A great place jto stay for visiting Kendal and surrounding area. It was a bit difficult to find given the name, COUNTY HOTEL on the building, but Lakeland Kendal hotel on a stree level sign. It is the sane place. The hotel has mno official parking, but we got there early and parked right outside the main door, where we left our car for three days and nights wirhout interruption. The is a carpark elsewhere off the property. The staff were the most kind and helpful one is likely to meet. They made us feel qelcome from the very start of our stay.

Hotel is on corner of s busy road so lots of traffic. Checkin was easy with friendly staff (one only) and who also covered the bar! Learned the otel had gone cashless but there banking machines were not working. So 1st nighr paid cash. 2nd night had to pay on line! Website needs updating to refllect this. Room was OK but windows need a very good clean Shower was either red hot or scoulding. Reported to staff who said they'd get it fixed. Appeared there was an issue with the boiler! Breakfast was very good nice and hot full English. No actual car park here but could have used the local cricket club for £2 a day. I would stay here again if in Kendal. Just needs a few tweeks.

A little disappointing, I understand the hotel has just been purchased, however considering this it took a while to figure out that the hotel is now under a different name. The hotel needs work which is expected, however the fact the restaurant is not open for evening meals was just annoying.

Hotel is in a convenient location for access to the town centre but has limited (3 spaces) for parking. Decor and facilities are a bit dated and in need of update. Food was good but breakfast was a slow experience as waitres was working alone and struggling to keep up.

Parking a no go if you're over 2.1m high. If not you have to drive over the road into a tight car park. Options not great. Stain on carpet upstairs looks like there's been a murder or a birth. Locations ok 10 mins walk to centre, hotels limited for food and drink so go elsewhere

A great value for money hotel, room was clean and comfortable, the whole building is really warm, so be prepared,! The showers are far to hot for me, but my friend loves them, so its a personal thing, but they dont really go any cooler than Moulton Lava! Breakfast was amazing value for money and exceptionally tasty, the staff are all friendly and helpful. They have an arrangement with the Rugby Club to park for £2 per 24hrs, which unfortunately we didnt know about before! Overall this is a good hotel, the kettle was full of water so cleaners didn't quite pay attention to detail My biggest gripe is dropping my key into a box on reception that i felt was to accessible to everyone, and if the staff member wasn't there i felt even less inclined to drop it in, this really did not sit well with me, plus picking it up every time you come back, getting stuck behind people checking in to do so etc! I just want to go back to my room!

I had a single room which was a good size, comfortable and furnished with an armchair, desk, chest of drawers and a wardrobe, which is more than you get in a good many hotels. There was also a good sized and well equipped shower room. My only criticism is their choice of coffee, which could be improved considerably. All the parts of the hotel that I visited were scrupulously clean and there was a friendly and efficient team on hand 24/7.

Shower was broken such that the only possible setting was scalding, intolerably hot. We were offered an alternate room but it was in a repurposed outbuilding only accessible via a weird fire escape area, so we decided to put up with the broken shower. The staff just patronised us by saying no one else had complained about it, which I find unbelievable, and that it would be colder if set on half pressure, which we obviously tried and was complete BS. We asked for a late check-out as quid pro quo, and the staff declined. The rooms are generally pretty grim - see photo of the tiny prison-style windows. Kendal isn't great either (besides one very good restaurant named Sapore) and technically not even in the Lake District. If you want lakes, mountains and pretty towns, stay in Ambleside or further Northwest. This is the only review I've ever left on here but this was possibly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Locals told us it had changed its name around June 2025, presumably to shed the poor reputation. Beware.

Very tired looking, wore Badly stsined Carpets, chippe, worn paint work. The worse Breakfast and its sevice We have Ever had. Wrong orders, all items, Over cooked, dry, Easyest meal to prepare. Ony 6 pepple in dining room so Not Busy. Top Marks for ruining Breakfast score 1 out of 10! Terrible. To add insult to injury I broke a Temp Crown trying to eat the rockhard toast. And an Emergency trip to the Dentist on return Home. Shower tray edges mouldy, on off knob detached, could Not serficiantly lower temp of shower, Scolding hot down to Extreamley Hot to lowest temp Very Hot!! Could be a Nice Hotel if Money was spent on it. Not worth the price per night. Refunded for Breakfasts Rececion Staff Excellent, Very Helpful and sympathetic. 10/10 Housekeeping 7/10 Dining Staff 3/10 Chef 0/10

Bed was very comfortable and the room was generally clean. I appreciated the addition of a fan. Toilet had a bad smell though and the remote control for the TV was really dirty. Also very thick dust on the extendable TV wall mount. Minor gripes though as it was amazing value. Would stay there again.

Spacious and well lit rooms, comfortable beds. And excellent cooked to order hot breakfast. Slight negative is that the room needs good noise proofing, as we were disturbed by the noise from the other rooms and street.

Absolute bargain for what we paid. The triple room had 3 single beds and was spacious and clean. Great walk in shower in bathroom. In Kendal centre. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again.

Room was quite small but the bed was comfortable and shower was hot with good pressure. Our sink drained really slowly. WiFi kept dropping out so I gave up trying to stream video. TV was small by current standards (32 inch?) but OK for the size of the room. Lift worked well (we were on the second floor), building had some steps in strange places that made moving heavy suit cases a bit difficult. Old building issues I guess.

Had to wait until exactly 3pm to check in bit frustrating sitting for 10 minutes- then staff swapped over so had to wait again. Booked a double room but given a twin which wasn’t clean - this was swapped on request. Room was on the top corner no double glazing so with 3 windows it was noisy from traffic, bathroom fan didn’t work so bathroom window and all windows constantly streamed up - radiator was on so this must be an ongoing problem. Staff were chatty but not very bothered about customers but they did seem to be running reception, serving the bar and serving food. Bit of investment needed into the building and maybe more staff would improve this as it’s in a great spot?

1 membe of staff covering the bar,reception and serving meals. As a consequence the service was awful. We then waited over an hour for our dinner to be served. Not acceptable. The hotel was full so how come only one front facing staff on duty?

Very Scottish decor’ for some reason. Staff were over worked and doing multiple jobs as best as they could and as quickly as they good. Tending bar, taking orders, waiting on tables - just one person! They really struggled at breakfast with a coach party all coming down to eat at the same time and only two waitresses and one chef to handle everything. I could see how frustrated the staff and the customers were getting with the whole situation. The room was clean and tidy with good tea and coffee amenities. TV was working well. Bathroom looked recently refurbished. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. I really liked their “free drink instead of housekeeping” option, which I absolutely decided to go for. Hotel is conveniently located to train station and a short walk into Kendal town centre.

Tending bar, taking orders, waiting on tables - just one person! They really struggled at breakfast with a coach party all coming down to eat at the same time and only two waitresses and one chef to handle everything. I could see how frustrated the staff and the customers were getting with the whole situation. The room was clean and tidy with good tea and coffee amenities. TV was working well. Bathroom looked recently refurbished. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. I really liked their “free drink instead of housekeeping” option, which I absolutely decided to go for. Hotel is conveniently located to train station and a short walk into Kendal town centre.

Hotel is in a convenient location for access to the town centre but has limited (3 spaces) for parking. Decor and facilities are a bit dated and in need of update. Food was good but breakfast was a slow experience as waitres was working alone and struggling to keep up.

I don’t like being negative but it was not great. The staff tried hard - or some did - but they were very under-staffed with people doubling up on roles. Waited at least 5 or 6 mins before anyone came to reception desk, at peak check-in time, despite ringing the bell. There were five people waiting before anyone turned up. My food in the evening was ok and was served on time but I saw another person order very carefully but his order was very delayed and not what he ordered. Breakfast was pretty poor. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The public areas left a bit to be desired. You get what you pay for and it was not particularly expensive.

Hotel is on corner of s busy road so lots of traffic. Checkin was easy with friendly staff (one only) and who also covered the bar! Learned the otel had gone cashless but there banking machines were not working. So 1st nighr paid cash. 2nd night had to pay on line! Website needs updating to refllect this. Room was OK but windows need a very good clean Shower was either red hot or scoulding. Reported to staff who said they'd get it fixed. Appeared there was an issue with the boiler! Breakfast was very good nice and hot full English. No actual car park here but could have used the local cricket club for £2 a day. I would stay here again if in Kendal. Just needs a few tweeks.

Absolute bargain for what we paid. The triple room had 3 single beds and was spacious and clean. Great walk in shower in bathroom. In Kendal centre. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again.

A little disappointing, I understand the hotel has just been purchased, however considering this it took a while to figure out that the hotel is now under a different name. The hotel needs work which is expected, however the fact the restaurant is not open for evening meals was just annoying.

Check in was very quick and easy. It’s the little touches it was mine and my son’s birthday this weekend and we had a birthday cake, cards, sweets, drink in the room. Lovely. The room was clean and tidy and spacious. We stayed half board. The dinner allowance was very good and the food was amazing. Would definitely stay here again thank you for an amazing stay.

You get what you pay for, I understand that, but nothing in this hotel was clean. Everything had a strong odor if some sort. There where so many spiders everywhere, in all corners. The breakfast was really sad. How it has such a high rating I don’t understand.

Great hotel opposite the train station and within easy walking distance to the town centre. The room had everything you needed, a comfy bed and a lovely bath to relax in. The breakfast was varied and the hot food was individually cooked for you. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

I was really impressed with the Lakeland Hotel in Kendal. After a friendly welcome at reception I was directed to my room on the 3rd floor (via the lift thankfully). The first thing which struck me when I opened the door was the fresh smell which was a very pleasant surprise. The room was exceptionally clean. Gleaming bathroom and pristine sheets - what's not to love? After a comfortable night, I went down for breakfast. There was a full continental selection with cereals, breads, fruits, juices and cold cuts as well as a cooked to order menu. A very slick service with a pot of coffee arriving quickly and my full English approximately 10 minutes later. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

You get what you pay for I guess, rooms were very basic, the shower didn't heat up, the layout was rather odd and the breakfast looked like it was cooked on a heated argument. The main road outside was so loud we barely slept a wink, couldn't shut the window because the room was stifling hot with no AC, just a little fan that was rather loud too. Reception wasn't manned until 3pm despite ringing the bell and the hotel phone a number of times to see if we could leave our luggage and explore the nearby town. Breakfast staff were pleasant. I wouldn't recommend or stay again unfortunately.
