Absolutely spotlessly clean hotel, a little old fashioned in its decor but a gorgeous building with a beautiful staircase and stained glass window. The bedroom was modern and clean, the bathroom was clearly very new with a lovely shower, sadly no where to put my washbag near the sink in the bathroom and the bedroom was too dark to use the free standing mirror to put makeup on at the dressing table! (I was in room 23 up in the roof space so only had velux windows) Nice touch with tea and coffee had to pop over the road to the Co op for a bottle of water! The stairs up to the roof bedrooms is very very narrow with small treads so not easy getting up with a suitcase so beware if your mobility is slightly compromised. The breakfast was cooked to order, which was fantastic, with a great selection of cold meats, cereals, fruit juice etc etc, no reason to go hungry. June was lovely and gave me a very warm welcome. Would i stay again - absolutely though parking was difficult as the car park was almost full with one space spare but careless parking by the other residents meant i had to park on the road outside, which is fine if you are leaving before 9am which i was.

We both fell in love with this beautiful Victorian house and its wonderful landlady. We were made very welcome and given a map of York together with an explanation about the Bars and Gates. Our room was imaculate and boasted a modern shower room, with plenty of towels. There was plenty to chose from for breakfast, but we both opted for the Full English (of course) locally sourced sausage and bacon. There is a car park, but i can't remember seeing a lift. We're already planning a return visit.

Stayed in twin room opposite the reception breakfast was good and very nice staff. The WiFi wasn’t great but acceptable. Private parking but only a limited amount of spaces.

Off road car parking is very welcome and location is walkable into the city. Very traditional bedrooms with modern ensuite shower rooms. Staff very helpful and the breakfast was one of the best provided for some time. Would recommend

It is a nice old family owned/run place. The extreme heat doesn't help in an old brick building. But i was never told about construction and put on the top floor/attic is tough. Breakfast was very good, flexible in a lovely period piece location. The street is noisy with buses and no AC. The top floor is very difficult (steep and narrow) so take note.

Lovely property with lots of original features and onsite parking. Located within 15 minutes walk of York centre. We could not fault the cleanliness of this lovely B & B Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious and well equiped( first floor room 11) The bed was very comfortable too which is always a bonus. The room is located on the 1st floor at the front of the property and as the windows are single glazed original sash cord windows, they dont block out traffic noise completely so if your a light sleeper this room might not suit you. Our breakfast was excellent. Quality produce. All items of cooked food were prepared perfectly and served hot. Friendly cheerfull staff. It was our 25th Anniversary Celebration weekend which was perfect. We will definately stay at Ascot House York again.

We have stayed at Ascot House four times now and it has been u over sally excellent. Immaculately clean, quiet and very comfortable. Perfect for a stay in York. Good breakfast, reasonable parking. Actually good parking but this may depend on how full the hotel is but can park in street outside if needed. Pleasant staff, unobtrusive but helpful. Altogether a very nice b and b at reasonable price.

This is the second time we have booked Ascot House. We came in December and we were so happy with our stay we booked again for our silver wedding anniversary weekend. Again it was a perfect stay. The rooms are beautiful, very clean and a well laden hospitality tray that was replenished during our stay. The breakfast choices are plenty including continental. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We are planning a return visit later this year. Highly recommended.

Ascot House is lovely and walkable to the heart of York. The breakfast is abundant and convenient, and the beds are comfortable. However, the room was cramped for a family of four, as there was little space for luggage or to put things.

Have stayed here previously and was great. The only issue this time was downstairs room next to reception so was a little bit noisier and quite a bit of traffic noise.

We stayed for two nights and had a wonderful stay. The Staff is so friendly and the included breakfast was restaurant quality with a homemade feel. The towels were so fluffy and the beds, while looking antique, had modern mattresses that were very comfortable. The rooms were quiet and we all slept well after hiking around York.

Room 2 is definitely NOT a Superior Double room as advertised. Small double bed and only a single seater chair. No room for two. The view of the small back yard was fantastic if you like looking at paving stones. We chose to find another hotel, but the landlady was polite and understanding.
Room 2 is definitely NOT a Superior Double room as advertised. Small double bed and only a single seater chair. No room for two. The view of the small back yard was fantastic if you like looking at paving stones. We chose to find another hotel, but the landlady was polite and understanding.

Just had a 2 night stay at Ascot House with our dog Sid. I can’t praise it enough for cleanliness, breakfast, room size and decor with a fabulous bathroom. The staff at breakfast were extremely friendly and helpful (I have Coeliac disease which they catered for very well). Owner was very welcoming and even came to personally say goodbye. The house was beautiful and very elegant.

Two nights in York and we couldn't have chose a better place to stay. Ascot house was excellent, the décor and furnishings are traditionally English, our room was immaculately clean and very comfortable with a really good recently modernised en-suite bathroom. We were met in reception by the owner who was absolutely charming and made us feel at home straight away Our breakfasts were as good as the rest of the service, with an excellent choice that was beautifully cooked and served really promptly. Overall, probably one of the very best places to stay in York.

What’s lovely place to stay. Large and comfortable room, excellent facilities and a beautiful ambiance. The breakfast was first class and we received a lovely recommendation for a light evening meal nearby. It is very walkable into the centre of York, but at one point we chose to take the bus and that too is both convenient and easy. We would not hesitate to recommend Ascot House and will make it our first choice on any subsequent visit to York.

Lovely property with lots of original features and onsite parking. Located within 15 minutes walk of York centre. We could not fault the cleanliness of this lovely B & B Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious and well equiped( first floor room 11) The bed was very comfortable too which is always a bonus. The room is located on the 1st floor at the front of the property and as the windows are single glazed original sash cord windows, they dont block out traffic noise completely so if your a light sleeper this room might not suit you. Our breakfast was excellent. Quality produce. All items of cooked food were prepared perfectly and served hot. Friendly cheerfull staff. It was our 25th Anniversary Celebration weekend which was perfect. We will definately stay at Ascot House York again.

Ascot house was a really lovely stay for us. The place itself is beautiful. Room was a good size and bathroom was great too. Lovely staff and hosts. Breakfast was also awesome. Only a 15 min walk into the city centre. Perfect location. Highly recommend.

It was a fabulous place to stay. Perfect for town. 20mns walk for us but could probably do in 15. We like to stroll. The room was perfect ,shower fantastic and the staff amazing. I'm a coeliac and they looked after me at breakfast really well. The gluten free sausage yummy. Can't thank the staff enough. Would highly recommend staying here.

I booked the hotel based purely on the reviews, and we weren't disappointed. Ascot House is a traditional hotel, based in a large, beautiful old house on the outskirts of York. The huge front doors, elegant wooden staircase and stained glass windows add to this place's charm, and the staff are welcoming and incredibly helpful. We stayed in a double room, and were treated to a four-poster bed which was very comfortable. The room was a good size, with lots of natural light, a modern en-suite shower room, wifi, TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast is served between 8-9:30am each day in a room at the back of the hotel and is a real treat. There's a great selection of fruits, yoghurts, cereals, pastries, ham, cheese and juices, then one of the finest cooked breakfasts we've had in a long time. And if you don't fancy a full English, you can pick and choose what you want (one morning, the Mrs just had scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toast). The hotel is conveniently located about 15 mins walk from the centre of York, and there's a small Coop opposite the hotel if you fancy picking up some snacks etc. This is lovely place to stay, with little personal touches everywhere that you simply don't get in modern hotels these days where you check in to a machine.
