Port-O-Call Inn

Would have an extra star if it wasnt for the awkwardness of getting out of the parking area.

Parking is quite limited at this hotel. The parking lot is smaller and not well equipped for larger pickup trucks

We were greeted by a welcoming daddy long legs on the wall. The room was reasonably clean unless you looked under the beds. The burn marks on the table gave it a rustic feel. The stick in the open sliding window gave a faint sence of security. The premium HVAC system included a fan on the desk and an AC unit on the floor with a hose out the window. We had the VIP suite on the second floor closest to the road for maximum noise. The courtyard has a large non-functioning fountain.

Place was clean and really nice and for a fair price! Their water fall was broken and was being repaired but all the same the yard was amazing! Would definitely go back!

As far as motels go, not too bad. It’s right by a highway so it can be a bit noisy. There is a portable AC unit in the rooms. We were quickly moved to another room because the first smelled of cigarettes. I felt like the rooms were clean, and if we needed anything the front desk was quick to help. Comfortable beds and pillows. It’s a 15 ish minute walk along the harbour to downtown Nanaimo.

Aircon is portable unit, wedged in a corner next to the window/bed so took the room a long time to cool down, and also noisy. Despite the no smoking signs someone was clearly smoking pot in the hallway in the middle of the night, which smelled strongly INSIDE our room. Not great especially for our young kids.

Lovely staff, the garden in the middle is quite zen.

The staff was super friendly and the room was nice size. It feot very cranped with two queen beds inside of it though. However, there was a mini fridge and microwave in the room as well. The garden was a nice view and the cable box had quite a few channels. I liked that the sink is seperate from the bathroom as it's easier to get ready. It's noisy because it's located right off the main street so you hear traffic very early in the morning.

The room was very clean. The staff were very Amazing.

Outside is super cute and the staff was really nice, but the inside of the property is very run down and there was black mold all over the ceiling. Especially in the bathroom. Bathroom mat was covered in mold. Only stayed for 1 night to catch an early ferry

Staff were very friendly and the room I stayed in was super clean. Housekeeping was great. Pretty decent price! The parking wasn’t too bad. Has air conditioning which is super nice! Would definitely recommend!!

Clean and inexpensive.

It had bed bugs. I was covered in bites for weeks.

The room was dirty hairs on the bed sheets the quilt was dirty, hair in the bath tub the room stunk like sweat. The pictures on this site do not look like that. They would not refund my money. There was one small towel only. This place is disgusting i slept with my clothes on. Never will i book this way again.

Bed bug traps under legs of the bed, filled with dried stuff--had to be cleaned, No warm water in shower-hot/cold. Could not use for 6 days. Fridge leaked & froze my food/milk. (Could not use). Dirt inside cupboards & microwave. No coffee machine as advertised. I was offered a different room for last two days. On entry, the fridge had been unplugged and was leaking from freezer tray. The bathroom tap not attached to sink. On my last day, my window had been opened to accommodate a portable air conditioner hose to a flimsy screen. I arrived to see it had fallen onto my bed, leaving my room open & unsecured until I arrived at 8 pm that evening. I took video & photos of all the issues & presented them to the staff. I was told that because I had already paid, there would be no deduction from my room amount, despite all the issues. I was offered 1/2 off price to spend an extra night in the hotel--After 8 days of issues--Solid No. Although they bought the hotel on May 1st, in my view, no room should've been opened until all issues were fixed. I would've moved out the 2nd day, but I was there for an emergency situation and didn't have time to deal with looking for another room elsewhere. The staff member was lovely and apologetic and tried to fix what was wrong, but the plumbing issues were too serious. Lastly, housekeeping was cringey. The second room was cleaner, but it still gave me the eeby-jeebies. I do not recommend until all issues fixed.

Very clean and comfy beds!

Room is not clean and tidy. Worst service we wait there for 2 hour to return the key and also called so many times but no one answered the call and no one is there were soo late because of them. Very very bad service

Overall good cheap property to stay at for a few nights. The biggest problem was the loud open exhaust motorcycles speeding by the hotel at all hours of the day and night on Terminal Ave North.

For an older motel style Inn the conditions were awesome. The beds were comfy. The rooms clean. The kitchenette had what we needed and the TV had channels. We were in town for a sporting event and it was what we needed for the weekend.

Photos looked nice, but they were misleading. Had to shoulder-check the door to open it every time, and I’m a fairly big/strong guy; my wife could not open the door. The bed was the only halfway-decent part of the stay, and it was halfway-decent. The floorboards were all coming up, I scraped my foot several times. Every piece of furniture/surface was dented or broken, even the bathtub had a few big gouges in it. There were wood screws sticking out of the walls, affixed to nothing but the wall. The restaurant on site doesn’t open until after checkout time, the next closest restaurant is McDonald’s, an 11-minute walk. They mention housekeeping online, we did not experience this, our room was untouched. Will not return, do not recommend.

We arrived in Nanaimo later than planned so i called the hotel a couple time to let them know we'd be late, all times noone answered. We arrived at hotel checked in and went to the room, we had an extremely hard time opening the door. I requested extra pillows when i booked online, but there was only 2 pillows. My husband called yhe front desk several times, all uneventful so he went to front desk to get th extra pillows. I tried turning tv on, didnt work. My husband called front desk again, no answer so he went up to let them know. Bed was uncomfortable. Sink leaked. Grounds were a mess and dirty. We will never stay there again, nor would we recommend this place. I tried dropping room cards at 8:45am at front desk but it was locked. I seen a female and tried to get her attention without luck.

The secondary deadbolt on the door didn't work and the door was hard to open and close.

This hotel is ok for a quick stopover. We could see daylight around the door so it is not very soundproof and combined with traffic it was noisy. Room was small…barely room for our luggage. Hotel is just alright.

My husband arrived at 2 am after waiting for a very long delay with the ferry and was welcomed with locked doors and the open sign turned off he proceeded to call the number and after the 3rd attempt someone finally answered and was told sorry they were in the bathroom

Great location, great staff

I went to check in and I waited to be told they were waiting for housekeeping and to come back later. I couldn't come back later because I was playing in a tournament and didn't finish till midnight. To drive there to find it closed and I had no place to stay. I had to sleep in my vehicle. This was not acceptable. Terrible service

Front desk staff was absolutely outstanding way to go girls!!!!

There was no 24 Hour service for someone at the front desk on the weekend. We drove down from Port Hardy after a hockey game so we checked in a bit late and after my kid had a shower We realize that there was no towels in the room. The TV didn’t work. Nobody at the front desk to get assistance from and the area is very noisy with people partying outside. Nobody was clearly monitoring the place.

Did an early checkout on a 3 night stay booked through Expedia. Talked to the hotel Manager who said as long as Expedia confirmed and was ok with an early checkout that a refund for the third night would be done. Talked to the Manager on the second day and my son went to the desk and checked out. Expedia phoned and emailed and the hotel said they had no record of an early checkout and were not informed of any such update. This is categorically false as I talked with the hotel Manager on the early check out day. When my son arrived home, the front desk had only given him a print out of the full 3 night stay charged (my son only stayed the first night), there was no notation of an early checkout. This was supposed to be a pay later on checkout stay but the hotel charged all 3 nights up front upon check in. I called the hotel and left a message for the Manager to sort out a refund and have not heard back. I would not recommend this hotel.

We were in Nanaimo for a ball tournament. We're gone from 8 till 8 so the room is just for crashing until the next day of games. We were looking for clean and inexpensive (since we're not spending any time other than bedtime) and the Port O Call has been our choice for a few years now. The rooms are small but the beds are comfortable. Friendly front desk staff do their best to get you checked in quickly. It is in a busy urban area so bring ear plugs, not the Inn's fault people drive by loudly. :-) We happened to visit during a heat wave so the AC struggled a little but we slept well enough.

Had a little trouble with the check in getting the correct room, and the key to work with the room, but the staff was incredibly responsive and helpful in fixing the issue! They were great! That is not a complaint at all…quite the opposite, they were great!!

Called numerous times, Precheckin they didnt answer. Door lock hard to open. Coffee packs unwrapped. Sink drain leaks. Husband wenr to the front desk back door because they wouldn't answer phone. Requested extra pillows when I booked online and they weren't in room. Husband went again to bad door of hotel request the pillows, as they didnt answer the phone again. Husband went again to say tv didn't work. Room was small. Bed was uncomfortable. I was shocked by the lack of maintenance outside and on grounds.. We definitely will not stay again and will not recommend this hotel to anyone. We stayed sept 27 and 28th and were charged $168.20 extra for unknown reasons; I will try call them again Oct 2 to see why.

The price was reasonable, the motel is pretty aged, no air-conditioning. The room next to us had a prostitute staying with 2 or more men coming and going. Just a seedy area.

Port O Call was close to the BC ferry terminal - once we found the correct "north" location.

This is place isn't so cheap anymore and is quite rundown. Damaged walls, unfinished repairs, broken fixtures, microwave from the 80's, no coffee maker. Garbage on hotel ground, moldy/dirty patio furniture. Friendly staff

Front desk wasn’t friendly. Told restaurant was closed the day I checked in but it’s permanently closed. Told that there were no food delivery services in town -not true. Paid extra for dog, then told that dog wasn’t allowed in central garden. No ice. Room stark. Located on busiest street in sketchy neighbourhood. Cable didn’t work. Limited time on internet. Couldn’t check out fast enough! Never again!

There was no garbage or recycling disposal in the room. Also no coffee available. The location is convenient and the price is reasonable.

Stayed for one night. The room was clean with coffee machine and mini fridge. Pretty quiet overall. Easy check in. Would stay again

Super easy access to and from the ferry. Restaurant and stores were within a mile, so easy access to everything in Nanaimo. Will definitely stay here again.
