The Imperial Hotel Exmouth

The room we had was very clean with a newly refurbished en-suite. A lift was available, which we were happy to see. Breakfast was very good, a great selection was available, just help yourself. The Hotel has it's own car park, but it will cost you £6 per night! I will definitely recommend this Hotel.

Very friendly staff. Light, open breakfast room. The location was great ...near the town centre and easy access to the sea front. Lovely spacious gardens with terrace and beer garden.

Fab Seaview and Gardens. No lift to rooms in hotel extension.

The hotel and Exmouth felt like stepping back in time and felt like Miss Marple could walk in at anytime. Parts of the property were a little dated and require an update/refurb. Unfortunately the weather was really hot so the room was quite warm although a fan was supplied AC would have helped. The bar staff, maintenance and Manager were great. There was an unfortunate incident which all of the staff especially the bar staff and manager handled with consideration and empathy. Ideally located and outside area and terrace were lovely.

Hotel is a little tired but staff where great as well aa breakfast. Good for dogs as has large grounds for confort breaks. Thanks would stay again.

Highly attentive staff, huge bedroom with seaview was perfect. Plenty of parking available. No score for brekkie as we didn’t eat there.

Really lovely hotel in the perfect location and great staff. Lovely terrace and gardens to enjoy a drink on a sunny afternoon. Can genuinely say all the staff were helpful and friendly- they really make this place. The only downside is it desperately needs a lick of paint outside. Can't really grumble about the interior, just the odd tired looking bit of furniture here and there but its the outside that would benefit the most from a little tlc

Spotlessly clean in the room and very convenient for the beach. We were on the ground floor so we couldn’t see the sea although we had a view of the garden. Parking was easy although there was a daily charge.

Like most hotels at present there is a staffing shortage. The staff here were very friendly and helpful so couldn't fault them. Both room and hotel were clean,though a coat of paint on the outside would not go a miss. The one comment i would make though, is that your rooms are only serviced 3 times per week.you still pay the full prices and for car parking . We booked dinner on first night,not a very good choice on menu.we personally wouldn't book dinner again. Breakfast was self service with a reasonable choice of food available. Would we stay there again,probably because of location and friendliness of the staff

Communal areas lovely. Receptionist very nice. Good location. Room needed refurbishment but was clean, warm and bed comfortable. Bathroom was pretty horrid and was desperately in need of some work. Fixtures as clean as possible but ground in dirt in corners etc. Also, always a bit annoying to have to pay for parking.

Weather was abit chilly but warm and tidy room. Shame the bed was not that comfortable as in need of new mattress. Kept finding woodlice in the bathroom on the floor.

the location is great, the grounds are lovely and the staff are helpful, however the downstairs rooms need refurbishing (old brown chipped furniture) Large black marks on wall. Bathroom needs proper clean. The beds however were clean and comfy.

We arrived was greeted with a complimentary upgrade on room in closer inspection the hotel is very dated and needs a full renovation everywhere and the room we had wasn’t much better to many points to list from stains everywhere to bathroom not being cleaned properly properly moul

Have stopped at the imperial 5 times in last 2 and half years and always found it great value for money, not this time dogs rates have gone up from £10 a dog per night to £20 cleaning has been scaled down use to make rooms up every day now every other day rooms weren't even hoovered properly and by looks of sheets they were never changed in the week we were there. On a plus side the staff are friendly and very helpful. The place does need a bit of modernisation

Spent three days at this hotel. We had a good view of the seafront from our room. The room was clean &well laid out. Only a short walk to town & the train station. We ate a couple of times at the hotel. Well worth the money for those 3 days.

The hotel is in a fabulous location. A five minute walk into town as well as the beach. The staff were lovely, although the hotel is very dated. That can be overlooked for the general position. However, the bedrooms and hotel in general were not very clean at all. This is something that could be easily fixed and would make the hotel stay much better.

The pictures did not match the actual rooms, very disappointing upon arrival. One of the rooms had sand all over the bed and it didn't look like the sheets had been changed.

Quite an old property, the WiFi is dreadfully slow.

W were in abedroom that had a window that could not be opened there was a fan but not the same as fresh air and we were in the heatwave

Very Average hotel. Looked and felt a little ‘faulty towers’. Room was boiling hot with no air conditioning, the window also had a very short safety cord so only opened a few inches. Room was basic but not worth the money paid. Sea view room booked but was on a low level room with a tree in the way.

I had a fairly comfy twin room on the lower ground floor. The doors are very clunky so I would advise the hotel to ask guests to use the key to close the doors quietly. The TV was unacceptably small and bit of a joke. The room was clean except around the fixing at the base of the toilet. Breakfast was okay but the scrambled egg seemed to be undercooked to me so I didn’t have any, and there was no other choice of eggs at the buffet. I don’t approve of dogs in hotels.

Upgraded to sea view room well worth this as spacious and excellent balcony and view.

Room was clean and tidy and quite spacious but otherwise basic. The TV was appallingly small for an hotel. The doors are clunky and you can hear other doors closing - which is annoying. Breakfast was okay. Staff were friendly enough. The hotel is looking a bit tired but I understand that it’s going to be renovated in Nov 2026.

Excellent location virtually on dog friendly beach. Sea view room very strongly advised. Our only but major complaint was the mattress which should have been replaced years ago. Both sides collapsed, one side so bad it needed a rolled towel placed under it to stop you rolling off the edge.

The hotel itself looks a little old with outdated carpet and curtains and heavy doors that slam shut which is annoying when you’re trying to rest , the tv in the room was smaller than my pc monitor and the bath was so small I couldn’t lay down comfortably. On the plus side it has a beautiful garden area and is across the road from the sea front. It is also a short walk to pretty much all of the shops and the train station in the town.

Room 208 has a 4 poster bed very uncomfortable. Beautiful view with a balcony. Otherwise, room, very nice.

Lovely hotel with lovely grounds on the seafront would have been better if there wasn't heavy wind and rain but made the most of it big shout out to bar staff Freddy and Pete who came out with my mums cake singing Happy birthday

We took a weekend break and it was the first time we had taken our little dog along with us. She was very well behaved and the staff took a lot of trouble to make sure we were all comfortable. The lady receptionist who never seems to be off duty was wonderful! Always smiling and helpful and patient. The restaurant staff even made sure we could have a table at breakfast and dinner just away from the main restaurant so our dog could sit with us. We had a lovely time and we wil definitely be back. Thank you Imperial Exmouth !

As always, the Imperial offers comfort, courtesy, friendliness and consistency. In our ever-changing world these things really matter. The sea front location is still just a short walk from the charming town centre. So many small shops, cafes, restaurants to suit all tastes (and pockets) - an absolute delight for the discerning traveller.

The website states that there is no lift. On our first visit the very large gentleman receptionist directed us to the stairs and we dragged our suitcases up 2 flights to find that at the top there was a sign to The Lift. We were furious. On our second visit the same receptionist directed us to the lift which was ironic as we were in a room on the ground floor. The web site needs updating and the reception staff need educating. The breakfast buffet was hit & miss - one morning no bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and NO PLATES. Our room had only 4 sockets, all on the wall opposite the bed. We had to plug/unplug TV, kettle, hairdryer, 4 chargers - luckily I have a very long lead for my phone.

Checking in receptionists on the phone apologies but this was her boss well her boss should have instructed call me back when you have finished checking in a customer so to her boss you should know better! The receptionists polite apologies but trying to check me in and talk to her boss at the same time boss shame again receptionists couldn’t carry out her duties effectively because of call I asked to open an tab during my stay and to pay for parking again still on the phone to her boss! Later that evening went to order a drink asked to put it on my tab the bar man well a could at least smiled but no where is your card got my key for my room this should be sufficient but no ended up paying on my debit card for my wine. Table booked for 6:30pm on Friday night restaurant closed everyone queuing no information 7pm still Closed finally word from the kitchen they have got gas trouble. 7:10pm finally let into restaurant give my room number to waitress no sign on here paperwork I had book in at 3:30ish my table wasn’t laid out properly no water. The same bar man came around restaurant for drink orders ordered a bottle of wine said I wanted to put it on tab this time had key card Barman said I had not opened a tab. Whilst waiting for my wine went to see the receptionist the one what was busy on the phone with here boss this lady had not logged it let alone did one important thing that was to stamp my key card and initial it! All staff need to smile and be customer focused!

Shocking. The room was not the one we booked. Stank of urine and when we raised the issues at reception we were told that the hotel was full and that it ' is what it is '. And as it was only a one night stay we should just tolerate it. After all, the guy at reception has been there 25 years and knows how to deal with issues. Righto.

A very tired and dated looking hotel, beautiful architecture in dining room but chairs are threadbare. Room needed painting and bathroom shabby. Receptionist was not at all helpful on arrival and couldn’t answer our question about whether they served bar food that evening. They did serve bar food which was really good, decent size portion, piping hot and very tasty. Breakfast was equally as good with a good choice and all lovely and hot.

If you're looking for five star luxury, spa and swimming pool with a Michelin fine dining restaurant then The Imperial isn't for you! If you're looking for brilliant value for money with fantastic customer service from every single member of staff, delicious freshly cooked food both at breakfast and dinner - 3 course for only £20 and great choices too - drinks that aren't the normal hotel high prices, spotlessly clean rooms with sea views and balconies in the heart of the town set right in the beach then book a stay here, I can highly recommend it! Many thanks for a fantastic stay we will be back.

Lovely stay. We know Exmouth well and the location of the Imperial couldn't be better. Friendly staff, comfortable room, easy parking. Would definitely stay again next time we are that way.

It was very nice. Near the beach and the centre. Nice places to eat around the area. And nice shops. Clean room. Friendly People working there.

The outside of the building needs some attention but the room we stayed in was very spacious and clean. The restaurant and bar are very nice and I loved the high ceilings. It was in an ideal location.

Just an overnight stay before a party. Never stayed in Exmouth before, but have visited many times. The hotel is ideally placed with fabulous garden space. The beach is always a treat but a short walk from the entrance to the hotel, there’s a lovely town square/piazza surrounded by bars and eateries

Wonderful location, friendly service, superb breakfast

A hôtel of two reviews. It was friendly, efficiently run, had a good bar, was cosy and had spacious rooms. On the negative side it was threadbare and needs a lot of investment to bring it up to scratch. The buffet breakfast was adequate but it would have been so much better with hot food cooked to order. Scrambled eggs going cold are not appealing.

Great hotel. Our room was massive with a superb sea view. The evening meal was very nice as was the breakfast. The staff make this place excellent, they looked after us as usual. Great place to stay for Exeter airport night before flight. We’ll be back.

Friendly staff couldn’t do enough for you, all areas were clean and pleasant. Breakfast was enjoyable and value for money. Evening meal again fresh and good value but a limited menu. Rooms are tired but beds are comfortable and again clean . Will stay again .

The staff in all my dealing both on line and in person have been extremely helpful and efficient. reception helped me up the stairs at the rear with my bags and the lady on the desk in reception was friendly and welcoming. As were the waiting staff in the dining room.(we ate there for two breakfasts and two evening meals. the quality of the food was of a high standard and well presented. breakfast was buffet style and this was well stocked with plenty of choice of juices, cereals continental or the full English. Dinner Choice was good with a meat a fish or vegetarian vegan option,..staff asked about food allergies and plates were cleared away as soon as all diners at the table had finished .with minimal waiting for next course to appear. The communal areas were smartly decorated Bar staff efficient and friendly. the only observation i would have is that the furniture in my room was dated and had signs of wear and tear but there was plenty of starage a wardrobe , chest of draws and a dressing table two bedside cabinets and plenty of plug sockets to put chargers and my CPAP machine beside the bed without need of extention cables . there was also a powerful hair dryer and a large fan . I would happily stay at this hotel again by myself in the future it felt very safe and a home from home. the bar area and garden veranda and grounds were well tended and the gate at the bottom of the grounds leads out to the main sea front road and the beautiful sandy beach.
