The Village Glebe - Hostel

nice place and cheap. there is a lot of work being done on the building so lots of new things being installed. room was VERY hot to sleep with only one window though. need phone and an app to open doors which was a bit weird so make sure your phone is charged. would stay again.

The staff were wonderful, the room was excellent, the location is awesome; the parking was a breeze - especially for Sydney; and all for an excellent price. We wanted to extend, but unfortunately for us, they were fully booked.

This place is incredibly difficult to find. The street number is hidden, and there is no sign. The street number is also incorrect. When you get to the door, it tells you to go to another address. By the time you’ve figured out how to find the first address, you at least know which direction to go, which is just as well, because the second building you need to find is not even numbered, let alone signed. Luckily someone heard us wandering up and down the street counting driveways, and pointed out the building we wanted. We then started the lengthy process of trying to figure out how to get in. If you’ve seen an Indiana Jones movie, you may have some idea about how this works. Thankfully, a multi-page email provides details of the ten (yes, 10!) steps you will need to go through in order to access the building and your room. If you’re very lucky, someone might come and let you into your floor, or perhaps they’ll have propped a door open, because that step is wrong. Good luck! In case any of the 10 steps presents an impenetrable barrier to your check in, a phone number is conveniently provided, which allows you to leave a message that no one will respond to. In the room, there was an airconditioner, but no remote, so it can't be used and you have to confront Sydney's horrific humidity unaided. I have travelled all over the world and never have I encountered a hostel so determined to keep its guests out or melt them if they're unlucky enough to get in.

It was pretty clean except for some food left in a cupboard. I had a double with an ensuite. The bathroom was very clean but the smell said there was an underlying mould issue. Took longer for the hot water to heat up than my actual shower takes so the first morning I assumed it was faulty and being in a rush I had a 30s very cold shower...so be patient! Ask for a kettle and toaster when you arrive if you have this type of room as I discovered that it hadnt got them in the morning. Bed was comfortable and I was surprised by how quiet the area and the hostel were at night. The staff were very friendly and helpful. For the price I paid it was still a pretty good deal despite the imperfections!

The property is not bad. But there is no lift in the property so you have to climb up many flights of stairs. Not suitable if you have a lot of luggage.

Great secure property. Great staff, check in was excellent. However, they need to provide the very basics - no bath soap, no clothes hangers in the wardrobe, no jug (but they were good to provide one immediately upon request), no heater (in winter!) the air con did not work. Otherwise, a great place. I would return in Summer time

Unique, but typical for the area - period mansions and grounds converted to range of accommodation, from shared/hostel rooms to private ensuite rooms. Full shared kitchen facilities available, but it's Glebe Point Road, so you'll run out of days before you run out of options. One cautionary note, if outside of an evening, the possums are so active, you're likely to be showered with tree debris... = )

There’s no soundproofing at all you hear all of the noise. I was in a private room but every time the front door would open I could hear it which meant that my sleep was disrupted quite a lot. The dining services and common areas aren’t that nice either to be honest. I’ve stayed in quite a few hostels globally and this is probably The least exciting one I’ve been in.

It smelt of damp and mould and my daughter had health/breathing issues. The other guests created noise late into the night, talking on phones outside our window so we didn't sleep well. The fridge was leaking water and seemed unstable. There was no soap in the shower, which I would have expected for the cost. On a positive note, the room was clean and if I was a young person and was travelling, I think it would be a good option to stay and meet other young people. It was a good distance from Glebe shopping village and the bay.

The "Online check-in to avoid wait times" is ineffective, as you still need to visit reception for manual activation of the electronic keys. Reception was unattended from 12:30 to 13:15, leading to nearly an hour of waiting, despite having already completed the check-in online. Additionally, the bed had crawling insects (not bedbugs, but similar), and the fridge still had a frozen cockroach inside, likely from a previous spill.

I paid for a single room, staff was good and room is clean overall. However, someone banged the front door all night or the door is generally shut with loud noise, it wasn’t a good experience.

Room had a double bunk and two metal trunks under the bed. Floor looked like a crime scene photo. Unidentified stains etc Bathrooms were clean, staff were at their assigned places and friendly enough.

Check in starts at 2 & yet the reception staff said the room was “still being cleaned” at that time. No bed sheets were provided, until the “night manager” walked into the room at 1.30AM to deliver sheets. Stains all over the mattress including mould stains. There were cockroaches in communal areas and staff were generally unaccommodating and unhelpful. There were lots of other problems but these were the mains ones – definitely would not recommend staying here.

Staff is exceptionally friendly. Situated in a cute/quiet area of Sydney. A few cafes within walking distance but for a Coles/woolies it's a bit far. Beds were comfy and everything was clean. No partying/heavy drinking was going on which is nice.

I like staying at this multinational hostel surrounded by happy young people. Thanks to Diana I was able to check in without a passport. Twenty four hour reception!

I have not been discriminated in regards, my age and gender as badly, as when I was discriminated against by these people, very poor property very badly managed. And they refused to give me a refund even know I was not allowed to stay there.

They messed up our booking which made us homeless for nye. I booked it for 2 people but they told me the day before we arrive that they only had 1 bed available.They wanted us to pay another $250 for another bed, just for 1 night! which wasn’t in our budget. So I cancelled it and they said they’ll refund me but it’s been over a week and haven’t received anything, I’ve tried to contact them but got no reply.

I stayed in a private room just for a night as I had an event. Great location. Very easy to get to and from Sydney Central. It's within walking distance to a number of cafes/restaurants. .

It was a great experience to stay at the hostel. Nice area and very cool people and staff. The communication with Atakan was very easy going and fun. Would recommend it to others :)
