The George Inn

On the face of it, the property was generally finished to a high standard and the staff were friendly and tried to be helpful. I was initially pleasantly surprised by the appearance of the room I was given. However, room 11 is not fit for purpose. The room suffers from noise from quite loud kitchen fans, both motor noise and whining bearing noise. These fans are on all the time the kitchen is in use, beginning before 7am. When the fans eventually switched off, there was more penetrating low frequency buzzing noise that continued all night. This made it very difficult to sleep resulting in an unpleasant nights stay. Room 11 was described as being an economy room, but it was not obvious at the time of booking or in the subsequent confirmation why this was so. It could be as a result of room size, amenities, or slightly worse/tired decoration. In my view, a room that is noisy is not fit for purpose. The issue was raised with the evening staff and although they attempted to find a solution, there was no satisfactory outcome. A follow up complaint email to hotel management received an unsympathetic response. I will not be staying here again.

Great staff, polite and helpful. Good breakfast. Would benefit by having detailed instructions on directions to car park, on check in info prior to arrival.

A very nice room just a delay 0n dinner and smoke coming into the bar / hallway due to the location of smokers in the courtyard.

The Inn was easy to find, had good, clean, modern facilities and with breakfast included offered great value for money. Big comfortable bed .

Amazing stay at The George , staff very friendly from the moment we entered the door , we stayed for NYE in room 6 , huge Bathroom , lovely furnishings and nice comfy Bed , we had a meal and the sirloin steak was perfect, best I've tasted in a long time , the new year's entertainment was a great Band and all the locals and the staff where so friendly and made for a lovely atmosphere. The staff where very hard working and we had a lovely Full English Breakfast before leaving .. we'll worth a visit.

Arrived at 7.20 pm, but by 7.30 the noise and vibration of the unannounced disco started and didn't finish until 12.03 am. The noise was so loud that even our bed was vibrating. Our Room 6 was immediately above the disco! Tried to change our room, but the woman we spoke to said that she would have to speak to the manager. She disappeared , but never returned. We then waited at the bar, but the disco was so loud we couldn't hold a proper conversation, no one came to serve us. We left the pub and returned at 11.20, ( We had wanted an early night in a quiet country Inn), and were promised faithfully, that it would stop in 5 minutes. We asked again whether we could change rooms. She turned to speak to presumably the manager, or the owner, who told her, 'No'. He didn't even bother to say sorry. 40 minutes later at just gone midnight disco stopped. Noise carried on with doors opening and closing and general noise from below. The room was cold and the bed was hard, and we were still awake at 4am, with a dog in the neighbouring bedroom barking and also presumably someone leaving before it got light! According to 2 other members of staff, we should have been warned about the disco being on. We said we wouldn't be staying for the next 2 nights as we couldn't risk being kept awake for another night. Expedia were almost impossible to get through to, but eventually we were told that The George Inn would not be letting us have any money back.

No shelves or hooks in bathroom, it was either the toilet cistern top, the floor or the arms of the disability supports. Chairs in public areas uncomfortable, some broken. Food very poor at most average. The very young staff did their utmost to be friendly and helpful and were the saving grace of a premises being allowed to fall in standard from our visit there last year.

Perfekt place if you are staying as us on a visit to RHS Rosemoor. We will definitely stay again when visiting. Cannot speak more highly of the staff and hotel.

One of the few hotels I stay at that is rated excellent. Once there it's very easy to see why. The staff are friend and helpful, food is great as is the atmosphere and the rooms are extremely clean and very comfortable. An easy 5 stars

Quiet, spaceous room which was very clean. The pub served delicious food and there is a fabulous little cafe next door. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back when visiting family again. Exceptional value for money with a good breakfast included. Only slight niggle is that the pillows were thin and not supportive. One is not enough and two is too much. Perhaps they could invest in firmer support pillows and the score for this hidden gem would be 10/10.

Great old fashioned Inn with clean, well appointed rooms recently redecorated. Beautiful accommodation area with oak staircase. A real gem.

We were in room nine and they was a really annoying noise in the plumbing system that went off every 90 seconds throughout the whole stay.

Lovely clean room, friendly staff, and great powerful shower! Our only complaint was the room was so hot and we couldn't turn the thermostat down! Also breakfast not served until 8.30am on a Sunday and we had to check out then so we missed it.

Although is ground level, there was no disturbance. The room is big and comfy

The staff seemed disinterested, the cistern filled up every few minutes, all night as the toilet was running constantly and no good for someone with an early start as the breakfast was not served until 8.30am.

This hotel is an absolute gem. Superb service from the staff really clean newly refurbished rooms lovely old town. Food was superb with the chef going all out to service. My gluten-free needs. Definitely stop there again a must for anyone

Room was very good but food was poor. Most of the staff seemed to be under 20 and called customers ‘mate’ . Definitely seemed to lack some experienced personel. I stayed here before and it was really good and has definitely gone downhill.

Beautiful pub. Lovely room. Nice and quiet. The lady who cooked our breakfast and served us was so friendly (Julie I think) what a lovely friendly lady. Would stay again.

Great spot to stop in. Very nice rooms, good food and nice quiet little town, not far from Bude for surf. If your heading north or south, great spot for a stop over

Convenient for visiting family quite location good nights sleep and nice evening meal.

The hotel is great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were beautifully appointed. The location is ideal for exploring that area of Devon, not far from the coast, Dartmoor and some fantastic market towns.

Wonderful, spacious room with 2 single beds. Staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast was included, and was delicious! Had dinner there - fish and chips - it was a huge serving and very good! Wonderful, quiet area, friendly locals. Highly recommend this historic inn!

Great value local pub in a village lication but still easy drive to oakhampton

We didn't know about the festival when we booked, so we didn't get much sleep, but we'd stay again as it's v nice and the staff are lovely.

All good - Hotels.com need to relist the economy rooms without breakfast. We bought our breakfast which was very good. Staff friendly and willing to asdist when beeded. Lovely pub and friendly village.

Breakfast started too late. Presumably there are quite a few guests who need to be on the road by 8.30. So I got no breakfast as I needed to be away by 7.30.
