Beautiful old hotel. I arrived to a beautiful old hotel lodge lobby. It’s lined with fantastic old pinewood panelled walls. The staircase was also quite nice to look at. The staff were very friendly and parking was easy. My room was clean, nice and warm. Good hot water pressure, comfortable bed and it was quiet at night. I used the Highland Hotel as a base to drive around the Upper Highlands for a few days. Definitely a great pick. I didn’t eat or drink at the Hotel, but the bar looked good with plenty of comfortable places to sit. I had a nice stay. 👍

The hotel is grand and getting on in years now. For instance the lift is ancient/quaint. However the room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel appeared to cater for a number of large coach parties so if you came down for breakfast at the wrong time the dining room was mobbed and you sometimes had to wait for some items. The staff were very pleasant and hard working and on occasion trying to keep up with the rush. Having said that overall we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel/Strathpeffer is very well situated for access to both the east and west coasts of the NC500 which is why we spend 2 nights here on the way out and one on the way back. A short drive to (maybe) see the dolphins at Chanonry Point and just 10 minutes to the Rogie Falls in the other direction.

Food offered for evening meal was limited, described wrongly on the menu, barely warm when it arrived. We weren't told about entertainment so it was a surprise that it kept us awake in our room on the second floor. The shower curtain was black mouldy and the soap dispenser didn't work. The lift was dodgy - I actually got stuck in it one evening. Notices are needed to remind other guests to be quiet in the corridors late at night and early morning. We were continually disturbed by other guests. To sum up, this hotel was not worth what we paid. I asked for a reduction when paying the bill but was refused.

Staff not as helpful or friendly as other hotels we stayed in during our trip to Scotland. When I notified the front desk that we had no TV remote in our room their response to correct the issue was none existent. The only elevator was not working during our stay which made moving luggage difficult to the second floor. Not many food options to choose from in the small town center.

I’ve had multiple stays here and it’s clean, welcoming and quiet, with good parking and comfortable rooms. Dining available onsite or nearby. Tour buses call in the summer but visitors are mainly elderly and calm. There’s sometimes hoochter-teuchtar or country and western music on in the foyer in the evening but if that’s not your thing, you can retreat to the quiet of your room or have a peaceful stroll in the village. Reasonably priced.

Outdated decor. My mountain view room was basic clean and comfortable however my colleagues family room had dirty tables and a little smelly. Dinner menu had very or no options, one fish, one veg and one meat option and thats it. The ingredients were or very poor quality. Only had the choice of scrambled eggs for breakfast thats all. Wifi signal in the rooms is very poor.

This hotel was nice and clean. It's a bit dated and needs a revamp in some rooms and main area. We used it as a family. It was busy with coach trips. We like being able to sit in the bar area with the kids, they played pool and there are some games available to play (bring your own dice) that was a nice evening. Apparently there was a ceilidh on the Saturday night but we didn't know about it, it's a good little spot downstairs for socialising.

Beautiful old building but with modern, basic rooms. Lovely dining hall and well maintained gardens, staff lovely. Windows unfortunately only partly opened - not ideal during our summer visit. Limited restaurant menu but other restaurants within walking distance. Bathroom a bit musty but the room was clean. Car parking very limited, priority seems to be coach tours. Overall good, would stay again, but not the best value for money at the price we paid.

Hotel is a grand building in a lovely setting. Breakfast is very good. Disappointed by the room cleanliness and standards. Our room smelled of cigarette smoke. The carpets hadn't been vacuumed and were quite stained and covered in fluffy, ooze, etc. Reported this to reception and no other rooms were available. As they said, they done the best they could to vacuum it. Didn't get rid of the smell of cigarettes though. Shame really as it is a reasonable hotel.

Located in a lovely village this hotel has seen better days. My room was grubby, the bathroom covered in mold and lots of dirty patches on walls and ceiling. Very limited facilities and services, rooms not serviced all week.

We booked this hotel for our anniversary stop on our 2 week long trip across Scotland. We got there and there was 4 tour buses of people, which is nobodys fault. We finally get to our room and it was NOT what was pictured. Mold on the shower head, bathroom light, all around the shower. Stained carpet, dated furniture. The smallest tv I've ever seen. Uncomfortable bed. You could see the hallway light all around the door so there was zero sound proofing. I'm not sure if the tour groups got the rooms like the ones pictured, but I was so disappointed.

Mildew around taps, fittings and shower head. Toilet not properly cleaned and light pull cord filthy. Top and bottom of bathroom bin dusty and dirty. With a very grand facade, this is a beautiful building in a lovely location. Handy for an overnighter on our way to catch the ferry to Ullapool the next morning. The staff were also great. However, our room was awful. We had a laugh about it as it was only for a night, but it was pretty grim. The walls were absolutely filthy, the window frame black with mould, the bathroom, while actually looking quite new and having all the mod cons, appeared neglected with the tiles in the shower showing signs of mould and the showerhead needing a good clean. The hairdryer was a real relic! As I say, fine for a night but don't expect anything more than you would find in a hostel. Also, to mention - the walls are paper thin. Could hear the people talking in the next room until about 4 in the morning. Could do with some serious investment and upgrading (even a lick of paint!) and it would be AMAZING! (Breakfast was good.)

This was clearly a classy hotel 50 - 70 years ago but is now in dire need of a refurb. Pros: Communal areas on ground floor of a high standard and very traditional. Friendly staff. Free parking. Cons: Bedrooms are of student accommodation standard. Corridors are scruffy and apart from the ground floor in a serious need of painting. Mould around shower screen. Bed was hard as nails. Both the shampoo and body wash dispensers were empty.

A really lovely hotel with an interesting history. The staff were absolutely lovely and really made the effort to look after us. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We had our evening meal in the hotel with delicious food and top notch service. Overall we really enjoyed our stay

The photos dont correspond to the conditions of the hotel. Everything was quite old and decrepit. The floors in the hallways were skew, the room has a unpleasant smell , and the ceiling had quite severe water damage. The sheets also were stained. Though the breakfast was quite pleasant and staff were kind. Overall, mediocre at best.

Booked 2 twin rooms. The first one was very small and felt extremely dated, however the second one was huge and airy with a very nice view of the village. The reception was next to the common area and there was live music when we showed up making it very hard to understand what the hotel staff were saying. Overall I guess it depends on your luck what type of room you get

Nice room could not have meals .. dinner ..because we did not have prearranged meals . Verystubborn on this even though the expedia said there were meals. They said there were 3 busses coming in.. We suggested we would go early as the place was empty. Parking very difficult. Suggested we go to another hotel ... No heat available. Was a nice room. Large elegant. But old. Shabby genteel we call this.

Although the hotel is old it is well kept…only issue was the walls were very thin and both nights I had a loud snoring person next door that kept me awake.

Staff were amazing and made the stay a plus, especially the food and beverage manager. Room was clean, but a few draw backs were the tv which was the size of a computer screen and the one tiny window about 1 foot in width that only opened 3 inches was a negative. Was a little warm and dark because of this. If you get this type of room consider asking for an upgrade. Breakfast was a bargain and definately worth it. Had a concern that for some reason, the wifi in this hotel wouldn't allow us to us LGBTQ apps which made us feel they were blocked which made us wonder if the community and or owner are extremely conservative which made us feel uncomfortable. Apps worked in every other part of town and all over Scotland except the hotel wifi.

With a very grand facade, this is a beautiful building in a lovely location. Handy for an overnighter on our way to catch the ferry to Ullapool the next morning. The staff were also great. However, our room was awful. We had a laugh about it as it was only for a night, but it was pretty grim. The walls were absolutely filthy, the window frame black with mould, the bathroom, while actually looking quite new and having all the mod cons, appeared neglected with the tiles in the shower showing signs of mould and the showerhead needing a good clean. The hairdryer was a real relic! As I say, fine for a night but don't expect anything more than you would find in a hostel. Also, to mention - the walls are paper thin. Could hear the people talking in the next room until about 4 in the morning. Could do with some serious investment and upgrading (even a lick of paint!) and it would be AMAZING! (Breakfast was good.)

Personnel lacked commitment. Breakfast fast was borderline, empty trays were not filled up when there was plenty of breakfast-time to go. This charming hotel sits on a hill above the town center. It has spectacular views from the rooms. The lobby, bar, sitting area downstairs is incredible with an old-time feeling. The rooms are basic but larger than expected. No a/c in the rooms though, just an open window.

Clean, simple room. Shower was ok, low on pressure. Biggest problem is the walls are paper thin. It was too hot but was fine with the window left open. Everything else was good, had a lovely stay.

Whilst the hotel could do with a little TLC it was enhanced by the super friendly staff and management. We were made very welcome by the manager and lady in reception and the night manager was also very friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable - we will be back !!

Staff not as helpful or friendly as other hotels we stayed in during our trip to Scotland. When I notified the front desk that we had no TV remote in our room their response to correct the issue was none existent. The only elevator was not working during our stay which made moving luggage difficult to the second floor. Not many food options to choose from in the small town center.

The night manager was very rude and did not want anyone sitting in the public space downstairs. He closed the bar early (before 10 up to 1/2 hour on one night). He threatened to have me arrested because I brought a bottle back to the hotel after eating at another restaurant. The bottle was in my coat pocket and he threatened to call the police and have me arrested if I was to drink from the bottle. He also said he was not going to lose his job for anyone. Definitely not a service oriented person.

A really lovely hotel with an interesting history. The staff were absolutely lovely and really made the effort to look after us. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We had our evening meal in the hotel with delicious food and top notch service. Overall we really enjoyed our stay

A busy hotel with several coach tours in. It was an expensive stay for one night and given the location, I expected to be eating in, but I was told at reception that the dining facility was fully booked and it was suggested that I look elsewhere. Another hotel was suggested as the best bet. I eventually sourced dinner at a local Chinese takeaway and when I got back to the hotel, it was clear that the 'fully-booked' restaurant had a mixture of a few guests and bus drivers sitting-in and plenty of empty tables. I'd have expected the staff to make just a little effort to fit in one more guest - but they didn't. The room was spacious and comfortable and the area quiet and safe. Breakfast was a lack-lustre affair. Catering for the bus loads of tourists, the waiters seemed lacking in motivation. The coffee was very weak and the range of choices extremely limited. No fruit salad on offer. There were some red berries which were not replenished and refills for the juices were slow to appear. All in, the stay was over-priced and appreciable dining was non-existent.

Beautiful old hotel. I arrived to a beautiful old hotel lodge lobby. It’s lined with fantastic old pinewood panelled walls. The staircase was also quite nice to look at. The staff were very friendly and parking was easy. My room was clean, nice and warm. Good hot water pressure, comfortable bed and it was quiet at night. I used the Highland Hotel as a base to drive around the Upper Highlands for a few days. Definitely a great pick. I didn’t eat or drink at the Hotel, but the bar looked good with plenty of comfortable places to sit. I had a nice stay. 👍

Property is very well located in town centre, parking was very easy around the property, 2 min walking distance from Morrisson's daily, a chinese takeaway and 2 cafe/bistro. Definitely recommend it if you're on your way of NC500.

The hotel is grand and getting on in years now. For instance the lift is ancient/quaint. However the room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel appeared to cater for a number of large coach parties so if you came down for breakfast at the wrong time the dining room was mobbed and you sometimes had to wait for some items. The staff were very pleasant and hard working and on occasion trying to keep up with the rush. Having said that overall we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel/Strathpeffer is very well situated for access to both the east and west coasts of the NC500 which is why we spend 2 nights here on the way out and one on the way back. A short drive to (maybe) see the dolphins at Chanonry Point and just 10 minutes to the Rogie Falls in the other direction.

A most pleasant surprise in the heart of the highlands. A gracious old building, welcoming staff, great rooms and good food all came together to make for a great stay. Would have liked to have spent a bit longer, but have flagged for a return visit once retired. Strathpeffer was a total surprise and made for an even nicer stay!

Oh dear catalogue of catastrophes. Room not finished. Food was appalling undercooked or overcooked only 3 choices for dinner. No red meat. Breakfast bacon was half cooked. Coffee lukewarm. Need to work harder to attract the right clientele.

We found it to be quite charming and relaxing. The only negative is their restaurant can't handle the number of guests the hotel can accommodate. We had to walk down the street and pick up Chinese food. That made the experience less than perfect

We had a very comfortable 1 night stay , clean room and good beds.The dinner was very good for this type of hotel ( not gourmet but very tasty and nicely presented). Service was friendly and excellent. The extensive lounge areas retain the Victorian splendour. The front facade and veranda are very tatty now sadly. The hotel caters for coach parties which would normally make the mealtimes more hectic but the Friday night we stayed was quiet. It comes down to value and expectations. There is not a massive choice in the area .

Tired Victorian hotel - unfortunately breakfast was limited and unremarkable definitely worth eating elsewhere - looked as if staff had put out half of what would normally be available (no yogurt, fresh fruit etc.) fried breakfast was fairly cold and staff not willing to prepare poached eggs to order. Room was fairly standard with soap dispenser not working properly and one of the most uncomfortable hotel mattresses I have ever slept on.

A very good mid-range hotel with adequate parking, comfortable, quiet rooms and friendly, helpful staff. If looking for an evening meal, book ahead. There are busloads of visitors at this time of year, and management seem to have difficulty fitting in one extra traveller at teatime.

This is an old Victorian hotel with character. It suited us because it's not modern and sterile like so many other hotels today. The room was comfortable and staff were friendly. We did not eat at the hotel so we can't comment on the food. The town is lovely to walk around with a couple of cafes and a small Morrison's grocery shop.

The hotel is in a very nice village and the staff were helpful and friendly . The hotel is a large old building and is in nerd of some TLC. The public areas also needed a good hoover . Areas of our room had not been dusted and the shower had to be cleaned before we felt comfortable for us to use it . It was a good shower though

The communal areas were decorated in keeping with a classic highland theme which was good. The room although clean and comfortable would benefit from modernisation. Breakfast was decent with a mix of fried and continental options. The car park was full when I arrived which was late evening to be fair and there was plenty of street parking around.
