Hotel Laki

Friendly staff, nice buffet breakfast with hot and cold options, very clean rooms. They have a special rooftop area where you can go to view the Aurora. We saw it!

Stayed two nights. Very friendly staff. Fast check in and out. The room and halls arent very nice. Very basic and walls are very thin. The restaurant, deck, and lounge are beautiful. I felt they made up for the room. A nice breakfast included with your stay.

No complaints about our stay in this hotel. We got a free room upgrade which was nice, there was plenty of parking and the breakfast was lovely. The checkin desk was empty when we arrived and left, so we had to call a number. Part of the shower thermostat had fallen off in the bathroom and everything looked a little tired. Overall we slept well and would stay there again if ever passing through.

Red alert weather conditions “quarantined” us for an extra day and we weren’t allowed to leave. Even though they lost power for several hours we found it a charming place to stay. Plenty of places to relax and the food was excellent. And they wisely kept the bar open in the dark. 😉

Have a roof top to see aurora

All public areas like reception, restaurant and bar are really nice and modern. Breakfast was also really good and filling. Our economy room was clean, but you heard everything going on in the hallway pretty loudly. Also it smelled a little bit inside the bathroom. All in all a solid stay.

Hotel Laki is well located if you want to continue exploring beyond Vik, perhaps taking in Skaftafell and Jokulsarlon. In my opinion it doesn't merit the 8.8 rating it currently has on the platform, but if only management organised a couple of days' snagging the whole vibe could be lifted: why was the picture in my room hung crooked? Why was the light fitting not attached properly to the ceiling? Why was the cord shortened so amateurishly using a cable tie? It's a shame as the fitting itself was quite stylish, going well with the, I think, hand made copper hanging rack. There just seemed to be so many easy wins not being taken. Cleanliness throughout was good, but not outstanding. A long hair, not mine, on the towel; some price stickers, which a previous guest thoughtfully left on the wall under a shelf instead of in the bin, were missed at least twice (so far) by house-keeping. Breakfast was a good buffet spread, with some very impressive loaves featuring. The restaurant staff, and the restaurant in general, were a highlight of the property for me. The menu wasn't long, but the food was well cooked and well presented, with generous portions. I happily ate there both nights of my stay, and some of the attention to detail visible there would go a long way throughout the property.

Beautiful grounds and the restaurant is excellent. We had a basic room as it was 1niggt stay on our Ring Road journey. Clean, comfortable and beautiful views!

Very nice hotel with big clean rooms and bathrooms. There was access to some sort of balcony which was shared with the rest of the rooms in the hallway. The beds were comfortable. There is a restaurant on the premises. The breakfast buffet which was included was extensive. Dinner was a la carte and delicious. The staff is attentive and friendly.

We seemed to have been in the unrenovated area of the hotel where the walls are entirely too thin. Even the floors seemed thin and creaked as you walk on them so we heard the creaking floors from the floor above as well. I wish they would offer prices that are reduced than what we paid for if we were going to be in the old part. Otherwise charging that much for that room seems unfair. What bothered me the most was that the sheets did NOT smell fresh at all. It smelled used or not all the way washed. Yikes. For pros, check in was super fast, staff was very friendly and the surrounding area beautiful. Also easy to get to from the 1 with an arch to welcome you in from the road.

Mycket besviken, ej värd pengarna. Bokade i januari för 198 euro/natt, fick betala vid inchekning 220 med förklarning att priset har ändrats. Efter diskussion fick skillnad tillbaka. Väldigt basic hotell, vattenblandare var trasigt, flera hårstrå var på golvet i badrummet. Man har öppen buffé på restaurang med pris runt 50 Euro, går att äta men ingen höjdare. Frukost rent besvikelse, billigaste produkter och lång kö. Det var flera stora turist grupper som övernattade på hotelet. Vi stannade på Fosshotel och Geisir förre den hotelet, prisskillnaden är lite dock kontrast som dag och natt. Skulle aldrig tillbaka igen.

Dans l'ensemble le séjour c'est bien passé, la chambre était plutôt moderne bien que nous étions dans la partie de l'hôtel non rénovée. La salle de bain était assez petite, pas pratique et pas très propre. La poubelle de la salle de bain n'avait pas été changé. L'hôtel est cependant très beau de l'extérieur comme de l'intérieur, il y a un restaurant au besoin, et le petit déjeuné est vraiment complet et bon !

Nice quite hotel on the south coast. Stayed a night after the glacier hike and visiting the glacier lagoon. Breakfast was nice. Clean rooms. Bathroom and shower small but not bad for a night.

It's a basic room for a lot of money. Toilet seat was broken in our room and the walls are very thin. Staff were very nice throughput the stay

Overall good stay. We were in the older section of the hotel so our room was not as updated, I got a glimpse inside the other rooms getting cleaned and they looked quite a bit nicer than ours. Not sure if I selected a more economy option. I would say the price point was higher than what the room was worth. We got 2 twin beds so we pushed them together for a double. Not much parking, we had to make our own space but it worked out okay. Good continental breakfast.

Hotel Laki can give you a variety of very different experiences. The original(?) building had the better rooms (where I stayed - hence the positive review). Spacious, comfortable, with balcony/veranda. All around, a great room. I did get to see one of the budget room in the newer part of the building - it wasn't great. Tiny, cramped, and just poor quality facilities. They also have the private bungalows, which I didn't get to see, so I can't comment on the quality. The common areas (restaurant, bar, sitting room) were all very nice and well up-kept. Breakfast was very good too. Bottom line is, if you're getting a budget room, expect it not to match the rest of the hotel in terms of niceness. Spring for the nicer ones, if you can.

For the price, I did not see any luxury. The bed was hard and the bathroom was run down. The room I chose was advertised as having a glacier view, if it did I certainly couldn’t see it.

Most of this hotel looks like it was renovated, however we were in an old section and it felt very dated. Rest of hotel had a nice bar area, restaurant, and that felt cozy. Our room was just a bit lackluster.

Great breakfast included. Easy parking. However the standard room is tight, very limited space in bathroom, not enough lighting on the ground level rooms. Staff started cleaning early morning, the door is not soundproof- you could hear everything in the aisle.

Bed was comfortable, but the room was extremely warm. Shower was cramped

Pleasant location with beautiful views. Hotel staff was friendly. The restaurant is nice - good food, wonderful service. The facilities are in need of upgrading. The price we paid for an "average at best" room was exorbitant. We were charged over $530 (USD) for a room with threadbare curtains and a bathroom with broken fixtures.

First if all I have stayed all over Iceland and thus was by far the worst hotel it was worn down and old furniture cheap bathroom fan was like an airplane toilet seat broken drains not work pillows Lumpy bed terrible just overall the worst for the junior suite and 550 us … I would not stay there ! Front desk staff rude just awful

Front desk guy was amazing

I feel the property is well run. However, my daughters were confused about the dinner schedule. They were seated at dinner by hotel staff without realizing we were going out for dinner. The lady in charge made them feel small. I had a glass of wine from my room and she made sure I got rid of it. This was the first incident of rude Icelandic behavior. We wont return to this property.

All the staff are polite, friendly and helpful. Mr Jose and a lady in the restaurant were very good

Stayed here with our toddler during our winter Iceland road trip. Check in was quick and easy. The restaurant was yummy. Free breakfast was much appreciated! The staff was very welcoming. Only issue is that the walls are thin. We heard a group outside late into the night. However, once we alerted hotel staff they promptly took care of it.

This was the only place in Iceland I didn’t like. My reservation was made over 6 months in advance but I got a room in the less renovated wing of the hotel. On arrival the toilet seat was so loose it was a hazard. While it was repaired after complaint I wonder how it went unnoticed if the room was cleaned. The restaurant refused to serve us and asked us to wait when it was late and we were hungry and exhausted saying they were too busy. There were many open tables so we went elsewhere. There were other small things. Loud fan in the bathroom that was connected to the light and stayed on a long time after the light went out.Unappealing shower. Just not a great stay compared to many varied places and levels of stay on the trip.

Nicest receptionist ever! So helpful in pointing out things to do and where to go I can’t say enough about them. The room was very clean,new, and had a really nice breakfast too with a view.We can’t wait to come back through and stay here again. It’s a 10 out of 10 in my book!!😊

Great customer service from the Receptionist to the people in the dining area. Even though they're so busy they still take time to approached their guests to ask if everything is okay. I highly recommend this hotel.

Restaurant staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. Surroundings are serene. They offer dinner services.

Hotel Laki was great Conveniently located near Kirkjabaejaklauster. Restaurant and bar on site, nice easy check in, comfortable rooms and a good place to stay if you intend to do glacier tours in skaftafell and to explore the south coast

A beautiful hotel located near many great attractions and beautiful scenery! We only stayed for one night, but I would love to return and fully appreciate what this hotel offers.

The hotel is off the road 1. Scenic and quiet. At night if weather permit, you could probably see thousands of stars. Breakfast is good. We stay for 2 nights and find that it’s quite accessible to many place.

Good location for the things we wanted to do in the area.

Very bad water pressure in shower made it very cold to shower with hot water only trickling out. Restaurant menu limited and poor service. Overall mediocre stay. Room clean and nice

Simple updates in the rooms recently made it feel much more modern. Large property with beautiful views and grounds. We chose to eat in town where it was a little cheaper for dinner but the breakfast was one of the best we had. Included some American breakfast standards like sausage and scrambled eggs

Super nice room. Breakfast was fabulous, in fact probably the best in Iceland. The staff was super friendly. It was one of the most expensive accommodations during our trip, but your choices are quite limited in this area. The flow of tourists during the short summer season is exceeding the accommodations in the area. The only laundry option was to leave your bag for the staff to wash overnight to $25-30

We had a very pleasant 2-night stay here. The hotel is situated in beautiful landscape with many attractions within fairly easy driving distance. It's lovely and quiet, and there's an open area on the roof for aurora-spotting. The evening meal on offer is a buffet which makes sense - no shortage of food and the staff do a great job in keeping things moving, although you'll find that it does set you back a bit (but not really any more than anywhere else in Iceland).

The property is pretty dated, looks about 30 years old. However, our room was really clean, roomy and warm. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and had a lot of items to choose from. Don't bother with the restaurant for dinner, though, unless you don't have transport to take you to one of the nearby places. It's more expensive than average but small portions.

The property looks beautiful and appears to be quite new. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the laundry service and the clothes are clean and folded for us in the morning. The breakfast is included and has a wide variety of options, served in the bright and large restaurant. We were disappointed in the restaurant dinner options. There’s were extremely limited vegetarian options (only one entree) and we we ordered it, were told it wasn’t available. The suggestion was to have a salad. As the prices were already high, the idea of settling for a 30,000ISK salad as a consolation prize was untenable. We had to drive back into the nearest town for supper. The server was very kind and apologetic (obviously not their fault) about the whole ordeal. The rating reflects the reality that it is unreasonable not to have robust non-meat options on the menu.
