The Margate Resort

PHaving beach access to the lake as well as a bar and restaurant on the lake was wonderful.

Overall it was nice with. Private beach on the lake indoor and outdoor pool. Bar and restaurant on the beach.

Room was clean & comfortable. Outdoor pool at the Inn side appeared to be closed (green) but no explanation or signage stating why. Lake was beautiful and beach staff services were fantastic!

A very unique location and offering. Your room is potentially yards away from a beach on Winnipesaukee. The pool, hot tub, and dining area are also amazing.

We stayed two nights as we have done for the last four plus years. Swimming pool closed and green the entire time and we were unable to use pool as the pool is the major reason we stay there. We will look for other accommodations for our next visit to Laconia

Disappointed that the arcade is not open during the winter. Also they got rid of the free breakfast which was great last year.

Even though on-site dining was indicated in the property details - restaurant was closed. Very poorly lit parking lot not maintained for winter conditions. Super icy - not safe for driving or walking across (fell twice). Strange smells in building I stayed in. Very dated - in need of updating/remodeling badly. Climate control blew as much cold air as hot - super cold in room all night. Massive air leakage around wall Mount climate unit resulted in frigid outdoor air coming in. TV did not work. Honestly, one of the worst stays I have had in years. So glad I was by myself, versus having the family with me. Would not recommend unless a complete overall of property and management takes place.

Great convenient hotel. Nice beach area and indoor and outdoor pools. Food options available which is great and the staff is friendly.

Amenities are Amazing! Restaurant & Tiki bar on the water… beautiful outdoor pool… with indoor pool, hot tub and sauna option! Would definitely come back!

We stayed in the Inn side of the property. The room was recently renovated and was spotless. We only stayed one night to attend a concert. Conveniently located to the Bank of NH Pavillion. Super quiet and comfortable beds.

Very clean, well kept. Great location. Beautiful view of the lake. Hot tub and sauna were great!

Very overpriced for quality of the room. Needs a ton of upgrades and cleaning. Slider had mold and very dirty. Tub drain didn’t work, and wall paper was peeled all over the room and hallway. Bedding, especially the blankets were OLD! The breakfast was 10/10. Chef Pierre was INCREDIBLE! Front desk Manager was absolutely lovely! The staff deserves a 5 STAR!

Room smelled horribly of a low quality, strong air freshener that still didn't totally mask a musty smell in the room (we stayed in the inn across from the main bldg). Not what I would expect based on the cost of the room.

First room we were given smelled of vomit. Staff was responsive and give us another room in the same building. That room was clean but decor was dated for a $360/nt accommodation. Beds were comfortable which was a plus.

the cigarette and musty smell in the INN part of hotel was nasty. very dated rooms and standard to more of a lower end stay rather then fee they charge. You are definitely paying for lake stay

The property is beautiful!! Everything is clean. Kids had a blast swimming in the indoor pool. We had a standard room and it was very spacious.

The renovations for this hotel were a great surprise! I loved the easy-to-clean flooring (no carpet) in the rooms! The room was clean which is my #1 concern. I loved that we could do a 1-night stay as our schedule didn’t allow for more. It was a convenient drive to Gunstock and the kids loved the indoor pool and hot tub. The woman who worked at the front desk was such a sweet and welcoming person! She was very accommodating and friendly!

My boyfriend and I were assigned a very SUB-par room across the street from the main buildings. It was VERY noisy and we could constantly hear people above us. TOTALLY unacceptable!! I will never stay at this property again unless I'm given a room in a lakefront building. Also, barely any products for self-care, a small TV, NO breakfast included. The ONLY positive aspect of this property is the dock restaurant/bar.

The hotel is very outdated and needs to be remodeled. The beds are stiff and make a ton of noise. We got shoved to the "inn" which had no elevator. Although it was only 2 stories, without my husband, I would have never been able to carry my bags myself up the stairs. The price seemed very expensive for what it was. It's the closest hotel to the amphitheater, so we had to stay here.

The Inn Building is across the street from the main building and most amenities, but does have its own outdoor seasonal pool. A quick walk or drive has you at the indoor pool and hot tub. Everything was spotless, and the service was excellent. The room was a great size, two double beds but plenty of space in the room.

THE BEDS WHERE TERRIBLE. THE BATHTUB STOPPEER DIDNT WORK. NICE GLASS DOORS TO SEE THE LAKE BUT COULDNT OPEN TO GAIN FRESH AIR. BAR FOOD NO RESTAURANT. JACUZZI AND SAUNA AND POOL THESE ALL 3 WERE NICE. TEH STAFF WAS NICE AND RESPECTFUL. THE DOORS HAD TO BE PUSHED TO AMKE SURE THEY SHUT OR THEY WOULD STAY OPEN. THE WERE AHRD TO OPEN JUST TO GET IN THE ROOM. THE ROOM WAS DATED REAL BAD. SMALL SHOWERTHE CURTAIN WOULD TOUCH YOU WHILE SHOWERING. MY SECOND DAY WAS AWEFUL BECAUSE I COULDNT SLEEP I WAS UNABLE TO SLEEP IN THE BED. THEY WERE THE SMALLEST QUEEN SIZED BEDS I HAVE EVER SEEN. PLENTY OF PILLOWS. NO MICROWAVE.

The photos are misleading. While at the property, I didn’t see the lake. We were put on the other side of the road with a view of the back of a supermarket. The beds were built of card boards that creaked every time we moved. I will not spend $253 a night for this charmless place anymore. VERY MISLEADING

The views here are top notch especially when staying at their beach front room! Which I highly recommend. They also have a nice indoor pool and hot tub for rainy days if the lake is too cold. Looking forward to coming back here later in the summer. Staff are friendly and accommodating!

We were very happy there. We stayed in the Inn building. Our room was huge. When our a/c malfunctioned they came immediately to replace it. It was 9:00 at night. Next year we hope to book a lakefront room.

The property is beautiful!! Everything is clean. Kids had a blast swimming in the indoor pool. We had a standard room and it was very spacious.

I was on business trip. Property was nice but geared to vacation / families. Service staff did their best but when questioned at the restaurant English became a barrier and server did not understand question regarding type of draft beer on tap when asked. Similar issue at breakfast. I would stay again but educating staff in customer facing roles to be able to communicate what is on site and where would be less frustrating to a customer trying to find his way around.

Our room was across a busy street with no crosswalks. It was far from the main facility. This was not mentioned in the booking info prior and the staff was not helpful in helping us get a room in the main facility without incurring a huge up charge.

Great location, friendly staff, clean & comfortable, perfect for going to the concert at Gilford. Highly recommend.

We arrived at 2:00 and our room was not ready yet so we were granted use of the amenities, which were great! Waited for a phone call from the front desk telling us that our room was ready. Never received a call so I went to the front desk at 4:00 and room was still not ready. We did not get into our room until 4:35 which was disappointing! It was a very expensive 17 hours!

Great service, check in was easy, room was clean! I will be back!

We stayed at the Margate when we went to a concert at the Bank of NH Pavilion. It was close to the venue and the hotel was clean. We loved the outdoor bar (with food available) on the water. One thing that would have made the experience a little better would have been a crosswalk to get from our area of the property across the main road to the lakeside portion of the property. I’m wondering if they’ve maybe tried to get one and the town hasn’t gone along with it.

Great overnight stay for the concert we attended in Gilford.

The Margate property location is convenient in location to restaurants, bars, shopping, and the Cake Theatre. There is also prompt/ reliable taxi service (Casey's) available. What is unique is that contained within the main Margate Resort is beach access and a restaurant on the beach. However, unknown to my self when booking this "Resort ", Margate has 2 properties, the main resort and a second "Inn" which is across the street . You check into the Main resort, given a map , and then you find out it's across the street. All of the amenities are still available to you, but you must walk across a busy street and then around the property to the back to access the beach front and restaurant. Unfortunately we never saw that part, I was having mobility issues and unable to walk (any) distance. Did I say they provided a map? Therefore I paid for beach access and services that I could not utilize or access. The room was ample size and very clean; yet again the amenities, for 2 people in a room, included a coffee maker that used pods, of which we received 2 reg and 2 decaf pods. Most people these days do not drink decaf, so that leaves 1 pod a piece of regular coffee. Oh and the cup size? Was 6 ounce (if that) and the covers were too big for the cup!! Then there was the refrigerator which was adequate size ( bigger than a mini) but no freezer section ( which i needed to put ice packs), the refrigerator must have been dying because it kept making this loud noise all night!

The Margate is just okay - it’s super convenient and location is ideal but the cost of the rooms is pricey for a very average hotel. We don’t spend a lot of time in the room so it’s fine. Just be warned that they don’t clean every day without requesting which is okay but if you aren’t aware of this can be a bit annoying. For us the location is ideal so it’s fine but definitely expensive for just okay accommodations.

We enjoyed our stay at the Margate very much! Loved hanging out at tae beach bar and watching all the boats on the lake. Bed was super comfortable and the buffet breakfast was delicious and filling! We will be back soon!

I was pleased that even though my family stayed at the Inn across the street from the main property, the amenities were easily accessible. The staff, from the front desk to the waterfront bar/restaurant waiters, were all very cordial. There were different evening events for the kids on the beach each night. The only downside was the extra charges for the breakfast buffet and the 1hr kayak and paddle board rentals. These amenities did not seem so extra special, that I was surprised they were not included in the price of the stay. Also, be aware that this is very much a family resort. There were kids, without adult supervision, weaving back and forth from the beach to the pool and hot tub. It wasn't an issue for my family, but a couple may want to look elsewhere.

We actually really liked this place. It would be great for families as they have a sandy beach with lounge chairs. There is also an outside bar you can order food and drinks. The common areas are lovely as well. The rooms were slightly dated and the beds we slept in seemed as though they should have been retired a few years ago. Nonetheless we would stay there again. I found the breakfast kitchen staff very unpleasant but front desk staff was great.

The women who makes the omelette at breakfast is outstanding. Best part of the meal! The hotel is convenient for concerts, shopping, etc and right on the water. Hot tub was lovely.

We loved the beach and the beach bar restaurant! Reasonable prices and good food and drinks. We loved sitting by the lake enjoying it all!

Nice spot right on Lake Winne’. Was towards end of season, so the bar was out of some items and the place was not crowded.

Very cute, mid-century resort! Absolutely immaculate rooms and grounds. Unobtrusive and fantastic staff. Lovely lake frontage. Outstanding lakeside bar with friendly bar tenders. Huge indoor pool up to 10’ in depth, a bit dated and chilly but very clean. Best breakfast during the summer. Try the danish- so flaky and delicious! Great for families and couples too.
