Royal Seven Stars Hotel

We enjoyed a lovely 4 day break at the Royal Seven Stars in Totnes. We had a wonderful time. The hotel and staff were lovely. Good food and great selection of wines. The bar was frequented by visitors and locals which made a great mix with very friendly locals making us feel very welcome.

Older hotel close within walking distance of the rail station. Outstanding guest services in the hotel and pub. Food and drink was good. In town, close proximity to shops, services and transportation. Older building and has some of the squeaks and scrapes that go along with them. Having only a few electric outlets in the room was the only bothersome thing for me. No lift if that matters to you, I enjoy climbing stairs. Nice property for the value, would stay again.

The room was a good size, comfortable and we were pleased that a dog bed was provided along with dog treats.The shower was easy to manage.There were several vegetarian food options and breakfasts were flexible and included in the overall price of our deal.

A Totnes institution with bags of character...really top staff who offer great service...very comfortable nights sleep. A busy bar and really good food on offer.....and all at a reasonable price...will be back !

Terrific central location, nice bar and restaurant. An old building so floorboards a bit creaky but rooms refurbished to a very high standard. Car park is tiny and usually full but there is a reasonable public car park just across the road, attached to a Morrisons supermarket, and we had no problems parking there.

Great Location, 1 night stay caught it on a Tuesday which was Xmas market. Friendly staff, breakfast included which looked amazing but unfortunately had to leave early morning for a meeting. Lovely local pub up the road, the Lord Nelson for sport and friendly people. Will definitely stay again here. Only downside, very small car park so had to park 10 minute walk away but the town is very scenic so was happy for the walk.

I liked the decor, owners hadn't tried to modernise too much. Staff friendly and polite. No lift available, not good if you're on the second floor.

There are only a limited free parking spaces available at the hotel, but we were advised to park at Morrisons which was only a two minute walk away. Morrisons had loads of spaces and only charged £2.60 for 24 hours - so very reasonable and easy. The hotel staff were very friendly and the food was good. The cooked breakfast was lovely. The twin room we had was quite generic and the bathroom was small, but it was clean, well equipped and with Elemis products. The bed was rather too hard for me and the pillows were so so. We could hear the two people in the next room chatting until the early morning, but luckily this doesn’t really bother us and we still got a good night sleep. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel as the location in Totnes is perfect. We will hopefully stay here again next time.

Parking a problem. Staff and service very good

The Royal Seven Stars just oozes history and character. It is just delightful and located right in the middle of the glorious town of Totnes. The staff are all warm, friendly and helpful. We had a lovely dinner with the extra treat of excellent live music. Great atmosphere in the bar, obviously popular with visitors and locals alike. Our room was really comfortable. We had searched for somewhere doggy friendly, but did expect so many facilities in the room just for our little dog. She was really spoilt, thank you.

The food (specially the breakfast) was very good, with the staff being very pleasant and helpful. The location could not be better… forget the car, with train and buses all close to hand. The only down side was poor house keeping in the rooms,specially in bathroom.

We had a wonderful stay as our room was spacious and it cluded air conditioning. It was impeccably clean and had tea, coffee making facilities as well as biscuit packs and bottles os water. The ensuite was spotless and contained all necessary toiletries. All staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was excellent with a full range of choices. We will definitely make a return visit

The rooms were beautifully clean, comfortable and cosy. The staff were so so friendly, it was my first solo trip and they made me feel so comfortable and safe. From the welcome team, the cleaning staff and the restaurant staff I only ever felt looked after and cared for. I will definitely be staying again in the future.

Excellent location both for the many transport links and the stroll into town. The room was on the second floor so not convenient if mobility issues. .It was compact with low ceilings but comfortable, especially the bed. Poor plumbing. Unusual housekeeping for me as the bed was never made up nor the bath cleaned during my stay. Dinner in the restaurant was disappointing. Chicken supreme dish, the potatoes were nice, the meat was well cooked unfortunately the roasted carrots tasted rancid so was unable to eat them.

The location is fantastic but the room we had was very tired and needed repairs. The bathroom handle came off whilst I was in the bathroom. Luckily, my relative was on the other side to help me out. The screws were loose, and it had obviously not been repaired before our stay. The shower was not as clean as it could have been, pink scum around the silicone and the screen needed a scrub.The bed was very comfortable and lovely, clean linen. Tea and coffee tray was well stocked. We had to ask for toilet rolls as only half a roll was supplied. The bar staff were not over welcoming and I felt like a number rather than a valued customer A large wine was £9.50, slightly more than I expected. Bar food was ok, just average, but the chips were delicious. It was Xmas market night and I appreciate that the staff were busy but customer service was lacking, no smiles, food pushed at us and no thank you, come again. However the reception team were fab, carried up my mums suitcase, pleasant attitude and welcoming. I would stay again for the location but I would eat and drink in another establishment for a better customer experience.

Fab little find. A really nice hotel with lovely staff. Lovely rooms. Little bit of damage in my room but this was explained with a lovely note. Rooms are very well decorated and the bathroom was very clean. My only negative is the breakfast start time at 8am. With being at work I could have done with it being a little earlier. However it’s much more suited to holidaymakers. I will for sure return.

Room was very clean and relaxing

The staff was amazing! The room super cute and convenient, and had everything you want. It was very clean, but the one thing that stressed me out was the mold in the shower. To me it seemed very obvious visually, and the smell was strong. It didn’t feel healthy to stay there, and I hope this isn’t the reason I got sick shortly after the stay. The room seemed to be renovated soon, so I hope this will be fixed. Too bad with such an issue when the rest of the stay was wonderful! I’d love to come back:)

Extremely welcoming, clean room and comfy beds

The hotel is situated at the Southern end of the town on the High street. Parking is very difficut, we had to park on the High street at first and then move into the small rear yard later in the evening. The room was large with a comfortable bed. Good shower and sitting room next door. Breakfast was excellent. Its a pub hotel.

Carpark is small but we got there early and parked. I checked if it was ok as we could t book in until 3 but were told yes, 1st come 1st served. Receptionist friendly and helpful. Room seemed ok on first looks but when we returned that evening it was so hot that we had to sleep with the window wide open and then it was really noisy due to a coach/ bus stop right opposite our room. Also the water pipes made a lot of noise during the night, the beds were far too soft and we barely slept. In the morning the shower was a lovely temperature but the ratchet on the head was broken and it wouldn’t stay up properly, just washing the back half of the shower and the toilet seat moved every time it was used - was nearly off at one point.

A lovely characterful hotel with a great central location in Totnes. Good sized rooms with large en-suites and all the staff were friendly and helpful helping to make it a thoroughly enjoyable visit and well worth a return trip

Really lovely room with four poster bed and jacuzzi bath. Staff helpful. Only missed five star as no real lactose free meal last evening. Shame as breakfast was great as was the service

Room not well sound insulated. Heard TV next room until 1:00 am, and thumps from above.

Having spent a reasonable amount on our room, we were rather disappointed by the lack of space and how outdated it was (nothing like the photos advertising that type of room so presumably it\'s pot luck with what quality room you get). The mattress seemed not quite right on one side of the bed (feeling like it almost entirely disappeared when laid on) leading to a fairly rubbish night of sleep, there was quite a lot of noise from the high street, and our bathroom was not only incredibly small but also looking rather worse for wear in places. Having checked out at 10:30, we were told breakfast had finished at 10. My fault for not double checking the details in the room but the large sign advertising breakfast served until 11am meant I didn\'t feel the need to. Evidently breakfast stops at 10am for "residents" and 11am for "walk ins" or so I was told when I queried this. I was also informed they were 2 chefs down due to illness & when I said I was glad I hadn\'t pre-booked the breakfast as a result, I was told they would have honoured it had we done so. Seems very conflicting. Parking is almost non existent, and trying to park in the nearby proved quite difficult due to how busy it was in the area when we arrived. It was a shame as our time at an event in the ballroom the previous evening had been fabulous, with incredibly lovely bar staff and great service, as well as an array of delicious food served. We are not likely to return for another stay though.

Hmm, what to say about this place? It is a very old hotel (late 1600’s) with some named and kitschy rooms. Saying that, the majority of rooms are quite small, with a very small shower. I am talking about the kind of shower where raising your arms to wash your hair is a challenge. It is in the heart of Totnes and the area is walkable with many art studios, artisan shops and restaurants. We had an ok sleep-the hotel fronts on a fairly busy street-and the included breakfast was really delicious. It is worth staying here to explore the history of the place but understand that it is not a modern hotel nor does it pretend to be. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the pub had good service and a lively atmosphere.

Very tired, needs a refurb, bedroom blind pull broken, window jammed, creaking floorboards, loud snoring from next room, no soundproofing.

The property is an historic building and reflects that. The room was clean, the bed super comfy and a well fitted bathroom. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. The full english breakfast was exceptional using great quality produce and very good coffee. Great location for a short stay. Would certainly recommend.

Great check-in, service and room. Staff were always available to answer questions and were very welcoming. Seven Stars is great for accessing the high street. Would stay again. Room was good, few signs of wear and tear in room, but that was to be expected in such an old building.

what an absolute pleasure the staff for first class, then knowledge of the hotel the food they were serving and the surrounding areas were absolutely encyclopedic. The bed I could’ve slept in all day it was so peaceful and quiet and a fabulous big bathroom the night manager/Porter, Adrian absolutely Top gentleman who was able to tell me where to go to eat where to go to visit, and he knew absolutely everyone

Stayed many times,this time was no exception, excellent stay overall with good room, staff were very good, food good. The building is showing its age and hopefully an overall is not far off. Barny who runs it is a very good manager who made our stay all the better. We will be ba ck once more. Highly recommended.

Excellent location for exploring the town. Only a short walk to the station. Nice room and very comfortable bed. The staff were fabulous.

Very much enjoyed our recent stay, staff were friendly and accommodating and the room was clean with nice array of teas and coffees. We booked for breakfast which I would recommend and the hotel is conveniently located on the main high street near lots of restaurants and bars and 15 mins walk from the station.

Close to the centre and beautiful property!

Three night stay away without the car for a change. Train station just 10 minutes away and taxi rank outside the hotel, well located. Staff all friendly and food is good. A little tatty in places and missed no plugs beside the bed, no hairdryer but not a massive thing. Totnes is definitely the place to go if you have a dog as everywhere caters for them.

All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was perfectly clean and there was a good selection of teas and coffees. There was a great choice of food for Breakfast, and we also booked dinner and that was good too. There is nothing to be critical of in the service. It’s not a swish place for decor but it’s an old coaching inn and has character. We would definitely recommend it and would be happy to return ourselves.

Food options very limited and given the poor choice of evening dining places, I would have thought the Hotel would make more effort to attract diners from outside, as well as Residents. Despite a "New Menu" board displayed outside, we went in at just before 9 and was told the kitchen was now closed !!!

Booked one night as a stop over before final destination. Great location in centre of Totnes. Great evening meal and very good breakfast. Bed was a bit soft for me and my wife and I rolled together. It’s an old building so expect some uneven floors and stairs. The car park is SMALL - barely six cars. Nearby public parking but download your parking app before you get there as 4G signal mixed.

Very nice stay staff really friendly . Lovely evening meal. Breakfast was a quite poor , had to ask for toast no continental left but the English breakfast menu was very good.
