I wasnt advised until after I booked that there were ongoing renovations. Front of hotel covered in netted scaffold and strong smell of paint everywhere. No bar or restaurant and cramped improvised breakfast room. Only instant coffee sticks. Bed was directly facing room door and against wall. not ideal.

Staff were very helpful, and a good english breakfast is available along with cereals and such. Far ends of the hotel are WiFi blackspots - so if this is important, try and get closer to the centre. There's a lot of renovation going on at the moment - so sections are closed/not available. Free parking is available, but very limited. There is a large P&D carpark opposite

Hotel has obviously come a long way, rooms and reception looks great, hallways and bar need a recarpet which is coming and scaffolding on front will come down. Will be a great hotel as soon as it's finished, great staff, really helpful. Car park is small but there's free parking opposite overnight and you can move your car in the morning it's fine. Would recommend

Was the more reasonable option when booked, however received a message to say hotel was being refurbished. On arrival it was covered in scaffolding and smelled of paint. Restaurant and bar were closed as a result. We were allocated a refurbished twin room which was clean any comfy enough although the room was really hot. Breakfast was in an old conference room and was either continental or full English. Both fine, no complaints. Hopefully the refurbishments won't take much longer as it has the makings of a decent hotel.

Expedia did not tell us this property was under dvelopment when we booked. The room was fine, but there were no other facilities on site except breakfast. Thankfully. Barrow is a fairly dead town although we still had fun there. The staff were friendly too so that was a bonus.

On night stay for a football game. Hotel is undergoing refurbishment and so the front is covered in scaffolding and the halls and stairways are certainly more than a little tired That said the staff were exceptionally friendly, the room itself was clean and comfortable, the Wi-Fi was strong, the shower was hot and the breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay here again

Bedroom was spotlessly clean and bright with new fittings and very efficient shower. Corridor on second floor also very clean with new carpet. Breakfast offered a good selection on self-service and hot food to order. Reception very clean and efficient with lift to the second level. Still some modernisation work going on including a new carpet required for the stairs.

Arrived late evening and was met by a very friendly receptionist, who sorted out everything very quickly. The property is being upgraded and therefore has building going on, how's the room was of a really good standard and very clean. I was very impressed. The breakfast was good and had a good choice. Will use again and definitely recommend it.

The room itself was fine. The hotel in general was like something from The League of Gentleman. We were short a cup in the room so went to reception around 11pm where there was a very strong smell of cigarette smoke. The carpets in the corridors are stairways are quite stained/dirty. At breakfast (strong smell of cigarettes in reception again) it became apparent that people had been waiting for food for quite some time, one person sent their food back before it was cold. There was a chef looking chap in a flap and the poor lady waiting on was clearly distressed at the situation. There seemed to be a lack of experienced management presence at the hotel and whatever had happened was being particularly poorly handled. No issues with the room, but the overall experience was a calamity.

The check in experience was perfect, the 24/7 check in made us feel we didnt have to rush to get to the hotel. Accomodating towards my assistance dog who stayed with us. Bed was extremely comfy, there was a stain on the sheet but it was clean.

Newly renovated room. Comfortable bed and quiet place. The only thing is we missed the breakfast as they only serve until 9 am. We thought it’s 10 am like other hotel. LOL. Otherwise it’s really good stay and will definitely come back again.

Great value for money and in good condition. The only negative was how small the ‘double’ bed was which was also pushed up right against a wall. Fine for 1 person but very snug for 2.

It met our requirements; staff very friendly and responsive (receptionist Molly even working gamely through feeling plainly unwell); obviously refurbishment isn't complete yet but that did not impact our stay. Breakfast better than expected - hot food good and plentiful, continental offerings fine if arranged in quite a basic way, but no complaints!

The staff were all wonderful. So friendly and helpful. The lady who was on the night time reception was just amazing! Because of the staff, I would book again. Yes, the hotel badly needs refurbished, but renovations were being done. I look forward to seeing the place when they are completed. Breakfast was good.

Booked a family room for a one night stay.... Hotel itself a very nice building, very friendly staff.... The room as soon as we opened the door we were taken a back by the smell of cigarettes... (Corridors and other rooms within the hotel did not smell of this.) reported to reception staff who only apologised and assured us that she witnesses people going out for cigarettes ( not that made any difference) we decided to not take it any further and instead open all of the windows.... Freezing cold night in January would get rid of the smell you would think. However it did not. Couldn't wait to leave the next morning. Very disappointing for a family room with younger children staying. 4 drinks ordered from the bar all with flat mixers, no draft on at all .... A case of drink it or don't attitude from the night porter.

Staff were very helpful, and a good english breakfast is available along with cereals and such. Far ends of the hotel are WiFi blackspots - so if this is important, try and get closer to the centre. There's a lot of renovation going on at the moment - so sections are closed/not available. Free parking is available, but very limited. There is a large P&D carpark opposite

Hotel has obviously come a long way, rooms and reception looks great, hallways and bar need a recarpet which is coming and scaffolding on front will come down. Will be a great hotel as soon as it's finished, great staff, really helpful. Car park is small but there's free parking opposite overnight and you can move your car in the morning it's fine. Would recommend

Expedia did not tell us this property was under dvelopment when we booked. The room was fine, but there were no other facilities on site except breakfast. Thankfully. Barrow is a fairly dead town although we still had fun there. The staff were friendly too so that was a bonus.

On night stay for a football game. Hotel is undergoing refurbishment and so the front is covered in scaffolding and the halls and stairways are certainly more than a little tired That said the staff were exceptionally friendly, the room itself was clean and comfortable, the Wi-Fi was strong, the shower was hot and the breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay here again

I wasnt advised until after I booked that there were ongoing renovations. Front of hotel covered in netted scaffold and strong smell of paint everywhere. No bar or restaurant and cramped improvised breakfast room. Only instant coffee sticks. Bed was directly facing room door and against wall. not ideal.

Bedroom was spotlessly clean and bright with new fittings and very efficient shower. Corridor on second floor also very clean with new carpet. Breakfast offered a good selection on self-service and hot food to order. Reception very clean and efficient with lift to the second level. Still some modernisation work going on including a new carpet required for the stairs.

The hot is having improvement works being done. The rooms are well presented and have everything needed. The bed was okay, I didn't particularly find the bed comfortable but could have been me. Breakfast the first day was fine though they did get my breakfast wrong, a couple of others were similar, the second day was fine. You can still see the areas still to be updated but does look like well on the way. The staff were friendly and helpful.

It met our requirements; staff very friendly and responsive (receptionist Molly even working gamely through feeling plainly unwell); obviously refurbishment isn't complete yet but that did not impact our stay. Breakfast better than expected - hot food good and plentiful, continental offerings fine if arranged in quite a basic way, but no complaints!

The room itself was fine. The hotel in general was like something from The League of Gentleman. We were short a cup in the room so went to reception around 11pm where there was a very strong smell of cigarette smoke. The carpets in the corridors are stairways are quite stained/dirty. At breakfast (strong smell of cigarettes in reception again) it became apparent that people had been waiting for food for quite some time, one person sent their food back before it was cold. There was a chef looking chap in a flap and the poor lady waiting on was clearly distressed at the situation. There seemed to be a lack of experienced management presence at the hotel and whatever had happened was being particularly poorly handled. No issues with the room, but the overall experience was a calamity.

The room was clean and looked as if it had been recently renovated, comfy bed. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and very nice. Staff are friendly and very attentive. The hotel is currently undergoing much needed external renovation works. The stair carpet badly needs renewed.

I was here for business and this hotel was perfect, lovely clean room and breakfast included (which was great!) Only recommendation is to bring earplugs, seagulls can be noisy through the night in summertime

The free parking outside (not in the taxi rank) was great, especially for a town centre. Receptionist was super helpful pointing this out to us when we arrived, as the attached car park was full. Hotel currently undergoing renovations but they did point this out everywhere and was also aware from the reviews too and room was pretty warm on the evening, although they did provide a fan this was the only reason for not giving 5 stars. Free breakfast was good (despite the not-so-great reviews of it) staff were amazing, so friendly and accommodating, could help yourself to toast/bread, pastries, cereal, apple/orange juice, yoghurts, apples/oranges and then order a hot dish from the main menu, we got a vegetarian breakfast which I chose scrambled egg, my partner poached and we got a hash brown, half a mushroom, tomato and vegan sausage. To say the breakfast was free and the double room was £60 on a last minute Saturday night booking, including parking and breakfast for 2 I couldn't complain at all. Good value for money, decent selection, lift in the hotel too which wasn't expecting. I do understand peoples comments on the communal areas, the breakfast area could be improved with some small improvements such as investing in proper tables/units to lay the buffet out on but also would the added cost for the hotel outweigh the added nicety to a customer experience, i am unsure
