We stayed one of the suites. This stay is literally at the top of the hill and you get 360 views of Hilo. unobstructed views of the ocean. Clean and full of amenities. The projector screen was awesome!

The king suite is an end unit with a wonderful balcony. The studio apartment has a large area with the king bed, sitting area and large picture window with a beautiful view. Bathroom is spacious and includes a separate area with a lit vanity with a bench. At check-in, the room was clean and very well prepared. Parking is tight, but there is a system in place that makes it work. The only issues we had were that housekeeping didn’t replenish the coffee and tea supplies (even after 3 requests were made). Also, we received a morning message that the room was ready, but it was not. Not sure what happened there in terms of the communications on those two issues. Minor issues, but they knocked my overall rating from a 5 star to a 4 star. Overall, I highly recommend the king suite (other rooms may not be as spacious and do not appear to include a balcony, which is important to us). Very cool converted “old” house with a nice common area that includes comfortable seating, TV and pool table. This area would provide a nice meeting place if you are booking with multiple people/multiple rooms. Great job!!

Place was more than we ever thought. Super clean, super cool. No lobby, self checkin. Pool table in great room. Just a really cool exercise experience. My wife was apprehensive as she likes traditional hotel, but even she was over the top

The property had great views and good birds. Parking was a bit tricky but there are designated spots for the guests. Had to drive to get to restaurants and stores. The frogs and roosters were noisy but we got used to them. I gave an average rating for staff and service because we never saw the staff which was good but we did hear some noise from mowing and weeding and tree chopping.

The property is very pleasant, including not only the home, but the surroundings. The large backyard is very peaceful, and the three chickens are a nice addition. The views from the property (and from our room #1) are spectacular. Parking requires a little maneuvering, but it wasn\'t a problem. Also, stone stairway to the house, and stairs inside the house to the rooms upstairs, could be difficult for anyone with limited mobility. I highly recommend this facility if you want a quiet room and an "old Hawaii" experience.

Great place to stay in Hilo, cozy and quiet and yet still right off a main road down to Kamehameha avenue. Would highly recommend to anyone, though do note that parking is extremely tight.

We stayed for one night in the Sky Room. The room has lovely views of the city, ocean, and inbound flights landing at the Hilo airport off in the distance. We chose this place due to price point, proximity to downtown and the in-room jet bathtub. Favorite things: location, pretty front yard, jet bathtub, and comfortable bed if you like a softer mattress top. Least favorite things: the door has a rather large 3 inch gap at the bottom; the shower is small with low water pressure; the walls are made of plywood; missing some items in the kitchenette to make the stay more comfortable such as dish towels, sponge, soap; pillows were a bit musty; no washcloths provided in the bathroom. One oddity: you must remove your shoes upon entry to the home and put on foam rubber slippers, which is okay except there is no clear way to indicate if/when the slippers were sanitized and the sizes provided are 2 sizes, both too small for someone with feet size 10 or above. Overall, this accommodation was fine and clean for one night but not comfortable for us for a longer stay. Be aware that they have a large dog who barks a lot. We managed even without using the earplugs the hosts provided. Apparently they have a bit of a conflict with the neighboring property about driveway space that requires some fiddly logistics about parking.

Amazing view from the king suite! Charming character and appreciated keurig with coffee pods and creamer, silverware and paper plates, etc. Walls thin and had some disturbance from one neighbor. Parking is difficult and steep.

A unique property with a view over the bay. I believe there are only 4 rooms, all on the second floor with good views. Checkin and checkout are self-service. You will receive access codes via text message, and you may not see another living soul. Expect to be quiet after 9pm. Nice place, would stay again.

The check in process was ok. The living room of the house and the front yard are stunningly beautiful. However once we got to our rooms we were kind of disappointed. It seemed like maximal effort was put into the first floor of the house but a bare minimal effort was put into the room. The bathroom walls were unfinished and the water pressure of the shower very low, the faucet was loose and barely hanging. The bed was too soft and uncomfortable that my spouse and I had a hard time sleeping. I have to give the hosts a point for providing earplugs though because the wild life is very loud in the morning when you're still trying to sleep. If only the interior of the room matched the living room. A pity! Location is great though.

Comfortable, clean and convenient. It was a nice hilltop location with a great view. The economy room was cute and cozy. The living areas were enjoyable places to spend time. The walls were thin, but guests were respectful of the quiet hours.

We absolutely loved the location and the beautiful common areas at Hilltop Legacy — peaceful surroundings and stunning views! The host was very friendly and even took time to chat with us and share some great local recommendations. The bathroom didn’t have a vent, so it could get a bit musty after use, and we missed having a microwave and an iron. Also, if you’re a light sleeper, the hens cooing through the night might be a bit disruptive. Overall, a charming place with a lot of character and hospitality!

These comments need to be taken in context of value. I had a 2-night business stay and just needed a place to sleep and shower. It was very, very affordable. Be sure to ask for Room 1, I think it had the best view and it also had a private balcony. It was a 3-room suite. The grounds were wonderful, lush and well-cared for. The house is obviously an old Hawaiian home, and it has been a while since there were any significant updates (like many decades). The room could have benefited from some paint, the fixtures in the bathroom were a bit dilapidated. The bed was old, a bit bouncy though I slept well. More outlets near the bed would have been helpful (I had to plug my sleeping device in to a 1940s-era plug in the closet). The views overlooking Hilo were wonderful—the harbor, airport and beyond. All contact with the owners was virtual. I didn't opt for daily room service, and so didn't see staff the whole time I was there. Would I stay again? Probably not, but it wasn't an unpleasant experience.

We loved our 7-night stay at Hilltop vacation rental! We had the economy room with a view of the ocean and it was very cool to wake up to the sun rising. The room was clean, there was a shower and bathroom and all of the necessary essentials for our stay—coffee maker, small fridge, etc…The parking was a bit tight, but our rental Jeep fit into the parking spots! It was a quiet and peaceful stay. Would definitely recommend!

We absolutely loved sitting on our balcony throughout our stay. It was definitely the highlight of this room, with stunning views and peaceful breezes (except the crowing roosters). The location of this property gave us easy access to everything we wanted to do in the Hilo area, which was a big plus. The price was more than reasonable and the hosts were helpful. The only downside was substandard pillows and a hard bed (which someone else might not mind, but I found uncomfortable). All in all, I would recommend this location.

Minor issues, but they knocked my overall rating from a 5 star to a 4 star. Overall, I highly recommend the king suite (other rooms may not be as spacious and do not appear to include a balcony, which is important to us). Very cool converted “old” house with a nice common area that includes comfortable seating, TV and pool table. This area would provide a nice meeting place if you are booking with multiple people/multiple rooms. Great job!!

We loved loved this property. It was clean, loved the fact they offered house slippers as well as outside slippers. We spent more time out on our full beautiful balcony more than in room. Beautiful landscaping. You can tell they take pride in the rental home. It’s was quiet and laid back for my husband and I. Maid service was awesome. We stayed on that side of island cuz it was my local, and just drove to tourist areas when we wanted to do stuff. Zoo was free and gorgeous, rainbow falls was free and beautiful. Checked out many beaches. Overall everything was wonderful. Even tried to eat mostly authentic local foods. Island breeze luau was a rip off don’t recommend. But it’s a must stay. We stayed in room 3, the Panoramic suite. Despite what the photos showed, there is no dresser in the room. In fact, there was no closet, dresser, wardrobe, clothing rack or clothing hooks. For the 4 days and 3 nights we stayed, we were forced to live out of our suitcases and deal with wrinkled clothes. I got so desperate I began hanging outfits from curtain rods. The bed was large and comfortable but oddly enough there is only one nightstand. I slept on the side without a nightstand and therefore had to put my phone and beverages on the floor as there was nowhere else near the bed to put it. The air conditioner in the room photos showed it inside of the bedroom but it’s since been moved to the opposite end of the suite in the kitchenette. The kitchenette is surrounded by single pane glass that heavily leaks the air. This meant the kitchenette was cooler but there was zero air circulation or fan inside the actual bedroom. This made it very uncomfortable and muggy to sleep. The walls and floors are very thin and we could hear people talking, dogs barking, doors shutting…etc. it wasn’t terrible but also not ideal. There is a rather large 2-3” gap under the door to the room. This made us very uncomfortable as literally anyone could look underneath or film with their cellphone. We ended up rolling a towel and placing it in front for privacy. The shower had decent water pressure but it only came in two temperatures. Melt your skin hot, and scalding hot.

We stayed for one night in the Sky Room. The room has lovely views of the city, ocean, and inbound flights landing at the Hilo airport off in the distance. We chose this place due to price point, proximity to downtown and the in-room jet bathtub. Favorite things: location, pretty front yard, jet bathtub, and comfortable bed if you like a softer mattress top. Least favorite things: the door has a rather large 3 inch gap at the bottom; the shower is small with low water pressure; the walls are made of plywood; missing some items in the kitchenette to make the stay more comfortable such as dish towels, sponge, soap; pillows were a bit musty; no washcloths provided in the bathroom. One oddity: you must remove your shoes upon entry to the home and put on foam rubber slippers, which is okay except there is no clear way to indicate if/when the slippers were sanitized and the sizes provided are 2 sizes, both too small for someone with feet size 10 or above. Overall, this accommodation was fine and clean for one night but not comfortable for us for a longer stay. Be aware that they have a large dog who barks a lot. We managed even without using the earplugs the hosts provided. Apparently they have a bit of a conflict with the neighboring property about driveway space that requires some fiddly logistics about parking.

Amazing view from the king suite! Charming character and appreciated keurig with coffee pods and creamer, silverware and paper plates, etc. Walls thin and had some disturbance from one neighbor. Parking is difficult and steep.

These comments need to be taken in context of value. I had a 2-night business stay and just needed a place to sleep and shower. It was very, very affordable. Be sure to ask for Room 1, I think it had the best view and it also had a private balcony. It was a 3-room suite. The grounds were wonderful, lush and well-cared for. The house is obviously an old Hawaiian home, and it has been a while since there were any significant updates (like many decades). The room could have benefited from some paint, the fixtures in the bathroom were a bit dilapidated. The bed was old, a bit bouncy though I slept well. More outlets near the bed would have been helpful (I had to plug my sleeping device in to a 1940s-era plug in the closet). The views overlooking Hilo were wonderful—the harbor, airport and beyond. All contact with the owners was virtual. I didn't opt for daily room service, and so didn't see staff the whole time I was there. Would I stay again? Probably not, but it wasn't an unpleasant experience.

Amazing location with fantastic hosts, but not the most comfortable lodging. The hosts did a fantastic job of making us feel at home and were incredibly responsive at addressing an issue we had with the AC unit. We also the location: the view is fantastic and the house has a beautiful indoor/outdoor common area - complete with a few adorable and friendly outdoor cats. Unfortunately, my wife and I never really managed to get comfortable in the room because of the heat, humidity, noise of the AC unit, and awkward layout. The hosts replaced the AC unit partway through our stay, which helped a bit, but we still never got a full night of sleep. We enjoyed our time in Hilo and the friendless of the hosts (and their cats!), but we wish the room was a bit more comfortable.

A very sweet, well-kept stately old property that exudes then charm of old Hilo. Check in was easy- note there are some fairly steep stairs leading up to the front door, as well as stairs within the house. I was very comfortable in my efficiency room, and especially appreciated the water, condensation, and diamond bakery cream crackers which were a much needed snack during my Merrie Monarch adventures! A great location and a comfortable place to stay for any Hilo vacation.

The king suite is an end unit with a wonderful balcony. The studio apartment has a large area with the king bed, sitting area and large picture window with a beautiful view. Bathroom is spacious and includes a separate area with a lit vanity with a bench. At check-in, the room was clean and very well prepared. Parking is tight, but there is a system in place that makes it work. The only issues we had were that housekeeping didn’t replenish the coffee and tea supplies (even after 3 requests were made). Also, we received a morning message that the room was ready, but it was not. Not sure what happened there in terms of the communications on those two issues. The property and the view were extraordinary. The room is tiny, but not really designed for guests too relaxing because there is a large community living room downstairs. I did ask some questions through email, but did not get a response from the owners know that we ever see them. I take that as a negative.

We had an amazing stay at the Hilltop rental! The host was amazing and all communications were timely and extremely clear. The unit was quiet, very clean, and well-equipped... and the host provided whatever else we needed. The view overlooking Hilo and Hilo Bay was breathtaking and it's just a short walk to town. We enjoyed the Hilo Farmer's Market which sells amazing local fruit, produce, and foods 7 days a week... and on Wednesdays & Saturdays is extended to include local artists and other vendors. I'm recommending the Hilltop Vacation Rental to all my relatives and friends... also to my friends in Hilo so they can recommend it to their visitors. Mahalo for a memorable and relaxing stay!

We absolutely loved the location and the beautiful common areas at Hilltop Legacy — peaceful surroundings and stunning views! The host was very friendly and even took time to chat with us and share some great local recommendations. The bathroom didn’t have a vent, so it could get a bit musty after use, and we missed having a microwave and an iron. Also, if you’re a light sleeper, the hens cooing through the night might be a bit disruptive. Overall, a charming place with a lot of character and hospitality!

Absolutely perfect. My husband and I reserved the room with the king-sized bed for a week and it exceeded all of our expectations. The property is gorgeous, the ocean view is breathtaking, and its walking distance to downtown Hilo. The parking space is tight but the house and room with a private balcony made up for it. We had a small fridge wich was great and the wifi was strong. Jade (the owner) was flexible with our reservation and just so great to work with.

Great views of the ocean and surrounding greenery. The property is well maintained and the communal area with pool table and games Is a great touch. Jade and the team went to every effort to make sure our stay was amazing. A 5 minute drive Into Hilo town but beware if you choose to walk it, the 20 minute walk back is all uphill.

Thoughtful amenities: mini-refrigerator stocked with bottled water. Real glasses, mugs and spoon. Privacy. My second time to use this same room in less than 10 years. Suggested improvements: In this particular room, would've liked to know it takes considerable time for the hot water to come on in the shower. A moveable shower head would be nice so the water doesn't leak out onto the floor when the shower door is opened, to check the water intermittently, until it is fully heated.

I liked the atmosphere of the place. Very close to the Boys and Girls( my grandson played baseball there). The only thing I didn’t like was parking reverse in. Other than that perfect! Even the roosters and koki frogs didn’t bother me!

Staff was non-responsive and didn't give me the address or self check in instructions, I was stranded in Hilo until i called Expedia and they finally told me where to go and how to get in. Bed and chair were both ancient, sinking over a foot when sat/lied on. Towels smelled like mildew and caused a reaction on my skin. "Rainfall" shower head broken and dripped only cold water on me while showering with normal shower head. Ran out of hot water in the shower almost immediately. Terrifying dog barked and ran at me every time I entered the property. Windows propped open and difficult to close, Roosters woke me up at 5:30am every day.
Staff was non-responsive and didn't give me the address or self check in instructions, I was stranded in Hilo until i called Expedia and they finally told me where to go and how to get in.
