Rox Hotel Aberdeen by Compass Hospitality

Breakfast not until 7.30 rather than 7am as on Expedia and minimal available. Bar not open. No hairdryer and staff unable to bring one. Used vapes in drawer. Staff pleasant enough and good location.

I stayed 2 nights after a 16 hour journey to get there. I was offered the opportunity to checkout and credited £25 for the inconvenience of having no hot water for both nights, due to their boiler blowing. The room was grubby with marks all over the walls and carpets, mould and grime around the shower and a strange stain on the throw for the bed. Staff were lovely but working with some exceptional circumstances this week.

The staff are superb! Nothing is too much trouble and they genuinely care that your stay meets your satisfaction. Be aware however that there are no restaurant or bar facilities and that a cooked breakfast is not available - continental only.

The staff are outstanding - especially Andreia! Please be aware that the booking apps all advertise a bar and restaurant - they are closed - you will have to seek an evening meal/drinks elsewhere. Breakfast is continental only and is basic but good - no hot food.

The bar is closed and the restaurant is closed and I was told there is illegal immigrants staying there so they should not be renting out rooms to the public, that’s why the bar and restaurant is closed it’s a joke.

Lack of convenient parking was an issue and no driveway or pull-in area to unload/load luggage. The location was a surprising plus. Having no prior knowledge of the area, we were genuinely surprised and appreciative of the historical significance of Aberdeen. Be sure to visit the Maritime Museum just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We will be back.

There was no hot water over the 2 day stay, when we complained we were told that they had been working on it for 2 weeks. They should not have taken bookings with no hot water.

The entrance was uninspiring but once inside the two security doors the interior was fine. The bedroom was spacious, reasonably equipped with a large bathroom and good shower. Unfortunately two of the light shades were badly damaged and there was a hole in the bathroom wall where the toilet roll holder used to be. Only continental breakfast (okay) no real bar or restaurant available. The outside areas would have been nice if they had been weed free and clean. The photos on line bear no resemblance to reality - this is currently a tired three star hotel in a great location.

Please ignore the online pictures of this Hotel it is nothing like how it portrays itself. The room was shabby and there was no hot water for a shower. I asked at at the repception and was informed that the boiler had been turned on and it would take 15-20mins for the boiler to heat, I hadnt time to wait as I was working and had to leave. Sorry but this Hotel is by far the worst experience I have had in a long time.

No parking. The receptionist has no advise to give where to park. On the arrival the room is not ready. The room windows are so thin that we did not sleep till 1 am as the next door pub was full of (and on the street also) shouting people and very loud music...

Curtains in the public areas hanging off and cushions from the sofas were all over the floor! The hotel smelt very damp and mouldy as did the room. The room was freezing cold with the windows wing left wide open when we arrived - probably to disguise the mouldy smell! There was no cups for the tea and coffee, no shower gel in the bottle and the shower was just a trickle! The bed smelt horrible and not clean! The tv remote didn’t work!

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room wasnt the nicest. Pillow was all stained but did get clean ones when we asked for more. Glasses in room were filthy. Shower head was broken so couldnt get a proper wash.

The room was very tired and in need of upgrading. Carpet in the room was filthy and the stairs were dirty and the carpet was lifting making it a trip hazard. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Certainly not at the standard that this hotel used to be.

The room was covered in mould, no pillowcases on yellow, stained pillows, two single beds pushed up against the wall with no headboard, bathroom walls had dirt running down them, shower screen dirty. Nothing like the picture that was shown for the type of room I booked. After complaining I was moved to a suite which was much better but not what I’d expect from a 4 star hotel. Still no pillowcases on dirty pillows, bathroom mirror dirty, no remote for tv. Reception staff was friendly and helpful.

This has to be one of the worst hotels we ever stayed. There was no water in the room, unclean bathroom, a lots of small cordidors with no lift , dirty windows and taps that are not closing properly. Well Below average !

Great stay at the Rox Hotel, room was immaculate, WiFi brilliant and staff all very friendly, looking forward to staying there again.

The toilet seat was loose!i had to buy antibac wipes to clean surfaces as some were coated in dust!Didnt want to complain as it made me anxious so never said anything!breakfast starts at 8am we went at 8.15 and no staff there and the breakfast wasnt set up!Didnt get breakfast as had places to be!the location is good and the bed was comfortable and we appreciated the air con and overall had a good nights sleep!i dont understand how the room was so dusty as if it hadnt been dusted in months ,the phoned was coated.I have pictures if required

Great location within in a few minutes walk of the train station and right next to Union Street. With that comes noise however. It recommend asking for a room facing away from the street. Had an awful nights sleep due to drunks fighting and traffic. Not the fault of the hotel however. Room was clean but tired. Wall paper is torn and the carpet is stained, but I didn’t affect my stay. The bed was comfortable and clean and the bathroom was excellent. Lovely modern and hot shower with towels and toiletries provided. The only feedback that I can give that the hotel can change is the lighting situation. Having to have the huge ceiling light on at night is too much. Perhaps look at some ambient lighting / lamps. Also, not a single plug socket anywhere near the bed. I can’t understand why? The ones behind the beside tables are special round sockets and not useable. It would be so easy to change these! I use my phone as my alarm so need to charge it overnight. I thought it a bit mean that I wasn’t allowed my room when I arrived at 2:30pm too, given that the key cards for arriving guests were already done behind the desk. I’d been travelling all day and it would have been a nice gesture. I had to wait outside for 30 mins. All in all a pleasant stay and I’d be happy to stay here again without a problem and very reasonable on price too.

Booked a suite but it was more of a family room split in half. No fridge. Pillows rubbish. Awake most of the night with what I’m assuming was plumbing problems. The noice from the pipes was horrendous.

Good for the price, beautiful building but feels run down. Bed was too soft for me and the windows do not open so very stuffy even with the AC on.

We had a double superior room booked, was a bit surprised to see two single beds made up together to illustrate this. We got moved to a better room, albeit a double bed room, but we won’t be staying there anymore

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. It is conveniently located in the town centre. The staff at the reception are all very friendly and always make an effort to assist. However, the overall condition of the hotel falls well below the standard expected of a 4-star hotel. During my 6-night stay at the Rox, I encountered several issues. On the day of my arrival, I discovered that the safe deposit box in my room was not functioning. Despite the reception's attempt to fix it, it was unsuccessful. Eventually, they provided me with another functioning safe deposit box. The following day, the hotel's internet stopped working, and it remained that way for a full 24 hours. Although the issue was eventually identified, I continued to experience internet connectivity problems in my room. They eventually provided me with the password for the staff network, which allowed me to connect. From the moment I arrived, two lights in my room had never worked. Despite multiple requests for bulb replacements, they were not able to provide the suitable light bulbs. Worse still, the heater in my room stopped working on the second last day of my stay. I reported the issue in the morning, and they suggested changing my room. However, when I entered the new room, another customer was staying inside! It turned out that there were some mistakes in the system that caused the mix-up. These consecutive incidents reminded me of the comedic situations depicted in the TV show "Fawlty Towers."

I booked a Junior Suite which was advertised as being a large room with a sofa seating area. Having stopped at this hotel 6 years ago that is what I expected. When i arrived in the room it was no bigger than a lot of average business hotel rooms and there wasn't even a chair in the room. I had to ask reception who brought up a small desk chair which wasn't the most comfortable to sit on after a day out. The toilet seat was broken and the sink plug system was broken as the plug itself was missing. Very disappointing to say that it advertised itself on Expedia as a Junior Suite. I have had more facilities in business hotels in the past. Unfortunately I will not be returning to the Rox Hotel in the future.

Room is hotter than death. Aircon unit doesn't blow cold air and there is no opening window. Clearly an ongoing issue as there is a fan in the room. The room was clearly built and setup to a high standard but not maintained as the bathroom walls are chipped and gouged.

The hotel is situated well for shopping, there is pubs either side of the entrance but no noise or disturbance that we encountered. Its handy for an easy walk to train or bus stations. The staff were really nice and helpful, apologetic when our room was not ready on our arrival. The room itself was clean and spacious, there was a safe but this was locked. Plenty storage space. The bed was comfortable but OMG the pillows were so useless, far too soft looked like the stuffing had been taken out. The only other gripe was the lack of any view and that the room was dark, we were only staying overnight but had i stayed longer i would have asked for another room.

Good is the best word for it. It’s not epic, but it’s not poor. It was clean, tidy, modern enough and the staff were efficient. The price could have been a bit cheaper for what it is, but the location is so central it helps justify the cost.

We booked 2 rooms, on arrival discovered there was one room on first floor & another on 4th floor. We did raise our disappointment at this with reception, but the response we got was " they are both the same kind of rooms" & couldnt move us closer. Trying to find our room wasn't the easiest, not well signposted & corridors everywhere. Not much help/direction from reception, other than "the lift is round there". Eventually we found our room (406), the electric blinds on inlaying roof did not work!! Not much power in the shower either. Continental breakfast,had usual choices,coffee machine was broken, so had a thermos pot with luke warm water or coffee in. Not another soul in the place. Very disappointed, wouldnt stay again

Hotel in great location, staff very friendly and helpful. Stayed in a standard double room which was huge! Room however was showing signs of quite a bit of wear and tear. Cleaning could be improved a bit, cobweb hanging from ceiling light, bits on the carpet that hadn’t been hoovered, false eyelashes left in bathroom bin from previous customer. Had a cooked veggie breakfast which was cooked to order and ok, but took a very long time to arrive.

So a return to the Rox after a few years away. The hotel is still a pleasant place to stay, the room a good size and clean. However for a working visit a 7:30 breakfast service needs to be fully set up at 7:30, for folk to get to work for 8:00 or 8:30, and it was a bit behind the curve today. This is a timing challenge, the eggs benedict were lovely.
