Someone’s undies left in the hallway, one of our towels smelly like BO, noisy, flyscreen window was ripped, flat pillows, and someone set the fire alarm off at 4am. Building evacuated. Couldn’t wait to get out of the place the next morning. Never again.

No parking when we arrived at 9.30pm

Just disappointed there is now a charge for parking when there was no mention on the webpage I booked.

Have stayed there twice and there is no guest wifi service. Booked two rooms one did not have a fridge or towels 8( Renovating and that dusty the smoke alarm went off.

Ibis want to charge for use of the carpark in the motel complex, this is not an inner city motel it is suburban. I cannot help but wonder if the provision of parking for guests was a condition of planning approval for their build and if so why is it seen as a justifiable extra

Nice comfy bed!! $5 parking was unexpected

I was unpleasantly surprised at the fact that there was no washong basin or mirror in the bathroom. Using the basin in the room was extremely awkward. There was also no soap. The single source of light on one side of the bed was also inconvenient. Absence of lifts made it difficult to carry heavy suitcases and bags to the upper level.

Room was very cold / air conditioner did not work no extra quilts / very uncomfortable bed / very uncomfortable night / someone smoking in the room set off fire alarms so motel had to be evacuated at mid night / and yes it was warmer outside than in my room / very disappointing and uncomfortable stay

Unfortunately the room faced the road so there was traffic noise all night. There were several cockroaches in the room. Don’t think the room was cleaned well as there was dirty socks just underneath the bed.

Budget is certainly the word here. There was no hand soap for the sink and not even a teaspoon, you had to stir your coffee with a stick. Coffee cups were supplied but no glasses for water etc. The room seemed clean at first but there was dust all over the floor and what looked like drink stains and hair up the walls. The bathroom was clean, and the shower was hot and plenty of pressure. Air conditioner was fine for heating/cooling. We could not adjust the volume for the TV which was very annoying. The bed was clean and comfortable but that's where it ends. Every door in the place including the bathroom door squeaked loudly. All night you could hear doors from everywhere squeaking when people used them. All night people were in and out making loud noises in the corridors, yelling, laughing outside our door. We stayed for 2 nights and did not get any sleep. There are permanents staying at this hotel and I did not feel safe going in and out especially at night. There is a swipe key for entry in the front door, however the fire door at the other end of the hotel is open constantly, so where is the security?? Even at a budget price this place is not value for money. You get no accessories in your room, and you do not feel comfortable or safe! I would not recommend this place and intend to stay clear of it in the future.

Dirty stains on all hallway carpets.Mould in shower/toilet cubicles.No soap dispenser at handbasin.

Paper thin walls, mouldy shower and bugs crawling over the bed. Do not recommend.

Overall, the stay was fine, but the cleanliness of the room and toilet was disappointing. It would have been much more comfortable if the washroom hadn’t been stinking when we checked in. Additionally, we found hairs on the kids’ bed sheet, and there was a noticeable amount of dust under the coat. My first stay at this hotel was a good experience, which is why I chose to return but unfortunately, this time didn’t meet the same standard.

We got the key to our room but when we walked in it was not cleaned. Bed was slept in. So we went back to the reception and got another room. However I lifted the pillow from the bed and there was black hairs under it. Also black hairs in the shower drain. Not happy. The room sink didn't drain so we had to brush our teeth in the shower. The room fridge was too noisy so ended up turning that off. Breakfast was a joke. Pancake machine was broken. Toast had a use by label on it from 2 months ago so I'm guessing they had them in the freezer. Why not just get fresh bread in the morning? Its not that hard. Spreads were very limited. Only Vegemite and jam. Both in a jar so everyone will stick their dirty knives in there. Not very hygienic. Fruit provided was only some old hard mandarins. Hot chocolate was not nice either. Sorry definitely not good enough. Can not recommend.

Air conditioning did not work and only stayed on one temperature as it was set in Fahrenheit and unable to change or adjust, Unable to open window for fresh air as I was on bottom floor, very noisy next to traffic lights. Thick dust on bed head, sink was dirty , big rust spot on bottom corner area of bathroom wall , only thing clean was a fresh made bed on arrival. Floor was filthy not swept or mopped. Small Bar Fridge froze drinks and food as there was no adjustment on fridge temperature to stop freezing. Inconsiderate patrons at all hours during the night, no respect for people staying or sleeping . Had to pay an extra $10.00 for parking on the grounds . Absolutely disgusting. Place has gone down hill. Corridors smelt , mould in shower covered up with silicon. Shower sprayed water everywhere, had to use own personal towel as a floor mat to stop the water from going out shower even though I had shower head facing against wall away from door entrance.

Air conditioning worked but walls were dirty and there were cobwebs on the ceiling. No cover over the drain in the shower. Terrible odour in the bathroom. I understand it was a cheap hotel but we expected better - cleanliness should be a priority

The Mattrice had collapsed on one side with springs digging into the mattrice fabric. Pillows were terrible. Acoustic seperation from the traffic immediately outside was non-existent. Worst accommodation we have ever stayed in. You have been warned!

Husband booked us a room without reading reviews first, bless him. While everything in our room was tidy & in it's place, several design aspects/furnishings were either outdated, a little challenging, minimal or altogether absent. I did us a favor by taking a few items to compensate if needed, after reading previous reviews, eg. quilt (no spare blankets in room and heater barely working), extension cord for hubby's CPAP as power points were located further away & thankfully, our own pillows (their pillows were awful). The bathroom could best be described as a closet-sized demountable-like cavity, with nothing between shower & toilet to contain the water & that's after one manages to accomplish the 30cm (at least) step up with no grab bar to assist for safety. Not the easiest for older guests or, having to wear a moon boot like I had to at the time. Very cramped toilet area. Lint/fluff collected in nooks/edges, only 3x hangers on a wall peg for clothes, a plastic cube for a chair, no hand towel or soap for handwashing - just an all-in-one pump bottle stuck to shower wall. Pics shown on website did not correlate to our reality. Located at very busy intersection ~ prepare for traffic noise 24/7. Fortunately, we only needed one night's accommodation and perhaps we were expecting a more user-friendly layout, including what I thought were considered to be standard comforts/items - perhaps this is what $90 looks like. NB - I can not speak of the other rooms on offer.

Hot shower, comfy bed, a bit tired but clean. Cleaners need a cobweb room. Reception staff freindly. Rooms closest to main road are a bit noisy.

It was a 'budget' hotel. And the rooms were indeed, budget. In the room I had the window didn't open. PS Staff - have the window in room 204 fixed, please.

The room was particularly small, the bed was not very comfortable. There was a lot of traffic noise, the air conditioner was very dusty and didn’t work properly, the fridge wasn’t cold and was very noisy. The laundry was locked and the reception area was closed during the morning. The staff were very good and a pleasure to deal with.

Air con was not working. Tiny cabin for three people like a submarine. Closet toilet and shower not enough room to even dry yourself. Paid for breakfast for three and told not available until 7am - useless when you need an early start. Just a horrible place. Avoid like the plague. Would be overpriced at $50

Room was expected being an old Formule 1, very small with tiny bathroom, but it did the job for a few hours stopover on the way to Sydney. Location is very close off the M1, so it is very convenient. Getting a little older now, but clean and tidy.

I arrived to reception and was told they have over booked and was turned away. Have not received a refund and left stuck finding a place late at night after a 12 hour drive . Not happy

I have stayed at this hotel before. The rooms were always clean and the staff friendly. The young man on reception was busy texting when I arrived. I had to say "Hello" ... Then "Excuse Me" and show my license to get his attention to get checked in. He took my licence, finished his text then checked me in. He advised that when my friend arrives she will also need to leave her credit card for any incidentals. He continued to argue with me about any damage would be taken out of his pay if he didnt get a credit card of each person staying (credit cards can decline after the limit has been reached, a cash deposit would be a safer option). As someone who has worked for Accor myself, I know reception staff should make eye contact and smile as guest walks in and then greet them as they approach the desk. They should check you in promptly and professionally and direct you to your room. I got none of that. When I arrived to the room the seals in the bathroom were mouldy, the toilet paper rod was missing, the chair was dirty, the light above the kettle didnt work, the peep hole in the door had been filled (so I would not be able to check who was at the door before opening) the pillows need replacing with plumper pillows of higher quality and i couldnt adjust the aircon. The location is fine for me as I have a car but it is pretty far from the city and may be difficult to get around without one. Would not stay again and would not recommend to others.

Booked a room for 1 night on Expedia, the fee was $99 & I was to pay on arrival. Arrived at around 1730hrs that afternoon & paid $100.39 by card, the receptionist said there was a merchant fee. No towels in the room & no rubbish bin. The receptionist handed me 2 towels & said she would find a bin & bring it up to me. She never did. Departed 0700hrs the next morning & handed my key to the receptionist on the way out. Checked my bank statements the next day, to find I'd been charged another $99. Have been calling their office phone repeatedly for the last 3 days but cannot make contact. Managed to get through to a lady yesterday afternoon, who said she'd look into it & call me back, but never did. Have left voicemail messages & sent emails, but no reply. The customer service at Ibis Budget Newcastle (Wallsend) is atrocious, I do not recommend this property at all.

We ultimately did not stay. The key cards, to allow entry, would not work even after 3 resets at the front desk. even the key card of the receptionist would not open the door to our room. After he unlocked it with the master key, we found the bathroom floor was covered in water and the toilet seat was also covered in water. then the airconditioner had a continual knock in its operating. As no other rooms were available we went elsewhere and asked for a refund of our booking fee.

Great value for money. Convenient location. Clean and adequately equipped. Free parking and wifi. Friendly staff. On the negative side - things were missing from the room such as kettle and tv remote. Staff needed to be prompted for basic breakfast elements such as hot water.

What turned me off for second time, the bookings were mucked up at reception. Whoever does their pre-bookings if you can't provide then please don't just send back a book for double room when asked for disabilityon ground floor elderly male on 2 sticks. The room offered was upstairs, no on first landing, no, "if you aren't able then tell me where as in a hurry" - family room with upgraded costs, no we booked for ,, and not paying extra... oh well family at no extra. This mucking around allowed me 5 mins to find the room, get changed and down to a meeting for 1.30. This was 1.10 arrival. The toilet roll is great for a man standing at the loo, for kids (family room) and women it is a reach directly above - not safe. Shower head tied with string. AC remote back off with note that it goes no lower than 21 - we used a walking stick to turn it on and off as remote not working. Otherwise bed good, tea facilities great, bar fridge handy, TV good. Need to be aware that bed is against the wall so second person has to crawl down and under the bunk ladder or climb over other on the edge.

Very easy check in & all staff (reception & housekeeping) were always friendly yet professional. Will stay again. Room was very clean.

We had 4 rooms booked. There were maintenance issues with the couple of rooms to begin with (eg, Fridge on room 224 had mould, basin sink had leaks, room 222 had issues with toilet flush etc) . Anyway, the biggest trauma for us was on the second night (ie, last night of stay there). As we returned after a long day out, we found some other people in our room 224. The overall experience that the staff had checked one of our rooms out (specially when all rooms were booked under 1 name and invoice) and rented to other people when we had our luggage, some clothes, foods in the freeze is hard to believe. Eventually we only were given our luggage back and another room to spend the night (thankful for that). Worst of all was the verbal abuse our family received from the people occupying the room as we had just stepped, only to come out quickly in shock. Staff, Erin, had advised that she will speak with the manager, Bianca, by noon on Friday and get back with some sort of compensation. Unfortunately,no call back since. Please advise how we can raise a formal complaint and find out our consumer rights here (if any). Erin, the staff, didn't even log an internal incident by the 10am next day checkout time period, which was concerning.

The reception people were marvellous, friendly and helpful. Lovely to be greeted by a cheery smile.

Good location and cheap. Is a little old but clean enough. Noisy due to being near a main road

Super convenient, shopping centre is close by . Rooms were clean and housekeeping very accommodating to our needs. Room rates very reasonable. Will definitely stay in the future if we are back in Newcastle

The hotel was booked for its proximity to John Hunter hospital and met our needs. It is a budget hotel so no luxuries, but it was comfortable and clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly. It is on a corner of two very busy roads, so a quiet night's sleep is probably not an option.

Great value for money and in a very convenient location

Room was expected being an old Formule 1, very small with tiny bathroom, but it did the job for a few hours stopover on the way to Sydney. Location is very close off the M1, so it is very convenient. Getting a little older now, but clean and tidy.

Convenient to the highway for a single night break in travel between Canberra and Brisbane. Clean comfortable bed.

Rooms are very small and not really designed for 3 adults. We were there for 3 days and had to ask for fresh towels after the 2nd day. Breakfast was nice and convenient. Staff were friendly and helpful . Would stay there again but probably not with 3 adults in one room

No no no! You won’t sleep here. Everything was poor. It’s as if you’re sleeping outside next to a busy street, there is no sound proofing at all and windows aren’t sealed. There was also a constant drip in the bathroom throughout the night but the drip was inside the toilet system. Hallway was also loud. Unfriendly reception. Hotel charges you extra for everything, like parking and even checking out 30 minutes later at 10:30! The breakfast was awful! Not worth it.

20 charge for breakfast was a joke … there was only cereal that suited my taste. I paid 20 for cereal, yogurt, and milk. I felt ripped off

We ordered breakfast. Disappointed that only Granola was available and two oranges left. The fruit should have been replenished and the cereal options as people ate. Only white bread available. Why not wholemeal? I asked for an extra pillow at 2.15pm. Told yes. Not there when we got back at 7.45pm. Then no pillows available.

Shower/Toilet & sink vanity is not ideal nor convenient. $10 breakfast with extremely limited options. Uncomfortable bedding. Many electrical maintenance have not been repaired.
