A great hotel in a good location close to the sea with an excellent beer garden backing onto the canal. Fantastic food let down by a slow service between courses. The room was clean and comfortable although the extractor fan for the kitchen was directly outside the windows. Easy access for those who needed to leave early with a key dropbox and friendly efficient staff on reception and behind the bar. Bus stop outside to take you to Lancaster, Morecambe or pther destinations. Good walks along the canal in both directions.

Great to stay and really convenient for getting in and out of Lancaster. Really friendly staff and parking just across the road and really safe. Great full English breakfast by the way. Great for the price and would highly recommend.

The room was fine, if a little noisy from the road and the food in the pub was good. However, once the pub closes if you want to leave the room to walk the dog etc you need to use a steel, slippery fire escape. I'm 67 and didn't like it, my dog hated it too. I'm afraid I will not be returning.

We booked 2 double rooms for 2 nights for our son's graduation and were very happy with the rooms and facilities. The 'power' shower was a particularly pleasant surprise. The staff were friendly and helpful and although we didn't eat there, it was always busy so clearly very popular amongst the locals. There is also a lovely beer garden which we availed ourselves of and enjoyed a bottle of wine. We would definitely recommend The Royal Hotel.

Nice hotel - good food, doggy super-friendly (even meals and ice-cream) - car park huge but not in peak times - only negative was the walls a little thin but nothing major. Distance to carnforth, lancaster and morecambe fine. Lovely people.

Room clean, linen well provided, crisp and clean, bed very comfortable. Television good. Good on-siute toilet and shower . Staff friendly. Out of hours exit requires use of fire escape to poorly lit area of uneven ground. Lighting to that area needed. Otherwise carry a torch. Would defiantly stay again.

The room was clean and acceptable. The staff throughout were attentive, friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Be aware on a busy road so if you are a light sleeper the front facing rooms can be a little noisy. Nothing can be done about this though

The royal had a lovely location the pub and dining area are well presented. The food was loevly and couldnt fault the staff. The rooms are clean just felt tired and a fresh coat of paint wouldn't go a miss but this certainly didn't spoil our stay.

The room was quite good with a comfortable bed. On arrival the heating was not on, so we asked the manager to sort it out. He got the heating in the room and the bathroom on, but it only stayed on until about 10pm. After that it never came on again and we were very cold in the morning. The worst thing was that we apparently needed to be out of the room at 10am. OK if you know about it but arrangements were in disarray when we were down at breakfast, 10.15 and told we had to be out. We booked on Hotels.com, which stated check out was 11.00.am and we organised on that basis. Expedia and Agoda also show 11.00am check out The staff insisted it was 10.00am. Really annoying and disruptive. Our son had another room and wanted a lie in, but was turfed out at 10.00am The hotel has a bar and restaurant. The food and service on the evening were excellent and I would have given the place a higher rating if it wasn't for the problems above. They need to get the times changed on booking sites to avoid this problem. Breakfast is served from 9am, which may be a problem for some.

When booking, I hadn't noticed that I had to be checked in by 20:30, which is a challenge. After ringing to find out if there was any flexibility, I was told that as long as I was there by 21:00, someone could check me in. Arrived at 20:35 to be told that they would need to contact the manager, as they didn't know how to check in after being unable to make contact. The pleasant, helpful and apologetic young ladies worked it out. Breakfast was included in the rate, but as they don't open until 9am, breakfast was not an option as I needed to be away. This hotel is not suitable for business trips with mid-evening check-in and late breakfast. If I had noticed (check-in ) and been advised before (breakfast time), I would not have stayed here. Very good location, very easy to find. We had a very good welcome and very easy check-in. The room was eady to find as all 7 rooms were on the same floor. The room was nice and airey with plenty of room The bed was really comfortable. Although we were on the front overlooking the main road, we didn't notice the traffic noise. The bathroom was a nice size with a walk in shower. We had our 1st meal in hotel in their dining room which was table service and the service was excellent. The was food was very good as was the very good choice of real ales. Overall all a really good and enjoyable trip.

We booked 2 double rooms for 2 nights for our son's graduation and were very happy with the rooms and facilities. The 'power' shower was a particularly pleasant surprise. The staff were friendly and helpful and although we didn't eat there, it was always busy so clearly very popular amongst the locals. There is also a lovely beer garden which we availed ourselves of and enjoyed a bottle of wine. We would definitely recommend The Royal Hotel.

An excellent one night stay at a very reasonable price. A little warmer than ideal during the night. But otherwise a lovely, relaxing stay. Staff are lovely. I feel a little bit harsh about leaving this review, but it is factual. The shower is excellent, but it’s a shame that there was no body wash or shampoo in either of the two bottles. The room was exceptionally warm and the windows barely opened and there was no fan. The milk for the coffee was out of date and the carpet had been cleaned last in the 1900s. It’s a real shame because the pub downstairs looked really really nice. I think with a little bit of upkeep, this could be a really nice place, but I couldn’t recommend it right now.

The bar area was OK, but the room was tired and needed a lick of paint. You have to leave the hotel via the fire escape if you head off before 9am, which is quite novel.The beer garden is great as is the canal which is just outside of the beer garden.

During stay for 3 nights had 2 rooms due to lack of cleanliness. Staff were accommodating for change of room, however when speaking to the owner Jason he was rude and dismissive. Front desk staff were also unhelpful at check out. Access to rooms was very difficult before 9am or after 10pm as front door was not open and had to access via fire exit.
