Hotel Brunnenhof is quiet and clean and provided everything I needed for a week-long stay. Abdullah, who takes care of the housekeeping duties, was fantastic. My room had a small porch leading out into the back yard, where there is a picnic area. One crucial point: The English-language description of the hotel on Expedia has not been updated since the pandemic, and it needs to be. The hotel is now run in a (mostly) contact-free manner and no longer provides breakfast. In order to get into the hotel, you will need to phone the staff to get a code, which you enter into a lockbox in order to get your key. The instructions outside the hotel door are exclusively in German, which was fine for me (I speak German well) but may confuse other foreign guests. I do not have international roaming on my phone, and I made the mistake of going to the hotel first before buying a SIM card—which led to some comedy when I discovered I had to phone the hotel in order to get my key! (A local café owner helped out—I highly recommend the Eiscafé am Obertor.) If you are in a similar situation, get your SIM card before you go to the hotel. Once I actually got into the hotel, the week I spent there was pretty much flawless.

This hotel is in a quiet safe neighborhood. So if you’re looking for easy access to restaurants or other amenities, this isn’t the place for you. We like quiet and we traveled with a car so it worked for us. The property is clean and quaint with a cute garden out back and our room had enough beds for 3 adults, which was perfect for our family. On the downside, when we arrived at 6pm on a Tuesday, the front door was locked. Not a soul around even though the front desk hours said 5-9pm. There was a sign on the door (in German of course) stating to call the number to get a code to open the key lock box. This won’t be a problem for locals, however, being from out of the country, it took us some time to figure out how to call a German number and also translate the sign. This would have been a lot easier if we would have been informed ahead of time of these special instructions. We are now ready to check out in the morning and have yet to see any staff. That’s just weird to me. There appears to be a breakfast area, but no breakfast anywhere. The information on my Expedia accommodation details says breakfast is available. This place ended up working out for us for one night, but I won’t recommend it based on the difficulty of checking in and lack of communication/information.

The property was appropriate for its price point. The rooms were fairly clean but outdated. The landscaping was nice and well taken care of. Unfortunately, after a long day of travel, no one was at the property to let us in even though we arrived during check in hours and we were unable to get a hold of the property manager. We decided to try to get a room at another hotel where the staff went above and beyond to help us contact the owners of this property. Getting into our room should not have been this difficult and better communication about check in would have been appreciated.
