We knew there would not be breakfast and there would be some construction in lobby area but we would have a renovated room. It felt like the room was finished 10 minutes before we arrived. The shower caulking was done poorly (and quickly?). The second morning there was NO hot water and when we reported it, the only response was “oh.” There was construction materials and trash everywhere and dust was a problem. Parking was among containers as construction workers took spots closest to doors. There should have been a much more clearer indication of construction and much better management of this project

Nice, clean hotel. NOTE - NO ELEVATOR. I did not request first floor. When I arrived, they didn't have a first floor room. However they did get me one. I'm in my 70's and an elevator is needed when not on the first floor. Furniture is heavy older style. Seating was good, but chairs were hard to move. It would be nice if there were an adjustable office chair. Armchair would not go under the desk. Good TV and show selection. Location in town is great. Walk out the door and you are in downtown Potsdam. If I were younger and more fit, I would stay there again. Should I go back again, I may check out the Hampton Inn, farther away.

Our room was large and comfortable. The parking lot was also spacious and offered easy access to the facility. The staff was friendly and helpful. Downtown Potsdam, where the hotel is located, is largely deserted, with empty storefronts in most of the historic buildings. However, there is a beautiful riverfront park right next to the hotel that offers pleasant views of the water and surrounding scenery. Also, even though the Potsdam area does not offer boutiques or other high-end shopping or dining options, one can find department stores, discount outlets, grocery stores, diners and practical dining options just a few minutes away by car.

The Clarkson is in the middle of a remodel, and it's coming along nicely. We've stayed there 3 prior times, but this is the first in their refinished rooms. The bathroom tile was very nice, the new furniture was also comfortable and stylish. The staff was friendly as always

Clean rooms but place was a total mess because of construction. No coffee maker in room, phone didn’t work, shades didn’t go up and down, no breakfast available and was afraid to park in parking lot because of construction trailers and equipment everywhere.

We had a lovely stay at this pet friendly hotel in potsdam. Nice large rooms, very clean, very friendly staff and a great location on the river. However, it should be noted that there is no elevator in the building. If you are put in a 2nd floor room, you will need to take the stairs. This will be a problem for people with mobility issues.

This is a great location and has always been a nice hotel, but right now it's undergoing a major renovation, which has over 50% of the facility completely closed. There is dust everywhere, the front entry has plastic tarp everywhere, and the carpets are a mess. The room that we have is updated and very nice. We had requested two beds, and they only had a king and a pullout available. Their biggest two weekends of the year are here for graduations, yet they have over half the rooms unavailable. The construction should be very obviously stated on the hotel, as this is a huge disappointment.

The bedroom was good, but bathroom was musty, moldy caulk, mold on the shower curtains, the vent fan did not work it was extremely loud and broken, no toilet paper, there’s just a sliding door to the bathroom that leaves a open crack so no privacy. The district manager at the front desk was not friendly but the cleaning ladies were nice and smiled at us. The Keurig was filled with dust/grime. I’ve been to other BW and they are much cleaner & the staff is friendly. I was not satisfied with our stay here. Even after touching the shower curtain we stank from the gross smell of the curtain. I notified the workers but they just said they’ll pass it on. We didn’t get a different room and/or nothing was fixed/changed. I know this BW is new to town but we won’t be back there. Thanks.

When I booked this, it was a quaint local inn. While we knew there were updates being done to the main floor, we didn’t know it had been completed changed to a Best Western. I sent an email before our trip asking for information, it was never acknowledged. It is sterile and cold. No one at the desk even spoke to us when we went down to get coffee to go. Not even a Good Morning. Not good for anyone needing an elevator. When traveling, luggage can be awkward to get up stairs. There is only a stairway with awkward railings. The bathroom has no safety features at all. Nothing at all to hang on to when getting into and out of the tub. We don’t need ADA but there is nothing. The shower curtain has an easily removable bottom so it can be cleaned but it was caked with mildew. All I can say is that the beds were clean and comfy. Extremely disappointed by their “upgrades”.

Room was spacious and quiet. It is walking distance to several restaurants. The bathroom needs attention ASAP. It was very old and moldy. The mold and mildew had new caulk smeared all over. The corners of the tile floor were filthy in the bathroom.

The hotel was very quaint. It reminded me of one you would find in a Hallmark movie. The rooms were quiet, roomy and comfortable. This hotel needs updating and a good solid cleaning. While surface areas appeared clean, the corners and tops of molding were downright disgusting. We had hair behind the toilets and along the side in the corners. The shower didn't have hot water and the heater was either on or off (too hot or got cold), it didn't shut off on its own if turned on. Despite these couple of things, our stay was good. We had another party in a different room that didn't experience any of our problems. The hotel was full and they couldn't move us. I would stay here again, but would make sure that the heater worked and the shower got hot before settling in!

I think they need to install king size beds in their single bed rooms. They have queen beds. Next they need to put in room darkening shades they currently have inexpensive vinyl one inch mini blinds and the rooms are very bright in the morning when you are trying to get some sleep

This was a great find. Will definitely stay or recommend. Awesome location and good breakfast with 24 hour coffee service. Rooms were great with full kitchen overlooking the river. Stayed for 10 days and loved it.

There were renovations ongoing that they described ahead of time. I was surprised by how thin the walls were. I could easily hear every word of the conversation next door and they weren’t loud. It was clean, safe neighborhood, and close to where I needed to be. Cute little park on the river out back.

Notified about construction after confirming reservation, no breakfast except old prepackaged muffins with an apple in a bag. They charged my credit card upon arrival even after saying we wanted to split the charge upon check out. Room was clean, but very thin walls, so noisy. Over all I would not recommend or stay there again.

The room was good and clean, and the staff friendly and accommodating. I had stayed here before and liked it, particularly the breakfast: fruit, yoghurt, skim milk, cereal, eggs. A pretty good breakfast. This time, however, there was no fruit, and no yoghurt. I stayed four nights. On the third morning there was also no milk, although there was cereal. Only on my fourth morning was there fruit and yoghurt. Why it should take three nights for the hotel to be content with offering their guests a substandard breakfast (they were waiting for a shipment, they told me) is beyond me, especially with a supermarket a quarter mile away. In fact, that's where I went to buy what the hotel should have offered. I suggest that management be more attentive to their guests.

Notified about construction after confirming reservation, no breakfast except old prepackaged muffins with an apple in a bag. They charged my credit card upon arrival even after saying we wanted to split the charge upon check out. Room was clean, but very thin walls, so noisy. Over all I would not recommend or stay there again.

Thr Inn offered us a very convenient location for college tours. The parking was easy, and from the outside it looked great. The rooms were clean, but fairly dated. All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. One even printed out a document I had left at home. We did not know, until walking through the doors, that the hotel was under renovation, so we walked into a front area with stacks of boxes and materials. While we didnt hear any noise, our room was on the other side of the major renovation, so walked past open construction to get there. We booked the Inn because of convenience and the promise of hot breakfast. Unfortunately, due to renovations, the breakfast was a cold grab and go. I just wish we knew of those things in advance.

We like the Clarkson Inn for its convenience to our finale location. We also enjoy being able to park and get a meal right across the street at Maxfield's. This time the breakfast was a bit lacking. There was no hot meal as they ran out of propane. And the hot water was just warm.

Great, as always. The light bulbs in the lobby/lounge (really cold, stark, bright LED’s). Sorry, but they gotta go. Such an elegant space deserves better lighting.

On a night when the hotel was nowhere near full, I got put in a room next to some noisy young adults. This is probably some orderly way to fill in rooms, but on a weekend night in a college town, the staff could use a little more common sense.

Loved our stay here…perfectly situated within walking distance of all restaurants / bars and quaint shops in town, wonderful large room, excellent beds and good amenities. The staff were always available, kind and professional. Would definitely stay here again.
