Having parked in the car park I walked in to the pub and asked to check in, where I was then directed to the ‘office’ or reception. This could have been much better signposted to save time. Check is went ok and I was given the key and told where the room was. This was in an outbuilding, literally right by the car park and on the ground floor. The room was very small and dark, with a small bathroom attached featuring a bath with shower attachment, toilet and sink. It was all clean but quite tired and old looking, plus it was extremely warm, and I could not leave the window open as it was right by the walkway to the car park, so open to the public. I actually slept reasonably well considering the heat. Evening meal and breakfast were both fine, very typical pub grub but at fairly competitive prices. This is clearly an old pub in a lovely traditional English market town, but it needs a little effort to tidy it up. I wouldn’t rush back, but it was ok for a single night stay.

This is a pub, not a hotel. I do hate writing bad reviews, but Hotels.com keep pressing me for one. Totally clueless staff that could barely book me in to my room - and to have a meal in the bar was to be subjected to about twenty 18-year olds getting absolutely drunk and yelling their heads off as a DJ played on to no one listening.

Good parking, clean room, good food but the toilet seat was very loose. We all enjoyed playing darts and a game of pool, would definitely go again.

The staff could not have been more helpful - David in particular - at reception and in serving breakfast. This really makes all the difference after a tiring day travelling. It was lovely having table service at breakfast. I was able to take my dinner to my room which I really appreciated too. The bed was one of the best hotel beds/mattresses I have slept on and I had a very good night's sleep. The carpark was conveniently placed for my hotel room also. All of these things, together with the warm welcome and just-right service, would make me recommend the hotel to others and return there myself.

Very good value for money. Comfortable bed. Slept like a baby. A few carpet stains tho. WiFi perfect but no air conditioning. Nice cosy looking fireplace bar downstairs. 'The works' breakfast filled me up till the evening...!

Bathroom and room not very clean. Cups for tea etc were dusty. Shower wasn’t useable just sprayed out of the bath onto the floor when turned on. Very noisy until pub music stopped at 11pm. Staff welcome friendly and located in a good area. Good that parked included.

At the end of the day all I wanted was a bed for the night and at £40 it was cheapish. Bed and mattress was very old and uncomfortable. My room (room 7) faces the rear of the hotel. Very bright security lights are on all night and shine into the room a lot. Very large amount of mould around windows, stuffy very dusty room.

We stayed for 4 nights and only got room serviced once. Even with service card on door each day. No soap in dispenser at sink and no dispenser in shower. When we asked they gave us dispensers to fit in bathroom. Very difficult to lock door - need to be superman to lock it. We could not check out at 8.30am as all doors to hotel were locked. Had to put key through letter box

The bins had not been emptied when we arrived in the room at 5.30pm.so we had our doubts that the room had been cleaned correctly or just skimped over, let the duty manager know and she apologised.....think they were short staffed being a Sunday, but this is not good enough and not the standard we are used to

Room was very dusty, dust and cobwebs on walls and the bathroom was dirty. Towels and bedding were clean. Staff we not very proactive, certain food not available and very slow to serve us. We had to request toilet rolls and a missing cup, when checking in. The outside rooms attract issues, they was an assault when we were staying and a drunk man in his underwear asking for people to join him?

Lovely staff and simple, straightforward food done really well - thank you. Hotel looking and feeling tired. Room was very small for the money. Very hot throughout although there’s not so much you can do in a mini heatwave!!! Parking good. Overall ok - really helped by your really attentive and engaging staff :-)

2 night stay - room was small double - you could not walk around the bed. Hotel in need of TLC - could be very good but needs an overhaul. Food not very good - I may have been unlucky (Sunday evening) and my choice may also be to blame.

I do not recommend this hotel. Difficult to locate. Very loud music throughout the hotel until 11pm. Painful to my ears. Room very small no chair or hooks to hang up my coat. Breakfast was excellent with very good service.

We stayed for two nights. One adult and two children the room.waa clean and spacious and thr beds were very comfortable, we had everything we needed. The food was lovely and every member of staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Do not book this hotel as they have now charged me twice for a room booked and paid for to Expedia. When you get the confirmation you need to complete sign in details which, like other hotels, require you to enter credit card details for any incidental charges. This lot then proceded to charge me the cost of the room again and have now reported that error. During the initial discussions about the mistaken charge they said they never get any payment from Expedia and refused to refund me the money. Expedia even spoke to them and got the same response so Expedia processed a refund to me. Shocking admin that has spoiled any otherwise great break and I'll never stay here again or even visit the bar.

Food was mediocre, orange juice at breakfast watered down, coffee tasted like cheep instant coffee, room was small and clostraphobic, very very expensive stay in a b&b and breakfast not included. Staff very unfriendly.

Stayed for a couple of nights and staff were extremely helpful, friendly and polite. Nothing was too much trouble and were were made welcome throughout our stay. The food & accommodation was great. Location was brilliant with great atmosphere. Shall definitely return & will share this with friends and family.

Totally clueless staff that could barely book me in to my room - and to have a meal in the bar was to be subjected to about twenty 18-year olds getting absolutely drunk and yelling their heads off as a DJ played on to no one listening.

Nice welcome with friendly staff. Room comfortable. Dinner good and nicely cooked. Breakfast good and nicely cooked. All in all a good stay and I will be using this hotel again.

The staff could not have been more helpful - David in particular - at reception and in serving breakfast. This really makes all the difference after a tiring day travelling. It was lovely having table service at breakfast. I was able to take my dinner to my room which I really appreciated too. The bed was one of the best hotel beds/mattresses I have slept on and I had a very good night's sleep. The carpark was conveniently placed for my hotel room also. All of these things, together with the warm welcome and just-right service, would make me recommend the hotel to others and return there myself.

All the staff were very polite and helpful. Dave is an asset to the hotel, very good at his job. The chefs are amazing, roast dinner is just like your nans! especially the yorkshire puds! will def stay again.

Having parked in the car park I walked in to the pub and asked to check in, where I was then directed to the ‘office’ or reception. This could have been much better signposted to save time. Check is went ok and I was given the key and told where the room was. This was in an outbuilding, literally right by the car park and on the ground floor. The room was very small and dark, with a small bathroom attached featuring a bath with shower attachment, toilet and sink. It was all clean but quite tired and old looking, plus it was extremely warm, and I could not leave the window open as it was right by the walkway to the car park, so open to the public. I actually slept reasonably well considering the heat. Evening meal and breakfast were both fine, very typical pub grub but at fairly competitive prices. This is clearly an old pub in a lovely traditional English market town, but it needs a little effort to tidy it up. I wouldn’t rush back, but it was ok for a single night stay.

I do not recommend this hotel. Difficult to locate. Very loud music throughout the hotel until 11pm. Painful to my ears. Room very small no chair or hooks to hang up my coat. Breakfast was excellent with very good service.

This stay was reasonably priced but, whilst you get what you pay for, the place was tired and run down. On saying that, it was clean-ish and the location good.

Room was dusty, lots of flies. Rooms were located at the back of the pub, so when people were leaving late at night there was a lot of noise.

Lovely staff and simple, straightforward food done really well - thank you. Hotel looking and feeling tired. Room was very small for the money. Very hot throughout although there’s not so much you can do in a mini heatwave!!! Parking good. Overall ok - really helped by your really attentive and engaging staff :-)

Food was mediocre, orange juice at breakfast watered down, coffee tasted like cheep instant coffee, room was small and clostraphobic, very very expensive stay in a b&b and breakfast not included. Staff very unfriendly.

2 night stay - room was small double - you could not walk around the bed. Hotel in need of TLC - could be very good but needs an overhaul. Food not very good - I may have been unlucky (Sunday evening) and my choice may also be to blame.

Made the booking on hotels.com, arrived late and the booking wasn't on the system. Too late to mess about, so paid directly and got a refund from Hotels.com. A bit of an inconvenience. But the receptionist also failed to point out the parking arrangements. There must be some kind of system to register the vehicle for the car park. Just got the 2nd letter, 1st letter didn't arrive, so straight to £100 charge. Phoned them to see if they could help. The person I spoke to could not have been more unhelpful, they couldn't even be bothered to talk properly!

Unfortunately there was no hot water in our room and the kitchen was closed due to a gas problem which we were not informed of in advance. They did manage to do us a reasonable breakfast though. The hotel is a little dated but good for contractors when the hot water is back on.

Booked through hotels.com Then was told no room available so couldn't check in Tried to get a refund from Hotels.com, who refused until the hotel confirm - supposedly tried to get hold of them - I tried too with the phone just ringing and being told 'we value your call' - but my call not valued enough to answer it??? Still not had a refund or acknowledgement that it should be refunded
