Parking secure but a few minutes walk away. Didn't realise no lift and we were on top floor, so not ideal especially when husband had bad foot. The decor was in need of attention in room

Old coaching inn with busy bar. No elevator and rooms up long winding stairs and no staff to help carry bags so avoid if infirm or with loads of heavy bags. Breakfast superb and it’s very much in the center of town so great location. Service willing if a bit strained.

Free parking facility not large enough to accommodate all guests, definitely first come first served. Premium room fairly standard. Food pub style in restaurant. That said the sraff were very friendly and helpful.

The building is very old so obviously it has its faults room was very old and the bathroom needs a full refurbishment. However the room and bathroom were spotless. Staff were very helpful and attentive everything we asked for was provided even a fan heater. The stairs are very steep so anyone with mobility problems will struggle. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice of both hot and cold food. A good stay in a characterful hotel.

Clean and comfy rooms. Finding the room was interesting, multiple staircases to go up and down. Secure parking but not much space. Wasn’t very clear that you had to check in with the staff behind the bar.

Parking was secure, if a bit tight. Bar is nicely presented and food is good. Staff were all lovely. Only downside is that the area of the hotel where the rooms are needs some refurbishment.

Great value for money. Comfortable beds. Good breakfast. The parking area is extremely tight, so worth arriving early to get a spot although we couldnt check in until 3pm. A code is needed to open the garage door.

People need to realise this is an old building therefore decor and some areas reflect this. This in no way hindered our stay. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Better directions for hotel car park needed as it is at the rear of property .

Easy to find. Warm atmosphere on arrival. Pub was modern but classic.Wayne and all of the staff were very welcoming and polite. They went above and beyond to change the menu for my very fussy child! Breakfast was lush with a great choice of cold and hot options. Our family room was large, clean and had lovely little touches of coffee, water and biscuits. Parking secure around the back. Great base for sightseeing, visiting Longleat and catching the bus into Bath. 100% would recommend

The staff we very friendly. They couldn't do enough to make our stay pleasant and enjoyable. The room was spotless and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. We highly recommend the George Hotel

I think this room is a health hazard. Quite a lot of Black mould inside the window, other moukd on the ceiling above window. A lot of paint peeling off & fallen above bed, a lot of cracks & peeling on walls. In the shower above on the ceiling is further mould. I have a family member who’s developed life threatening conditions as a result of mould so I do not find it acceptable to rent out rooms in this condition. Even the curtain linings were all cracked. I have photos. I’d like a refund. I suggest this is rectified as an urgent matter.

We had a warm welcome on arrival. We were taken to our room 14 it had a four poster bed in the room which was very old dust and the mattress was like sleeping on the floor. Going around to the wardrobe smelt very musky so did not use. On too the window such gaps was like living on the main road. The curtains were just full of dust. The bath room needs a good make over mould on ceiling and extraction fan not working and lots of filling in. The carpet in the bed room needs cleaning or replacing. The food was very limited and poor ingredients for a hotel. I can not understand why this is called a hotel when really should be a bed and breakfast.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spotless as was the bathroom. Food excellent and reasonably priced.

The restaurant and bar area were very nice and cosy, the breakfast very nice with lots of choice. The staff were lovely and friendly. Parking was a disappointment, limited, although there was parking 200 yards away. The photos on the web site looked far better than my room, think I may have had the worst in the hotel (8). Drab colour, no soul, flaking paint and plaster missing in bedroom and bathroom, cracks, and dirty grout. Shower head poor and Wi-Fi kept dropping out. Room was clean otherwise. £106pn.

I was very impressed with The George Hotel. I had a very spacious room and bathroom. The bed itself was massive! Slight wear and tear as to be expected, but it was very clean and lots of toiletries on hand. It's located in a great spot, central to all the shops and local landmarks and walkable from the train station. The food was absolutely incredible and reasonably priced. I would definitely stay here again.

We were given a “quiet” room at the back but it was noisy. Avoid room 16 as there is a noisy industrial extractor fan outside the window and you can hear noises from staff in a kitchen beyond midnight and starts again 6am

We had a nice size room, bed was very comfy. Bathroom was a nice size, there was paint peeling off in bathroom but that did bother us. Unfortunately as we were facing the town Center it was very noisy at night. So didn’t get much sleep.

I booked a single room, and the room was a single, with single bed and small bathroom, very small shower, and water pressure in the shower was not great, and stopped completely halfway through my second day shower. The room was at the top of the house, up three flights of stairs, no lift. I managed to carry my case up two flights, then needed to return to the bar to ask for help. This was given with no problem, and to carry my case down at the end of my stay, but I feel the help should have been offered at check in, especially as I am clearly an older person. I consider myself fairly fit for my age, but the stairs were beyond me. I assume the single rooms are all on the top floor, and this should have been clear on the booking info. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Good provision of tea/coffee etc, and biscuits every day. Electric fan provided, Essential for this hot weather. Lots of electric plugs, so I could charge phone, laptop and other stuff at the same time. Breakfast included, not great, but a good variety offered. Good service at breakfast, friendly and helpful staff. The car park is behind the pub, accessed via a coded locked gate.

This is predominantly a pub rather than a hotel. The reception is in the bar and the rooms area is sadly in need of redecoration modernisation and new carpets. We stayed in room 7 which required a trek through the building. The room was small and the en suite tiny. Having said that, although it need renovation it was spotlessly clean and the range of toiletries was good and the towels large. The food in the bar was good quality although drinks were expensive. Car parking was secure, if tight for a large SUV.

Stayed here for one night with my wife as a little birthday getaway and we wanted to try a local restaurant. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and check in was a breeze. The room was big and clean and the bed was large and comfy. We had a deluxe room with a balcony which was lovely to stand on and watch the hustle and bustle below. Breakfast was great - a small cold selection but the hot food, cooked to order, was bang on. Staff were lovely at breakfast, we were very happy and highly recommended!

Rooms at the front are on a busy road on a corner. Windows open mean noisy! This has the attraction of being an old building but, yes, it’s an old building.

Located in the heart of the wonderful town of Frome the George Hotel is a historic landmark of the town and presents really well from the outside, this continues into the bar and restaurant area however once you climb the stairs to the rooms in becomes less welcoming with tired décor, threadbare carpets and more…. The customer service, or the lack of it, at check in was astonishingly inept and dreadful in its operation, not a kind word of welcome, just a customer that was treated as an annoyance to be dealt with as soon as possible without any regard to any kind of service, no offer to assisted with bags, which would have been welcomed given there was no lift and the room was two floors above, up some steep stairs. The room was very compact, the bed was one of the smallest I have seen in a hotel room, not the promised double bed displayed on the website images for the room type, the mattress was very good yet the duvet and pillows were not so. The television was very modern and the Wi-Fi was excellent. The room was clean yet had décor issues especially in the bathroom, the very compact bathroom was nearly not functional due to its size, however once in the shower the water pressure was excellent. One of the other problems that I encountered was the external noise from an extractor fan which was exceptional loud throughout the evening yet ended at around ten pm only to re-commenced at 7am waking me and not permitting th

We booked to stay at the George Hotel in order to be near Longleat for the Festival of Light! The stay was, unfortunately, very disappointing. On arrival, we were informed that the free parking offered and advertised by the hotel was full and we would need to park in a nearby pay-and-display. We we arrived in our room the windows were all open (it was -1 degrees!!) and the heating was off. The lights also did not work. My husband raised this with staff, who half-heartedly said they would "try and sort it". Nothing came of this. At some point in the evening the heating did seem to kick in, but the lights were never sorted and we weren\'t offered an alternative room. We had also booked dinner reservations months in advance for the hotel dining. On arrival for dinner I received and email stating "we\'re sorry that you cancelled your dinner reservation" - I hadn\'t!! The staff then informed my husband and I that they were sorry, but since our booking was made they\'d taken a booking for a large Christmas party and they would be unable to seat us. All in all, the staff were unhelpful and not accommodating, the room was freezing and the lights didn\'t work. In addition - the doorways are all super small (not a problem in itself), but there were no signs indicating this and I consequently (not helped by our pitch-black room) whacked my head on the doorway to our ensuite (I\'m 5ft9 so not super tall!!) and still have a bump on the top of my head. I would like my money back.

Great staff, so friendly, good with allergies, impressive menu. Relaxed bar area, separate dinning room. Room was lovely, quirky with slanted door and uneven floors. Breakfast had lots of choice. Easy check out. Would definitely recommend and stay longer next time.

Terrible check-in. After a 3 hr journey I waited for approx 10mins at 'Reception' (a computer at the bar!) just wanting to find out where the hotel car-park was while a staff member had a long, long, discussion on the phone about a booking and my friend had pulled in to a lay-by outside. Only 2 staff members on duty, the other staff member was new & had no idea about the car park. Extremely frustrating after a long drive and the staff member just ignored me. We eventually had a code to enter the padlocked car park and a customer actually showed me how to find the car park as he said we would never find it. Found car-park, opened padlock with code, pulled back heavy door, only to find the car park was full. What a waste of time! Found parking easily in nearby public car park. Hotel and room were clean, great breakfast (although fried egg was hard) with lots of choice and good quality and great location. Hotel not as it looked in photo's (not olde-worlde as we had thought. Quite basic, pub-like. Good quality products in room and soft towels. Ask for back/side room, my friend was in a noisy room at the front. Manager & staff very friendly and efficient (apart from check-in). Would stay again

The staff were cheerful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. Wayne was lovely, cheerful, a real character! The building is very old, so to get to our room, it was up and down stairs, along corridors, really quaint, but not for someone with limited mobility. - I’m sure you can request a room with easier access. The room itself was ‘small but perfectly formed’, it did what it was supposed to! The paint was peeling off in the bathroom, but it was clean and well stocked with all the toiletries you need. Tea & coffee making facilities were excellent, selection of teas, and coffee bags! Big tick form us there! We ate in the pub too, lovely freshly cooked food, served promptly, and was hot! Breakfast was delicious, selection of cereals, pastries spreads fruit juice etc. lovely strong coffee, and served by the lovely Wayne, what more could we ask for! The car park was ‘tight’ but again, free, - I was just pleased my husband was driving! Overall we had a lovely stay, and would go back again in a jiffy. Thank you everyone! X

Visiting longleat with family. Not easy to find at night & not familiar with area. Car park was far too small so parked in town car park. Bed was very big and breakfast was delicious.

Great stay, breakfast really good, staff excellent and friendly. Ask for a room away from the main road, the constant noise and fumes from the buses outside are dreadful.

Perfectly situated

On arrival we were greeted at the bar by a lovey gentleman whose name I believe was Wayne, he was very welcoming and great fun to talk to. The check in process was very easy and the room was everything we wanted. The location of the hotel was perfect, situated in the town centre. The food and service at the pub was great, certainly no complaints and we were very pleased to find “trickles” on the menu, something me and my partner were both very excited to try and they didn’t disappoint

There were far too many stairs and communal areas were dark and dingy, the carpets seriously needed replacing. The food menu choice was poor with only 4 ok ish meals before the rest were vegan and vegetarian. On my first night I ordered the steak, I had seen a customer, who’s steak was fat and juicy, when mine arrived it was 1 centimetre thick and so tough I couldn’t even get my fork in it. I asked for my money back.

We had a great say. The pub quiz on Sunday night (I think it’s once a month) was really fun. Staff very welcoming. The Sunday roast looked great but we only ate for breakfast. It was great value for money would stay again.

Rooms a bit dated, and the shower requires a new shower head. Evening meals were very slow at coming out, well over an hour. Breakfast was ok, but again slow at coming out.

We booked for the secure parking as it was a stop off on our holiday trip, highly recommend if this is important for your trip. Parking and breakfast included in the price of the room too, making the stay a bargain. The 2 ladies serving Breakfast were brilliant and we left feeling very welcomed and positive due to their good spirit and hospitality, thankyou! We also ate in the pub on the evening and food was excellent with good portions. Would definitely stay again

Room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was small but with good toiletries. The breakfast was mediocre. Not a great choice on the cold buffet and not great quality. I asked for scrambled egg, toast and some bacon and this seemed to be an issue. (Although it wouldn't have been an issue if I had had the full English!) Didn't know if I could have bacon and scrambled egg. When it arrived it wasn't very warm, the toast was barely browned and cheap!
