The Colonies at Williamsburg

Huge apartment style hotel/resort. Lots of activities on site and close to plenty of dining and shopping.

Nice and clean. Assigned unit parking spots would be nice.

Our family of four adults had plenty of room staying at the Colonies at Williamsburg. The annoying part was having two cars and only one car could park directly out front of the unit and second car had to be parked in an overflow lot down the street. Not a big deal, but there are no sidewalks and people had to walk in the street and the street lighting was not fantastic.

Our stay was great the kids really enjoyed the outdoor water park.

Spacious renovated unit. 2 story buildings but no elevators. Very family friendly pool area with a lot of music, noise, and master of ceremonies.

There was little effort put into managing the areas around the indoor and outdoor pool, which created multiple safety hazards in the time I was there. A group of children loudly exited the indoor pool soaking wet from the gym and left the tile soaking wet and dangerous. I expected an area immediately outside of the pool to have a rubber mat and someone watching, but that was not the case. An elderly guest with a cane entered the pool minutes later and I'm glad that I brought the floor to the attention of the staff who gladly cleaned up the mess-- but it should have been handled without me mentioning. The safety railing in the outdoor pool going down into the lazy river is so wobbly as to pose a major safety hazard. You can move it fully 10+ inches in either direction and thought it was going to break if I touched it. Lastly, I watched a little girl almost drown. Her father noticed and ran to save her, pulling her out. If he hadn't seen it, there would have been a significantly different outcome. There were wet towels left on the gyn equipment where unwatches children ran around on the slick pool surface. The pool is a death trap and its only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured if it continues to be unmonitored.

Great location to Colonial Williamsburg & Busch Gardens. Units are older, no elevators...3rd floor units are tough for older folks...great outdoor pool set up for kids...to many check out procedures and duties, not like a hotel accomodations.

Nice gem. Was only looking for a place to stay for the weekend bc my son had a soccer tourny. Turns out that i picked a great kid friendly place. My kids loved the pool area and the fact that they could play tennis and basketball. They thought it was a theme park lol. The rooms were amazing and very spacious.

Staff was friendly, condos were nice. Pools were clean.

Check in was quick and easy. They send you over to concierge to pick up your parking passes and of course they try to get you to sign up for a presentation but I said we were already busy with plans and they were not pushy which I respect. Units were very clean, but the only downside is only 1 parking space is allowed and we had a 2 bedroom. The other vehicle has to park in the overflow parking which was a good little hike from where we were staying. They gave very detailed info in our little packet which included how to get to the unit, surrounding eating places, how to work the dishwasher, and outlined instructions on how to leave the unit once we left. Our unit had everything a home would have, washer and dryer, clothes basket, vacuum, broom, ironing board with iron, and the kitchen was fully equipped. Amenities were nice; outdoor and indoor pool, water park, lazy river, tennis court and basketball court. Only downside with the basketball court is it was shared with the tennis court and there was only 1 goal. So if you were playing tennis and using the basketball court at the same time you would run into one another. Overall our stay was great. Would definitely be traveling back!!!

Size & comfort of rooms were great. We requested 2nd floor unit so we would have a private washer/dryer. Kids loved the pool area & gym. Biggest drawback was that the rooms weren’t clean. I saw previous reviews about cleanliness, so brought my own cleaning supplies and cleaned unit myself upon arrival. Toilet seat had dried urine, floors were covered in food crumbs, bathroom counters were sticky from hairspray, among other things. Our family has a teenager, so we all prefer separate bedrooms for privacy that traditional hotels typically do not offer. Bedding/linens looked and smelled clean. Parking was very limited. We had to park in the overflow lot every night. (We also stayed during July 4th weekend, so maybe it was more crowded than normal.) Overall, it was good if you don’t mind doing some cleaning yourself.

This property from start to finish has never disappointed me. The cleanliness of the room, the bed was comfortable and the staff was outstanding. I look forward to another visit in the future.

Spotless rooms very clean.

The unit was comfortable and clean. It has seen a lot of use and that’s evident on the general condition of the flooring, furniture, and appliances. Check in took a really long time and there weren’t that many people. The entry foyer to our unit was filthy. It looks like the previous family before us dragged their trash along the floor leaving crumbs and bits of of food all they way from our door, down the steps, and to the outside. I informed the front desk and it was never addressed during the entirety of our stay.

We stayed in unit 21A in Maryland Court. As soon as we door to the foyer between the suits, the strong stench of meldew/mold was present. Once we entered pur unit, the smell of meldew and mold was strong. We used the unit as basecamp to drop our son off at college, so we only was in the unit to sleep. We did not use the other facilities of the resort. We were moving and shaking so much, that I didn't alert management. I'm an RCI member, who intends on returning to Williamsburg in September. The experience will make me seek out selsewhere to use my points.

My rooms were clean the living room could of used a vacuum the bathroom was not clean there was hair in the tub/shower and in the sinks I called and they were supposed to send someone to clean it and no one ever came I had to clean it my self

We will not stay here again. The suite was not well maintained; the furniture was worn and stained, there was a thick coat of dust and dirt built up on the HVAC air intake vent, and there was an odor of grease and mustiness that permeated the suite. Not a good experience.

The pool and jacuzzi were great. They have lots of activities onsite if you are interested and their recommendations for sight seeing and restaurants were good. However the property is a bit dated. We had a ground floor unit. The hallway smelled musty and the unit took a full day to air out. I am allergic to dust and mold and had to use meds the first day which was disappointing. The couch was so rundown that it was uncomfortable and we had to use two pillows each to make the chairs comfortable. Slept well on the king bed and the bathrooms were quite large. Kitchen had everything we needed. I liked having a desk for laptop and the TV worked well. Overall we enjoyed our stay but it could have been better.

Areas in the apartment had mold. The shower curtains , the dishwasher, the lamps, the walls were stained. The toilet leaked water.

The room was great. Bed was comfortable, nice shower, well equipped kitchen. Walls / Ceiling were thin. Lots of noise from neighbors. Don't like being charged extra for more towlels.

We had a 2 bedroom condo which was a lot of space. It had a fireplace, 3 TVs, a pull out sofa bed, dining table for 6, full kitchen, washer/dryer in hall, and a nice little porch with a table and chairs. Overall very nice. Smelled slightly like smoke despite being a nonsmoking room. Our only complaint was our room was across the street from the pool. We didn’t end up using the pools because it was filled with small children and there was loud music playing until 9pm. If you have smaller kids they would love it. It’s a fun, cruise type vibe. My kids are older and we were hoping for a quieter time so we weren’t prepared for that. There’s tons of activities scheduled every day but most of those are geared towards younger kids too. So despite the condo itself being very nice and spacious we wouldn’t come back. I would definitely recommend it to families with younger kids though because it’s a fun place.

The only bad thing I could possibly say if the beds were awful

Didn’t like that you could hear people above us walking around.

Great space and amenities

Large 2 bedroom 2 bath exactly as pictured. Close to restaurants, Busch Gardens. Water County and Colonial Williamsburg.

The lobby and grounds were well maintained, which created a great first impression. We've stayed at this property before, so we were surprised to find how dated the rooms have become. While the rooms are spacious, the furniture could definitely use an upgrade. For example, the clock charger was designed for an iPod or a first-generation iPad, which feels very outdated. We did encounter a few issues with our unit, but the staff was wonderful and handled everything promptly and professionally.

Needs updating. Very dark.

Accommodations were lovely. The only improvement that would have made it better for us is to be able either cast our media to TV or sign into our streaming services. The cable was cumbersome.

The King size bed mattress was worn and dipped on the side close to the bathroom. Pull out sofa bed was horrible. You could feel the bars through the thin mattress. The rooms could use an update. We stayed at Kingsgate last year, much more comfortable room. Comfy beds.

First off, the staff call at 10 pm the night before and asked was we coming. I told them yes and we will be there early. Got there at 2:30 was told to come back at 4 pm at check in. Which was fine. I go back at 4 pm and they said my room will be ready by 4:30-5. Mind you check in is at 4pm. So we get to the room at 5 and the room was still not ready. Beds out and not made. Everything was on and all the cabinets was open. So we call the front desk and they sent a supervisor to fix it. She come and straighten the room up but I still don’t feel as it was properly cleaned. So she leave and me and my kids head to the pool for hours. When we get back to the room I went to get a drink from the fridge(which is beside the stove). I could feel the heat hit me. The supervisor had left the stove on at the highest setting. All of our property and even my kids would have been at extreme danger if I didn’t notice the heat. I feel as we should be accommodated in some type of way for these horrible mistakes and how unorganized the staff was.

There was a problem with some of the rooms at the Colonies so we had to move to their sister resort down the road. Due to the inconvenience they upgraded our room to a very nice 2 bedroom suite and gave us a complimentary 2 night stay for the future.

My stay in general was very good. My only issue was the wanted me to go to a time share sales event. I wasn’t having that. I was there for relaxation that I paid for. I did not want to sit through a high pressure sales pitch.

One of the rooms was not cleaned and ready until 2-1/2 hrs after check-in. Primary suite shower did not drain. Units AC had to be repaired twice during our stay. Dining room table was damaged.

Although i've stayed here before and I would stay here again. I must say that upon arrival, the staff was not as welcoming at the front desk. A lot seemed to be happening, and there was a lot of talking and mumbling, which for someone who's coming to kind of just relax, not getting the full attention of the staff at the front desk, it didn't feel unique. As we went into the room, the atmosphere and everything around us was definitely dated. Although the kids had a great time. I would definitely recommend renovating some of the areas in the rooms, upgrading some of the furniture as it was definitely worn and by the pool side, definitely adding possibly some quick finger foods and refreshment.

This was the absolute worst stay I’ve ever experienced through Hotels. We were given a rundown, filthy, outdated room next to rooms they were actively gutting, which tells you how much in need of repair they were. We had maintenance and housekeeping open our door 3 different times saying we were listed as being checked out when we arrived in the room only 8 hours prior to that and had 3 nights left. The pool was dirty and part of it was green, but the smell was the worst part. As soon as you walked in the door it smelled of sewage. There were roaches on the bottom, and a fingernail and a band-aid floating around. The absolute worst part was the way we were treated by staff. I called down to find out why maintenance and house keeping were trying to get in and I was met with the rudest staff I have ever encountered. The manager was the rudest. Her attitude was abhorrent. She never apologized, her only reply to my question about why they were saying I had checked out was that the staff was told we were not to be disturbed. I asked a question, I never asked not to be disturbed. She should lose her job if that is all the better she can treat a paying guest. Luckily, a very nice man at Hotels was able to get us a partial refund, although I believe we were due a full refund but the manager wouldn’t budge because we didn’t check out til almost 2 after trying to scramble and find new accommodations, which ended up costing even more money. I will never ever stay at the Colonies again!!

We arrived around 9:30pm after a long day driving and at Busch Gardens. I had called the day before to confirm a two bedroom on the first floor for my disabled veteran husband was indeed reserved for us only to initially receive a 2nd floor suite that was NOT clean. Food on the table, towels on the bathroom floors and in one of the tubs, beds clearly disheveled and a pack-n-play set up in one of the bedrooms. Ther were greasy smudges on the cabinet doors, and counters. The hallway carpet had crumbly debris like construction had been done recently. When we called the front desk to complain we were told there were no other units available. We said we would be there at reception (several BLOCKS away) for a full refund then as there ws no way we would be staying. They suddenly found a freshly cleaned - within the last hour- unit on the 1st floor that we could stay in. Why not give us that from the start? The other room was roomy and clean but the master bathroom’s shower door did not latch and there were knobs missing from the shower controls. Bed was comfortable and AC worked so we got some sleep before our departure at 8:25am.

Very clean and close to everything! Staff was super helpful and friendly.

The front desk staff were polite and helpful in person, however very rude and unhelpful over phone. There was a massive leak in our room where floor was soaked entire stay and had to have an extremely loud fan going in room. Tvs did not work in neither of bedrooms. I gave three stars because though I was disrespected over phone and person was very rude when I called because the carpet was completely soaked, when I walked up to front desk I was helped by a very sweet empathic employee that tried her best to fix situation. She unfortunately was unable to find us a new room due to no rooms avaliable, but was able to get us a refund to make up for the poor conditions.

Laundry and kitchen set up were excellent. However the shower drainage was not working, so it was overflowing, it took a long time for the maintnance guy to come - so he came too late as we were leaving for our daily tour of the area. so they never fixed it. we stayed two nights and taking a shower in a pool of water was very bad.

The property was landscaped and well cared for. Our 2 bdrm / 2 bath unit was immaculate. The unit was spacious and decorated nicely. This trip did not allow us time to enjoy the beautiful pool. The location was ideal for our trip to the graduation at William & Mary. I highly recommend the Colonies at Williamsburg.

Great location and nice property.

Quiet development in western Williamsburg with easy access to 'network' highways taking one to most attractions. Spacious rooms/condo well appointed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our quiet getaway weekend. Sitting outside enjoying our coffee while listening to the soothing sounds of nature on our mosquito-free patio was just what the doctor ordered! The large walk-in shower was a bonus as well. This space provided all we needed and more. We hope to return soon.

The office staff greeted us with kindness and great customer service. We were accommodated with our request of having two rooms adjacent to each other and lucky enough to get an hour extended to late check out. The yard was perfect in the back of the suite as well as the balcony/porch was perfect. The kids absolutely loved the pool, and it was a great location near Busch Gardens! Would definitely recommend and plan to be back!

Very clean and convenient to shopping and dining plus close to Historic Williamsburg and Busch Gardens.

No food options on site but king bed was hard and queen bed was just right.

Loved the pool and the complimentary hot chocolate! A little stingy with pool toys, the noodles. Other than that, all was well.

Heated indoor pool wasn’t very warm. Loved the free hot chocolate and coffee machine
