Fort Pontchartrain Detroit, a Wyndham Hotel

The property, although looks OK, shows signs of repeated attempted updates, but it looks like they just put a coat of paint on it and called it good in many areas. The elevators were in poor condition and only partly functioning.

The lobby and views from my room were beautiful, but the TV wasn’t really working and the bathroom was not all that clean. There was a lot of natural light coming into the room, but at night it’s kind of dark considering there was only two small lamps by the bed and that was it. Also, I called the day before and the day of to check and make sure they had self parking because I didn’t want to do valet and they assured me that there would be self parking but when I got there, they told me that they didn’t have self parking and that I would have to pay $40 for valet or find somewhere else to park my car. The whole point of me choosing this hotel was so that I can park my car in the garage without anyone trying to steal my car because it’s happened before. I’d recommend this place if you don’t have a car.

Good hotel with convenient downtown location. Great bar with 180degree view on top floor. Seemed to be fairly safe even though there was a street fight a few blocks away in the afternoon.

Love it here; amazing staff as per usual. Nice clean comfy room! One of the four elevators is laggy and has no display lights or sounds so using it is mega anxiety inducing and eighteen dollars is far too much for continental Sysco breakfast (same price no matter what or how much you get); but no real cons whatsoever. I’ll continue staying here every time I’m in Detroit!

Great location and convenience to the Riverwalk and eating and some shopping. The room had a great view of the river and Canada but was severely outdated and old although, it was clean. Can certainly tell that it's definitely not new. The only way to park is using valet for $45/night. Great restaurants and bar in the hotel. It seemed safe and quiet. 3.5 only because I expected a more modern room for the price.

BAD: chaotic and unprofessional valet service. The porte cochere is small and difficult to navigate, and the attendants neither helped with our luggage nor even bothered to ask. GOOD: Very clean hotel, from the elevators to the lobby to the room. Cheerful and helpful staff at the desk. Lobby bar/restaurant is comfortable and good for a drink and some TV. We wanted dessert after dinner and only two items on the menu; the bartender recommended a local ice cream shop, Milk & Froth, which I highly recommend, just three blocks from the hotel. Beds comfy and on the firm side; pillows too soft; nice cotton sheets but would have been nice to have an extra blanket on hand. Huge television (too big for the small-ish room?) with high-quality screen and seemingly limitless channel and streaming options. Excellent Detroit River/Windsor view from our 21st floor window. Overall, this is a classic 80s-90s-2000s hotel that is staffed brilliantly, except for the valet, clean, comfortable, and quiet.

Very beautiful hotel pleasant staff my only complaint is the pool looks bigger on the website it’s very smal maybe 4 adults other than that I will definitely book again

We enjoyed our stay! Rooms are great! Especially having a good view from the higher floors. Unfortunately the hotel Doesn’t include parking options other than valet service

Nice overall hotel. Great location. Rooms are well appointed, and clean. Parking was a bit pricey, and No EV hook-ups. Cheaper options just down the block, with Charge-point level 2's on multiple levels.

Valet ran over a parking cone damaging my car. I reserved a King suite and offered a double.after refusing the double, they provided me with a queen suite at the same rate/charges as the king suite. Waistband required for all patrons which was never mentioned as a requirement or you must vacate the premises with no refund. Dirty and smelly pool. More than 40 kids in the pool at one time with no lifeguard, just a security officer fully dressed outside the door letting kids in and out.

Cleaning the carpet on each floor would make the hotel feel cleaner. Upon exiting the elevators, the carpets were extremely dirty.

Easily the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Right across the street from Hart Plaza. Easy to walk around or scooter around downtown. Hospitality was GREAT, room was spotless, I would definitely stay here again!

The room was very clean. Friendly staff.. When we come back downtown we will definitely be staying with you again

The hotel carpeting on 19th floor had a bad smell and was old and dirty. The cleaning staff need to do a better job of cleaning the soap grime off the bathtub glass door. Also, none of the cleaning staff spoke english!

There was a dead bug, huge of some sort. Trim lifting from wall. Window curtains were dirty

The carpet in the hallways were filthy. The carpet in the room was filthy. The bellmen were very nice and helpful.

Very dirty room, bathroom had mold and callled guest services 9x times and never got a response

The room was beautiful and comfortable. I love that they had Roku tv rather than tv like other hotels with basic televisions channels.

I was displeased with how loud the elevator is from our room. I was up late because the sound of the elevator running was loud and vibrated the walls. Other than that I was satisfied with everything else.

My only complaint(s)..it was a bit pricey...but the TV channel selection is insane...You can't get just a schedule of network channels and choose from that. It's almost all subscription streaming choices. Sucks.

beautiful views, comfortable, reasonable and safe walking distance to the ballpark. one flaw - we asked for help getting our TV to work but it never connected so we could not use it during our stay.

Older hotel with updated rooms conveniently located near the river.

The room was VERY Small and the wood around the window was rotten out? For a 400 dollar room I would of thought that kind of stuff would have been fixed. Also, the TV was not working. I called the front desk. They told me an engineer would be up to look at it. Welp no one ever came to fix it, soooo... Netflix it was.

The staff was rude and non accommodating. Upon check-in she would not tell me if I was staying in the riverside room I reserved. "We cannot guarantee the location of your room.) I had to get a manager just to identify the location of my room. After we returned from dinner none of our keys worked in two different rooms. We had to have the keys reprogrammed (all four!). I was charged double for my room and I needed to get a manager to have that rectified. My account was finally credited $100.00 each room for the trouble but not until after I made a fuss. In addition, the third room I reserved was for one night only and the nightly rate jumped from $280.00 to $444.00 because it was one night. Sheesh. Good location and interesting history...the history made the tiny bathroom tolerable. I will not return.

So many things went wrong at this place in the first two hours. TV was broken and they stay in are room to replace it while my family and I continue with our schedule but when we return two and a half hours later we couldn't get in our room. Call front desk and was put on hold for about 15 to 20 mins. My son is disabled and wears braces and couldn't walk or stand any longer due to his weak legs. So I went down to tell them and I'm still on hold and see a few people that could answer my call or assist me right there but they were holding private conversations with each other and a couple of them were helping a customer. I finally saw one of the guys that was handling the TV problem in my room and told him he call a maintenance guy to come. The key was working but the door somehow got jammed but it wasn't jammed when we first when to our room. So it happened when the guys left while we were gone. They had to break into our room but busting in the door and using a tool. All this happened within the first few hours of being here. I was told by management that I would be refunded the 45dollars per day for parking, but only one wasn't charged and I reached home this afternoon and noticed that they didn't keep their word and they charged me 1 day. I want what was promised. My son's legs was cramping the rest of the evening from the long day and stand to long in the hallway to long. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. To much happened and some staff thought that it was funny.

The hotel over all was ok during my stay. I didn’t like that I booked my room months in advance and when I got there I had to wait for them to call me and tell me when they had a room for me because one was not available at my check in at three so me and my daughters sat in the lobby watching other people check in and get rooms. Had to rush to get ready to not miss out five o’clock uber due to not getting in a room until almost 4. Also when I text about parking because I was placed I. Hold with no answer I was told that parking was $40 plus $20 more if parking after 2 which they knew I was parking after 2 considering check in was at three. So had to park in a lot not connected to the hotel.

My stay at Fort Pontchartrain Detroit was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable, and the location made it easy to enjoy downtown events. A special thank you to Lisa at the front desk, who checked us in with professionalism and warmth — she set the tone for a smooth and welcoming experience. The staff, amenities, and nearby parking all contributed to a dignified and stress‑free visit.

Hotel staff helped us during an issue, we had parked our oversize vehicle at a parking area outside the hotel location across the street and the vehicle is broken into. We had a baseball game to go to the next day and the hotel took our truck in through valet and their valet team watched our truck during the entire ball game because the glass was broke out and while we were at the ball game, they vacuumed out the glass out of the backseat, so my passengers could have safety on the return trip home as well as put cardboard in the window and taped it up so we could get home. I can’t say enough about the valet team at the Fort Pontchartrain 100% fantastic people, from the bottom of our heart thank you guys !!!

Unhelpful staff

I always stay at this hotel when I'm in Detroit. It's in the middle of everything and just a short walk to all major event centers. Sits right on the river. Very nice, clean, valet parking and better priced than other hotels nearby.

The view from the 25th floor was amazing. I stayed on the 12th floor and that view was amazing as well. Everything was convenient and walking distance to the ballpark. The free people mover was a bonus. The only thing I did not like was the the cost of the parking

Wonderful view of the river, and easy access to Woodward Avenue and all things downtown Detroit. Hart Plaza right outside. Perfect!

Loved that this hotel is 1 block from the free transportation "people mover". Great for going to Ford Field. The area felt safe to walk around and it\'s close to the riverfront.

The hotel rooms are unique and the staff were very helpful. I love the proximity to the river and the amphitheaters.

The experience was excellent stayed for one night and ate dinner the restaurant on the property. Views of the city and water front from the 9th floor were spectacular. Morning breakfast was amazing with all of the choices that were available.

The hotel is well maintained. Everything in the pool / spa area was functioning and clean. The breakfast was just just fine, not great. For this hotel I would have though they could manage to provide real coffee cups and silverware, not to mention plates at $19/pp. The room was very comfortable and clean.

TV didn’t work sent a maintenance guy up couldn’t fix it besides that wasn’t a bad stay restaurant/bars close too early on a Saturday night with concerts/events in town

The room was very nice, we enjoyed everything except the breakfast buffet. The food was cold and stale and the staff was as unprofessional as any I’ve ever seen. Their only concern was to ensure that everyone understood they were breaking down the buffet at EXACTLY 10:00 am. It would be over priced at half the cost. I would stay there again but will never step foot in that restaurant, close it or clean house.

The only thing that’s needs huge improvement is the breakfast, it was terrible especially for $18.95 per person, very very bad!!

The two restaurants have limited menu, I would go somewhere else for my meal.

The menu for the dining room for dinner is a little skimpy. But the food was good.

Bed was stiff but riim, view and hotel was great. Breakfast was not worth the $19. So many great resturants around that are better.
