie channel even at the most frugal places. It's not a bad place, they just won't allow themselves to be good.

My stay was good enough for what I needed it for I only sleep in the room, but the bed was awful every time I move the bed creeked and the bed was to small.The bed was suppose to be queen and it was full

Rooms are okay--be sure to get a "suite" or a double, as the single rooms are very small. Bathing facilities are pretty rudimentary--could use a shower seat or a bathtub. "Breakfast" is weak coffee and orange or apple juice.

The room was clean, beds were comfortable and staff was friendly. Check-in and check-out were both smooth and quick.

Did not like it at all. Stayed one night with the family in a room with 2 queen beds (says sleeps 5 people). Originally reserved it for 2 adults and 1 child. Brought another adult, was charged extra fees for another person. Not friendly staff

I tried to cancel this reservation for a week through Expedia and through the hotel with and endless level of frustration only to be called by the hotel at 1000pm last night. Never use Expedia again.

The staff was friendly and helpful and willing to work with us for the groom's party to get ready. The staff was polite and let me check everyone in and have everything available for the others to check in.

Definitely an older property, but staff were helpful people and our room was clean and quiet. Easy car ride to get to the ocean.

Very nice budget-friendly hotel near the beach.

We came in for a family wedding in the area and this hotel was a great location. The mexican restaurant that was down the street is fantastic, great margaritas ! Would definitely use this location again if we were out this way. Thank you for a wonderful stay !

Beautiful spot, very clean and well-kept on the outside. Rooms were maintained well-enough. My only complaint is that I asked for clean towels sheets after cleaning up a spill (then left for the day), and when I got back the "clean" towels and sheets were... not clean. It seemed like they had been thrown in the wash with no detergent, or only the dryer; I could still see/smell the stains. One of the towels that were in the room when we got there were also already dirty. Beyond that, I don\'t have specific complaints. If you\'re looking for a nice place to sleep for a few nights, but nothing fancy or that breaks the bank, I definitely recommend staying here (and checking out the Cuckoos Nest a 2 minute walk away). Stayed here for me and my girlfriend\'s 5 year anniversary and we had a lovely time.

Everything was good but it said breakfast 7 to 10 I think. When I went down for my walk the sign was covered but was given a to go bag.

The room was nice and comfortable but the coffee maker in the lobby was broken so no morning coffee available.

Did not like the breakfast options sand the shower curtain was dirty.

Bathrooms were fine but rooms did not feel clean. There was hair on the pillow in one room. Website said they served breakfast but they do NOT. I tried to update my reservation and shorten by a day and customer support told me it would cost MORE than the day rate for a room to change the reservation- which feels redundant.

Nice setting. Room mostly clean but dated. Rang bell for reception at check in, pleasant enough person came and signed me in ( late afternoon—took 3-4 minutes), never saw anyone again. No one, no set up for breakfast at 7-7:30 am
