This hotel could use some updating. Half of the machines in the gym don't work and the carpets are very old and dingy. The staff is terrific but wish the hotel itself was a bit fresher

The staff was very friendly and the vibe of the lobby was wonderful with the bar, pool table and live jazz music. The quality of the room was disappointing. It was very dusty on the wall, AC unit and on little things like the alarm clock next to the bed, the sink had a sewage smell coming out of it and we noticed a weird ring around the top of it, the shower wouldn’t drain properly and our first night there we noticed the carpet in the room was soaking wet on the opposite side of the shower wall by the bed my guess is due to a leak. We had to place a towel over it. Close to subway lines and plenty of places to eat. Overall, wouldn’t stay here again due to the quality of the room.

I would have given ALOFT 5stars across the board, except upon arrival your outdoor elevator to the hotel that’s downstairs was out of service I had to navigate downstairs in the sleeting rain and snow with my luggage nearly falling. I know the staff had to see me your cameras are everywhere, I could have fallen and hurt myself, that is my only complaint I have stayed at your other properties with no problems or complaint once in the building everyone and accommodations were great.

This hotel is in the middle of it all! I cannot express how great of a location and hotel this was! The service was excellent; there was a party in the lobby, and the food was surprisingly good. The hotel elevator needs repairs but other than that I will DEFINITELY visit again.

My husband and I spent my birthday night here at this cute, boutique hotel. Exceptional service upon walk in, received a free drink voucher at their bar. Room was very clean. Free wifi - internet service (youtube hulu etc) - breakfast included.

The hotel was dirty with dust and dirt in the crevices of the bathroom floor and shower. The coffee maker had grime all in the water reservoir. I had a few zoom meetings I had to take in the room and there was a dog that barked all day long and someone screaming on their phone. Overall, the pictures on the website make it appear nice and I generally have good experiences with Aloft but stay away from this hotel. It’s dirty, old, and not ideal for people who need peace and quiet.

Not a good stay. Staff was great though. Cleanliness of hotel was horrible. Rugs were coming up. Walls had stains on them. Random hand prints on walls. Mold and caked up mildew in and around bathroom and showers. I cut my leg shaving and sat on bed and did not realize blood got on sheet. They cleaned room while we were gone, made the bed and left the sheet with blood on it on the bed!!! Did not even replace the sheet. I have pics of everything, but Expedia did not give an option to attach them. This hotel needs some major renovations and the cleaning staff needs a talking to about how they are cleaning the rooms. The highlight was the kind and personable staff and the location to food etc. in the area.

The only thing going for this place was location. The hotel room was so run down. I did not take a shower because it was gross… dirty between the grout and the mirrors and glass were not clean. I kept my shoes and clothes on the entire time.

The first thing I noticed when I arrived to the hotel is the cleaning special the bed and I was comfortable with this one very clean and comfortable bed.. housekeeping very friendly and front desk answered all questions.

We stayed here as a budget option for our family trip of 4 to NYC for Christmas. The shower was excellent, the room was a little small but clean, the breakfast credit each morning was nice, my teenagers loved the pool table in the lobby. I expected more for the price that I paid for this room. There was a huge stain on the window shade. No drawers to place clothes in. No ambience. Just basic, plain. On par with a Comfort Inn but I paid more than Comfort Inn prices.

I stay at aloft hotels in every city I go too. The room was small and worn down. You can notice mold in the corners of the shower and on the ceiling. Dusty on the side of the bed. The TV didn’t work, it either froze and lagged when you pressed the buttons. It would not connect to Amazon prime or Netflix so I basically had to use my phone to watch movies. The repair guy came the first time when I couldn’t simply turn the TV on using the remote but when I reported the tv freezing and being slow to respond to changing the channels and no connect to Netflix or Amazon nobody came. Even though I called 3 times. I will never stay at aloft in Harlem. Horrible experience.

The heater in the room was very noisy. The engineer checked it twice but there was no improvement. In the middle of the night it sounded like a steam kettle was ready to blow. The hotel was very full and they didn't think they could find another room so I had to use earplugs to sleep.

While the room was on the smaller side, it was laid out very well to make the best use of the space. Having the room split so that the “living” quarters were facing the windows was great, it really lit up the room during the day. That being said the lights in the shower area were not very bright in comparrison. The ac worked very well, the bed was very comfortable and the hotel staff were very friendly and made great recommendations for dining.

Overall we had a great trip. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were neat and clean.The location was great everything was within walking distance & public transportation stopped right in front of the hotel. Only issue was it said it was a non smoking environment but everyday we had headaches from all the marijuana being smoked inside the hotel.

The hotel is in dire need of an update and improvements. In addition, the front desk staff makes an effort at trying to be welcoming by always smiling, however, they are severely lacking in their ability to resolve matters appropriately and responding to guests in a professional manner. Some additional training in hospitality and maintaining appositive image of the company they represent appears to be sorely needed at this Aloft. I had to be moved three times from October 18-19 due to a non-working television in one room and the poor conditions (gaps/holes in the walls, rusted furniture fixtures, odor, dirty rug, and totally deplorable appearance of a room that is supposed to be representative of the Marriott brand.

Fantastic hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. NEILANIE at the front desk, checked us in. She was so helpful. I loved staying here. Great location. Just around the corner from the subway. Will stay at again when I return to NYC.

They said they didn’t have room for us while I was checking in at 11pm. We were very tired and they had to sent us to a hotel for the first night and come back for the rest of two night. They said it was because I booked the hotel through the” third party”. Was it my fault it book the third party? They didn’t seem to be sorry. They made me feel like I should not have booked the hotel thought the third party. It was an awful night. I ended up finally checked in another hotel at 12am and came back to stay in their hotel. We had to because if I cancelled I have to do it through the third party not them.

Reception was not good. There was blankets in room and we called for an hour and no one picked up. The room was really cold and uncomfortable and no one picked up the phone to assist. We slept uncomfortably in the cold.

Would absolutely stay there again. It's in a great part of Harlem with the subway's right there and you're next door to Sugar Monk. The carpet in the room was kinda grubby, but location, location, location.

I was surprise at how quite and relaxing it was, with a location in the heart of a busy city. The bed was very comfotable. I loved how unique the setting was. I was in the city for one night and I enjoyed my stay, I totally forgot I was in NYC. I loved the acces to the transportation. Great location and atmosphere.

We stayed here as a budget option for our family trip of 4 to NYC for Christmas. The shower was excellent, the room was a little small but clean, the breakfast credit each morning was nice, my teenagers loved the pool table in the lobby. I wished our bathroom door locked but overall was a good value

My husband and I spent my birthday night here at this cute, boutique hotel. Exceptional service upon walk in, received a free drink voucher at their bar. Room was very clean. Free wifi - internet service (youtube hulu etc) - breakfast included.

Good basic hotel at a decent price near Columbia University. At least two great restaurants (Ethiopian and Spanish) within a five-minute walk and good selection of snacks and breakfast foods at the hotel store. I was REALLY impressed with how quiet the room was. Great staff -- everyone was friendly and helpful.

Stayed here numerous times about 4-5 years ago but it seems like the property is not maintained as well. It’s like if you don’t look too hard in the corners, you don’t have to see the water stains or peeling paint. Decent but used to be better.

Large room (two queen beds) but unfortunately the sheets were stained (both), the AC is either off or full blast, no middle ground, and the overall quality of materials is not there for $500 a night (in the bathroom in particular).

Arrived in NY to spend long weekend w/3 adult children. Check-in with reservation made months earlier which took a while. They were having issues w/rooms being cleaned and ready for afternoon check-in guests. Finally checked in. First room was literally 4 feet from elevator ... directly across ... only opened door a bit, but it was VERY musky. Heavy moist feeling. Went downstairs to ask for another room. Got assigned 2nd room. Entered and almost started crying. This property is DIRTY. It's not just DIRTY... it's horrifically unclean. 3 adult children coming into city from 2 other cities and I frantically started looking for another hotel w/available rooms. Found one. Had to pay for another Uber, but would have walked miles to distance us from Aloft. Went downstairs. Informed management I could not stay in hotel. Expected a fight. But it is as if they KNEW their shortcomings. Stayed in Super 8 decades ago as poor student. That is what this hotel looks and smells like and they have the audacity to charge $1671 for 3 nights?? The new, gleamingly clean hotel that I found was 10x better for 60% the price of Aloft. Side story ... when I was waiting for Uber to travel to 2nd hotel, another woman and her daughter were getting into an Uber just before me. Upon arrival at 2nd hotel, that same woman and daughter were in front of me checking in. I asked her if she was just at Aloft. She said "Yes - that was the most disgusting hotel. We had to leave!" Wish I could write more.
