St George Hotel Rochester-Chatham

Excellent customer service from Conor on reception. Very accommodating, helpful, friendly and professional. Great view of the river and onsite parking which is a bonus!

When I arrived at the hotel, sadly the car park that I'd checked on google maps was shuttered with a notice attached to use the rear. This was quite hard to find, as you have to turn down a steep left turn, then along a ropey looking high street, then take the second right, first left and then it on the right. There was no St Geroge Hotel named car park, it was the 'co-working' place next door - very confusing. Then you have to walk up some dodgy steps. Once inside the hotel was great. I only £40, so wasn;t expetcing anything grand, and I got a decent 3* star hotel, with a bar that was OK, a restaurant for breakfast downstairs, which was really nice and tasty (sausage, bacon, beans, toast, eggs, cereal, jams, juices, coffee and tea) and a big room with a double and one single for me and my duaghter. The bathroom, with a separate toilet, were both large and clean. Soap shower gel provided, tea and coffee making too, plus a big TV. Loads of room on the sideboard for making up etc, 3 or 4 sockets, and a heater on hand if it got cold. It was lovely and warm, comfy beds and an amazingly hot and poweful shower! In addition, wifi was great and free! Receptionist was nice too, and allowed me to take a takeaway pizza up to the room. All in, not somewhere I'd take my wife for a remantic getaway, but for a Uni open day for me and my daughter, it was perfect!

Check-in at 2pm but cannot park car until 4pm. Had to use a pay and display. No food on offer despite advertised on website. No Guiness. Nice view from room.

Underground Parking too low for mid-sized Van - Wedding meant No Dinning Room for Evening, was not advised until we arrived - However, within Walking distance of Town, where there are numerous options to Dine. Decent Room with River View. - Shower Good.

There was no prior information on parking, which is around the back of the hotel in a far from obvious location. It would be better to provide instructions on booking.

Staff are very friendly however the carpark was closed and i specifically chose this hotel for the parking. I had no notification prior to the stay to let me know aboit the parking, i had to pay £7 for on road parking. The rooms were very grubby, desk was damaged, bed wasnt sturdy (big dip in the middle), dripping tap from the shower constantly, not all the lights worked and shower wasnt powerful enough. Breakfast was nice however not all you can eat and only 1 of each cooked items so very underwhelmed.

An absolute disgaceful dump of a hotel. Dirty outdated rooms and staff with no interest or training. They say you can only park your car after 4.30pm which is terrible. The car park at the hotel itself is used for a select few whilst others have to park around the back in an unsecure unautorised car park. It is not always got spaces and there is no parking other than residents parking within half a mile. Never again....and I never normally complain...

Bar closed various times without warning most nights of our 18 night stay! Resteraunt closed without warning, menu had most meals unavailable

Clean but dated. The food is good, but the choice is limited - the online menu isn't available in the restaurant. Value for money is very good. The car park is at the bottom of a steep flight of concrete steps that have seen better days. Not for the elderly or infirm. Staff are all very friendly.

First impressions not very good. The reception desk had many tins of paint behind it which looked untidy. The welcome wasn’t great and once I got my room key there was no obvious sign as to where the rooms were on each floor - you had to go through an unmarked door to get to the rooms, hence I had to go back to the desk and ask for directions. The hotel wasn’t as smart as I’d been expecting but my “Delux Queen” room was tidy and clean with a nice size bed, a good size “smart” TV and a nice view over the River Medway. There was a separate bathroom which was a decent size, clean and tidy, with a shower over bath, however the ceramic tiled floor was cold underfoot, and there appeared to be a small leak of water or condensation around the toilet and sink pedestal. The breakfast was adequate but far from exciting. It was served lukewarm on the first two mornings however on the 3rd morning it was served a bit hotter. They had apple juice but no orange juice. The hotel information stated the hotel had free onsite parking but during my stay the parking area was actually closed off for some reason. I did manage to park on the small forecourt though. I thought the hotel was conveniently located as it was close to the High Street and to the bus & rail stations, and approx 25 minute walk to Rochester’s Cathedral and Castle. I initially booked a two night stay but I decided to book an extra night in order to visit the castle and surrounding area. I would rate the hotel 6/10

We have stayed here a number of times, generally speaking the place is okay regarding price v quality. This time I was disappointed with the cleaning of the room specifically the bathroom sink. I doubt that plug hole had been cleaned in months, hair, food and lord know what else. May have point me off revisiting.

Upon check in room was extremely untidy. There was signs of drug paraphernalia and beer bottle lids in the drawers where the refreshment area is. Empty food packaging and food in the bedside table. The bath was begrimed and the cups for tea and coffee also dirty. The bath however large was broken and the advertised jets don’t work, half a used toilet roll from previous guests on the holder and general cleanliness feeling was far from apparent. This was booked for an anniversary present for my partner. Needless to say it severely affected our stay. Only one member of staff manning the front desk and all enquiries and other problems. No managers accessible. I wanted to refund my booking but was unable at such short notice. Extremely upset and disappointed with the overall experience and fully expect some form of compensation or refund at the very least. All issues where made apparent ten mins after checking in and the lad on reception tried he’s best to make amends for the poor experience but was also alone so he’s efforts although appreciated where below par also. Basically implying if I stay the night I shouldn’t expect a refund or compensating because it appears happy with my room which I made it abundantly clear I wasn’t. And with no other rooms available and no funds to book elsewhere we were forced to stay as opposed to choosing too. Breakfast advertised with the room.. this is a basic cereal option. Hot breakfast is an extra charge which I feel is misleading

Hotel was very tired and the hallways and lift were a bit smelly

Sadly in need of a big update. There were cobwebs when I went in, the Tv had no signal, the reading light didn’t work and the shower was not a shower but just one long stream of water as would pour from a tap. Ignored breakfast and while it is a free breakfast, it isn’t very generous

Filthy Room with suspicious stains on the walls by the bed. Dirty carpet, filthy skirtings moldy bathroom, hair in the bed. Car park out of order so had to park round the back and walk up about 50 steep uneven steps, no good for people with mobility issues. Don't be fooled by the nice Photo, the rooms are absolutely disgusting. Still trying to get a refund as promised by receptionist Amy, but getting nowhere. We couldn't stay in the room for more than 5 mins as scared to catch something.

Clean room, staff were great

Not only was I fortunate to feel the prints in the hard mattress, I was able to also find someone else's fake lashes on the bathroom floor. The service over breakfast was shocking and every table was dirty even though no one was at the table.

Very, very poorly presented, tired and dirty. Big toe nail trimming in middle of my bedroom floor. It wasn't mine I lost mine 30 years ago. Shower stopped running half way through showering. Shower head bracket broken complete with DIY shower curtain. Shower dirty and need of repair and refurbishment. Toilet seat very loose. Room was absolutely tiny, good mattress and pillow although they were like sleeping on concrete. Breakfast was pathetic. AND it was bloody expensive.

Convenient location (between Chatham & Rochester), with free customer parking & breakfast included. Nice river view room. Certainly good value for money. However, the room & general facility is rather dated. Uncomfortable bed mattress. Also had a rather noisy neighbour (enjoying rather loud TV until 3am).

Booked a deluxe room overlooking the river. On arrival told the room wasn't available. Offered a sibgle room or very small double room with broken double glazing. The second night were given a better room. This was booked for a family relative's birthday. Disgraceful. Will book elsewhere next time. Still no refund.

The bed was seriously broken in the first bedroom I was allocated, to the extent that I cannot understand how the staff could have made up the bed without reporting it. The hotel was rather in need of an overhaul generally.

Great location, walking distance to both Rochester and Chatham. Single room was good size and ensuite. Decent breakfast. It is one of those old buildings where noise travels. Could hear bathroom ventilation from room next door, taps running, pipes squealing, door slamming - bring earplugs.

Decent but dated hotel. We were unfortunate to stay in the superior queen room, which is spacious with a view of the river. The main issue was the bathroom, which had no provision for a bathtub curtain, making the bath water flow on the floor.

My young son and I stayed for 2 nights. On arrival the receptionist checked us in quite speedily and we went up to our "Superior room" (queen deluxe). Yes the view was nice looking over the river, but the queen bed was 2 singles pushed together, 2 very old, flat pillows on each side of the bed, matress/bed was quite uncomfortable. The room was so uncomfortably hot on the first night, we had 2 small bottles of water in the room, which we needed, but these were not replaced the following day. There was at least 1 silver fish crawling around, which caught my eye. And attempting to watch the tv was impossible! The 5 channels available on the non-smart tv kept losing signal so was infuriating. Breakfast was included, cereals, toast and drinks were to hand, but the cooked options were limited to eggs, bacon, sausage and beans (listed on the little slip we had to fill in), but after we had eaten on the second morning, others seemed to have more options that were not listed! The slip stated sit down and someone will collect it, the first morning a man just stood there behind the counter and i had to run around taking the slip to him, the second morning there was a very nice man who actually enjoyed his job and made my little boy feel special at breakfast time! So thanks for that. So for the price we paid for a "superior room" was definitely not worth it, i should have asked for my money back and gone to a premier inn or travel lodge.

I thought the hotel and breakfast were excellent value for money. There really should have been more staff on, the poor receptionist was running around trying to do everything. I would definitely use the hotel again for my stay in Chatham.

The reception when i booked in wasnt helpfull at all. She just said heres your key and room it was. Didnt say which floor. Also she was given me and my granddaughter dirty looks as we come back in from being out. No heating apart from a little heater. I spoke to another member of staff and reported that blonde one who checked us in. Holes in the walls dirty sink where the eater gose down. Not much to chlose from for the brakefast not much for vegetarians.

Starting with the positive The reception staff were all friendly & extremely helpful The room was fine apart from the shower only having cold water we were unable to have a hot shower the whole time. I was surprised there was no housekeeping done during our stay the bins were not emptied or beds made & tea tray replenished leaving us without supplies The site advertised breakfast included & did not specify that this was only a continental breakfast. The first morning we went down and were greeted by no staff & most of the tables littered with used crockery & leftovers There were no glasses for juice(which was extremely weak & watery) & cereal The facilities to make toast some rather stale mini muffins & tea making equipment. When the staff member turned up he we were not on the cooked breakfast list only continental which was a pretty poor and extremely basic. At one time another resident asked for a knife & was told "in the top drawer" I spoke to receptionist who sorted breakfast for the next day when we arrived the tables were littered & there were no glasses or mugs. When the staff finally appeared he got some with a more pleasant attitude than the one the day before the cooked breakfast was mediocre the egg seemed like it had been reheated the hash brown overcooked the beans & tinned tomato were barely warm. The car park was also not in use which meant moving the car morning & evening having chosen your hotel so we could walk everywhere we intended to park once

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. The person who welcomed me on Wednesday was amazing, as were several other staff members I interacted with during my stay. Unfortunately, my experience on Sunday night was very different. The staff I dealt with that evening — including one man and a woman — were extremely rude. The looks and attitude I received made me feel like I wasn’t being treated as a human being, as if I was being looked down on. This contrast in service was disappointing given how welcoming the earlier staff had been.

Good location for Rochester and Chatham, budget hotel that does what you need.

Great location for both Chatham and Rochester. Good for train service to other parts of Kent. As we saw in other reviews, the building itself could do with a little tlc but overall was a very pleasant stay. Connor, one of the staff there was very helpful. Definitely value for money 😊👍

Lovely view from room of the river medway. Perfect location for exploring both Chatham and Rochester

Receptionist was wonderful really helpful and friendly. Overall room was ok spacious with a nice view, shame there was nonair conditioning. The evening menu was ok, had the gammon which was very good. However breakfast really let this place down the morning staff were all over the place, people sat waiting, Inhad to go into the kitchen tinget anyones attention tonorder breakfast. When it turned up I wish I hadn't the hash browns and black pudding where deep fried to within an inch of their life. Tasted awful i barely ate anything.

Cheap & cheerful. Probably could do with a spruce up in a few places. Can’t complain for the cost. Breakfast fresh & tasty.

Rooms were lovely and cosy and a decent size, good bathrooms too. Very friendly and bar open until midnight! Decent breakfast, although cooked breakfast relatively small (when you specify mushrooms, you don't expect to get just one!).
