While the view is the draw at The Union Bluff, there are not many other amenities here. Guests are charged $15.00 per day for a hotel "services" fee. I'm not sure what that's for. There used to be a continental breakfast that has been replaced with a separately charged served breakfast. There is no place to fill a water bottle. The parking situation is difficult. More than once we got blocked in by valets who were taking care of cars for a wedding onsite. The food in the Union Grill is good and the served breakfast was good, but both have limited options. There is no pool. I'm not expecting a full "store", however, it would be good to be able to get things like bottled water, snacks, band-aids, shower caps, women's sanitary things and toothbrushes somewhere. We had to walk a block and a half to the general store to get these things. The room was clean, the bed and pillows were comfortable and the bathroom was new, handicap accessible and gigantic. However the toilet was one of those really low flow things that I'll leave the result to your imagination.

We just finished up another stay at Union Bluff. I lost count of how many times we have been there, as a couple or as a family, and our experience is always great. Staff at the front desk is always welcoming and friendly. The hotel’s proximity to Short Sands is unbeatable. To be able to walk out of your hotel, cross a quiet one way road and be on the sand is wonderful. The hotel also has chairs set up along the shore to sit and enjoy a beverage of choice, time with loved ones or a good book, and of course, the view! We ate at the pub twice for lunch and the food was delicious and the staff was friendly and attentive. Our only “con” to this trip was short staffing didn’t allow for daily housekeeping, which was disappointing, but clearly communicated when we arrived in the room. However, the hotel did take advantage of technology and text me throughout our stay, making it easy to communicate any needs we had, and housekeeping was available on request. We love the Union Bluff and will definitely be back!

We enjoyed having a balcony and wonderful ocean view all weekend. Not a big fan of the Union Bluff Pub restaurant. Too loud, food was bland, out of a lot of items due to how busy they were but in a good way! Good for them and the business they were bringing in. Parking is not great. (There was also a wedding) keep that in mind.

We loved the convenience of not needing to drive anywhere. The Short Sands community/village provided everything needed to relax and enjoy our time away. The hotel was great, but I informed the staff that we had a torn chair on the deck that was unusable but never replaced, so it limited our time on the deck. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay, and will return.

Probably the cleanest room I have ever stayed at! The Hotel and its views are amazing!! We stayed in the motel building and it was everything we wanted!! The grassy area just across from the hotel is amazing and perfect to sit and watch the ocean!! Love every minute!!!

Nice location but everything else lacking. My husband & I have stayed here multiple times with previous owners & always had a great experience. Unfortunately I cannot say the same now that a corporate conglomerate has taken over. Our room wasn't cleaned, bed linens from previous guest weren't changed & cable tv didn't even work. Yes after complaining it was resolved but for very high price per nite this should of never occurred. The GM refunded us $100 but frankly it should of been alot more. Common grounds are dirty, front desk staff except Katerina are rude & have an attitude. If you want to keep returning guests there needs to be a huge improvement. I shouldnt have to pay an extra $100 per nite to book the same exact room directly with them vs expedia.

Everything was beautiful!! Your staff was so accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately we did not have ocean view. I was unable to get that….I must have booked too late. Our room was very clean, neat and tidy. I have been going to York Beach for over 45 years. It’s my “zen”. I’m fortunate to have relatives that live near Nubble Light. Always a chance to spend time with them while I’m here. Your location is perfect for that. We had our “happy hour” at your bar both Friday and Saturday evening. You should be so proud of your staff that represents The Union Bluff. They were awesome. Please share my compliments. I look forward to our next visit. I will book earlier for an ocean view. Thank you for your hospitality. You get a 10 out of 10 from me!! Sincerely, Donna Gage

My husband I booked one of the last 2 rooms available during York Days. We had never been to York. The hotel was perfect- amazing location, spotless room, great service, friendly staff. Could not have asked for more.

Stayed in bridal suite. View of parking lot, arcade and bowling alley, horrible ocean view far in distance. No privacy on deck. On arrival, empty beer bottles and silo cups all over deck, and room not turned down. Asked guy at desk for clean sheets and towels and he said, "No, I inspected the room myself." Bed was not made and there were dirty towels tossed in bathroom. Eventually he sent someone and we had to spend forever trying to ask for clean sheets and towels and for the room to be cleaned through a translation app. For dinner, very understaffed, they had one server also managing a busy bar, and waited about two hours for food, then another 2 hours for check. Doors were disgusting, hand prints everywhere. Every counter top was sticky and dirty. This place is a "party hotel", not a place to relax and chill ocean side.

Great stay !!! Location excellent, with easy beach access. Enjoyed dinner at on site restaurant, great food and service. All staff knowledgeable, friendly and extremely helpful !!! Our room was very clean and comfortable. We will be back again 😊

Obviously the key to this property is location. Being right next to short sands beach is very convenient. I understand with this location the rooms cannot be so large. Didn't realize it would be this small.

We stayed in the Surfside Motel side and not the Main building. The photos on the website are really nice, but not what I had expected upon arrival. I was disappointed when I got to my room and realized that the room has a "sliding door" as the entrance, and window to our "ocean view." The ocean view was partially obstructed from what I thought I was getting. If I were to stay there again, I would prefer to stay in the main hotel building where the view would have been better, and it appeared that I would have a private balcony vs a shared one like we had. Overall pleased, just a bit underwhelmed based on my assumption from the photos.

Location is absolutely unmatched and it pretty much ends there. I feel like spending 1,200 on two nights (with tax) was pricey to climb three flights of stairs to my room and have a very uncomfortable shared balcony. The air conditioning wall units are so loud they will keep you up all night and the pictures of the rooms are definitely deceiving. The food is the restaurant was subpar also. Wouldn’t call this a “boutique hotel”. That’s a stretch.

The towels were nice, and it was clean. But the main attraction (ocean view from every room) is disappointing because the curtains have to be drawn all the time. This is because the window is on a shared balcony and people are walking back and forth all the time, and can look into the room. You can't actually sit on the balcony, it's too narrow and has no chairs. Overall it feels more like a motel.

The front desk people are unfriendly! When you come to the desk they pay no attention to you until they are good and ready.. There was a wedding there and the parking lot was taken over by the wedding as opposed to the paying guests.. Please note, the valet, Ethan was the best employee!!!! We’ve been staying here every year in the summertime for the past 12 years, for the price it’s probably better options. It is very close to the beach and the shopping, which we love however, when we pulled in this year, we were told there’s a wedding so parking might not be an option right away thankfully the ballet teenager gave us his parking spot because he felt bad for us because we just driven three hours and didn’t have a parking spot. Seems mildly ridiculous that there’s no parking available when you pay for a hotel room front office. Staff never seem to be super welcoming for that price. Also on Sunday night around 130 that was a bunch of drunk people outside our hotel that could take you to party pretty late night not ideal for kids to sleep.

Overall stay was great. Service was on point. We were there mothers day weekend. Wish we madenit for mother day brunch but my only gripe was they had only limited seating for families. When we tried to book was only for parties of 2. So our family of 3 couldnt go.

Everything was beautiful!! Your staff was so accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately we did not have ocean view. I was unable to get that….I must have booked too late. Our room was very clean, neat and tidy. I have been going to York Beach for over 45 years. It’s my “zen”. I’m fortunate to have relatives that live near Nubble Light. Always a chance to spend time with them while I’m here. Your location is perfect for that. We had our “happy hour” at your bar both Friday and Saturday evening. You should be so proud of your staff that represents The Union Bluff. They were awesome. Please share my compliments. I look forward to our next visit. I will book earlier for an ocean view. Very dated facilities which can be charming but is cumbersome. TV didn’t work. Took two visits to the front desk across a day to get it resolved, which made entertaining two young kids at night a challenge at best. Could hear people walking around upstairs until very late at night. Mistakenly left our credit card at the bar (corralling kids to bed). Bar confirmed they have it to the front desk. Front desk insisted they didn’t have it and were literally anything but helpful. Couldn’t have cared less if he tried. I had to demand leaving our contact information for when it shows up and response was, “I don’t want to get your hopes up because it’s not here.” Except it is. Wonderful way to continue our travels without a credit card and an incredibly apathetic and cold staff person to help. Staff in the bar were at least understanding and tried to help.

We just finished up another stay at Union Bluff. I lost count of how many times we have been there, as a couple or as a family, and our experience is always great. Staff at the front desk is always welcoming and friendly. The hotel’s proximity to Short Sands is unbeatable. To be able to walk out of your hotel, cross a quiet one way road and be on the sand is wonderful. The hotel also has chairs set up along the shore to sit and enjoy a beverage of choice, time with loved ones or a good book, and of course, the view! We ate at the pub twice for lunch and the food was delicious and the staff was friendly and attentive. Our only “con” to this trip was short staffing didn’t allow for daily housekeeping, which was disappointing, but clearly communicated when we arrived in the room. However, the hotel did take advantage of technology and text me throughout our stay, making it easy to communicate any needs we had, and housekeeping was available on request. We love the Union Bluff and will definitely be back!

This is one of our favorite places to stay. The views are amazing. It is right on Short Sands so you can relax in one of the lounge chairs on the grassy area and step right onto the beach and into the ocean. It is very clean and well kept. It is so relaxing all day and night there.

We love staying here for a weekend get away with girl friends and kids (age 9-11). Everything is easy, close, and walkable. Beach is across the street. Parking is easy in front or in lot in back. So many food and local shopping options. We take a buggy from short sands to long sands easily to check out the food up there. Arcade, bowling, and mini-golf are on the beach across the street. Hotel Bar is great - can grab to-go drinks and sit out front on the Adirondack chairs overlooking the water. Safe area. Playground and basketball courts were a big hit for the kids too! Lots of places with live bands near by. Usually the hotel has a wedding going on - so some nights can be loud/noisy with wedding guests. But not unbearable!

Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a four bedroom house, which was an amazing surprise for our family with three small children. The hotel itself is in a great spot, with ocean views and a cute walkable town. Would definitely stay again!

Beautiful location with free parking practically on the beach! Gorgeous scenery & sunrise! Rocky coastline with white soft sand beach! Hotel was clean & well maintained. We were supposed to get a suite that sleeps 5 but arrived to find 2 beds so they brought us a roll away cot. I booked this hotel in January. At the time, a free breakfast was included. This was important as we didn't want to have eat in a restaurant- wanted to grab food & eat at the beach. Arrived at the breakfast room to find out they stopped the continental breakfast in April but I was never informed and they would not honor the fact that it was included with our reservation. We paid $9 each for 2 scrambled eggs & a toast for 5 of us and had to eat there. They served 4 of the 5 of us but 1 plate had a long hair in it so we sent it back. They recooked her eggs and served her while our 5th person STILL hadn't received her food. When we asked- they said "oh, ok" like they didn't even know it was missing and served her 30 minutes after everyone else. I recommend the hotel but NOT the breakfast!!!

Located near everything, just park and walk. Hotel is clean and the employees are friendly and helpful. The restaurant/bar is busy and the food is awesome. The breakfast restaurant has a variety of tasty items but is closed on Wednesday. I would recommend staying here.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and the beds comfortable. The only improvement might be small dust pan and brush by the doors, because we didn’t want to bring sand in with us. The beach was great! Just walk across the street. We will be back!
