This hotel is fantastic! The rooms are spacious with a zen Japanese design. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. There’s free coffee, cappuccino, beer and wine in the lobby 24x7. We really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it!

The place to go if you want the feel of Ryokan but want the modern amenities. Each room is gorgeous, and so well thought down to the tiniest detail. Would put it at the level of the Four Seasons or Park Hyatt. The wooden gated entry to every room, with its own rock garden makes it feel like you are coming home. The welcome locally made sweets and tea/cold towels at check in are some of the touches that make the place special. The only downside is the lack of a proper gym.

The staff are extremely polite and helpful. We were not happy with our room at first and they upgraded us to a bigger room. Rooms layouts are great. They offered free drinks, coffee, and tea in the lobby every day. We tried the breakfast buffet once, but it was not that great for the price. The location is within a 10-minute walk of Kyoto station and another 20-minute walk from the core which is great. Make sure you take advantage of the Panasonic electric bike the hotel offers for free. It is fun to ride with them.

This is my favorite hotel in the world! It's such a beautiful, peaceful oasis in the middle of Kyoto, and an easy walk to Kyoto Station and Nishiki Market. It's right down the block from a subway station as well. The rooms are like little Japanese apartments and have such beautiful decorative touches. The spa is great, as is the high end teppanyaki restaurant.

Je reviendrai l’hôtel est incroyable au delà de la beauté du lieu le personnel est chaleureux et accueillant et très très serviable la qualité du lit est incroyable mon meilleur sommeil depuis mon arrivée au Japon. Un hôtel qui mérite qu’on y reste plus d’une nuit car trop court des ateliers gratuits de type calligraphie en semaine un buffet petit déjeuner varié la baignoire traditionnelle était incroyable vraiment je n’ai pas les mots.

Kanra Hotel is just exceptional.Hotel room is beautiful and big for Japanese standards.The Spa was great. The staff was amazing.Ten minutes walk from Kyoto station. Next to one of the most important Temple in Kyoto. I really recommend this hotel.

We really enjoyed stay at this hotel. The reception ladies are very friendly and we had some welcome tea and snack which are super delicious. Room is clean, warm and functional. They have everything you need and the bath room is awesome. Location good, close to the train station, subway/bus stations and convenience store.

Great location, very nice hotel rooms. Breakfast was good, although a bit more options and variation on daily basis would be great! The only issue we had was with cleaning. We put the clean my room tag outside our room and it still wasn't clean. The receptionist on enquiry said the staff probably got confused with the do not disturb sign as that is simiar too and that staff has gone home. this was disappointing. Everything else was great

Great service, room was spacious in the annex building. It was fairly clean but there were a few spots, particularly the bottom corners of the wall in the shower, and the tiles between the bath tub and the wall that could really use some deep cleaning - they were clearly discoloured. Some of the spaces between the floor tiles in the washroom were also discoloured. Another thing missing compared to comparable hotels was a heated toilet seat - thought it was odd it didn't have that!

Staff were wonderful! The hotel is showing a need for some general maintenance attention …interior painting, furniture refinishing, carpeting. Please check the plumbing and tile in room 422 bathroom, a strong odor of mildew.

An awesome hotel with amazing service. The room was very Japanese style, which is exactly what we wanted, and I'm glad we had the opportunity to stay there. We had a great view of the temple next door. It was also reasonably priced. The room itself had some scuff marks on the wall. You can see where cleaning staff have attempted to remove other marks to the best of their abilities, but it needs a repaint. There was also nowhere to put your bags, aside from the centre table or floor. The bathroom looked amazing and was great to use, however the wet area smelt of mould, but there was no visible mould. I think if they removed the Cypress bathtubs this would resolve the issue. The air conditioner was overly loud. Even when it was turned off, there was an audible sound with constant airflow happening. The staff were amazing. When we checked in the attendant gave us a map and suggested places we visit. This made our Kyoto trip as we didn't have much of a plan when we arrived. He also suggested a Ramen spot across the road that was awesome. We had a great time and stay in Kyoto, I recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again in the future.

We stayed in the annex suite. Biggest room. Loved the traditional Japanese style room. We did have two bathrooms, which I wanted. Shared shower and sleeping area. Main issue was no drawers. Only two small closets. No place for underwear pants or socks. We had to keep everything in our suitcases. Hung a few shirts and skirts. If the hotel can read this please add drawers. You have room to add them.

Beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Love the tatami mat area and window screens. Very comfy beds and pillows. There was some wear and tear with scuff marks on walls. It would have been good to have coffee machine or coffee filters packs available in rooms. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend this hotel to others.

Room was great, felt traditional but very spacious and comfortable. The bath tub in the room was great for soaking after a long day. Hotel staff was super friendly and professional. Didn’t take advantage of the spa service or breakfast but if it’s anything lile the rest of the hotel it’s great. Each floor has wooden gates around your room that really provide a serene and cozy atmosphere. Would definitely stay here again!

The room was amazing! The tub was used every night after walking 20k steps a day. The employees were always helpful and pleasant and the location was perfect. It was next to everything.

We had a wonderful stay here. Rooms were very spacious. Staff were friendly and attentive. Really enjoyed the complimentary drinks. Only drawback for us was how loud the road noise was at night. We were in the main building on the 4th floor which faced the main road so if you are sounds sensitive, i would suggest you let them know when booking. Otherwise this hotel was great.

It’s my second stay at this property, and I don’t plan on going back. The room I stayed was extremely noisy, and it has MANY scratches on the wall. Staff was okay, but not super friendly. Not the experience I got the first time, so won’t go back again.

Everything was wonderful from beginning to end. The staff were quick to respond to emails before check-in, the location was convenient and safe, the decor of the room and hotel were beautiful, the wooden tub was awesome, and the staff were extremely kind and helpful. I was only able to try one of their restaurants because of my schedule, but their traditional breakfast was delicious. On top of that, I had a great view of the temple and Kyoto Tower. I don't remember if I have ever written a hotel review before, but this hotel and their staff were exceptional. I have already recommended it to friends.

The staff were friendly but there was a communciation barrier, oftentimes it took a while to get across what we needed or answers to our questions. The hotel was clean and was stocked with amenities. The room looked nice but for what it was priced at, could have been been even better, with more programmes on tv, the sink to be within thw bathroom space. The hotel is quite close to restaurants and kyoto station. The spa servuce was lovely, thank you to the ladies that provided the service to us.

The stay in my room was magnificent. Room was large and clean. Only bad part was vibes at check out. when i checked out was at11:30 and they kept rushing me with phone calls to the room to tell me i'm late at 11:33. Just made me feel unwelcome because i was checking out and they don’t need to care about me as a guest. So i’m not sure if i’ll return or recommend it because of that.

The staff of the hotel completes the rating of excellent. It is nicely furnished with Japanese design and decor everywhere. Rooms very comfortable and breakfast is delicious. Management need to engage with customers from time to time.

Beautiful place. Spacious, clean, well maintained, good location. The only issue we had was when we checked out we asked for a cab to the train station. They said they would get us a cab but we had to stay in the lobby. We waited for 10 minutes before they said they couldn't get us a cab and left us with heavy bags to walk over a mile in the snow. We were shocked and disappointed - particularly since we stayed in their most expensive room for 4 nights. We barely made it to the station. If we were an older couple, we would not have made it. The staff made very little effort to help us. I thought the way we were treated at check-out was very unprofessional.

This is a lovely hotel, with great staff and fantastic rooms, right in the heart of Kyoto. It's a short walk from Kyoto station, with good travel links and plenty of shopping and dining options within walking distance.

Very well maintained with friendly staff. Location is a 12-15 minute walk north of Kyoto Station. If you enjoy walking Nikish Market is about a 25 minute walk and Gion around 35 minutes. The hotel is steps away from the Gojo subway station and well connected by bus. We used cabs to get to a couple of the more distant sites like the Aryshiyama Babmboo Forest. Loved the complementary drinks in the lobby from 1pm-8pm (very welcome after long days walking in the sun). Overall, would recommend this hotel.

Kanra is 5 / 5 in all respects! The location is also great, quiet and not very touristy but a lot of food and coffee options walking distance from the hotel. Incredibly easy access to the Karasuma Gojo subway station as well.

We don’t even know where to start. Our stay at Hotel Kanra was one of the highlights of our trip. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, the staff actually could not be more helpful even if they tried and the hotel is conveniently located next to the metro station as well as this beautiful huge temple. Our room itself gave us the traditional energy we wanted out of our Kyoto experience while still providing the cushy luxuries we enjoy on vacation. Could not recommend here more and will be recommending friends and family to stay here on their next visit to Kyoto!

Really excellent hotel, blending traditional and modern. The room was very large and comfortable, and the staff were so helpful with recommendations and bookings around Kyoto. The only downside was the location, which is around 25 minutes walk to the centre of Kyoto.

The hotel is conveniently located next to Kyoto station, and a quick walk over to the Higashi-Hongan ji temple and Shoshei Gardens. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodated our every need. We had dinner at the restaurant which was the best meal of our entire trip! Would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat.

Amazing property in the heart of Kyoto. Refined, modern, quiet with a supremely satisfying breakfast buffet in Kanra Kitchen each morning, adding this on to your hotel booking is a must, great value and high quality. Twin room in annex building was plenty of space for our family of 4, our boys enjoyed sleeping on the tatami mats in their own beds in the floor, enjoyed the sleek vibe of the room and wonderful shower and wooden soaking tub. Free sake, beers, wine and juice in the lobby lounge a nice touch. Convenient to bus and subway lines to explore the city. This hotel was perfect!

It would have been nice to be able to get a coffee before 12pm and/or eat at the restaurant without doing the full buffet menu. The in room dining menu was also very limited and expensive. However, the room was spacious, beautiful designed, comfy beds, amazing soaking tub, great location and the staff were so incredibly helpful.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was beautiful and well maintained. The whole hotel was very clean as well as the rooms. Breakfast buffet was amazing with choices for a Western or traditional Japanese breakfast. I would have given the hotel 5 stars except we wish they had more amenities like coffee maker in the room and more drawers and closet space for clothes.

We had the BEST time ever at this property. The staff, food, spa, rooms, everything was on spot. The breakfast buffet was unbelievable and when I asked about gluten and dairy free options the chef had every morning baked gluten free amazing buns. The spa was amazing. We stayed 3 nights and wanted to stay more, thanks again for having us.

This is the best hotel in Kyoto. The property is very beautiful and relaxing. The room is very spacious, the amenities top notch, the tub is amazing. The breakfast is one of the best I’ve ever had. Traditional Japanese breakfast with also western dishes. The customer service is the best. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and helped us with directions and recommendations and even helped us ship our luggage to our next hotel.

Second trip to Kyoto that we stayed in this hotel and is now my go to whenever I return to Kyoto. Staff is friendly and even left a hand written note. The rooms are beautiful and I can appreciate the lighting as well. Good breakfast in the morning with lots of options. Convenient to subway station. Lots to like and I will be back.

We selected this hotel to experience the Japanese ambiance during our stay in kyoto. Very comfortable beds and pillows. The green tea and face mask and lotions they provided were too good. Their welcome drink was out of the world. They provide unlimited coffee, latte, juice and wine with crackers round the clock. Staff at reception speak English. So it was very easy to communicate. Ideally located .Kyoto Station is 15 minutes walk. Along that way you find a temple, Gift store, McDonald's and Burger King. A big thank you to TAKAHASHI for her excellent customer service. Great property ! We stayed with our kids here and the 2 twin bed room was more than enough to comfortably sleep. Located conveniently near the station and major shopping thoroughfares was also very helpful. Highly recommend !

This was our second time staying at this location. We were so impressed with the hotel from the last visit so decided to come back. The venue was beautifully decorated and maintained. The staff was very helpful. The room was spacious and well thought out layout. Definitely coming back here next time we visit.
