Lovely hotel with a cute courtyard where we had lunch. Stayed in the large suite with its own lovely garden. The room was big, two bathrooms and nice big bed. Coffee machine and kettle with fresh milk in the fridge and fluffy bathrobes plus easy ample parking. The downside was it was quite noisy from the road, bifold doors across the division from bedroom to sitting room would solve this problem. Also could do with body moisturiser….none was supplied. Overall great hotel.

This is a lovely hotel in a very old building which backs onto The Burghley House Estate. It has a big free car park and outside terrace. It has a lovely restaurant Milly's, where we had a fabulous evening meal which was competitively priced and a good breakfast with lots of choice.The staff were friendly and helpful. It was very hot when we stayed and our bedroom was an oven. There was a very large fan in our room but it was too noisy to sleep with. Our bedroom window was screwed shut, fortunately the bathroom window did open. We appreciate the difficuties posed by an old building but hope something can be done to enable some more ventilation in the bedroom. Stamford itself is well worth a visit. We shall be back

Great hotel in a lovely location within walking distance of everything in Stamford. We had booked a Cosy Room which was on the small side but was perfectly comfortable for our one-night stay. It had a lovely view out over the gardens, and was well-equipped with a small fridge and a kettle. There were also delicious cookies in the room on our arrival. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection of hot food which is cooked to order; we were able to eat it outside as the weather was so warm. The hotel has very pretty gardens and a large car park. Staff were polite and efficient. We ill definitely stay here the next time we are in Stamford.

Very good location to walk into Stamford. Nice old hotel with history attached. Well appointed rooms, easy parking and nice breakfast. The room was a bit on the small side for the price and the shower cubicle was smaller than we are used to but overall very nice.

We loved our stay here! The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Our dog received an incredible welcome, including her own bed, bowls and hamper full of snacks! The room was spotlessly clean, a good size, comfortable and had everything we needed for a great stay. The vegan breakfast was great and we had a drink in the evening, enjoying an expertly made cocktail. The hotel is in walking distance of Burghley House and grounds (accessible via the hotel's garden) and has plenty of parking for guests. It'd be great if they could install additional electric vehicle chargers as both were occupied on our arrival, but we managed to charge in the morning during breakfast which was really helpful with our onward journey. We'd definitely come back here!

Great location. This property is very well looked after. If anybody plans his wedding, this would be the perfect place. The food which is served here is just delicious! We travelled as a couple with a well behavied dog and the whole staff was so welcoming and friendly. We only can recommend this place

Ample parking, lovely looking hotel. Our room was a bit on the small side,the area to access the sink was incredibly tight. My husband had to be at an angle making shaving impossible. Thankfully it was fine for one night but anymore could have been problematic.

Great location at end of town. 10 min walk into centre. Good food and plenty restaurants near by. Large car parking free of charge. Nice rooms (bit small and small double bed) breakfast at millys average.

Lovely historic hotel which still has some of the original features. Room was a good size, but needed a repaint. At back of hotel with no view out of the window. Disappointing for £161 per night. Excellent quality bath towels. One or two if the staff needed a bit more training. Very rushed and not particularly interested in you as a guest.

Very dissappointed with overall look of room. Absolutely no soft furnishings or pictures on the wall. I would describe the room as "stark" . Heated towel rail did not work. Carpet out side of room heavily stained. It was explained that the hotel was under new management and that not all rooms had been fully refurbished. Therefore this expensive room should have been let a discounted rate. Staff were pleasent enough.

Unfortunately, we were situated in an area of the hotel that was being renovated. The room was very small with uneven floors. The fan provided was broken and there wasn't enough plugs to run the fridge, fan and coffee. The service provided was good. the food served was delicious. For the price we paid I felt it was very over priced for the quality of the room. I have stayed in mecures and Premier Inns for a lot less and the quality of rooms were better.

The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. The hotel was immaculately presente clean and comfortable. The room was well furnished and also comfortable if not a little small as we were there for only one night it wasn’t an issue.

This is a nice hotel. The room was nice and clean but there were no drawers or wardrobes only some hooks to hang your clothes and it was quite small. The cooked breakfast was good but the portion size was small and you are charged extra for any coffee other than filter coffee. Considering the high price l feel it should be included and l feel the service charge on alcoholic drinks is excessive.

Haven't stayed here for a while, OK room but view not great and in need of updates. Socks found in room and a hole in towel. Coffee machine, with only a few pods, no instant alternative, tea bags. fresh milk and nice cookies a nice touch. Interesting breakfast menu.

I did not rate this hotel, my room was super dusty causing me breathing problems during the night due to my allergies. I paid close to £140 for 1 night here and the price did not reflect the service, cleanliness and facilities. I had a full english breakfast which was nice however it didn't come with beans which I thought was strange, I checked out and handed the key to a lady at reception only to receive a call a few hours later telling me I hadn't handed the key back and they wanted to charge me £50. I wont be staying here again unfortunately.

Just a one night stay…the hotel is an old property, full of quirks and charm but having said that…a little tired in some areas of decor. We had room number 10, although double glazed, traffic noise was very evident! and as I said could do with a re-vamp . The breakfast was excellent, lovely choices, could not fault it and service was great! We would stay again when visiting the area but only if guaranteed a room at other side of the building .

Awful stay. Our room was exceptionally hot and the window did not open. We could not find the hair dryer and it turned out it was on the floor in the cupboard. A man walked into a room in the morning without warning! When reception was questioned they said we were put in the wrong room so staff were not expecting us in that room. Such a disappointing stay.

The room and bathroom was very large, however the bed was not comfortable and there was a lot of noise from the road and the room above resulting in a poor nights sleep.

Everything was lovely, especially he food. My issue was that I couldn’t stand up fully in the bedroom and had I tilt my head one side to move around the room. All else was great

The rooms are in need of TLC. Our room was so hot no way of turning the heating down and couldn’t open the window due to a lot of road/traffic noise. The staff were all very friendly and helpful

Dinner was excellent. The hotel from the outside was lovely and a very nice walk to Burghley house. Also easy to walk into Stamford. Unfortunately we had booked a classic double room. I was told that our room was classed as cosy. It was indeed and not in a nice way. There was no wardrobe. The bed faced the window and being on the ground floor afforded no privacy from bypassers on the street. You could not leave the curtains open because of lack of privacy. Also the closed room curtain got in the way of the tea and coffee facilities. All in all the worst hotel room we have stayed in for a very long time.

Very good location to walk into Stamford. Nice old hotel with history attached. Well appointed rooms, easy parking and nice breakfast. The room was a bit on the small side for the price and the shower cubicle was smaller than we are used to but overall very nice.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful town. Our room was £163 (members price ) and our room was tiny ! Low ceilings and I couldn’t stand up straight in the room. So small no wardrobe would fit in which is inconvenient as nowhere to hang clothes. In the bathroom you could not sit up in the bath because of the height and slope of the roofline. So think £163 very expensive. Nice coffee tea & cookies in the room and nice toiletries. Good breakfast and lovely friendly and helpful staff. Generally very nice hotel for one night but any longer and I would want a different room and look for more value for my money.

Awful stay. Our room was exceptionally hot and the window did not open. We could not find the hair dryer and it turned out it was on the floor in the cupboard. A man walked into a room in the morning without warning! When reception was questioned they said we were put in the wrong room so staff were not expecting us in that room. Such a disappointing stay.

Have stayed here before but this time the guests played second fiddle to the wedding party. One of our meal at dinner was satisfactory, but the second was minimalist in the extreme. Breakfast and parking were good!

We had an excellent overnight stay at the William Cecil as a group of 8. The staff were efficient and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our meal in the restaurant in the evening was delicious as was breakfast. There was plenty to choose from. Our bed was very comfortable and despite the noise from the busy road, we had a good night's sleep. The hotel is beautiful and in an excellent location. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Extremely friendly receptionist and it’s so nice to be accompanied to your room rather than be left alone . The hotel rooms are quite quirky with antique furnishings and our room had an oriental/ Asian flavour…perhaps some artwork over the bed would have made the room more appealing.The bed and shower were great and extremely hot water so that is a bonus. We walked to visit Burghley house which is located behind the inn and is a must see. The town of Stamford is a hidden gem …I felt we were on a movie set…exquisite Georgian buildings and fantastic indie shops. Would definitely stay again…Breakfast is fab and Gluten free options

An absolutely amazing nights stay, the bed was incredibly comfy and we slept like a log. The staff were very attentive, one slight criticism was they need more staff as when we went to the bar we were waiting for quite a while to be attended to. Their sister bar restaurant down the road we left after 20 minutes, the waiter took my drink order while my wife was choosing, 20 minutes later and nothing. So sadly they lost out on our food and drinks order.

Very friendly staff throughout our stay. Large room, very comfortable and nice to have a large fan keeping us cool at night. Only issue was the lack of power sockets in this day and age when tech is king, but we managed. Ate at Milly's on the first evening and breakfast on both days, all very nice. Would recommend, especially as Burghley House Estate is literally at the back of the hotel and Stamford itself is a lovely town.

This is a lovely hotel in a very old building which backs onto The Burghley House Estate. It has a big free car park and outside terrace. It has a lovely restaurant Milly's, where we had a fabulous evening meal which was competitively priced and a good breakfast with lots of choice.The staff were friendly and helpful. It was very hot when we stayed and our bedroom was an oven. There was a very large fan in our room but it was too noisy to sleep with. Our bedroom window was screwed shut, fortunately the bathroom window did open. We appreciate the difficuties posed by an old building but hope something can be done to enable some more ventilation in the bedroom. Stamford itself is well worth a visit. We shall be back

Great hotel in a lovely location within walking distance of everything in Stamford. We had booked a Cosy Room which was on the small side but was perfectly comfortable for our one-night stay. It had a lovely view out over the gardens, and was well-equipped with a small fridge and a kettle. There were also delicious cookies in the room on our arrival. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection of hot food which is cooked to order; we were able to eat it outside as the weather was so warm. The hotel has very pretty gardens and a large car park. Staff were polite and efficient. We ill definitely stay here the next time we are in Stamford.

We loved our stay here! The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Our dog received an incredible welcome, including her own bed, bowls and hamper full of snacks! The room was spotlessly clean, a good size, comfortable and had everything we needed for a great stay. The vegan breakfast was great and we had a drink in the evening, enjoying an expertly made cocktail. The hotel is in walking distance of Burghley House and grounds (accessible via the hotel's garden) and has plenty of parking for guests. It'd be great if they could install additional electric vehicle chargers as both were occupied on our arrival, but we managed to charge in the morning during breakfast which was really helpful with our onward journey. We'd definitely come back here!

Disappointed with our stay. Superior room had tired & dated bathroom, lacklustre finish to room which was also very noisy from road traffic. Oh & nearly forgot to mention the tv which had no programmed channels & an alarm that went off at 3am. The restaurant we would have eaten in, but at 7.15pm they stated couldn’t take our order for 40 minutes as the large party in front had not yet ordered, yet we were ready to place & only a couple. Wouldn’t recommend.

Lovely for Dogs, But Not at All Baby-Friendly This hotel may be great for dog owners, but it's extremely unaccommodating for families with babies. Despite calling ahead and being assured a cot would be available, there was none. We were promised a Z-bed instead, which wasn’t in the room on arrival and took 30 minutes to organize. There’s no baby-friendly dining: no room service, no food before 6pm, and the kids’ menu is outdated and unsuitable for infants. High chairs are available, but no baby plates or cutlery. It took 20 minutes to heat up baby food — in plastic — and only after chasing reception in person, as rooms have no phones. Rooms aren’t family-friendly either: very light with no blackout curtains, no toothpaste or slippers, and taps that don’t mix hot and cold, making it hard to wash a baby safely. The food overall was disappointing. Greek yogurt comes pre-mixed with honey, fruit salad is soaked in orange juice, and even a simple mint tea was made with packaged leaves despite fresh mint growing in the garden. Most staff are young and kind, but poorly managed. Leadership feels disengaged, which is a shame given the hotel's potential and beautiful setting. We wouldn’t return — staying here with a baby was far more stressful than it should have been.

This is a nice hotel. The room was nice and clean but there were no drawers or wardrobes only some hooks to hang your clothes and it was quite small. The cooked breakfast was good but the portion size was small and you are charged extra for any coffee other than filter coffee. Considering the high price l feel it should be included and l feel the service charge on alcoholic drinks is excessive.

Great location, friendly and helpful staff. We had a “cosy” room but it was big and lovely bathroom. My only complaint would be lack of power points. To use the kettle or coffee maker you had to go under the dressing table to swap the plugs and same to use the hairdryer. It was clean and very comfortable and a bonus we didn’t know about was you can walk straight into Burghley house grounds from the hotel. The breakfast was included and excellent. We chose the full English but plenty of options. We didn’t eat there for dinner but the restaurant did seem busy. Would definitely stay there again

Lovely bed and pillows, but poor small dated bathroom with unclean shower seal and no storage space. Coffee machine dirty in room. Fridge/table unit on sloping floor (understandable due to nature of old building) but everything rolled out. Breakfast staff not very attentive. Very overpriced, feel we spent too much for 1 night.

Just returned for a 3 night break at The William Cecil. It is a charming, old hotel ideally situated for a walk into Stamford or as a base to explore the region. It is clean and well maintained with plenty of parking. All the staff we encountered during our stay were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. We had a small, "Cosy" room which, again, was clean with a large, comfortable bed. The only downside was the absence of storage for clothes which meant we were living out of a suitcase. The was no wardrobe or drawers and the only cupboard was taken by the tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. Four hangers on two coat hooks fixed to the door to the room is inadequate for a four star hotel. Breakfast was excellent. Freshly cooked food served by cheerful staff was a definite plus. All in all a good break and would definitely stay again although would probably opt for a larger room

All in all a good break and would definitely stay again although would probably opt for a larger room

What an amazing hotel! We were running late due to traffic. They held a table open for us even though the restaurant was closing! We were checked in before we arrived and the key handed to us at the dining table! Evening meal and breakfast were both delicious.

A lovely venue with good quality food, Given the room rate it would be good if the bedrooms had a little more home comforts like bath robes and a biscuit or something to accompany the coffee in the rooms.
