AWESOME! Real charm, character and hospitality. Anyone can stay at a cookie cutter hotel chain, but this place is one of a kind. Family owned and operated for multiple generations. You can feel the history as you walk around the property. Plenty of parking and good location within walking distance of restaurants and taverns. Ultra clean. Excellent value. Try it you’ll like it.

We love this place and this was our third year in a row of staying here. I would have awarded 5 stars but the elevator was out of service (again) so accessibility for my wife and luggage to our second floor room was difficult. In the future, I will be sure to discuss room options, accessibility-wise with them beforehand, they are extremely helpful. Keep in mind the historic rooms are a little quirky, but nicely furnished. Again I encourage you to call before hand and they can walk you through what the rooms have and don't have. It is a great location within short walking distance to downtown attractions and restaurants. And a very short drive or medium length walk to the awesome Gulf Maritime Museum! Overall a great value and free parking to boot. Old downtown area Mobile is lovely with the old oaks and public squares.

Elevator was out and I am handicapped. The hand rail was wobbly and could not be trusted. The front desk staff offered to carry up the luggage up but I didn’t feel comfortable allowing her to help. My husband did at least 10 trips and almost had an asthma attack. I would have given a near perfect score if it hadn’t been for these issues.

Very historical…including the amenities. TV was very small, there was never anyone at the front desk, elevators didn’t work. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. AC worked wonderfully. I would stay again for the convenience of being downtown in Mobile.

Great location and beautiful courtyard

The hotel itself is old and I like the charm. The employees were very nice. My problem is lack of communication. I tried calling the hotel several times using the number on their website and it would go straight to voicemail which was not set up. They never responded to any messages thru Expedia. My biggest problem is that their elevators were out of order and I was placed on the third floor. I had to make several trips up and down the stairs to unload and to find ice. I later found out the elevators weren’t just out of order but they just haven’t worked in years. There was not a fridge or microwave in the room. The lighting in the room wasn’t great. Ok I guess for the money but it really felt like ownership had no desire to make it a better hotel. Do better guys.

Pros first....An 1860's Inn, lots of historical value; staff was very nice; bed was comfortable; nostalgic; great location; beautiful area of Mobile. Cons.....I am sure some of the main rooms are nice, mine on the 3rd floor...not so much, imagine if a thrift store rented you a room, that's the look and musty smell you would get; elevator does not work and never will, been broken forever, if you can't climb stairs-stay away; my room had a portable air conditioner (July), poorly vented to the outside, blew hot air inside the room, room never cooled, who can sleep in a HOT room?; gave someone a key to my room that they tried to access at midnight, I would imagine that they double booked, never addressed with me; will not return calls or emails if you have an issue with your reservation or need to cancel, etc. So.....YES it is a beautiful property; NO I will not stay again.

Beautiful and spacious room. Fantastic location. Close to all of the bars, restaurants and theaters. Very friendly and helpful staff. Super neat hotel that’s converted from an old home. And about half the price of the other hotels in this area. Highly recommend. Only drawback was the elevator was not working.

I loved the aesthetic of the inn. And the manager, Miss Cathy was very helpful and attentive. The room we stayed in could have been better cleaned. It appeared as though the only thing changed were the sheets. The pillows were stained as well as the comforters. They didn’t appear to have been washed or sanitized in a long time. The nightstand was dusty and the tv remotes didn’t work. One was very sticky even after I wiped it down with a Lysol wipe. I would suggest management reinspect the quality of cleaning of rooms.

Ive stayed here before..in 2 different rooms,it was excellent. Cleanliness, customer service, check in.this time not so much.the room was filthy ,the check in ? Well.... we got there kinda late,the room i wanted was available and obviously wasnt gonna be occupied that nightso i ask desk clerk for an upgrade and he was oblivious on how to upgrade my room..there was still water in ice bucket from guest prior,the dust was so thick on the lamp,the glass tables had not been wiped. But the worst was the floor . Couldnt have been mopped for months.. from the shower to the bed i had to get a cloth and rewash my feet.. i love this little boutique hotel so it was really disheartening..wen i checked out told front desk clerk showed her pictures and all she would say is yes maam. Yes maam.. thats all i got

I understand it is an older property and, honestly, that is a charming part of the hotel. However, it does not justify the conditions of the grounds or rooms. Here are the highlights of a great disappointment on arrival: hair on the toilet seat, hair on the bathroom floor, elevators do not work and the stairs are unsafe ( my friend actually fell down the last 5 stairs on one level becuase they were so slick - not wet either, ceiling paint hanging down, flooring around balcony coming up and apart, the bathroom sink stopper was in 2 pieces and did nto work, the shower did not drain and water built up if you tried to shower, dust on coffee area- obviously not cleaned, remote with stick brown looking substance on it, only 1 washcloth left in room for 2 people for 2 days, ac not working and the room stayed warm. I could go on but these were the most obvious and disappointing. The cost does not reflect the actual accomodations. Very disappointing.

Very poor old thin mattress. No replenishing of items during 3 night stay. Dirty, dusty, hair on fixtures, blown lightbulbs, mildew in shower and on curtains, water dripping from ceiling in bathroom, a/c never reached temp, no desk, no clock, no phone, old linens, dirty stained and tearing seating, furniture missing knobs, no WiFi in room or common areas. Pros: nice towels, pleasant and helpful front desk staff, free parking, courtyard area, history. This hotel has amazing potential if cared for, managed and historically appreciated.

Upon initial inspection there was a used washcloths in the bathtub. We inspected the toilet. When we lifted the toilet seat there was dried blood & urine on it. We took it upon ourselves to clean it with the Clorox disinfectant we had brought with us. We had drove over 700 miles & had to urgently use the restroom. After that we spoke to the receptionist who spoke little English. She called the asst. manager & had me speak to her. When we went to shower and noticed mildew on the plastic liner. During the night the bottom sheet came off & we woke up on the plastic sheet over the mattress. That morning we left for the day. Upon returning that evening we were told they were closing due to the A/C going out. We had plans so I asked for towels to clean up before checking out. The towels I got handed were damp. I asked for a new set. We showered & got ready to checkout. While packing we noticed on the wall by the bed had green fuzzy growing on it. We spoke to others that were checking out who also had issues with cleanliness. As for the over all appearance. The bathroom hadn’t been dusted in quite some time, there was a thick build up on the towel rack & toilet paper dispenser. The furniture & flooring throughout were dingy & unkept. The place truly has the potential just needs someone to clean it up. We cannot recommend Malaga (Hellago).

Clean room

This was a very interesting little hotel, close in to downtown dining, clubs, and activities. The lady working the front desk was wonderful, but seemed to be the only employee. Our issue with our room was cleanliness. Sheets and towels were clean, but the pillows were stained and filthy. Floors and restroom were only superficially cleaned. It is time for a lot of exterior wood to be replaced. Understaffed.

I really enjoyed the location and the property style. It's unique to the south of the United States only. The only one thing I didn't enjoy was cleaning. The bathroom wasn't clean at all. I didn't want to complain to the staff in the middle of the night because I stayed for one night only, so cleaned up the bathtub and the toilet myself. The hotel is gorgeous, so I hope next time it will be more attention to cleaning because this point for improvement is the easiest to fix :)

The first room was horrible, first the beds weren't made , the ac didnt work. And the floor boards had gaps that let a huge roach in. The second room had better updated furnishing but was filthy. The tub had mold on the edges. The floors were full of dirt. They never cleaned out room or gave us clean towels.

The guy working the front desk was super friendly and helpful the room itself was gorgeous and the A/C worked better than expected. My only complain is that the room we were in (historic king) had a thin door with the bed being right by it and there were people coming through and slamming the court yard door right outside the room starting very early in the morning

Property was in a great location for the concert that we went to. However our room was above the front door and the night clerk was outside right under our window having a lively conversation for way to long.

The balcony rooms are always great to stay and wake up with a nice view. Even in the rain sitting there is relaxing.

It’s an older property in Mobile but charming. WiFi worked well. AC was working but not at optimal capacity. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

You'll encounter a saggy bed, well worn bathroom and a rug that has seen much better days. The chair is well suited for the free section of craigslist. The location is great and the staff outstanding. much better days.

The building is from another era but the rooms are very spacious, clean, and very comfortable beds.

All very pleasant! The only issue was poor wireless connectivity in the room.

The hotel is beautiful. We loved all the furnishings and the old wood floors, and the courtyard. The four-poster bed was nice, but the mattress was not good. My head was “downhill”, so I didn’t sleep well. I think for a one-night stay the hotel is fine, but I would not recommend a longer stay.

No wifi as advertised. Poor amenities. Good location though.

I stayed at the in for 2 nights. The only complaint that I have is that the Wi-Fi signal was non existent on the second floor. Neither my phone nor my iPad would connect unless I was in the lobby. It was a bit inconvenient for me, but I would imagine this would be unacceptable if the guest had actual business to conduct from their room. Other than that the stay was wonderful. I loved everything about the inn. It had great charm and character, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was nice and hot. Where the inn really excelled was in its staff. I met several women behind the desk during my stay, and all were helpful, professional, and super friendly. Sent from my iPad

My final room wqa lovely. There were issues with the first room and the night manager took care of it right away. The owner checked on my as i was leaving as welk.

Worst hotel stay I have ever encountered. We get there about 9pm and the power was off. So we stand in the lobby for about 45 min before ever being given a key to our room. When we go up to our room by flashlight and unlock the door, there is people asleep in our bed. We went back down stairs and after another 45 or so wait, we get keys to a different room. The lady tells us we can leave our stuff in there but she still has to change sheets and whatnot and we told her we will be going out to find some food. She assures us that is fine our stuff will be safe. We get back and it’s about 11:30 power still out and it is windy and cold and raining. The front door was locked. We spent about 15 min banging on the front door and windows. We could see there wasn’t a soul at the checkout desk or anywhere to be seen. I had to be in court at 8am the next morning. We had to go across the street to the holiday in and spend 200 more bucks to sleep there WITHOUT OUR STUFF. When my husband went over there at almost 7 to retrieve our stuff so I could rush and get ready, the same lady followed him getting all ill and him saying that we “just didn’t come back” and she was at that desk all night. A BOLD FACED LIE. I called the owner on the way home and explained everything and he assured me we would get a refund that we have not gotten. It has been about 2 weeks. I was so stressed out that night I was crying and for this lady to say we were lying was the biggest slap in the face.

My week long stay was exceptional with the most amazing staff including the lovely Ms Arnetta. What a gem! You guys are blessed to have her. There was not a time I encountered her at the front desk that she was not happy to see me.

Very convenient, walkable location to restaurants and downtown nightlife. “Picturesque “ historical hotel. Nice courtyard area. Rooms were comfortable but need a bit of trim and finish carpentry work. Spotty staff coverage at front desk and no answer for the phone number provided at the desk.

When we arrived at about 5:45 PM, we immediately noticed that the front door was locked and no other cars were in the parking lot. We rang the doorbell several times, but no one came to the door, nor could we see any human activity thru the windows, although the interior lights were on. We tried calling the hotel's phone, but it went to voicemail which was full, so we could not leave a message. After circling the property and finding no other doors open, and after waiting about 30 minutes, we finally went to another hotel. There were no exterior signs saying that they were closed, and we went back a couple of times over the weekend as we stayed nearby, but never found anyone there. Very poor job of communicating, to say the least.

We loved our stay at the Malaga Inn! Jordan, the owner, was very attentive to our every need. He also helped us with information about the area so we could experience Mobile as a local in some aspects. The courtyard is beautiful and a wonderful place to relax after an eventful day. We will stay here every time we visit.

10/10 do not recommend. The front desk receptionist checked us in, in between twitches from whatever she was on, the elevator was broken, there weren’t enough towels in the room, (king suite), for 2 people, & there was one remote between the 2 TV’s in the room & it didn’t work for either of them. When asked, bc the TV in the bedroom of the suite was so loud we couldn’t even carry on a conversation & there was no way to turn it down or off, the receptionist shrugged her shoulders & told us that she didn’t know how to fix the TV’s, she would try to get in touch w someone that did, but basically we were out of luck & she left. After 30 minutes we told her we’d like a refund, she accused us of taking one of the remotes, (there were never 2 in the room & I had told her that when I called regarding the tv to begin with), basically unplugged the tv, & told us that’s all she could do. All the while, clearly on something & unable to fully put a sentence together. They are no refusing a refund bc they didn’t break any policies. 2 TV’s, neither works. A receptionist that is clearly geeked out. Broken elevator. No towels in the room. Being accused of stealing a remote you inquired about as soon as you got in the room but the receptionist is strung o it & doesn’t remember.

Beautiful, clean, old hotel located 10 minutes walking from Dolphin street. We had the balcony up front which was Beautiful. Everything fun to do is in walking distance. Free parking is a plus.

It's three blocks from Dauphin Street, where there are lots of really nice restaurants and bars. It's also two blocks from Oyster City Brewing Company.

Very nice historic old hotel. The staff were wonderful. There are a number of restaurants within easy walking distance, though we discovered that a lot of them are closed on Monday. The hotel is also close to the cruise port.

The property is old and shows it a little bit but the style and presents of the building make it a very nice experience. located an easy walking distance (a few blocks) from lots of restaurants and entertainment. This is a great place to stay and enjoy the charm and history of Mobile. Shops, restaurants, bars, historical sites and museums are minutes away whether by car or by walking. The surroundings are beautiful. This is a great location.

The property was beautiful. It was quaint and rich in historical facts. Ms.Charlotte at the desk was very polite and helpful. The only thing I would like to see changed is breakfast being served. Otherwise, beautiful property and a great travel experience!

Great place in all ways. Should add a continental breakfast, as there's no place to eat or grab coffee in the immediate area.

The property was unique and charming. The rooms opening into the open courtyard was really nice. However Expedia and Google both said there was free breakfast. There was no breakfast offered, free or otherwise.

Friendly staff, older style rooms (loved the character), and easy walking distance to restaurants and bars uptown. Only suggestion would be to have coffee in common area available for guests. Never been a fan of using coffee pots in rooms, for many reasons. Will stay here again.
