Hotel was clean and comfortable. Check in was quick and seamless, they were very accommodating of our late arrival. Staff was friendly and welcoming. In. Short, everything you don't expect from a roadside motel. My favorite part was the small touches, like treats on the nightstand and a rubber duckie for our kids to play with in the bath! Only complaint was the lack of a self-serve ice machine.

It was clean and quiet. Check in was fast and access to the room was easy. We were on a road trip and appreciated a fast in and out, no hassle experience at a reasonable price. We like the old school privately owned hotels that are well kept like Sunset. Back up to the door and haul your junk straight into the room. No dragging coolers through lobbies and elevators and hallways. After all, we didn't fly half way across the country to waste time looking at hotels, did we? Breakfast.... well, that's not a breakfast where we come from. We had to hit the cooler and food stash for breakfast that morning. Still, we'd stay there again.

If you love old school nostalgic motels like us, this one on old Route 66 in Moriarty, NM fits the bill. Nicely maintained property with lovely patio area. Cozy room with comfy beds. Definitely plan to return.

Retro vibe. Spacious room. Can park right in front of your room door. The parking lot is plenty big if pulling a trailer. Grassy dog area with bags and receptacles. Quick check in and out. Very close to I-40

The check-in person was very sweet. The doggie area was squeaky clean, and the room was good. The beds are a bit over-firm. The property is well kept and pleasant. It felt very safe and we will stay there again. The check in person gave us a goodie bag with fruit and other excellent goodies. Very worth the cost. Thank you!

This is a very nice place for so many reasons. It has a vintage look, but definitely not run down. Everything was kept up and beautiful. There's a nice grassy area for the dogs that's well lit and has bags and a garbage can. The towels were nice and thick and the beds had white bedspreads and sheets that were spotless. There were Hershey kisses on the nightstand and a little rubber duck on the bathtub. There was even a Keurig machine. The owner checked me in and was very friendly and helpful. She gave me a paper with suggestions on where to eat with information on each place and the list of channels for the tv. Breakfast was a bag with fruit and homemade pastry. I haven't eaten it yet because I'm writing this before breakfast but the pastries look amazing! I would definitely stay here again if we're in the area.

Very nice lady at the front desk. She fixed my online booking mistake at no extra charge for a room change and had nothing less than a good positive attitude. Also, Had so many cute lil touches like chocolate kisses on the bedside table with a good night kiss note. The best breakfast bag for the morning and nice clean Keurig with Starbucks K cups. This place is so clean and comfortable!! I'll definitely stay again if ever in the area!

The owner/operator was kind and communicative. The room choice which was a higher price point was not honored. The hotel grounds were maintained, but the rooms could use updating. It smelled old and was not very clean, with lots of hair, stains, and dust. We were also charged an additional fee for our dog, which would’ve been fine and understandable if the room was in better condition and the cleaner was able to clean up after humans. Safe and remote. But not worth the price.

I wish people would be more truthful on these reviews. When people say retro, what they mean is it's old. The staff was fine, but to be rated at a 9.1 is a big stretch. No ice machine exept when the office is open, the breakfast is nothing but a pastry from like a gas station and a piece of fruit. In our room there was a left over cup of soda in the refrigerator. I'm giving it a 3.5 because it was adequate for a one night stay, but nothing to write home about.

Cool little Rt 66 remnant in Moriarty NM. Pricing much better than Santa Fe, vintage building and grounds in decent shape, not fancy. Free baked goods and fruit for breakfast. I would stay here again cause it fits my style.

This is a great place. It was like being transported back 50 years when we traveled across country staying in motels along the way. I was leary as many of this era motels are not where you’d want to stay. But from start to end, this was a good experience. Check in was great. Very friendly. We were upgraded to a bigger room as we had 2 small dogs. The room was REALLY soundproof. Must be the cement block build. Room was clean and bed very comfy. There was a pet area and gave us a cover for on the bed for the dogs. I would definitely stay here again. Americana of days gone by.

Perfectly fine, not gussied up at all, but fine. I think we had the "classic" room. Big room (2 queen beds), bathroom modernized, outer sink and 2nd sink in room w shower is nice. Was quiet. Outside compound light very bright, shown thru a gap in the side of last blind ( missing one vertical slat?), and reflected across room from wall mirror.

Great hotel, bad WiFi. No Ipv4 so dns errors on half the websites you try to go to and or apps wont work hopefully they fix it. I'm an IT administrator at a credit union and both our phones and my laptop had the same issues. It wasn't our devices.

Very clean! To go breakfast-brown bag, was so convenient. Lightning was kind of dim and electric outlets were also sparse. Definitely will visit again. Convenient to Heart of New Mexico Fiber Festival venue. Freindly folks in Moriarty.

The lady at check in was very friendly. The snack bag was nice. The bed was very uncomfortable. The carpet in the room seemed worn and very old. I\'ve never seen such a small tv and an odd placement of the tv. It was at best 21" and as far away from the bed as it could be. No where by the bed to plug in your phones. No towel hooks or any place to put your stuff in the bathroom. The sink is a very old fashioned sink, but no vanity to set your things. There was a small shelf above the sink that was inadequate. A few towel hooks would greatly improve the bathroom. The tub looked dingy, and could use a refinish. It was noisy from the road too. But not too bad. With all that said, it was, extremely inexpensive. It felt safe. Honestly, the cost absolutely offset the lack simple conveniences like a larger tv, etc. But I seriously hope they install a few towel hooks in the bathrooms. I\'d stay there again.

We loved everything about this place. It brought back many memories of Route 66 TV program right down to the retro furnishings. We were greeted warmly at checkin and even given a wonderful bag of goodie’s. The room was nicely decorated and played out and the extra sink outside the bath was a bonus. It was the most enjoyable stay on our trip and we will try to get back there.

Like a blast from the past, 70's feel motel The beds was comfortable. Bathroom small, guess it was smaller back then. The vintage chairs needs new cushions, unknown it they where ever replaced The blinds are easily knocked off so be careful but they are easily put back on We had a muffin, bear claw and 2 oranges in our welcome bag. Just leave tbe key on the dresser and head on your way

Parking was easy. We had 3 queen beds. One bed was in a room by itself so we had some privacy. Hotel is older, but in good repair with updated air conditioner. Breakfast was great and given to us at check in so we didnt have to rush out to breakfast. Very relaxing evening and will stay again if we pass through town.

My family traveled to NM from Missouri and they had the absolute best experience. The woman I spoke with on the phone to inform that they would be there after reservation, was absolutely amazing! She was very sweet and respectful. Nice and accomodating. Thank you soo much!!

We normally stop here, pretty much every time we pass through. The owners (the elderly couple) are always nice and welcoming. I have never, not once ever had a problem arise. I can’t say enough good things about my experience here. The front desk manager Christina was polite, professional and very kind. This is a boutique style motel so it was unique with its own special touches, vintage western decor and truly fit the classic Route 66 vibes I would expect in the “blink and you miss it” town of Moriarty. The “good night kiss” Hershey’s kisses in the room as well as the little rubber ducky on the bath towels were adorable and appreciated! The bedding was soft, beds were comfortable and the cleanliness was impressive given the age of the building. I would definitely recommend this motel.

What a nice find! From check in to check out the entire stay was lovely. The host is exceptionally friendly and helpful. I loved the upgrades in the room esp. the mini-split heat pumps. The breakfast treat to go was a nice bonus.

I’ve stayed at the Sunset Motel twice now and both times have gone great. It’s dog-friendly, close to multiple places to eat, safer than Albuquerque (my opinion), and it has historic charm. The staff is always friendly and the check in & out process is always fast and easy.

It was clean and quiet. Check in was fast and access to the room was easy. We were on a road trip and appreciated a fast in and out, no hassle experience at a reasonable price. We like the old school privately owned hotels that are well kept like Sunset. Back up to the door and haul your junk straight into the room. No dragging coolers through lobbies and elevators and hallways. After all, we didn't fly half way across the country to waste time looking at hotels, did we? Breakfast.... well, that's not a breakfast where we come from. We had to hit the cooler and food stash for breakfast that morning. Still, we'd stay there again.

We were passing through the area during the week of the Balloon Fiesta. Having never been to NM or the Fiesta, Mike offered great advice for taking in the mass accention. And several local places for food and drinks. Also I left my camera battery and charger in the room. Before I had a chance to contact them, they had already sent me a text message. Very helpful.

We do a trip to Arkansas from Nevada one to two times a year. This is our favorite place to stop. The owners are always amazing out first leg is about 19 hours which means we don’t always make it before their office closes. But they always work with us to ensure we can access our room.

I think this was the cleanest motel I have ever been to. On old Route 66 so loved the older style. Beds comfortable and very nice sitting area on side of motel. Felt safe. Only issue was that I was told my credit card wasn’t working right so had to pay cash. It worked fine the whole trip so not sure what the deal was. Very friendly staff. Would definitely stay again and great alternative from staying in unsafe Albuquerque! Left my glasses and son left a shirt and they had it waiting for me on the return trip which was awesome.

A throwback motel with a Route 66 heritage, it was perfect for my stay! It isn’t on I-40 like the other chain hotels in Moriarity so it was really quiet and comfortable. Slept great! The staff were really nice, the rooms clean. Nothing fancy and nothing needed like that for me anyway! The muffins and the bear claw awesome from the front desk for breakfast! Will definitely stay again

Cool little Rt 66 remnant in Moriarty NM. Pricing much better than Santa Fe, vintage building and grounds in decent shape, not fancy. Free baked goods and fruit for breakfast. I would stay here again cause it fits my style.

I wish people would be more truthful on these reviews. When people say retro, what they mean is it's old. The staff was fine, but to be rated at a 9.1 is a big stretch. No ice machine exept when the office is open, the breakfast is nothing but a pastry from like a gas station and a piece of fruit. In our room there was a left over cup of soda in the refrigerator. I'm giving it a 3.5 because it was adequate for a one night stay, but nothing to write home about.

Owner was a nice lady. Gave us a little gift bag with breakfast which was awesome. Also gave us a paper on information for the balloon fiesta we were going to that was really helpful. My kids loved the little rubber ducky in the bathroom

We loved our overnight stay at the perfectly retro Sunset Motel! Really comfy, A/C worked great, TV channels lovely, bathroom & vanity area. The front desk manager was so sweet, and we got a grab bag of baked goods and tangerines from their local baker in town for the next morning. :)

"old" style motel with real keys. Very easy to find. No breakfast room, but you are handed a gift bag with breakfast to eat at your pleasure!! Bed was comfy, room was sparkling clean and well-furnished. Easy to recommend to those tired of cookie-cutter commercial motel chains!

Sunset Motel is a gem! A spotless, comfortable property that is full of Route 66 charm. Pre-arrival communications were clear, comprehensive and welcoming. Check-in was seamless and friendly. Peet’s coffee was a treat in the room as were the thoughtfully placed outlets/charging ports, making it easy to recharge phones — no putting the phone on the floor in the corner here! Room #9 was beautifully appointed in mid-mod mode (vintage but not worn) and scrupulously clean. It felt to us that owner/operators loved and were proud of this establishment. So were we!
