This would have got full marks ....but for the entrance road albeit a short section of a few yards was full of potholes....if you missed one you hit another. Apart from that it is an excellent location close to shops and restaurants. The rear patio to mountain view side is an ideal spot for cockatoos , kangaroos and colourful small birds.... would recommend this motel but please fill in those potholes!

We were slightly apprehensive given reviews of “aging and worn” rooms so we were pleasantly surprised by our room. It was large, well lit, and provided with all the facilities we needed. Huge bathroom with abundance of towels. Lots of electrical outlets for gadget charging which was atypical of other motels we stayed at during our trip. Small patio overlooking a large pasture with resident sheep. Guest laundry on site with reasonable charge. Hoards of cockatoos to entertain and overwhelm you should you ill-advisedly produce any edibles. Location on the edge of town was quiet and restful but easily walkable to shops and restaurants. This was one of our favorite stopovers on a two week trip and also one of the more economical motels we used.

Place has BBQ, area around BBQ needed to be cleaned up. Bed was clean and needs an upgrade soon. Individual patio outside room. Surroundings great, in heart of town. Room sleeps 3.

The property is in a great location and the room was clean with the usual amenities. On the down side the outside gardens and rear patios are overgrown and unkept. The BBQ area and around the managers residence was also untidy with rubbish bins half full of water etc., the whole property needs some regular maintenance outside. The property manager/owner was nowhere to be found for our stay of 2 nights, a phone call on our arrival was our only contact.

Located on a quiet residential street right next to town and within walking distance of restaurants and shop. When I arrived, the neighbors were sunning themselves across the street. The neighbors are KANGAROOS! I was so enchanted to see kangaroos around the neighborhood each time I came and went. My room faced a sheep pasture framed by mountains where I relaxed and watched Super Fairy Wrens around the patio. Very pretty sunset from the patio. The young man who works there was very kind and I was able to do laundry. The room is a little dated but ultimately I think it works beautifully, the Lodge is just perfect for a peaceful mountain stay.

Excellent location. Great animal viewing on grasses by property. Close to interesting walks and conveniently situated for shops and restaurants. Fully equipped so could eat from your room. In warmer times could eat outside next to wildlife. Property has BBQ for guest use. Highly recommended!

Clean room, efficient check in and an excellent view of the mountains just outside!! Could greatly benefit from room servicing where they didn’t bother to even make up the bed or do a minimum clean up which was quite disappointing. Overall a good budget stay in Halls Gap. The views beat all other minor shortcomings.

Property is old and in need of modernisation. Heating didn’t work, power points didn’t seem to work. Cleaning was average and there were crumbs on the dining table and half an open container of milk in the fridge. Definitely a budget stay.

The person checking me and my friend in assumed we were a same sex couple. Once it was clarified that we had two separate rooms, he was suddenly much more friendly. Also the shower was unclean and had not been thoroughly cleaned for quite some time. Would not recommend.

This is a dated motel with worn furnishings and inconsistent cleaning. Probably a 7.6 or so out of 10. The vanes on the heater had been knocked closed. So the room was drafty and cold until we figured out what was wrong. One half of the queen bed heating mattress pad did not work. The shower would not fully shut off, so we kept the toilet door closed to muffle the sound. The twin bed mattress heater was installed you had to run its power cord across the room at shin height. When we check in, the towels in our room were worn and frayed to the point where they resembled mechanics shop rags. We were given better towels when we raised the issue. We stayed for 3 nights and did not receive any housekeeping. On the plus side, the shower had good pressure and even sufficent hot water considering it was never fully off. The location is nearly ideal and close to the better restaurants. Over all, this property would have difficulty competing if it were not for its location. Ask for a room that over looks the pasture and not the street.

Great location near the heart of Halls Gap. Within 5-8min walk to most restaurants and shops. Kangaroos everywhere at dusk and dawn. Lots of bird life too. Could hear kookaburras at dawn. Our room was comfortable enough but doesn't seem very clean. The towels were on the thin side. Service wise, we requested for room make up service but the staff claimed we did not. We also had another guest trying to open our door. They told us the staff informed them this was there toom.

We were at Kookaburra Motel from 18 - 20 January not as stated above. Fabulous mountain views from room. Wildlife abounds, Kangaroos bounding everywhere, kookaburras, magpies, cockatoos. Simply lovely. Shower water too cold on first morning and even though issue was reported and 'fixed' the following morning was similar with very luke warm water. A bit more effort on bathroom cleanliness would have been good and quite noisy on Friday night up until about midnight. Overall a reasonable stay for a 2 day break at Halls Gap at a good price.

The mountain view from the rooms is great. A table and chairs is provided both inside and outside and so, depending on the weather, you can enjoy your breakfast (or lunch / dinner) whilst taking in the view. Location perfect to start the many walks that begin in Halls Gap.

The motel is a pretty average place. I suppose you get what you pay for, it’s quite cheap to book but that’s noticeable. The bed was very uncomfortable and the front door is actually an interior door so is very thin and doesn’t make you feel very safe. The inside just feels very outdated. We arrived at 5:25pm on Friday and there was no management in the building to check in, I was told they would contact me soon or in the morning, I got a phone call while out for dinner at 8pm and then not again until 1pm the following day, when I went back to check in at 1:30, the reception was still locked and had to ring staff to let me inside to check in as they requested. On a positive note, the shower had good pressure.

Many very cheeky cockatoos and parrots around. Lovely to hear their screeching mixed with the kookaburra laughing in the evenings. I loved the electrical appliances like microwave, toaster and kettle. Plates, cups, glasses and cutlery available. All that was great. Especially the electric blanket in all of the beds , nice and cozy at night. A little upgrade would be great - carpet was a bit stained and the whole room could really need a renovation.

A bit dated but clean and comfortable, good location near the main street, fridge/kettle/microwave, lots of TV options (Netflix, etc.). Only negatives were very loud birds nearby, and heater was a bit of a trial and error exercise (i.e. is level 2 equal to room temperature? What is level 2 like on low vs medium vs high?).

The motel is a pretty average place. I suppose you get what you pay for, it’s quite cheap to book but that’s noticeable. The bed was very uncomfortable and the front door is actually an interior door so is very thin and doesn’t make you feel very safe. The inside just feels very outdated. We arrived at 5:25pm on Friday and there was no management in the building to check in, I was told they would contact me soon or in the morning, I got a phone call while out for dinner at 8pm and then not again until 1pm the following day, when I went back to check in at 1:30, the reception was still locked and had to ring staff to let me inside to check in as they requested. On a positive note, the shower had good pressure.

The property is in a great location and the room was clean with the usual amenities. On the down side the outside gardens and rear patios are overgrown and unkept. The BBQ area and around the managers residence was also untidy with rubbish bins half full of water etc., the whole property needs some regular maintenance outside. The property manager/owner was nowhere to be found for our stay of 2 nights, a phone call on our arrival was our only contact.

Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Position in Halls Gap was fabulous. Super easy to walk to shops. Wildlife at the door. Room was very comfortable and very clean. It is an older style unit. Price was very good. Would stay there again.

Great location near the heart of Halls Gap. Within 5-8min walk to most restaurants and shops. Kangaroos everywhere at dusk and dawn. Lots of bird life too. Could hear kookaburras at dawn. Our room was comfortable enough but doesn't seem very clean. The towels were on the thin side. Service wise, we requested for room make up service but the staff claimed we did not. We also had another guest trying to open our door. They told us the staff informed them this was there toom.

Located on a quiet residential street right next to town and within walking distance of restaurants and shop. When I arrived, the neighbors were sunning themselves across the street. The neighbors are KANGAROOS! I was so enchanted to see kangaroos around the neighborhood each time I came and went. My room faced a sheep pasture framed by mountains where I relaxed and watched Super Fairy Wrens around the patio. Very pretty sunset from the patio. The young man who works there was very kind and I was able to do laundry. The room is a little dated but ultimately I think it works beautifully, the Lodge is just perfect for a peaceful mountain stay.

The mountain view from the rooms is great. A table and chairs is provided both inside and outside and so, depending on the weather, you can enjoy your breakfast (or lunch / dinner) whilst taking in the view. Location perfect to start the many walks that begin in Halls Gap.

Nice outlook from the patio across the field to the mountains. Quiet location off the main road. Quick & easy check in with friendly staff. Room was adequate & fair for the price. Bathroom was very dated & could do with improving but everything still worked. Pleasant 1 night stay.

Location was convenient to downtown Halls Gap. Out the back sliding door was pasture land with sheep as well as kangaroos in the evening. The restaurants were within walking distance and the food was great. When for a hike the next morning to Fish Falls. It was very pretty. Would not recommend the hike for those with mobility issues. Very steep stairs and uneven ground.

Ideal location in central Halls Gap a block behind the main road. Enjoyed the wildlife (kangaroos, kookaburras and cockatoos) while sitting outside the room in the late afternoon. The room had all the usual motel facilities.

We were slightly apprehensive given reviews of “aging and worn” rooms so we were pleasantly surprised by our room. It was large, well lit, and provided with all the facilities we needed. Huge bathroom with abundance of towels. Lots of electrical outlets for gadget charging which was atypical of other motels we stayed at during our trip. Small patio overlooking a large pasture with resident sheep. Guest laundry on site with reasonable charge. Hoards of cockatoos to entertain and overwhelm you should you ill-advisedly produce any edibles. Location on the edge of town was quiet and restful but easily walkable to shops and restaurants. This was one of our favorite stopovers on a two week trip and also one of the more economical motels we used.

Staff were good on the phone. I never met them in person. There should be a height clearance limit on the entry to see if vehicles can fit under. Also the bathroom door did not shut properly. The room was great. The outdoor area out the back of room was old and rundown. Not very inviting. Also some lighting out the front at night for late entry’s would be helpful.
