Very welcoming staff, friendly, polite, helpful, couldn’t be nicer & the food was great! Bar, was well stocked, comfortable with the outside areas looking very welcoming, great for a summer stay. The room was nicely decorated, but a small double means a small double, the bed felt tiny. If you are booking in get a larger room.

Stayed at the Sun solo for a couple of nights. Great location in terms of access to the mountains and close to shops/pubs. Very welcoming staff, clean and comfortable bedroom with great views. Breakfast was strong - plenty of options, full english was delicious. Pub within the hotel was great - roaring open fire to heat up after being out on the mountains, loads of local ales. Would definitely stay again, and would def recommend. Thanks for having me! Cheers, Hugh

Basic but characterful hotel, room very warm in winter with good views. A little old-fashioned but in many respects charmingly so. Excellent breakfast in the more modern conservatory extension. A lot of steps although that was a trade-off with the views from the room. Good at the price since much in Coniston is quite expensive. Shame the restaurant wasn't operational in the evening on this visit, but as the staff pointed out, it's only a short walk to Coniston's centre where there is plenty of choice. Reasonable amount of parking on site.

Very pleasant. The bar was well stocked. The staff were all very amicable. The only downside was that there w was no wifi in our room.

This was basic but did the job. I found the lack of attention toward customer experience disappointing. There was no ambience/ background music at breakfast making it all quite awkward and very quiet. No effort was made to mop up the table and floor from the leaking conservatory roof at breakfast, making one of the tables and chairs for breakfast unusable, which I found surprising. The service was slow (magnified by the poor ambience) and when it did arrive my beans arrived cold and needed returning for heating. My shower temperature could not be regulated, but was constantly very hot as opposed to cold and so could be used dipping in and out. Cleanliness was poor, however I was expecting something more rough and ready from the pictures and so wasn’t surprised. A fantastic location and good pub evening environment and atmosphere.

Great stay. Good location to walk the Old Man of Coniston and visit the Ruskin Museum and village. Parking on site. Lots of choice for breakfast options. Breakfast is available for a short window. Excellent choice of ales on the bar and friendly staff. Would stay again.

A decent place to stay! The room was fine, if a little cold, but the additional heater warmed it up well. The bed was comfy and the breakfast was excellent. The staff were very friendly and I had a lovely pint in the bar. Coniston is well worth a visit and The Sun is definitely worth staying at.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Spotlessly clean, cosy and comfortable pub/restaurant/hotel with its own parking. A wonderful terrace with great views to enjoy whilst having a afternoon/evening drink. Great spot for a short stay in the lakes.

We took our 13 year old dog with us and were unsure how he would cope with the stairs as we were on the second floor. As it turned out he was fine and I have to say, the staff were so welcoming and friendly, it was a pleasure to stay at the Sun and would definitely go back in the future. Everything was clean and tidy with a good level of accessories in the room.

Perfect for a last minute overnight stay in the lakes. Picked as it was the ideal location to the walk we planned. Room was small, but was perfect for what we needed. Very clean, all the required facilities, and the staff were amazing. Breakfast was also delicious.

Absolutely disgusting, the most dirty hotel I've ever stayed in, bedding was stained on arrival, kettle was black inside, smell was horrendous(food), the noise from the plumbing was like being on a shooting range, honestly the worst experience ever ruined our weekend as we went the next morning as couldn't face another night.

Fabulous, cosy Hotel. Clean, comfortable and dog friendly. The staff here are so friendly, helpful and genuinely can't do enough for you. Had the best nights sleep-the bed was so very comfortable. The breakfast and the food in the bar is delicious, plentyful, well presented and a great choice of menu. Our only criticism is there are no outdoor bins to dispose of used doggy bags. We will definately be going back though.

It was a comfortable place. On arrival it took a while to check in due staff busy serving pub customers. Our room (6) was right at top and it takes a bit to negotiate the stairs with luggage and poor knees!! But as the one and only staff pointed out that the view is excellent. Couldn’t fault the breakfast or the service. Hotel is not too keen you eating your own food outside in the garden!! Be warned!! Shower good but the toilet filling tank was faulty and I was woken up by the noise of continuous water flaw, I did find temporary solution and hotel said they know about it and are dealing with it. It is steep walk up from the little shopping ares so be aware!!

We stayed he a couple of years ago and it was a totally different experience, this time although the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was very disappointing! The shower was very difficult to use and the toilet wouldn’t always flush properly but the most disappointing thing was the actual cleanliness of the room, it obviously hadn’t been cleaned properly for some time, cobwebs everywhere and the blinds were thick with dust!

The Sun is a fine hotel. Our room was comfortable if a bit small. The bonus was windows on two sides which meant more light and ventilation. The breakfast was good, but not outstanding. Overall the is a fine value for the price and I would use them again.

The Sun is in an amazing location overlooking the beautiful village of Coniston. It is also a stunning old building, full of character and charm. Tha staff cant do enough for you.

The only criticism i have is too late for booking in and on a personal note i think 08:30 is a little late for breakfast. Beside that i found the place fantastic. Great accommodation and friendly staff and ideally situated for exploring the lake district.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Beautiful location, room was lovely and the staff very attentive. We had a very comfortable night's sleep, and breakfast was high quality, hot, and beautifully presented.

This was basic but did the job. I found the lack of attention toward customer experience disappointing. There was no ambience/ background music at breakfast making it all quite awkward and very quiet. No effort was made to mop up the table and floor from the leaking conservatory roof at breakfast, making one of the tables and chairs for breakfast unusable, which I found surprising. The service was slow (magnified by the poor ambience) and when it did arrive my beans arrived cold and needed returning for heating. My shower temperature could not be regulated, but was constantly very hot as opposed to cold and so could be used dipping in and out. Cleanliness was poor, however I was expecting something more rough and ready from the pictures and so wasn’t surprised. A fantastic location and good pub evening environment and atmosphere.

It was a comfortable place. On arrival it took a while to check in due staff busy serving pub customers. Our room (6) was right at top and it takes a bit to negotiate the stairs with luggage and poor knees!! But as the one and only staff pointed out that the view is excellent. Couldn’t fault the breakfast or the service. Hotel is not too keen you eating your own food outside in the garden!! Be warned!! Shower good but the toilet filling tank was faulty and I was woken up by the noise of continuous water flaw, I did find temporary solution and hotel said they know about it and are dealing with it. It is steep walk up from the little shopping ares so be aware!!

Perfect for a last minute overnight stay in the lakes. Picked as it was the ideal location to the walk we planned. Room was small, but was perfect for what we needed. Very clean, all the required facilities, and the staff were amazing. Breakfast was also delicious.

Stayed at the Sun solo for a couple of nights. Great location in terms of access to the mountains and close to shops/pubs. Very welcoming staff, clean and comfortable bedroom with great views. Breakfast was strong - plenty of options, full english was delicious. Pub within the hotel was great - roaring open fire to heat up after being out on the mountains, loads of local ales. Would definitely stay again, and would def recommend. Thanks for having me! Cheers, Hugh

Great stay. Good location to walk the Old Man of Coniston and visit the Ruskin Museum and village. Parking on site. Lots of choice for breakfast options. Breakfast is available for a short window. Excellent choice of ales on the bar and friendly staff. Would stay again.

Fabulous, cosy Hotel. Clean, comfortable and dog friendly. The staff here are so friendly, helpful and genuinely can't do enough for you. Had the best nights sleep-the bed was so very comfortable. The breakfast and the food in the bar is delicious, plentyful, well presented and a great choice of menu. Our only criticism is there are no outdoor bins to dispose of used doggy bags. We will definately be going back though.

A lot of steps although that was a trade-off with the views from the room. Good at the price since much in Coniston is quite expensive. Shame the restaurant wasn't operational in the evening on this visit, but as the staff pointed out, it's only a short walk to Coniston's centre where there is plenty of choice. Reasonable amount of parking on site.

Fantastic Old Building that the staff are doing there best to maintain, but you can see some of the age here and there. But overall charming. Ran out of some key food items while we were there forcing us to eat out. Which was a mistake as some nearby restaurants were so good once samples there was no question of eating in house again. The main think was the staff overall was brilliant and the bar first class. Would stay again and highly recommend!
