Very dated rooms , damp smell going up a million steps to the room, shower had no pressure and could barely move in the cubicle even tho the bathroom wasnt to small itself! Bar smelt like a mop bucket. Heard the steak was good but couldn't get a table so had a steak in the more modern adam and eve.

Room Clean & Tidy but could do with updating Parking is an issue as you have to park in long stay car park which is 5 minutes walk / 200 yards from property.

Staff are very helpful and friendly. The room was good size and clean. The location was very convenient. Free parking in front of the building until 10am in the morning (you have to get a disk from reception and display it). However, the room has very poor sound proofing - I could hear people next door talking and snoring. It’s also above a pub so there was a bit of noise from the street. The fridge in the room was a nice touch but noisy. Overall we didn’t have a good night’s sleep unfortunately…

The Tavern room felt like something out of the 70’s. Very poor shower, room very dated. No breakfast in pub even thought comments on websites seem to show it is offered. ….. and most cafes offer scone and cake rather than breakfast fare. Parking is a real issue in Alnwick so beware.

We arrived at the premises to find the bar & restaurant closed due to a kitchen fire, only informed by notices in the windows, no advance warning. Rooms still open, but had to ring a couple of numbers to get hosts to let us into the property. Main reason for choice was the excellent reviews we'd read about the food! Sadly no food, or drink, during our stay. Breakfast offered was a croissant each left in the fridge with a bottle of orange juice. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. (It was my birthday treat.) However, room lovely & warm, clean & the bed was comfortable. Quiet too, for being on the front of the property. Had our own keys to come & go, & parking right outside, with a parking disc. The host informed us the kitchen will be closed for months to come.

We stayed for two nights. The hotel is situated in middle of Alnwick, close to every amenity. We parked outside the door. You need a parking disc to park in most areas of the town, but the hotel gave us a disc. Check in was easy, and the barman carried our bags up the 36 stair steps to our room! It\'s an old building- no lift. The room we were given (4) was perfectly clean and functional, but cold. We asked for a different one but we were told there wasn\'t another available. Early next morning the heating started!! The noise was shocking. I spoke to the housekeeper when she came into hotel who was absolutely lovely. She immediately moved us to another room ( "the hotel is practically empty "!!) A much warmer bedroom with a wonderful bathroom, with a bath! We ate dinner there on the second evening (valentine\'s) with two friends, and we all said the food was so very good. So, the staff and the food were the highlights of our stay.

The property wasnt very clean and i know its not the properties fault but the people in the next room to ours were so noisy and kids jumping off the beds which must have been on the same side wall as ours as our beds shook everytime. The staff were fabulous though and locals very friendly. Wouldnt stay here again but would pop into the bar for a drink as that was lovely and clean just a shame about the rooms.

Although the Restaurant gets excellent reviews the accomodation leaves a lot to be desired. Radiatir not working, damp smell in accomodatuon an room, carpet in need of deep clean or to be replaced. Shower cubicle showing moluld and damp coming througw a couple of walls. All in all not a pleasant experience.

Lovely hotel and restaurant. Room was great for the price we paid. The bathroom wasn’t very clean and the shower needed serious updating. This would not put us off staying for a short break again. The location was fantastic

Dirty bathroom and a shower that trickled. A bed that looked about ready to fall apart and mismatched drawers that had bugs inside them. This is what awaited us when we checked into the tavern hotel. The kettle was still filled with water from the previous guests, the cups were stained and there was a box filled with tea coffee and sugar just thrown in as an afterthought. We had read reviews which seemed good however they must have stayed in a different tavern all together. We were quoted 88.00 and charged 100.00 never again expedia!

The carpets were dirty and smelt of dogs & cannabis in the stairways. The whole place was very tired and worn. Room rate was very overpriced it a handy location. A Mini fridge was in the middle of the floor in front of the sink which wasn’t even plugged in. The food is usually good in the bar though.

We had a lovely overnight stay. The staff were very welcoming and informative. The room was clean and spacious with comfortable beds, our wee one especially loved the bunk bed. We booked in for dinner which was absolutely delicious and would highly recommend. The area is beautiful, we will definitely be back!

Great check in by super friendly staff. The bed was fantastic and the stay overall was good.....however, we stayed in room 1 which according to the reviews was the best room. It had great views and it was comfy but if we were to stay again I feel they should invest in a door lock that didn't stick causing us to leave the door unlocked or find a member of staff to lock or unlock our door. Finally the shower was extremely poor, it had a shower head that's supposed to enhance the power but failed miserably. I feel a low cost investment would give the room a 5 star rating taking into account the age of the property.

Room was 3 floors up,small room,very basic,clean but bed was hard and really uncomfortable. Also very noisy ,could hear them coming in at 3am!!. Very limited teas and coffees in room,and continental breakfast ready laid out for next day. there was no additional tea/coffee until Tavern opened at lunchtime .

So bad we cut our 2 night stay to one night and that was too long. Tiniest room I've ever seen with 3/4 size bed not the double that we paid for. So small the shower room was blocked by a bedside cabinet. The shower decide to scald us randomly. There was no wondow in this prison cell ! The bed was hard. the handrail as you climb up the 4 flights of stairs was filthy. No communication about parking which was hugely important to us as we are both late 60's and I am disabled. The bar staff refused to serve us a drink at 10.30 even though we told them we were residents, even worse, the staff were sittinf at the bar with fresh drinks, no call for last orders, just a plain refusal from a girl who said she had "made up the till" even though she had been on her phone for 15 minutes. You could not pay me to go back there !

Lovely stay for 4 nights. Room 1 was lovely and big, nice bathroom though the shower was adequate, hot water was not very hot. Good central place for visiting Alnwick castle and gardens. The restaurant and food was outstanding at the Tavern, staff were very nice and helpful. We had a problem with the lock on our room door, it was sorted the next day and we were refunded a nights stay ❤️

The room was clean but very cold on arrival. There was a radiator on in the room but it didn’t give out much heat. We had been left a little heater which we used all the time. There was no heating in the bathroom and although the basin toilet and shower were clean the plumbing leading to the toilet had black stains running done it and overall the bathroom just needed a total refit. We left one day early.

Nice room above the pub. No window but it was fine. The room was small but clean and the bed comfortable. Unfortunately there is only the main light in the room and the switch is by the door so it was a bit difficult to read once in bed. It would be nice if there was at least one wall light or a bedside light

On arrival the staff could not of been more welcoming and friendly. We were able to leave our belongings in the room ahead of the 3pm check in which was great. The room was spotless, comfortable beds wtih everthing you need. The shower was excellent grest power and the tea and coffee making facilities was a nice touch. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone great location, great service and great value for money

We stayed here whilst at a wedding in Alnwick. The staff were lovely and helpful and we were able to check in after two. If in Alnwick we would use this hotel again.

Absolutely loved our stay at The Tavern. Location couldn't be better, room was comfy and spacious and the staff were welcoming and kind. Would 100% recommend

So bad we cut our 2 night stay to one night and that was too long. Tiniest room I've ever seen with 3/4 size bed not the double that we paid for. So small the shower room was blocked by a bedside cabinet. The shower decide to scald us randomly. There was no wondow in this prison cell ! The bed was hard. the handrail as you climb up the 4 flights of stairs was filthy. No communication about parking which was hugely important to us as we are both late 60's and I am disabled. The bar staff refused to serve us a drink at 10.30 even though we told them we were residents, even worse, the staff were sittinf at the bar with fresh drinks, no call for last orders, just a plain refusal from a girl who said she had "made up the till" even though she had been on her phone for 15 minutes. You could not pay me to go back there !

The room we were given was not the room booked. The shower was awful, there was no hairdryer, the venue does not have a working kitchen, hence no food available. The toilet leaked and finally the host refused to accept that I had paid before arrival even though I showed him my payment acknowledgment on my banking app. Would not recommend this place.

The room is above a great restaurant, not so much a pub. The rooms are dated and in need of some TLC. Paint peeling off the bathroom wall and ceiling and discoloured. We only had the room cleaned on one day and we had to use damp towels the following days. There is no reception when the pub is closed to request services from. Overall disappointing.

We stayed for two nights. The hotel is situated in middle of Alnwick, close to every amenity. We parked outside the door. You need a parking disc to park in most areas of the town, but the hotel gave us a disc. Check in was easy, and the barman carried our bags up the 36 stair steps to our room! It\'s an old building- no lift. The room we were given (4) was perfectly clean and functional, but cold. We asked for a different one but we were told there wasn\'t another available. Early next morning the heating started!! The noise was shocking. I spoke to the housekeeper when she came into hotel who was absolutely lovely. She immediately moved us to another room ( "the hotel is practically empty "!!) A much warmer bedroom with a wonderful bathroom, with a bath! We ate dinner there on the second evening (valentine\'s) with two friends, and we all said the food was so very good. So, the staff and the food were the highlights of our stay.

On arrival warm friendly greeting shown to room-Basic but clean-Bed very uncomfortable “lumpy mattress”.Shower head broken no heating in bathroom so cold Given menu for Dinner on evening in pub downstairs -not told to “book a table” so on going down at 19.30pm initially told fully booked by young barmaid/waitress and told to try elsewhere.Sorted by manager and table found within 10mins-Food was excellent -Highly recommend eating there-Staying overnight-Not so much -Tired and needs major re-furb

Room Clean & Tidy but could do with updating Parking is an issue as you have to park in long stay car park which is 5 minutes walk / 200 yards from property.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room (and Tavern) was very clean and cozy. It was in the perfect location for shopping, restaurants, and attractions. Would absolutely stay again!

Although room was dated and shower was a bit iffy, the evening meal was excellent, staff were brilliant and beers were great. Price to was great and close to castle and gardens.

Good location and facilities in the bedroom with fridge and decent tea tray. I would have given the property condition and facilities a better rating if the bathroom had been updated, it was clean but a bit tired. It wouldn't stop me from staying here again.

Very dated rooms , damp smell going up a million steps to the room, shower had no pressure and could barely move in the cubicle even tho the bathroom wasnt to small itself! Bar smelt like a mop bucket. Heard the steak was good but couldn't get a table so had a steak in the more modern adam and eve.

This was just a stop-over on our way home from Scotland. Our room was clean and had everything we needed (apart from tea bags!) and we ate down in the bar in the evening too. Wow! What a magnificent meal it was. Great food and good prices too.

Our stay here was only for one night, the room was very dated,but bedding clean & bed comfortable. Tea & coffee making facilities were good. Bathroom did smell damp, but appears to have a leak from the toilet. Staff were very nice and welcoming, the food that night was very nice. Very convenient location for our trip.

We arrived at the premises to find the bar & restaurant closed due to a kitchen fire, only informed by notices in the windows, no advance warning. Rooms still open, but had to ring a couple of numbers to get hosts to let us into the property. Main reason for choice was the excellent reviews we'd read about the food! Sadly no food, or drink, during our stay. Breakfast offered was a croissant each left in the fridge with a bottle of orange juice. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. (It was my birthday treat.) However, room lovely & warm, clean & the bed was comfortable. Quiet too, for being on the front of the property. Had our own keys to come & go, & parking right outside, with a parking disc. The host informed us the kitchen will be closed for months to come.

First time staying here. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room nice, bed comfortable. Typical Pub room really. Good value for money. Very handy for all of Alnwick and the castle.

Vi kom mitt i rusningstiden men personalen tog snabbt hand om oss och checkade in oss. Baren var fin och hade alltid folk där (utan att vara högljudd eller stökig). Mitt i stan. Bra mat med okej prsier.

Splendidly placed, this was a fine pub and the menu was excellent. However, our small room at the top was not good. There was no natural light and it needed an air conditioner which could heard during the night. It waa difficult to control hot/cold water and there were no bedside lights or tables. Parking on the street just outside was easy with a disc.
