Lovely old pub, nice room, great king sized bed. Good service in the bar and well above average pub food. Nice cooked breakfast too. We will return

My second time at the H & F. What a wonderful place to stay. Lovely tasteful rooms, superb food, incredible staff and most important of all an excellent choice of locally brewed well kept ales.

Simply fantastic option. Warm friendly staff from the off. Stayed in a suite which was really pleasant. Food was excellent. Drying room for wet hiking clothes was a bonus.

Lovely little pub, which is dog friendly in the bar but sadly not the rooms. Pleasant stay in a very small twin room, good breakfast included and nice pub food available in the evening.

A great wee spot to stay in the Lake District. Our room was quiet and the king sized bed very comfortable. The food was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was easy and it’s only a short walk through the village to get onto the old railway tracks walk which takes you into Keswick, 5km away. We will be back😊

Place was warm and parking good. However would not stay again. No wifi, our room was too far away from the booster, however 3 ppl gave me a different reason why it wasn’t working which were all in conflict. Many dishes were dirty, there was still rubbish left under the sink previous occupants face cloths left in the freezer and no toiletries. Very disappointing.

Great place to stay, fabulous food and good service from hardworking friendly staff. Very busy restaurant and bar with a great drinks menu, limited food menu and daily specials. Food was excellent, (and large portions). Outside had a large seating area. (only gripe is that they do not have a small residents sitting room. If you want a quiet drink at the bar when it's busy there is no room, or you sit outside. We stayed for 3 nights in one of the smaller rooms, very compact bathroom which included very good shower, a small sink and toilet. Only gripe is that the towel rail was too high on the wall above the toilet and only 1 narrow glass shelf above the sink. The bedroom had a kettle and tea/coffee, tv, hairdryer, very comfy bed, pillows not so comfy (but that's my personal opinion) . There was a desk and a chair and a cubby hole with hangers in the wall for clothes. Room was above the kitchen but that never bothered us and was very quiet after the kitchen closed. Had 3 great night's sleep. We will definitely stay again.

The accomodation was excellent, very clean and tidy with great views. The food for both breakfast and evening meal was truly delicious and the selection of real ales was top notch. Easy to walk into Keswick along the wagonway or get the bus from right outside. Would totally recommend.

Pretty average stay with unfriendly staff and varying levels of food - some good some average. Of note was the scrambled egg on toast which was minuscule. Bedrooms were clean, shower was powerful and hot. Walls had peeling paint and general areas of the hotel were grotty in places. Wouldn’t stay again.

Felt let down by this place. It has great reviews on T/A which is why we booked it. Generally the place needs a good deep clean and the paintwork sorting - chipped paintwork everywhere, and getting the vac out would help. All the light fittings were grubby. The windows were grbby too. Our double bed in the "suite" had what felt like a metal bar down the middle where the two singles were pushed together. Not helping cuddles ! Heating goes off early so bear this in mind when you are sleeping in a room with no double glazing in winter. Staff were good and the breakfast one of the best I have had in a while. BUT Mr Dyson and Mr Sheen need to pay a visit.

We stayed 2 nights with breakfast, a Friday and Saturday. It was a family stay as we were attending a wedding locally. We reserved 2 rooms. Both were clean, tastefully decorated and had small en-suites, one with a bath and the other a shower. The rooms were very warm. There was no air con but we opened a window and a fan was provided. It was very quiet outside so this wasn’t an issue and we had a nice view of the mountain behind. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food and hospitality were excellent. All the staff were very helpful. The breakfast is great too with a choice of cooked or continental with juices, nuts, yoghurts and soya options. We would definitely recommend.

Disappointed with breakfast especially for my partner who is coeliac and has to have gluten free food. Room was comfortable and nicely decorated but little things like a very rusty bin in the bathroom spoil the effect.

The bathroom was clean, as was the bedroom, except carpet was very worn & not so clean looking. We had twin beds, which were comfortable. We ate dinner at the pub that evening & the food & service were both good! The included, cooked to order breakfast was very tasty. All the staff were helpful!

I stayed in the Horse and Farrier pub, which was busy when I arrived. Quick check in process and my room was lovely and very comfy. Just a quick overnight stop for work this time. Good quality linen and towels, clean. Great nights sleep - no noise from downstairs. Breakfast was included and was cooked to order.

We had an amazing time. The food amazing in a gorgeous pub. The atmosphere and hospitality was fantastic everyone made us feel welcome very friendly especially the lovely Keith, what a legend! Loved listening to the stories & the history of the building he was brilliant! We paid £132 a night (Tuesday( for our room, there was a few minor problems, especially the volume of the music that we could hear while in our room played in the bar & we did also wonder if it was actually a Superior room, (room 5). We would definitely stay again but request a different room.

The Horse and Farrier is a great old building with lots of character. The weather was poor when we arrived so couldn’t really see the views unfortunately. Our room, which I believe has been newly renovated was gorgeous. Really tastefully decorated to compliment the original features like the wood beams. The bathroom had a stunning freestanding claw foot bath. A special mention to Keith who is super attentive and professional to customers. Would recommend the Horse and Farrier.

This is a review for the Sally Cottage, which is attached to the Salutation Inn… If you’re looking for a place to simply rest your head after hiking all day, this cottage might be OK. If like us, you’re a family that needs a base for rainy days then I’m afraid I can’t recommend it. The upstairs is spacious and in OK condition, but the downstairs area is cold and tatty. When we arrived (mid afternoon) the cottage was being cleaned and the back door was standing open. It was a cold day, so by the time we checked in at 4pm the downstairs room was freezing - with none of the plug-in heaters turned on. There’s no welcome pack/folder to provide any info and we quickly came to realise that the “free wifi” advertised on here is actually only available in the pub - not the cottage, which is quite misleading. There was also no sign of a remote for the lounge TV. In the kitchen, all the pots had been put back in the cupboards wet, but there weren’t any tea towels or even kitchen roll to dry everything off. The only thing of that nature was a blue paper roll under the sink, so I had to call at the pub and request towels. All in all, it was a pretty miserable stay and we left a day early after my 4 year old complained of being cold. I did flag the issues when checking out and was just told they would make a note. Not sure what good that is to us but hey ho. Pub food at the Salutation Inn was good and I would consider staying there, but I won’t be returning to the cottage.

Lovely big bed in the main bedroom but we couldn't sleep because of the constant noise of the air conditioning unit for the pub. Fortunately, it couldn't be heard in the second bedroom, so we moved into that. The stairs were steep, narrow and winding, which could be an issue for anyone with a mobility problem.

Great pub in great location at a very good price. Amazing evening meal. Floorboards quite thin so could hear downstairs when in room however was quiet 11pm onwards. Breakfast was spot on, pastries would have made it 5 out 5. Overall don’t hesitate to stay here if I’m Keswick area!

Location is great, only a short drive into Keswick, with beautiful views of the mountains. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

Friendly and welcoming from the start, all staff were smiley and helpful. Our room was clean, comfortable and the shower was amazing! We had drinks in the bar and ate later on for dinner, service was fabulous and the food great value for money. We had a quiet and relaxed sleep in a very comfy bed. Breakfast was served by lovely staff and the produce used on the full English was tasty and good quality. Highly recommended and would stay again.

A very friendly and helpful Landlord and Landlady who made us feel very welcome. The twin room was relatively small but perfectly adequate for an overnight stay. The bath towels are outstanding in size and fluffiness!! The breakfast was very good in deed. Overall - excellent value for money. Highly recommended for an overnight stay with a hearty home cooked breakfast.

This was a birthday/ anniversary trip for 2 nights. Check-in was great, with friendly and welcoming staff. The pub itself and our room were warm, cosy, and really nicely decorated. The food was great: both the full Cumbian breakfast and the evening meal we had on the Saturday night. The reason I've given 3 stars out of 5 is that we had such a bad night last night (Saturday). We expect noise from the bar when we're staying in a pub; after all, the buildings are typically old and don't have sound insulation. However, given that the bar closes at 11.00pm, and allowing time for people to drink up and leave, it seems reasonable to hope that things will be quiet by midnight - but they weren’t. We were in room 6, above the far end of the bar. By 1.00 in the morning I couldn't take any more and went downstairs to ask for the noise to stop. To my surprise there was a member of staff there, who must have known how easily the sound travels but was allowing the noise to continue. It's such a shame to have to include this in my review, because otherwise we had a lovely stay. But consideration needs to be given to guests who are upstairs trying to sleep, especially if they are planning an early start for a long walk or climb, as many people must be who stay at this pub.

Beautiful rooms, great service (Keith is a legend!) and excellent, great value food. Only a 5 minute drive to Keswick and a great base for walks in the fells.
