Expedia noted "free breakfast". Not true. They offered beignets, IF you happened to see someone connected to the hotel (doubt anyone would consider this "breakfast"). NOLA cafe next door was nice. Rooms were very small, but had everything you would need. would have been nice if they were a little clearer on how the parking worked. with no one manning the front desk, it was difficult to find out information (e.g. breakfast, parking, touristy info etc)

This place was wonderful! The crew was great, the restaurant was very good and it was a small town. We loved the walk around the lake, and enjoyed karaoke with the family at the restaurant. It is such a vool little place and a unique experience. Our family had a wonderful time here.

There are a few things that are stated on the site, that the Hotel does Not Have. Fittness Center. Does not have. There is a gym next door is all I was told. Breakfast- sort of, It is not available until 9:00am. I was long gone by then. But it is a unique and quaint hotel. I enjoyed my stay. Just did not have everything they said that it had.

the hotel is truly gorgeous. complete with its own restaurant bar. nice high ceilings, working A/C, etc. The only issue i really had was a room mix up, and the fact that all the staff immediately goes to work in the restaurant so you have to go looking for assistance if you have need of anything.

Nice old charming room, clean and friendly service don't forget about complimentary beignets in the morning with coffee. The restaurant is amazing and a good bar

Loved the historic hotel. Close to everything. Cafe Nola had a great bar. Annie the bartender was excellent! Karaoke was fun! Friday and Sat nights. The hotel provides bar soap. No shampoo, conditioner or lotion. The bed was comfortable. Loved the high ceilings and ceiling fan. I highly recommend this hotel for a quaint stay.

We checked in late. But there was a key with our invoice showing our names & room over the counter. That was nice. A lady came by spoke to us. The lobby was pretty. There was an elevator. A plus. At our age we appreciated it. Our room. We were not impressed. Two thin pillows. Sink faucet was dirty. No hair conditioner. I have long hair & needed it. From the toilet seat, I could see under the bed was filthy. The curtains were thin & not fully covered the morning lights. The whole things changed my 4star review to a 2-3 star.

Great renovation of a beautiful property. Staff was excellent and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. Definitely making this stop out of Florida!

Cute 1920s time period. However, no one to greet you or how to get into the hotel. The bed was not a queen size but a full size. One of had to sleep on the divan. No extra blankets. Minimal towels. Ceiling fans caked with dust. Then there was the cockroaches, some type of flying stick like creature and a wasp. No breakfast. Had coffee but no water. Parking was on the street

I took my mother to Hotel Defuniak for Mother's Day weekend to enjoy some quiet and a touch of history. I read mixed reviews after booking and was hoping the negative ones were wrong. They were not. We stayed in the Presidential Suite, and it was definitely the worst place I've ever booked. When we walked in, there was dust so thick across the headboard of the main bed my mom was going to sleep in that I had to take toilet paper and wet it some just to wipe it off. Even the comforter had stuff all over the top. In the corner of the room between the main bed and the bunks was a large amount of sand where shoes has obviously been sitting, and the shag rug nearby was filthy. It had clearly not been vacuumed. Around the base of the toilet, there was dried urine in large amounts. Someone also left part of their glasses in the room that were still there, so that tells you how efficient "house cleaning" was. My mom was a great sport with things, but they got more interesting as the night went on and we fell alseep. Someone came into the room- literally through two locked doors. My mom heard the door opening and began waking in time to hear, "There's someone in here." They left, but really? Could not even report this because there was noone waiting when we checked in or out. And we left pretty quickly in the morning. The only plus was maybe Cafe Nola, but even it did not live up to what I had heard. It was good, but nothing that wowed you. The nicest part of our trip was Perla's.

It was such a beautiful historic hotel and area. I truly enjoyed walking around the spring and the quaint downtown. Unfortunately, it wasn't as pleasant a stay as I would've liked. The carpets in elevator and on stairway were worn and filthy. The couches and chairs in the lobby looked worn and the color concept needs updating. There are fake dusty plants in the lobby. And, I didn't have control over the thermostat in my room. It was boiling hot at night. I was given the opportunity to switch to a smaller room where the TV didn't work but ended up staying in my previous room. I tried to open the windows but the heater won. Suffice it to say I didn't get much sleep. This hotel has so much potential its a shame its not well maintained. All in all the staff was helpful and nice and the town itself along with the architecture were worth seeing.

I think people forget that this is an old building and it’s not meant to have some of the modern properties and features new ones do but the room was great, very clean and comfy. It’s a quiet area basically down town and it has small town charm all around. It’s not far from the interstate but far enough to feel disconnected. The staff was super friendly even though this is more of a self serve place. They did advertise free breakfast but I didn’t see it 😅 other than that, I can’t wait to stay again.

Hotel DeFuniak, there was no staff when we arrived but I soon realized that I didn't read the special instructions that was sent to me with the confirmation. My wife and I researved a room about 30 mins before arriving and figured there would be someone manning the front desk. The hotel does not have a staff, and guests should call before arriving to set up the arrival. The hotel was attached to a restaurant called Cafe NOLA. A couple of the cafe's employees asked if we needed help and one of them came and checked us in. So if you stay, make sure you call ahead of time. The building that the hotel is in, is an old masonic lodge with Freemason systems on the top of the building. The inside of the hotel was cute and looked like it was from the pages of the 1920s. The hotel is two stories, the rooms located on the 2nd floor. Our room faced the street below. We were surprised how loud the noise of the street was as cars drove by. The floors were real hardwood and I wouldn't be surprised if they were the original flooring. As we walked across our room, the floors would squeak with every step. The room was small but very charming. I was impressed with how clean it was. The room also had a mini frig and flat-screen tv. The furniture

Owner is an amazing guy. This was our 2nd stay and he is always so friendly. The room was clean, and comfortable. The restaurant also has great food. We will be staying there everytime we pass through.

It's older, and very overpriced for what you get. There was no free breakfast like advertised. My room smelled really bad.

Quaint hotel in quaint town. After they resolved the initial mix-up over the type of room we booked the stay was OK however some attention to detail would have improved the stay - the elevator carpet (gross) and the stair carpet desperately need replacing. The noise from the street at night was loud and so until double-glazing is fitted you need to book a room with an odd number so you are not disturbed by traffic. The "free" breakfast doesn't commence until 9.00am and so was of no use to us - this should be publicized in the hotel description - which travelers on a road trip can hang around the hotel until 10.00am?

Stayed here on road trip heading west. Its a real gem- a totally unique building and hotel in a really lovely town. The hotel checkin was contactless but super easy and the room was unique in a fun and good way. Clean and big enough for one night.

The room was very nice. Bed was comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay. We never saw a single human in the hotel while we were there! Breakfast beignets were provided between 9am -1030am , we weren't able to partake due to we always left hotel before 9am.

Nice lobby. Friendly staff. Orbitz says breakfast but that isnt so. Bed covers could use an update. Room 12 has a lot of traffic noise and front stained glass window needs a curtain.

We loved the look of this hotel. The staff and owner were very friendly and helpful. We did not like that we reserved what we thought was two separate bedrooms, but when we got inside the room the bedrooms were open to each other. The beds were not comfortable. We also did not appreciate that the room was right next to a busy highway so we could hear every car that passed.

There is no staff so this is a self-service location. The associated restaurant/bar was great but not sure the connection to the hotel. Again calling this a hotel may be a stretch as its just a location with a bed/shower and auto-check-in

Everything about my stay went as planned. The building is over 100 years old and as such, I understood some of the quirks of the property. That is part of the experience staying at this property. My only area of dissatisfaction was with the climate control. it seem to have a mind of its own. However, they do say that the property is haunted. So maybe it wasn’t the climate control after all.

The Cafe Nola was excellent, the staff was nice. The room was okay, as the second 'bedroom' was open to the first, and had a creaky, metal bunkbed for kids. Was too expensive. The shower was great, but the room was right by the main road with no 'block-out' curtain (so it was noisy and BRIGHT every time a car drove by. Access to the lake with the walking path was great. A mixed bag, really. I gave the stay a 4, but the room was a 3 and the food was a 5, so 4 is the average.

There are many things to criticize, the main thing is the service or lack thereof by the hotel personal, you simply can never find them. I like though to keep this positive, the place does have a nice old style charm. The most positive thing itself is downtown Defuniak Springs, at this time of the year its magical. We enjoed a stroll around the lake tremendously, the lights are beautiful. We came here for the night from the nearby Panama City and came to the conclusion that our much bigger city doesn't offer this kind of festivities. Panama City likes to use Hurricane Michael as an excuse for it's lack of a anything nice this time of the year, anything you find is by individuals and not by the city. My closing words to the hotel, try harder.

The personal service was outstanding. The best ever!

When booking this hotel we were absolutely prepared for a “vintage” experience. What we actually received was something quite different. After booking our reservation we called and couldn’t quite get an adult to talk to on the phone, which was definitely our first red flag. Upon check in at 10pm we let our selves into the lobby with a provided code and then literally went over to the counter and picked up our key..which was next to other people’s keys and personal information. Not secure at all!! The room was dusty, with old rough sheets and ripped towels. The bed was U shaped and my husband and I spent the whole night back to back. The air conditioning was password protected and we were gifted the privilege of using an old window unit which was louder than a jet engine. Upon check out we searched for any form of life, and found no one. Just an empty lobby. We literally left our key on the table and walked our. When getting in our car we saw a women and an undressed child in the attached restaurant and asked if our checkout was complete. She gave us a wave and that was it. This place could be fantastic, but seriously needs some TLC. A good cleaning, new linens and a single employee would be a good place to start. We viewed it as glamping and it’s making for a good laugh with the friends and family. For the hotels sake, we hope they remedy their issues soon!

Great historic building with old school style hotel where the owner/chef is likely to check you in. It's not the Hilton and you are left alone to enjoy your privacy. Rooms are clean and the restaurant is classic style with great staff and food. Relax and enjoy authentic small town American hospitality.

I would stay here again,but I dont understand where to start with the problems. it's like no one runs the place.I never saw a manager or desk clerk. I walked next door to the restaurant and asked what what going on? A very helpful kitchen employee came over and gave us the key. I would mention his name but feel like I should let him remain nameless.he was extremly helpful,but not the hotel clerk.We and other guest had real issues with the rooms and he did his best to help.Isssues like,no one could get the heat working,the water spigots in the room leaked,the bathroom door wouldnt stay closed,the racks in the bathroom were falling apart,a ladder to a bunk bed collapsed on a guest,thier room wasnt clean.I think all that needs to happen is to get an employee to work at the hotel! It is a great nostalgic place with so much potential,if someone would just address a few issues and fix some very minor problems that seem to be stacking up. I did not ruin our stay,just thought it should be mentioned.

Arrived at the hotel at 5 pm to find the front desk dark and unstaffed. The key to my room was left on the counter along with my personal information. We proceeded to our room and observed that the hotel was run down. The paint was peeling off the walls in the hallway. We entered the room and it looked like it was frozen in time from 1970. Tried to turn on the tv and it didn’t work. The batteries in the remote were corroded. I went downstairs and was informed by the restaurant staff that there was no one on duty. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had.

As hotel guests, it was frustrating that there was no hotel staff to talk to - especially when we ran out of toilet paper. There was no extra in the room and calling the hotel didn’t get me to a person to ask about the TP. It would have been nice to have someone talk to.

An interesting place to stay. The strip around back has some nice shops and friendly people. Nice day trip.

This is such a quaint and historic gem!! Last minute chose to book a room here and I’m so glad that we did!! The owner was also so friendly and there are the sweetest little shops that are walking distance.

We liked everything about it. The staff went above and beyond. The bed and pillows were wonderful. The room was spacious and comfortable. We love the historic look of the whole hotel. Walking to the lake and downtown restaurants and stores was close by. The attached restaurant was amazing. We will be back

Price was great. Really enjoyed the stay. The ambiance was as though we stepped back into the past. Loved that when we arrived 3 hours early, our old style key was waiting for us at the desk. We enjoyed walking to the restaurants, bars, and lake ( Christmas Reflections was fantastic) If you’re expecting 5 star resort vibe ( we werent ) the place is not for you. We were hoping for some super natural abnormal activity but nothing in Room 3. Maybe the twins were busy in another room. Lol would definitely stay again.

Great little hotel, if you are looking for a “mom and pop” kind of experience this is it. Has a convenient restaurant and bar on the first floor. Close to mayor highways. I would recommend and if I happen to be in the area again I would definitely stay here

My stay was awesome. Looked completely updated/renovated. The restaurant was absolutely amazing. Chef Ernie is very nice and the food was the best around. Defuniak is lucky to have this guy there. The staff was friendly and the whole place was very clean. I travel regularly in that area and will stay again.
