The Refuge Inn staff made me feel right at home. Easy check in, regardless we were early and we had a room in the first floor which was wonderful since we had access to the mini forest/patio area perfect for my two kids, 2 and 7. The yard also had access to the pool which was beautiful covered in plants and half outdoor/indoor. the hot tub did have a little too much chemical but it was clean. For every day we stayed breakfast was included. I would def stay here again.

Our stay at Refuge Inn was fabulous. The location is wonderful for accessing Assateague Island and food was easily reached on the main thoroughfare. The hotel was clean and the staff very friendly. We enjoyed the pool, the rooftop area, and we loved visiting the ponies on property. Our ONLY complaint was that the fitness room was only accessible on the hours of the office (8 am-10pm) as you need a physical key to enter. We are just early morning exercisers with consideration of having small children with us. We would gladly return to Refuge Inn for a future visit.

This is a delightful family owned hotel. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. The room has an in-room coffee maker and refrigerator. There was a hair dryer and nice toiletries as well. The microwave, vending machines, laundry facilities, lending library, and area information were in a common area. The grounds are well maintained and had many beautiful plants. The pool and hot tub are clean and well maintained. Towels are provided for pool and hot tub use. The staff is warm and helpful. The hotel has a tasteful gift shop. The hotel is next door to some fenced in Chincoteague ponies which you can feed with food they have for purchase from a dispenser. There is a roof observation deck which is accessed by a narrow spiral staircase. There is also a workout room and sauna available for use. Breakfast is simple (chosen from options the night before) and delivered to your door during a window of time you select. Coffee is also available just off the main lobby. The hotel is quiet and comfortable. Many thoughtful touches. We will be back. Highly recommend!!

Tastefully appointed room and decor (not your sterile corporate looking typical hotel room). Beautiful indoor pool and hot tub with many tropical plants, felt a bit like a greenhouse - very relaxing. Very convenient location to Assateague National Refuge and Seashore. Be aware there is no elevator, so if you have any issue with stairs, request a first floor room.

Our stay at Refuge Inn was the best. The staff was so friendly and helpful and our accomodations were great. Our room was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the ponies on the property were a bonus. We loved the way breakfast was served. Refuge Inn has the vibe of Chincoteague lsland; so much better than chain hotels. Independently owned and a rich history with the island, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. I highly recommend Refuge Inn.

While this seems to be a more old-fashioned property, it is definitely very clean and comfortable. I’m a bit of an germaphobe and although I love to travel, some hotels give me an ick. I did not feel icky here at all. Upon check in we were greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner. We have dealt with three different people at the front desk during our stay and they were all very friendly and professional. We did have an issue with the AC and addressed and it was taken care of immediately. There is complimentary breakfast that gets delivered to your door which is pretty awesome and convenient. The pool is indoor/outdoor. It has a partial roof and I believe the other half can be covered with a roof as well during off season? But since it was hot when we were there, it was open. Nice cozy atmosphere all around. There are horses on the property that my kids (and I) loved. You can purchase a discounted bike voucher for the bike store right next door. The property is located super convenient to literally everything. We rented bikes and explored Chincoteague which was a lot of fun. But you can even walk to a lot of the local restaurants and shops. The beach isn’t far either. I would absolutely recommend this place!

Everything about this place is great except that the floor in our room was durty and they don't clean it when they come to pick up the trash as well as the AC and the mini refrigerator were so laud we ended up turning them off so we can sleep. Thanks God nights were cooler. Not sure if all rooms are like this. Other than that very friendly and welcoming people.

Lovely and charming older property that is well maintained. Lots of amenities, and a different more relaxed vibe than a typical hotel. Our only issue was the ancient air conditioning. While the rest of the facilities had been fairly well updated and well kept, the wall a/c unit was probably installed during the Nixon administration, rattled constantly, and blew just as much hot air. Even with the a/c on high with low temp, room still required the separate (provided) dehumidifier, but we had to bring in our own fan for the far side of the room. The rules and regulations are rather amusing, if not a wee bit militant sounding. We enjoyed our stay, but I don’t know that I could have been there more than one night.

We were on the second floor with a view of the ponies. We aren't used to the humidity so having the room pre-cooled for our arrival was excellent. The complimentary breakfast was a nice treat and housekeeping was very respectful and kind.

The ponies are on view close to the motel. We haven't visited for a number of years and recognize that the rooms have been refurnished. Having a desk is always a plus if traveling with a computer and then to have a cafe size table made the king room seem like a suite. The pool is very pleasant and our room faced a grassy side of the motel with large trees and a picnic table. Walking distance of restaurants.

It was nice beds comfortable,shower hot,pool clean,staff friendly,affordable . I liked the horses in pen!Only thing I didnt like about hotel no microwave in room.The island had plenty of places to shop and eat .Mcdonalds next door.Didnt see any wild horses at this end of Assateague but several on Maryland side .Got ate up by mosquitos especially near lighthouse.

The Inn was beautifully landscaped, and the interior was tastefully decorated, quality furnishings & details in the rooms, even the flora surrounding the indoor/outdoor pool was gorgeous. Cool thing - breakfast was delivered to your door! Only complaint was that the beds were equivalent to sleeping on your kitchen counter. But other than that - HIGHLY recommend!! Super super great place & excellent location - can see the bridge to Assateague from Inn! Book it!

We enjoyed our recent one night stay at the Refuge Inn. Check-in was quick and easy. The lobby, hallways and our room were all well-maintained and clean. Our room looked like it was recently renovated. The bed was comfortable and it was nice to have two chairs to relax in and a small dining area to have our breakfast. Luckily, the weather was warm enough to enjoy the balcony in the afternoon.

Our stay at the Refuge Inn was comfortable, and the hotel's location is excellent. It's conveniently situated right at the entrance of the national park, with everything—including shops and restaurants—within walking distance. There's even a McDonald's right next to the hotel. However, there were a few aspects we didn’t like. The rooms do not have a microwave, which would have been helpful. Also, the breakfast was quite minimal—mostly pre-packaged, ready-to-go items delivered to the room. While we understand there may be space constraints, having a designated breakfast area that serves a more substantial meal would definitely enhance the overall experience.

We enjoyed our stay here for the most part: comfortable, beachy, right near the park, and ponies outside. What put a damper on things for us was the amount of noise we experienced. As nice as the hotel and amenities were, the amount of noise would keep us from staying again. The breakfast in the room was nice, though the options were limited (Cheerios, Frosted Flakes, breakfast sandwich, yogurt, milk, apple/orange juice, baked good).

The Refuge Inn staff made me feel right at home. Easy check in, regardless we were early and we had a room in the first floor which was wonderful since we had access to the mini forest/patio area perfect for my two kids, 2 and 7. The yard also had access to the pool which was beautiful covered in plants and half outdoor/indoor. the hot tub did have a little too much chemical but it was clean. For every day we stayed breakfast was included. I would def stay here again.

The hot tub was a real plus after long days of hiking! The front desk staff were amazingly helpful with recommendations for food and activities. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Our stay at Refuge Inn was the best. The staff was so friendly and helpful and our accomodations were great. Our room was very clean, the beds were comfortable and the ponies on the property were a bonus. We loved the way breakfast was served. Refuge Inn has the vibe of Chincoteague lsland; so much better than chain hotels. Independently owned and a rich history with the island, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. I highly recommend Refuge Inn.

While this seems to be a more old-fashioned property, it is definitely very clean and comfortable. I’m a bit of an germaphobe and although I love to travel, some hotels give me an ick. I did not feel icky here at all. Upon check in we were greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner. We have dealt with three different people at the front desk during our stay and they were all very friendly and professional. We did have an issue with the AC and addressed and it was taken care of immediately. There is complimentary breakfast that gets delivered to your door which is pretty awesome and convenient. The pool is indoor/outdoor. It has a partial roof and I believe the other half can be covered with a roof as well during off season? But since it was hot when we were there, it was open. Nice cozy atmosphere all around. There are horses on the property that my kids (and I) loved. You can purchase a discounted bike voucher for the bike store right next door. The property is located super convenient to literally everything. We rented bikes and explored Chincoteague which was a lot of fun. But you can even walk to a lot of the local restaurants and shops. The beach isn’t far either. I would absolutely recommend this place!

Our stay at the Refuge Inn was comfortable, and the hotel's location is excellent. It's conveniently situated right at the entrance of the national park, with everything—including shops and restaurants—within walking distance. There's even a McDonald's right next to the hotel. However, there were a few aspects we didn’t like. The rooms do not have a microwave, which would have been helpful. Also, the breakfast was quite minimal—mostly pre-packaged, ready-to-go items delivered to the room. While we understand there may be space constraints, having a designated breakfast area that serves a more substantial meal would definitely enhance the overall experience.

Last stop before entering the island. Made it very easy to bike around. Enjoyed the flowers and landscaping and the hot tub was nice after a day out on the island. Breakfast was nice idea but sandwich was stale.

Overall, this was a good choice of hotel. The room was clean, updated and comfortable with adequate space. The staff was friendly. The ponies on the property were a lovely surprise. It was fun to be able to see and pet them every day. We didn't use the pool, but it looked nice and was convenient. The weather was very hot and humid during our 2 day stay...the room and lobby AC were fine, but the common areas were not air conditioned, so coming and going from the room you did need to walk through very humid halls. There is no elevator, so we had to walk to the second floor where our room was. That was a challenge trying to carry cups of coffee up from the lobby and open the hallway doors. Breakfast was delivered in paper bags...I'm guessing because the common areas were so hot, but I'm not sure. I didn't actually see a dining area. Breakfast wasn't terrific. "Fresh fruit" was an apple, orange, or banana (their choice, not yours). "Assorted pastries" was a small, pre-packaged scone. There was fresh coffee, but you had to go to the lobby to get it. If anything needed an upgrade, it was surely the breakfast. That wouldn't stop us from staying here again, but some better choices would be a plus. All-in-all we were pleased with Refuge Inn...even a bad breakfast can't ruin having the ponies to wake up to every morning!

This trip was amazing. We took my granddaughter here four years ago at the Refuge Inn when she was six years old and we loved it so much we wanted to take the rest of the family here when her brothers got older. It was a simple breakfast of bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant, but everybody enjoyed it plus you had yogurt, juices, fruit, and muffins so there was a little bit for everybody. The rooms were clean and neat. And the pool was heated and clean.We would definitely pick the Refuge Inn if we come back again. It’s a very family friendly place.

They had a sack breakfast, that was included, that you chose the night before and it was delivered to your door at your specified time in the morning.The croissant egg sandwiches were tasty and freshly made. The icing on the cake were the Assateague ponies that you could feed right on the property.

Beautiful and clean rooms, kind staff, and relaxing atmosphere. I can’t recommend it enough! We loved the location and bike rentals next door, plus the proximity to the park. We loved the little patio and sliding door. Breakfast didn’t have a ton of options, but it was delivered right to your door and coffee was available all day!

Stuff is friendly and welcomed. Our room was clean and nice bed. Breakfast was good. We love the pool and hottub. Location is great. There are local shops, museums. And alot of great restaurants to eat at. Your right by the state park entrance. We will definitely would go back.

The room was clean and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was a nice little treat every morning and it was delicious. The coffee was always fresh and they had little sweets in the office for guests to grab and enjoy. The location is also ideal and its nice to wake up every morning and see the ponies.

Everything was so lovely! Staff was so accommodating and kind, the grounds were clean and the room was clean and comfy. My biggest complaint is that it was REALLY hard to find trash cans around the grounds, so trying to find a place to throw away food or leftovers we didn’t want in our room was challenging. But there was one single trash can near the lobby so not impossible.
