Beautiful historic hotel. Did not expect hot cooked breakfast each morning & social hour every afternoon. Delicious! Comfortable accommodations & for being so old, very quiet. Did not hear the people above us. Short walk to the beach. Beautiful grounds & nice pool. Bikes, beach chairs & towels provided.

We loved the old school vibe of this place. The staff was very friendly and breakfast was delicious. Enjoyed the wine social while taking in some sun on the grounds of the Inn. The beach chairs and bikes are a nice benefit. Quick walk to the beach

Nice breakfast and 3:30 happy hour (wine social). Has its own beach access. Very capable staff. Beautiful plantings. Lots of character and land. We saw bunnies on the lawn. Would recommend.

Loved my stay at First Colony Inn! The property is beautiful and it has a great path to the beach which is wonderful. Breakfast is very nice and so is the afternoon wine and snacks selection. This place is highly recommended if you’re planning a trip to The Outer Banks.

As always come here every year, awesome visit. Beautiful surroundings- very serene. Close to restaurants, attractions- private walkway to beach. Beautiful artwork through out the grounds. Service is excellent- everyone is very friendly and accommodating.

This hotel is great value of the money. It's not luxurious, but it has a comfortable bed, a friendly happy hour where you can meet other guests, and an excellent breakfast included. The hotel is set back from the main road just enough so that the traffic noise isn't really noticeable (with the windows closed), and it has an awesome backyard and deck for chilling out after a busy day at the beach. We didn't get to try the pool because it wasn't open yet for the season. It's only a very short walk to the beach too.

This would be a 5 star if they just cleaned it up a little bit, and used an indoor pesticide. We were welcomed by what I believed to be a brown recluse spider, and I had a wonderful response from the manager who was able to put us in another room. The bathrooms were especially in need of cleaning. The shower curtain had black mold on it and the box of soap in shower was wet? Sink could really use some cleaning as there was crap that could simply be scrubbed off. The first room head of bed also leaned downward, and the coffee mugs were filthy. I would love this place if it were just cleaned properly and for goodness sakes replace the shower curtain. Ew…

Spent one night here for a quick getaway. Would absolutely stay there again. Everything was clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly. Beautiful grounds and all very relaxing. Breakfast was excellent. There is a dedicated path to the beach. Beds were comfortable. My only very minor complaint would be there is no extra blanket in the room and we were a little chilled from walking on the beach in the evening.

Weird when staff can’t find beach towels for a “supposed” beach front property. Room was filthy, shower barely big enough to turn around in. Best to tear it all down and start over as The Second Colony Inn.

We enjoyed our stay. Good location, attractive property, nicer than staying at a chain. It's a bit faded and less attractive than the website shows -- closer to a busy road, some mold in the shower, a slow bathroom sink drain. The bed was large and comfortable. Our assigned breakfast time (we were not expecting this) was too late for our plans, so we skipped it, though other reviewers say it's very good. The landscaping is lovely! We'd probably stay somewhere else next time.

The First Colony Inn is a lovely old property in a great location for visiting the Outer Banks. Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Buffet breakfast choices were very good and the hot option varied each day. There's a wonderful beach opposite the inn and a good selection of restaurants and shops nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

Charmigt och mysigt, med en fin liten pool och gångavstånd till stranden. Man kunde låna stolar till stranden och cyklar. Avslappnat och trevligt. Stora rum och bekväma sängar, men inte helt rent. Jag tappade ett örhänge och kikade under en byrå och där hittade jag många saker men inget örhänge.

Alma the lady at the lobby is awesome very attentive, pleasant and amazing hard worker. Breakfast was delicious. The room was good just a suggestion they need to add blackout curtains for more privacy, and the streaming on the tv is very slow to other than that the place is in a very good location.

This property is very quaint and historic. This is definitely not your modern, run of the mill hotel but it is very cool. You feel like you are walking back in time to the 1930s and 40s. The breakfast was fabulous. Bed was comfortable and room was spacious. Access to the beach was convenient.

Beautiful property and we really enjoyed the breakfasts! The room was very clean. The only problem we had was that the tv wasn't connecting so we only got a couple of channels. One of the guys at the property came to the room to look at it, but I guess it wasn't something that could be fixed in a couple of days. We never heard or asked again about it.

Good stay, great location, wonderful staff. As advertised and solid value. 4/5 Stars. For 5 stars, desperately needed better pillows - they were horrible. Also, assigning us a 30-minute window for breakfast, 8-830a, was less than ideal, particularly for a vacation. Finally, the doors allowed in quite a bit of noise, so perhaps a bit more sound proofing. That said, for being an older building, it was good. It has a great location, wonderful staff, and was overall a solid value.

Check in at 4. Front desk closes at 5. We arrived at 5:30. No keys left for us. Tried to call on phone by front door at hotel but it did not work. Walked back to my car to call on my cell phone. Nice people came back when we called to give us keys. No remote for TV. Texted managers and they returned with a remote.

Room 21 was unimpressive. Upon entering, we saw that all table lamp shades were crooked and the room temperature was very cold. Not a good first impression. After settling in, found that the wind rattled the door (remedied with a washcloth placed in door jamb) and the bed was really uncomfortable and noisy. There were other notables (iron, ironing board, and shower curtain liner should be replaced and the refrigerator needs to be secured). The FCI is a jewel that, given attention to the details, would absolutely sparkle.

I am so glad i found the FCI for our first trip to the Outer Banks. We really enjoyed our six night stay there during the last week of October. Our room was perfect for us and the yummy hot breakfast every morning was amazing. We chose a historic inn rather than a hotel or airbnb because we like the more personal touch an Inn provides. Lisa, the innkeeper, was very helpful and friendly. Beth, the Manager and breakfast chef was super hospitable. With the beach just a short walk away...we could not have asked for a better value stay on the OBX. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip.

Very conveniently located, right off the main road near restaurants and attractions. The bed was very comfortable, I don't know if it was the fresh, beach air but I slept like a baby. Breakfast was eggs, biscuits and gravy, and they had a nice spread of fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee, and many different pastries and breads. Excellent service.

Tv didn’t work . I contacted after hours twice, nobody called back. So, we didn’t have Tv all night in a cool chilly night..:(

Check in at 4. Front desk closes at 5. We arrived at 5:30. No keys left for us. Tried to call on phone by front door at hotel but it did not work. Walked back to my car to call on my cell phone. Nice people came back when we called to give us keys. No remote for TV. Texted managers and they returned with a remote.

Great location loved how I could just walk right to the beach. Loved that they had beach chairs to take with as well. The property was beautiful and loved the free breakfast.

This property is very quaint and historic. This is definitely not your modern, run of the mill hotel but it is very cool. You feel like you are walking back in time to the 1930s and 40s. The breakfast was fabulous. Bed was comfortable and room was spacious. Access to the beach was convenient.

We enjoyed our stay. Good location, attractive property, nicer than staying at a chain. It's a bit faded and less attractive than the website shows -- closer to a busy road, some mold in the shower, a slow bathroom sink drain. The bed was large and comfortable. Our assigned breakfast time (we were not expecting this) was too late for our plans, so we skipped it, though other reviewers say it's very good. The landscaping is lovely! We'd probably stay somewhere else next time.

As always come here every year, awesome visit. Beautiful surroundings- very serene. Close to restaurants, attractions- private walkway to beach. Beautiful artwork through out the grounds. Service is excellent- everyone is very friendly and accommodating.

The First Colony Inn is a lovely old property in a great location for visiting the Outer Banks. Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. Buffet breakfast choices were very good and the hot option varied each day. There's a wonderful beach opposite the inn and a good selection of restaurants and shops nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

Vintage charm of historic inn. Rooms are cozy and comfortable, with antique furnishings as individual as each room. Home cooked delicious hot breakfast (including fresh baked pastries, mixed fruit and berries) and a late afternoon wine and cheese hospitality hour.

I am so glad i found the FCI for our first trip to the Outer Banks. We really enjoyed our six night stay there during the last week of October. Our room was perfect for us and the yummy hot breakfast every morning was amazing. We chose a historic inn rather than a hotel or airbnb because we like the more personal touch an Inn provides. Lisa, the innkeeper, was very helpful and friendly. Beth, the Manager and breakfast chef was super hospitable. With the beach just a short walk away...we could not have asked for a better value stay on the OBX. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip.

The breakfasts and happy hour were great. Staff was super friendly and helpful. We loved the peace and quiet of the property. B&B is a little dated but one would expect that from a historic property.

Loved my stay at First Colony Inn! The property is beautiful and it has a great path to the beach which is wonderful. Breakfast is very nice and so is the afternoon wine and snacks selection. This place is highly recommended if you’re planning a trip to The Outer Banks.

Wonderful experience!! An amazing part of history with clean and comfortable rooms!! The afternoon charcuterie board and wine were a nice bonus! Breakfast was homemade every morning and was very satisfying! Staff really treated us well and were also vey willing to talk about the history of the property! We will alway have fond memories of this stay and highly recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in this cozy and comfortable inn!!

Returned 40 years later from our 1st stay, when it was in its original ocean front location, to this 2025 stay. Classic, historic, dedicated beach access, lovely grounds, lush landscaping and gardens, and a great vibe. Rocking chairs and porch swings harken back to the good ‘ol days. Wonderful breakfasts by Chef Georgia, with eclectic culinary creations. Just love this ‘old woodie’ hotel in the original classic OBX architectural style.

Beautiful historic hotel with wrap around porches and great location near the beach (short walk across the beach road and over the dunes). The pool was excellent and clean with beautiful flowing hedges giving it a private garden feel. Took off one star for some rust in the bathroom and complicated check in. It's more like Airbnb check in, you go right to the room with a keypad lock. Took us a while to find our room and get the door code. Other than that we really enjoyed the property and location.

First Colony Inn was the perfect spot for our long weekend. The location is perfect for access to the beach, restaurants, and the town of Manteo. Our room was suitable for our stay - no fancy frills, but clean and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the porches in the evenings!

I appreciated the personal phone call directly from the staff once I booked online. It was definitely a unique place, especially if you enjoy history. Breakfast was not served on site. A voucher was given to use at a local restaurant, which was a very nice surprise.

The place was cosy, the staff was kind and friendly. The beach acces was directly on the property, a 2-3 mins walk accross the road and the beach was spacious. We choose The First Colony Inn in part for its great breakfast reviews and were very sad that they had no more cook, so no breakfast. Thankfully, they offered a complementary breakfast at 2 restaurants nearby.
