This is the one. Look no further, their salt water pool is like swimming in cream..and the beach is prestine, good snokeling opportunity easy to see manta rays when sun sets via a short snokel swim or view point for those who do not want to go in. There are guided tours, but people also swam out without a tour. Rooms are beautifully put together with local treats, and two thermos and water station on your floor, sunscreen available at most stations, cucumber water, poolside service, beautiful restaurant..Manta delicious..i came here after roughing it in Hilo...this was the perfect ending to my trip. I went with 2 kids....absolutely kid friendly ..play room, small museum. What a dream.

The beach chairs were aweful. It was like sitting on a cruise ship with chairs lined up one next to the other with 18” between chairs. We had to get up at 5:00 am to place a towel to save a chair. Restaurants kept closing for dinner. Apparently, staffing issues. We expedited more for the money. Overall disappointed. Most likely NOT to retrun.

Probably the best beach on the big island and perfect relaxing oasis for big island excursions. This resort when fully operational is probably the epitome of discrete luxury with an eco sensibility. Manta was delicious. The staff were kind and went above and beyond to meet guest demands. The Manta moonlight excursion was magical. Sad that the pool was closed but as an ocean oriented family with a beautiful bay at our doorstep we didn't miss it. Banana bread is exceptional.

We loved the room accommodations, but due to construction renovations the self parking was limited. Our golf view room would have been great, if not for the eyesore caused by valet parking all over the front of the hotel.

Gorgeous beach, strong cocktails, we had the best time soaking it all in. Only hiccup was the construction—balcony air wasn’t as breezy/fresh. Still, can’t wait to return. Big thanks to all the friendly staff

The resort was not full because of the construction. It will be beautiful when completed. We enjoyed the ability to get a chair at the beach and pool. The construction didn’t bother us. We enjoyed our stay there very much.

Our room is beach front with patio. We had the most amazing view. The beach is great and plenty of chairs and umbrellas. The food is amazing. There are constructions going however didn't it feel like it. It didn't feel like everyone is on top of each other. I will definitely stay here again.

There’s no upgrade, no late check out, nothing special and the property is going thru construction. Equipment for ocean activities rental are old. Don’t feel pleasant with the price we paid.

The Mauna Kea is a stunning property with wonderful amenities for the whole family. We had full use of surf boards, boogie boards, SUPs, kayaks and snorkel equipment throughout our stay. The resort is elegant and has beautiful walks; the restaurants and bars are priced highly as you'd expect, but the quality of food and drinks is very good. Staff were incredibly helpful and very friendly. We did the Authentic Sails experience while we were there and cannot recommend it highly enough. We found that to secure a bed on the beach, we had to get there very early (7-8:30). You are permitted to reserve a bed for a couple of hours, so people tend to go down early, reserve all the best beds, and then disappear and come back later which is a little irritating. There's nothing to do but play the game unfortunately. Finally, the room wasn't huge and for a family of 4 sharing, it was a little cramped. However, we felt safe enough at the resort to let our kids (10 and 13) come and go throughout the day, so they had their own space when they needed it. Overall, the property exceeded our already high expectations and we can't wait to return.

The beach is beautiful! It’s worth every penny but as far as the room and service they could improve. They didn’t change the pillow cases and they smelled like sweat. A few staff members were slow and unfriendly. They could use better body wash, shampoo and conditioner for the price of the room.

We have stayed in this hotel a few times before, the bed is very uncomfortable, mattresses need to be changed, sheets and covers were dirty, the curtains doesn’t close properly, the food is mediocre at the best, the beach is nice. However, you can’t sit in a huge area, preserved for VIPs, you feel that you are treated as a second class citizen. Not worth the money, doubt we will stay again in it.

The resort has a beautiful stretch of beach with comfortable lounge chairs, friendly staff, & clean rooms. The grounds are adorned with gorgeous flowering trees and shrubs, a Buddha statue atop a steep flight of wide stairs, and plenty of spots to view the sunset. We had a room with an ocean/sunset view which was well worth the extra cost. The market offered amazing Kona coffee drinks and less expensive snack options. The restaurants were unbelievably overpriced! There were no affordable options, and dinner reservations are required. The boutique shops were nice, particularly Noa Noa. The parking valets were great. Overall, a lovely resort but not spectacular.

Amazing stay at the Mauna Kea as always, the entire staff was kind and helpful and provided everything needed for a fantastic vacation. Small service details like two luggage holders, ample towels, water bottles, morning coffee stations etc. made us feel at home. The beach crew was exceptional, Victor went above and beyond to help us get started with the SUPs and enjoy all the beach amenities. The beach equipment being free now is a huge plus for us, it really made it carefree to enjoy whatever activities we wanted, whenever we felt like it. We knew about the construction in advance and it didn't affect our stay too much. Yes the un-renovated room was showing its age but still clean and comfortable. Food was ok but the menus need updating with more fresh/healthy and grab/go options like the Westin. All in all the Mauna Kea remains our favorite hotel on our favorite beach in Hawaii and we can't wait to return!

The ambiance and overall property is truly amazing and beautiful. It has the best vibe of an older era of resorts, which we loved for our honeymoon. Views and sunsets are epic. Food and service is great. Plantings inside the hotel need an upgrade and a few things in our room needed fixing otherwise a perfect week. Best of all, it has the best beach on the big island in my view.

This is the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Understated and tasteful elegance. Fantastic rooms with amazing balconies, world class beach, impeccable service, excellent grounds, fine dining at Manta, but also a beachfront casual bar/restaurant, and Copper Bar in between and our favorite. They have an Asian Art Collection worthy of a museum. This was out of our usual price range, a big splurge, and worth every penny. We are already trying to figure out how to swing it to go back next winter.
This is the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Understated and tasteful elegance. Fantastic rooms with amazing balconies, world class beach, impeccable service, excellent grounds, fine dining at Manta, but also a beachfront casual bar/restaurant, and Copper Bar in between and our favorite. They have an Asian Art Collection worthy of a museum. This was out of our usual price range, a big splurge, and worth every penny. The Mauna Kea is a stunning property with wonderful amenities for the whole family. We had full use of surf boards, boogie boards, SUPs, kayaks and snorkel equipment throughout our stay. The resort is elegant and has beautiful walks; the restaurants and bars are priced highly as you'd expect, but the quality of food and drinks is very good. Staff were incredibly helpful and very friendly. We did the Authentic Sails experience while we were there and cannot recommend it highly enough. We found that to secure a bed on the beach, we had to get there very early (7-8:30). You are permitted to reserve a bed for a couple of hours, so people tend to go down early, reserve all the best beds, and then disappear and come back later which is a little irritating. There's nothing to do but play the game unfortunately. Finally, the room wasn't huge and for a family of 4 sharing, it was a little cramped. However, we felt safe enough at the resort to let our kids (10 and 13) come and go throughout the day, so they had their own space when they needed it. Overall, the property exceeded our already high expectations and we can't wait to return.

The hotel is very special. The views are spectacular and the staff is excellent. we upgraded to a deluxe room because when we arrived There was construction going on in the area where our room was going to be situated. The food is very expensive so we found ourselves going out for meals. That said, the Manta restaurant has wonderful food, I recommend the lamb chops 😊. You definitely need a car if you stay at the hotel. It is isolated and wherever you go it’s 15-20 minutes to get there. I recommend going to the Queens marketplace to the gourmet grocery shop. Also to the lava breakfast restaurant in Waikoloa Village. This was my third visit to the hotel and the hotel could use some updating But overall it’s a wonderful hotel. However, I would advise against the luau. For two the price of the luau was $450. The food was subpar, and I’m being kind, and the show other than the fire twirler was nothing special.

The resort has a beautiful stretch of beach with comfortable lounge chairs, friendly staff, & clean rooms. The grounds are adorned with gorgeous flowering trees and shrubs, a Buddha statue atop a steep flight of wide stairs, and plenty of spots to view the sunset. We had a room with an ocean/sunset view which was well worth the extra cost. The market offered amazing Kona coffee drinks and less expensive snack options. The restaurants were unbelievably overpriced! There were no affordable options, and dinner reservations are required. The boutique shops were nice, particularly Noa Noa. The parking valets were great. Overall, a lovely resort but not spectacular.

Amazing stay at the Mauna Kea as always, the entire staff was kind and helpful and provided everything needed for a fantastic vacation. Small service details like two luggage holders, ample towels, water bottles, morning coffee stations etc. made us feel at home. The beach crew was exceptional, Victor went above and beyond to help us get started with the SUPs and enjoy all the beach amenities. The beach equipment being free now is a huge plus for us, it really made it carefree to enjoy whatever activities we wanted, whenever we felt like it. We knew about the construction in advance and it didn't affect our stay too much. Yes the un-renovated room was showing its age but still clean and comfortable. Food was ok but the menus need updating with more fresh/healthy and grab/go options like the Westin. There’s no upgrade, no late check out, nothing special and the property is going thru construction. Equipment for ocean activities rental are old. Don’t feel pleasant with the price we paid.

This is the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Understated and tasteful elegance. Fantastic rooms with amazing balconies, world class beach, impeccable service, excellent grounds, fine dining at Manta, but also a beachfront casual bar/restaurant, and Copper Bar in between and our favorite. They have an Asian Art Collection worthy of a museum. This was out of our usual price range, a big splurge, and worth every penny. We are already trying to figure out how to swing it to go back next winter.

The ambiance and overall property is truly amazing and beautiful. It has the best vibe of an older era of resorts, which we loved for our honeymoon. Views and sunsets are epic. Food and service is great. Plantings inside the hotel need an upgrade and a few things in our room needed fixing otherwise a perfect week. Best of all, it has the best beach on the big island in my view.

Look no further, their salt water pool is like swimming in cream..and the beach is prestine, good snokeling opportunity easy to see manta rays when sun sets via a short snokel swim or view point for those who do not want to go in. There are guided tours, but people also swam out without a tour. Rooms are beautifully put together with local treats, and two thermos and water station on your floor, sunscreen available at most stations, cucumber water, poolside service, beautiful restaurant..Manta delicious..i came here after roughing it in Hilo...this was the perfect ending to my trip. I went with 2 kids....absolutely kid friendly ..play room, small museum. What a dream.

Probably the best beach on the big island and perfect relaxing oasis for big island excursions. This resort when fully operational is probably the epitome of discrete luxury with an eco sensibility. Manta was delicious. The staff were kind and went above and beyond to meet guest demands. The Manta moonlight excursion was magical. Sad that the pool was closed but as an ocean oriented family with a beautiful bay at our doorstep we didn't miss it. Banana bread is exceptional.

Privacy and view of the accommodation was a big plus. Staff were helpful and friendly. Restaurants were very good, especially Manta. Snorkeling was most enjoyable. 👍

Everything was amazing…from check-in, beach staff, Hau Tree & Manta staff, valets. Only negative was the hours for the Copper Bar. No food until late in the day so we never got to eat there. Sad to leave, will definitely return, and highly recommend!

Stayed while property was under renovation on half of it. Had to listen to some jack hammers while eating and sun bathing. Was not happy about limited access to snacks & food. Over all would be a great experience when fully open. When I booked it wasn’t disclosed it wasn’t fully open.

As advertised, the staff is exemplary! All you need to do is ask and a member of the staff will fulfill your request quickly. We had a problem with our TV and they replaced the entire TV in about 15 minutes. The staff has a sense of pride when it comes to making sure everything works at Mauna Kea and that all of your needs are met! Our room was meticulously cleaned daily and again, you can ask housekeeping for anything and they will respond to the request promptly. You won't find a better beach than the one at Mauna Kea Beach. It's an all sand beach as far as you can walk out into the ocean. I highly recommend the Mauna Kea Beach hotel and will return there in the future.

It's an all sand beach as far as you can walk out into the ocean. I highly recommend the Mauna Kea Beach hotel and will return there in the future.

An amazing location and in my mind the most beautiful hotel in the world. Been going there since the 70s. The staff and food isnt quite up to what ths hotel deserves, but still good, i understand the limited pool of workers to draw from. But just outstanding!!
