The Queens Head

Had done 400+miles from top of Scotland. Hotel was easy to find and had plenty of parking. Was given a fairly safe parking for the bike, but had to unload completely. Provided a full comunal kitchen and I had frozen goods that I could keep frozen overnight. Bathroom was comunal and clean. There was great entertainment available on site, i did not make use of it as I was tired and soar from my ride and went to bed early. Had a good nights sleep. For the price I was happy with my stay. Thank You

The room was quite small but everything we required was there. Nice and warm and quiet. The bonus was that they have a shared kitchen with a fridge, sink and crockery/cutlery. The staff were really friendly. Plenty of car parking beside the rooms,

I stayed for just two nights at the Queens Head. The room i stayed in was decent & i was happy with until i checked the mattress which was soiled, dirty & stained sadly. The kitchen facilities available for guests to use was pleasing. The Queens Head bar is great although as a hotel i would not recommend or stay there again. This is not only because of the dirty bed mattress It is down to the noise from bar downstairs & busy road noise outside. Furthermore The Queens Head is an overpriced Hotel & simply not good value for my money afterall.

Very cheap budget hotel (£41 for a Saturday night stay- family room with shared bathroom and kitchen). Room spacious, comfortable and clean.Room wasn’t very warm despite the radiator being turned up. Shared bathroom is in need of some TLC. Free car park. 15 mins walk to city centre. Would definitely stay again.

Very friendly staff and well situated Worth mentioning: there is a kitchen ; this is handy if you spend a few nights on-site

It was good for ehat i paid for the only thing was they said they had a kitchen but there was no microwave and the kitchen was essentially useless other than for getting water but no the room otherwise was fine and the location was near a Sainsbury's

Room was warm, cosy, a quiet, even though near a busy road, but the room was a bit dated. Bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately, the curtains did not include blackouts and the bright light from the car park shone through. It is an old building, and the rooms could be updated. The shower was excellent, but the sliding door to it had several broken sliders making it a bit difficult to slide. The pub side of the stay was excellent. The staff etc were extremely friendly and helpful. The decor of the pub itself was good and not dated. The restaurant had a good menu and was excellent value. As was the 'a la carte' breakfast. It is within just 15/20 minutes stroll downhill to the city centre, but I'd advise a bus back! We would be happy to stay here again for 2 or 3 nights.

Fantastic place when stopping maybe for a night or two. Ideal walkable location to city centre and all main attractions. Parking on site. Great sized room with a huge walk in shower. No food available due to our check in time which was ok, great information leaflet in room means we got a takeaway delivered and chilled out in our room. Some noise from pub but not more then you'd expect. Definitely stay here again

The room did the job we needed it to. Somewhere centralish to get us into the city. Although on a busy road, over a pub, there was little noise. The beds were OK, the bed linen fresh and clean. Clean towels were provided, as was individual soap and bath gel. The TV worked. There were coat hangers in the wardrobe. You had your own key to get in after the pub was closed. Free parking for about 6 cars is at the side of the pub. The recommended breakfast cafe is closed at the weekend! There is a garage across the road selling limited breakfast supplies. Everything was very dated and is in urgent need of updating. The carpet had slid towards one side of the room and looked like it needed a particularly good clean! Cups were not cleaned for the second day, Milk and coffee were not replenished - but at least this was provided. All drawers needed cleaning out, the skirting boards needed wiping. The heating worked intermittently. I'm not sure the shared bathroom was cleaned either, as the toilet paper had run out by the first evening, and none was provided until late the second evening.

Very friendly bar staff who showed a genuine interest in those visiting the Queen's Head, including recommending local places to dine - good to chat with ... All were first class, although I really only got to know Leah (the "face of the place" early to mid-week). Good selection of beers and spirits ... Inch's cider on tap. The 'Sports Bar' is well laid out - plenty tables/seats; televisions showing sporting events; pool table; dart board, etc. The outdoor beer garden is a great resource. The bedrooms with the shared bathroom are very basic - but excellent value for money. I had a great stay at the Queen's Head and hope to return soon.

No breakfast or any food on offer as advertised when booking the rooms are run down an smell the windows of the pub had been put in and were boarded up the shared bathroom was disgusting mould round taps dirty toilet and absoloutely terrible stay

Had a very enjoyable stay,, you check in at the bar in the pub. Very quick and friendly room was very clean. Stayed in room 1. Bathroom looked like it had a refurb. Only downside was no remote for the tv, but landlady said it was on order, no problem as can turn over with the buttons. Whilst having a drink in the bar we spoke to the landlady and she said she had only been there 12 weeks so was trying to get the pub back up and going after being closed for a while.

The bedlinen was clean, the toilet not so clean. The owners were friendly and quickly provided tea bags and toilet roll. Unfortunately the room we were originally assigned had no heating. We were moved to another room ,which was quiet after 11pm. It is situated within an easy 20 minute walk into Durham centre.

Shared bathroom was disgusting the ahower curtin was disgusting the plug hole in the bath I don’t want to think what it was grubby and black

Property felt filthy and unclean with the exception of the bed which was decently comfy and sheets clean. I had a shared bathroom stay and it was dirty in there with hair in the shower and dirty shower curtains etc. I didnt feel good staying there other than just sleep the night.

Lovely staff, hotel room was lovely pay for what you get, shared bathroom was dirty, people being sick and faeces and urine left in the toilet. Other than that had a pleasant stay.

Good points: Easy to find / parking / bedding clean / facilities to wash clothes. Bad points: boarded up windows in pub below / noisy until 1145 pm / bed was v uncomfortable / bathroom small and mouldy.

Apart from few cobwebs on ceiling found it difficult drying hair etc as there was no mirror in bedroom but other than that it was ok as it was only for 2 nights also it was abit far from town centre

Spacious room, easy access, helpful staff. Obviously no frills and basic accommodation, but well worth it for the price. Excellent soundproofing from the bar (less so from the corridor).

Very clean room with good proportions and big en suite. Mattress was really bad, however and in need of replacing. Outside of the property was a little tired.

Room ok bed comfortable staff friendly enough. Main problem was the music in the pub downstairs reverberating until half past midnight followed by the revellers leaving until one o’clock

The pictures on the site do not even remotely resemble the room we were given. I booked this place because of the photos on your app. We had to share a bathroom which was filthy and full of black hairs. I had booked an en suite. When the sink was used there was a horrendous loud noise in our room. Bed was totally uncomfortable and the pillows virtually none existent. The only clean thing were the towels. No working light on the landing. Thank god for mobile phone torches. If I'd been able to find another room I'd have moved, regardless of cost. We didn't let it ruin our time there as my son was graduating but we definitely will NOT be back!

The room was pleasant but being in a pub meant that the music droned on until 11.30 and the door was continually slamming and vibrating the room.

The room was very pleasant as were the staff. The only issue was the music in the bar below is on until 11.30pm, which would be a problem if you needed an early night.

Every thing was OK except our room was directly above the pub on the first floor where all evening you could hear the thud thud thud of the music from down below, till around 11:15pm each evening.

These are rooms above a pub, so don't set your expectations too high, but it's also budget friendly. First room I was put in was a good size, although a bit tatty and in need of renovation. The en-suite was tiny, with a shower and a toilet, and then a washbasin outside in the room itself. En-suite light switch was broken, so light didn't work, and light above the basin had no bulb. I was moved to another room; smaller room, but bigger, modern bathroom, so much better. No mirror in the bedroom though, so drying my hair was a challenge. (They don't provide a hairdryer, so bring your own.) Being above a pub, there was loud music from downstairs, and people kept going through self-closing connecting doors which shook the whole building each time they slammed shut. However, come closing time (11:30 pm on Friday, midnight on Saturday), all noise immediately stopped (they didn't even wait for the song to finish!), and it became very quiet, so I was able to get a good night's sleep.

Book 2 nights in a superior room!! So bad we had to abandon and book elsewhere. The music from the bar was SO LOUD and didn't cease until 25 past midnight. Then the goodbyes and tidying up noise began for another 30 minutes. Didn't sleep a wink! Nobody available the following morning to discuss and no answer to calls or emails. Broken glass in car park, broken windows and the beer garden was 2 dirty broken and rotten wooden bench tables. DO Not Book to stay here!!!

Exactly as described, this accommodation provides all you need on a budget with clean, modern styled rooms, warm and friendly staff.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Paid extra for a better and quieter room. I checked in and was given my room keys. When I opened the room door, to my dismay, the room was not ready or even clean (old bedding in the bed and old bags of food and empty bottles on the floor). As I had just travelled for 6 hours, I settled for a small room to store my bags before popping out. At the time this second room was offered to me I was told that this alternative room I was being offered was “exactly the same as the other one” I paid £160 for 2 nights. To add insult to injury, when I came back 3 hours later, I realised that the room I had actually paid for was cleaned and rented out to someone else. There was absolutely no offer from the staff to either give me money back or to move me in to the room I had paid for, after it had been cleaned. They simply rented it out to someone else. The first night I could not sleep as there were doors banging and very high noise levels. This was made worse due to the location of the alternative room I was staying in. During the last evening of my stay the curtain rail just fell of the ceiling, leaving the room window completely uncovered. I ended up leaving at 2 am and travelling home early with no sleep for almost 48 hours as I could not take it anymore.

Really enjoyed our stay. Easy check in and very accommodating. Staff very friendly and always willing to help. Within walking distance to Durham. Pub atmosphere very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely stay again.

Incredibly friendly staff and great location (only 10 mins walk into town).

This was a fine hotel to stay in for a couple days, and the people working there were friendly and helpful. Shared bathroom was clean enough for the most part, as was the little kitchen used. Towels, coffee, tea, and TV were in the room, which was nice, and the bed was comfortable. It's not a fancy hotel, but works for solo traveller looking for inexpensive accommodation. 20 min walk to city centre and buses run right by the hotel.

Cant fault this place for the price to be honest. Staff wee great and the beer was sensibly priced unlike in town. Good parking and 20 min walk into the city. Will stay again.

Room was a good size. Close to a Sainsburys Local and a bus stop. About 30 mins walk to train station. Pub downstairs was a wee bit noisy. Doesnt serve breakfast but you can go to Wetherspoons in the town. Nice enough for a short stay.Outside needs renovating.

Needs to be updated - very tired looking throughout. Website shows bed and breakfast with pictures of delicious food - on arrival informed they do not do food anymore!!! Website gross misrepresentation!!!

Good location clean and tidy enjoyed the food freindly staff

Bedroom was very nice, smaller than expected but clean with everything we needed. Bathroom was lovely. Shame that they don’t make food there anymore, like advertised online.

We stayed for a weekend. This place does Bed-only bookings, thought there are many places you can go to nearby or in the city centre for food. There is also a shared kitchen, which we scarcely used, but that is equipped with kettle, microwave, fridge, worktops, etc. so you could rustle up stuff for yourself. They do provide (at extra cost) breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday morning - we took advantage on Saturday morning, but went elsewhere for a late breakfast in town on Sunday (Vennel bakery cafe in the centre, bit tucked away, but worth the search). Daytime/evening meals here are good (we used them for one meal). This place is easy to get to from the A1, a short distance east of the town centre (walkable, but there are several frequent bus services along Gilesgate into town, so we only had to walk Sunday morning having just missed one bus - currently a little disorganised in town for the return due to redevelopment of the bus station). Whilst the staff were friendly, they leave you alone if you want - you have key to room and back door (for outside opening hours access). Will book again if we decide to make another trip. Some of the rooms (like ours) face onto the street, so there might be a bit of road noise during the week, or at other times of year, but we had no problems. There may also be a bit of noise up to midnight from the pub below, but this wasn't excessive.

Friendly, basic inn - decent food. Good value

I Had thought it came with breakfast which it doesn't - although Mon-Fri there is a brilliant little cafe hidden away but very close which staff told us about. We upgraded to the superior room which had a lovely ensuite but the bed is uncomfortable, which they obviously know as you sleep on a duvet to minimise the feel of the spings.

Cleanliness of room excellent.Outside leaves a lot to be desired overfulll rubbish bins particularly smelly.Original ad said price includes breakfast but it didnt..The premises out side advertised meals 12 to 8 but there wasnt a chef so no meals available otherwise it was comfortable.
