We had a lovely stay in one of the hotels apartments that was linked but you have to cross a courtyard. We expected it to have a higher standard than it did we did recommend to the hotel that they put a Nespresso Machine in. The price difference between the rooms we felt did not meet value for money as the bedroom was very tight and the lounge quite small. If you don’t like noise in a hotel if there’s a chance that an event might be on then this room would maybe work better for you then. All in all everything was ok and we did have a nice stay.

Har bott på The Trout flera gånger tidigare och har alltid varit väldigt nöjd. Rykten vi hörde på byn sa att det blivit ny ägare och att det inte var lika bra längre. När vi kom dit så höll man på med renovering och vi blev initialt placerade i ett rum som inte alls motsvarade våra förväntningar. Personalen var som alltid tidigare helt fantastisk och de löste ett annat rum till oss. Även om det finns många bra matställen i Cockermouth så tycker jag att The Trout har riktigt bra mat, så vi åt de flesta middagarna på hotellet.

I've stayed at the Trout a number of times, it is a pretty, well maintained hotel with lots of character and ideally placed to explore Cockermouth, the Western Lakes and the national park. The food is good and the staff are professional and very friendly.

Whilst the hotel was clean and comfortable after an efficient and early check in sadly things went down hill. We had a very good sandwich in the bar with drinks however the service was distinctly average and we waited several minutes for service at which time the bar was unattended. After attending a function during the day we returned tobthe bar area for a couple of drinks. My wife was directed to another area to order non alcoholic cocktail then sent back to order a pint of bitter as they did not serve that there. Staff were conducting conversations across the bar and dining area in loud voices which came across as unnecessary and unprofessional which ruined the relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast the following morning was ok but we were not asked if we wanted tea or coffee or told that eggs were available with our cooked breakfast on request. We also had to ask for sauces and had we not started eating our food it would have been cold by the time it arrived. It seemed that both the dining area and bars were working on minimal staffing levels and therefore didn't run effectively. Overall it is a lovely hotel in pleasant surroundings but the service is somewhat lacking

Whilst the hotel was clean and comfortable after an efficient and early check in sadly things went down hill. We had a very good sandwich in the bar with drinks however the service was distinctly average and we waited several minutes for service at which time the bar was unattended. After attending a function during the day we returned tobthe bar area for a couple of drinks. My wife was directed to another area to order non alcoholic cocktail then sent back to order a pint of bitter as they did not serve that there. Staff were conducting conversations across the bar and dining area in loud voices which came across as unnecessary and unprofessional which ruined the relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast the following morning was ok but we were not asked if we wanted tea or coffee or told that eggs were available with our cooked breakfast on request. We also had to ask for sauces and had we not started eating our food it would have been cold by the time it arrived. Room was very clean the view from the room was looking over the river, having a balcony was lovely if it was summer time it would have been lovely sitting outside. Room 204 highly recommend. Evening meal of chicken supreme was excellent.
