The Craven Hotel

Hotel wouldn’t let you check bags after stay.

I was given a ground floor room with no windows. The room looked like an old store room, painted in a dark colour and desperately needed repainting throughout. The furniture was sparse and dated. The bathroom sink was so small you couldnt get the kettle under the tap to fill it. It was so cold however there was a wall heater. Although advertised with hairdryer, there was not one in the room however one was obtained from another room. the lift did not work for those staying on upper floors, they had to carry bags up a staircase. Very disappointed.

I booked a "deluxe double" room, which was smaller than the interior of a minibus. The paintwork on the walls was falling off, mould in the bathroom. The springs in the mattress could be felt just by touch, never mind sitting or laying on the bed. The room was not soundproof, traffic, pedestrians and birds could be heard out of the window and the blind was non adjustable, so no natural light was let into the room. No towels, soap, toiletries, kettle, cups, tea coffee etc were in the room, although towels were available if we asked nicely at reception. There was a fridge, although we didnt use it. A very small wardrobe, big enough for 3 coats and a couple of pairs of footwear, but you had to climb over the bed to get to one side of the bed, as the wardrobe obscured the access to that part of the room. The "ensuite" was small, 2ft wide by 6ft long, you needed to pivot to sit on the toilet seat. No mention on the website of a cost to use the luggage room, £12 for 2 cases, the receptionist demanded to see our phone for booking receipt. A receipt that was sent to a temporary email address. It claimed we had until 3pm the following day to leave our luggage, yet the following day, we encountered a problem as the same receptionist refused to allow our luggage back into the room, saying our booking was for "one day only". A story which changed twice, from 1 day, to 24hrs, to the day you checked in only. A very poor experience and i would discourage anyone from using this hotel.

You get what you pay for. I paid for a cheap hotel and got one. The bathroom was so small you could barely stand in it. The drain wasn’t working and I had to call twice for it to get fixed. The hotel room key had to be replaced every time I came back (and yes I kept it away from my phone). And then one time I waited at the front desk which had a “Back in 15 minutes” sign for nearly a half hour. But for the price I paid, could I really have expected much better?

We booked a double bed room( sleeps 2 ) we were extremely cramped, the mattress was 2 inches thick and very uncomfortable, the blanked given was barely enough to cover 1 person let alone 2 ( we are not big people) the bathroom has NO standing room NONE had to open the door to use the sink, faucet had never been cleaned or polished, it was severely tarnished, broken towel racks, shower was half the size of a phone booth Broken shower head and it pooled up with water so fast it almost overflowed with a 2 minute shower. Walls are paper thin we could hear everything and everyone inside and outside, street noise was very bad all night, we could even hear the receptionist talking, never saw a breakfast area that shows in the photos ,the entrance/ lobby does not look like the pictures shown, no air conditioning which made the room very stuffy. The walls in the room are extremely dirty along with the elevator it was disgusting, looked like it had never been whipped down. The ONLY reason we stayed was because we flown in from the states and had been awake for over 30 hours by the time we were able to get into the room, we were exhausted so we tolerated it for 1 night. NEVER AGAIN. Complete let down for our first stay in London. We ended up getting another room elsewhere for the remainder of our stay. We travel internationally often and this is by far the worst room we have ever had.

The main reason is air conditioner is not working.

Weekend break. Would have liked to have a kettle in room. It was advertised on the website.

The pictures of the room and its aesthetic are not true; the hotel only uses part of the building shown. The pictures of the rooms and restrooms are inaccurate. My room (106) had a terrible toilet with no space between the hand basin and the toilet; you would literally have to sit sideways to use it. The toilet was very tiny, a detail not included in the hotel room pictures. There was no room service as claimed. We spent two nights, and our room was never cleaned once not even to dispose of waste or change the bins. Both the room and restroom bins were never emptied. Zero percent value for my money; if I could, I would have checked out. The hotel needs to do better. You'll be constantly awakened by the noise and vibration of doors closing next to your room. The room also lacks a functional night light; you either sleep in the dark or with the full light onthose are your only options. In all, it was a terrible experience. I paid less for a 3-star hotel in Spain and enjoyed my stay there. Craven should inform prospective customers of the true condition of their property with well-detailed pictures.

Lots Of Problems , I asked about Leaving suitcases they said I had To Book which was going to Cost £25, This is Ridiculous Most Hotels will look after Luggage with No Extra Charge , The Room itself was shocking it was Supposed to be Delux -It was Nothing More than a Dingy Bedsit , No Tea making Facilities , No Remote Control for TV , bathroom was So Small You Couldnt use the Toilet without Hitting the Sink , There was a Heater Pump outside the Bedroom Window Making Sleep Imposssible , It Felt Like some of the Floor Boards were broken as they moved when walked on , This Hotel Needs Inspecting

Paid for 3 nights and stayed for one. The pictures are incredibly deceptive. The room wreaked of rubbing alcohol and mold which caused headaches and nausea. We kept the window open and it still didn’t help. The shower didn’t drain, the walls had smashed bugs on it, it was so small we couldn’t walk around our bed, there was a hole in the wall that was covered by the headboard. The small tv that was the size of a laptop screen didn’t work. Also didn’t come with any amenities. Staff was rude to incoming guests. Do not stay here. The only positive to this place is location. We ended up going to another hotel further away. Save yourself time and money and book a different hotel

This place is an absolute dump and not worth the money spent. I usually stay at the Park Grand nearby but it was booked out so I tried this place as the pictures made it look modern. Pictures were very deceptive. Room was tiny nowhere to open baggage... Everything worn and dirty stains all over the walls and floors, no working tv, no air con, room was so hot and stuffy I barely slept. Bathroom awkwardly designed like a closet, couldnt sit on toilet properly... Rooms noisey, one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in barely worth 30 pound a night let alone the 129 the charged me.

Dirty.

Filthy, cold, bedding and towels smelled of damp. One one, very thin (and smelly) pillow. The dust falling out of the extractor fan in the bathroom when in use left a cover of thick grey particles over the sink and toilet. Only one towel and no bath mat (floor got wet from the shower, so was slippery) small sachet of shower gel was all that was provided. Absolutely no care taken of the room.

Dirty t-shirt drying over wall light, red bull can and water bottles tops under bed, toilet leaking and smelly. Carpet looked like has never been vacuumed. Used toilet paper over wardrobe, pillow cases inside out, back of tv very dusty. Could just go on and on here ....

Avoid at all costs: filthy room, broken room lock (staff didn’t think was an issue and surprised when I raised it), no towels (had to ask), no soap, damp smell, busted mattress, broken TV and window closure. Absolutely awful.

Room grubby stains on walls pillows stained lift dirty damp smell in room. Unable to open blind or window. Bed uncomfortable left with back pain. Shower dirty foul smelling unable to use. Staff indifferent. On the plus side location good lots of places to eat lots of pubs and shops. Walking distance to popular attractions if you are up for walking mile or two or Paddington st half a mile.

The room was disgusting. The bed sheets were clearly dirty, the carpet was filthy, the walls were stained, the entire bathroom was unclean with no soap, shower gel, or shampoo provided. The shower was dangerous. It suddenly goes from cold to boiling hot and never settles into a consistent temperature. I stayed for two nights and the room was never attended to or clean sheets provided. I had to request replacement toilet roll. On the whole, the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel.

I got 'upgraded' from a single room, to a double. No kettle, tea/coffee supplies or hairdryer despite the room supposedly having these when booking. Window propped open by a block and wouldn't shut properly, so quite noisy.

The deluxe double room was no bigger than a large wardrobe! If I had swung a cat I would have smashed its head in !! The shower was tiny , I’m a large framed man and just squeezed into it , once in I couldn’t move , the shower head was fixed and aimed at the ceiling, I had to remove it from it’s cradle to get myself wet , the tv was no bigger than a mobile phone , it definitely needs to be decorated , the paint was aged and grubby , I feel the description on your website is very misleading , on the plus side , it was warm and clean

Comfortable enough for a 1 night stay but very small room and the bathroom was unbelievable tiny. If a person was of a large frame they would not be able to fit in to go to the toilet or get in/out of shower. Couple of mini-supermarkets across the road to get provisions from.

I got there early and told to come back at three, came back and had to wait over 15 minutes for someone to come and check me in. The room was small and the shower was even worse because you had to manoeuvre yourself to get in. The mattress was terrible, could not get comfortable and had hardly any sleep, I will never go there again and would not recommend it to anybody!!

Hotel was a dive, damp everywhere, no power sockets near the bed, bed was like sleeping on neat springs, the shower leaked everywhere and doesn’t drain it turned into a bath

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in and I’ve travelled far and wide. Electric sockets hanging off the wall. Window lodged open with piece of wood. Room in a disgusting state. I threw the “key” back on the reception and told them to stick it and went somewhere else. Absolutely awful

Don’t book it unless you have to, you can’t use the toilet without hitting the sink or you have to let the door open , also the shower is tight you can’t even clean your body properly. The bed wasn’t clean as well as the pillow have stains and hair. The location was good , it’s close to paddington station

the overall experience was poor the room definitely needs a re paint as it is runned down. The bed is uncomfortable the walls are grubby and the bathroom was ridiculously tiny you didn’t even have space to sit on the toilet as the sink was practically on top of you- aswell no hot water from the shower just pure coldness! Location - great, room-clean; there was no hairdryer, but we got one upon request at the reception. The was also no tea kettle in the room to boil water; there is very little space in the shower but we fit in, the water is good, maybe there could be as many shampoo packets as there are nights of sleep...there was no soap or shower gel... could use more towels.

Nice people. Great Area. Accomodations were lovely. Communicative staff and very helpful and accomodating. This place let us check in speedily, check on us throughout the stay and the facility was nice enough.

This hotel was truly awful. The springs on my bed were completely broken, the hot water didn’t work in the shower, i wasn’t provided a towel and the room had stains on the carpet and door that looked like blood. The staff were extremely unhelpful and didn’t seem to care. Don’t stay here.

It was so friendly caring from the start!!!the receptionist (IwishIaskedhisname!)was so caring and understanding!!!we travelled with a baby so he made sure that our room suitable for this-on 1rst floor, warm,big enough with easy reachable facilities!!we are so thankful and pleased!!!

It is not 5 stars hotel, you cannot expect that much, however, the hotel has good location, there are 2 underground stations, some restaurants and grocery stores around that place. It is very convenient. If you are looking for clean, and convenient hotel to stay, I strong recommend.

Short walk from the underground and lots of dining options. Hotel is good enough for london considering the price.

Room simply wasn’t clean. The bedding was fine, but debris and loads of dust under and around the beds. Shower very moldy. Front desk was very friendly, good location, but £80 still felt like too much. Very very small rooms. No tv remote so no TV.
