Room was small but very clean. It was clear they had thought about everything that a traveller may need such as hairdryer, iron and ironing board, fan, and even ear plugs for the street noise. Upon arrival I had to enter via The Green Room and the door was opened.to me by a member of the public as it had been locked and there was no answer to me ringing the doorbell.

Really nice hotel downstairs with relaxed lobby area and good food. Rooms were disappointing. Not up to the standard expected. Not helped by hot weather, as no a/c and window did not open sufficiently to allow enough air in. Fan provided but all it really did was move hot air around room. Never stayed in such a hot room! Slept terribly as a result. Would probably be fine in colder weather. Shame, as staff were friendly, service good and really nice atmosphere downstairs.

The hotel is centrally located, with an NCP car park across the road, the rooms were smartly decorated, clean, with quality linen and towels. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very tasty, with quality products. Highly recommended

Really lovely property. Friendly staff. Room was comfy and had aircon. Overall a 5 star stay. Would not hesitate to stay again. Great value too. The only thing was, the King Room I stayed in was over the dining room, it was enclosed within the conservatory, which mean the lights from that space were directly in the same "space". Hard to explain but it meant the bedroom was really bright through all the windows. That room could really do with better fitting curtains and even black out blinds.

Check in was great. Room was a little quirky and a bit mismatched but bed was very comfortable and a great shower. If you want a quiet night this is not the hotel for you. Music was thumping through the room from the time we got there until very late. We were encouraged to pay for breakfast the next morning and although the food was good the service was not great and the coffee was awful. The poor young lady on reception was trying her best and very pleasant but can not see to guests in the dining room and people checking out at the same time. We had to ask for more coffee and would have liked to been offered more toast or a pastry but it didn’t happen.

I booked this simply for the price and town centre location, but it turned out to be more of a gem than this. Hotel is attached to a classy restaurant which is worth making part of your stay. Rooms were smart, clean and well resourced. The breakfast was superb and in a wonderful environment. A bit of low background noise from the restaurant but ended about 11pm. You need to use public pay car parks, but is about a 15 minutes walk from either of Colchester's train stations.

Made to very welcome by all the friendly and professional team. That was really appreciated as I was travelling by myself. Great atmosphere in bar area & space to get work done too. Bed, towels & linen very comfortable. Some road nose as centre to town location.

I had a really pleasant stay. The bed was comfortable and clean, the breakfast was lovely, and all the staff from housekeeping to the servers to the shift managers were delightful. The room was a bit tired, but I didn’t mind that. The only downside was unfortunately I was there during a heatwave. There’s no air on and my room was east facing so was roasting from dawn. I had a fan in the room, which helped, but it was quite uncomfortable and on a noisy road so couldn’t keep window open at night. If I’d stayed on any of the other 51 weeks of the year when it’s cold, it would have been absolutely fine.

Friendly reception staff, room had all the essentials, bathroom with excellent shower, and great made-to-order breakfast. I only stayed for a night but would happily go back if in that area in the future. The only thing I think they should address is the lack of clarity as to how to get in -- via the Green Room entrance, not the one by the hotel sign (which was locked).

Just had a one night stay to take a look round the City, perfect choice of Hotel, ciuld not have picked anywhere better. Just 5 minutes walk into the High street, 10 minutes to Station. Excellent staff, good breakfast and everywhere in the Hotel exceptionally clean would definately recommend.

The hotel was well-situated close to town. Staff were friendly. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. However, the weather was very cold, and the heater didn't seem to work - I should have asked. The worst drawback, was that the front entry system was very difficult to access, and needs upgrading asap.

Nice comfortable hotel an easy walking distance from everything in Colchester. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good quality. I liked the fact that breakfast is 'a la carte', as that reduces wastage. Cleanliness is good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

The hotel is on the main road, so can be quite loud outside at times but they provide ear plugs (I travel with my own and with an eye mask in case places are loud and bright). I was worried about the bed as I'd read a review that said they were super soft, but apart from being a little softer than I'd personally choose it was fine and I slept well.

Friendly welcome. Tidy well proportioned room. Some street noise but not enough to interfere with good comfortable nights sleep. Rooms away from street available. Nice clean bathroom with very efficient shower. Breakfast served to table arrived as order and good quality. Again staff curteous efficient and well presented. Will stay there again.

Room was clean and reasonably comfortable, though rather small and I found it rather stuffy at night (though an electric fan was available in the room). Hotel is fairly central, convenient if arriving at Colchester Town Station and for town centre. It's not luxury but reasonable value for what I paid. Staff seemed quite welcoming too.

We stayed at North Hill hotel during a warm weekend so needed the window open for air. Unfortunately directly outside the window was some kind of extractor fan or generator than ran at changing volumes and rhythms, all night- it was essentially like listening to a washing machine on spin cycle with no end. Add this to the old-style sprung mattress where when sharing you feel every movement the other person makes, plus a wired phone that for some reason illuminates the entire room (enough to read by) at unknown intervals, and sleep was pretty elusive. It’s a shame as the room and bathroom were pretty spacious and extremely clean, plus in a really convenient location. Fine for heavy sleepers, I’d imagine- otherwise I wouldn’t recommend.

Lovely little hotel close to shops, bars, restaurants etc. Clean room, great shower & beautiful breakfast. Only downside to my room was that WiFi really bad so couldn't do any work & TV remote functions didn't work on most buttons.

Location is great. Rooms at the front of property are noisy, traffic and late night passersby. Manager very helpful and friendly. Yes, I would stay there again but would request a Room on the back as I am a light sleeper.

I booked the single room and it was very small and felt like a school dorm.The wardrobe, tables and TV all felt very basic. The bathroom was ok, small again but the main issue I had with my stay was the noise from the corridor and the room above. The room was also hot. No aircon. I stayed in room 6. Any rooms above you will be potentially noisy, It is the nature of the building thats all. ( you hear everything) The bed was too soft and not a good comfy matress. Sadly it was not a great stay.

House keeping came in 3 times, 7.30, 9.30 and again at 10.30. On each occasion she was asked not to come back as not required. The last visit she didn’t even knock and came straight in. I wasn’t happy and she was getting me stressed as I was vacating at 11. Other than that my stay was lovely.

The room was great. Very clean. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The hotel is on the main road, so can be quite loud outside at times but they provide ear plugs (I travel with my own and with an eye mask in case places are loud and bright). I was worried about the bed as I'd read a review that said they were super soft, but apart from being a little softer than I'd personally choose it was fine and I slept well.

I’m had a single room and the bed was comfy . Unfortunately there seemed to be no soundproofing and I was kept awake by guy downstairs coughing and guy above pacing up and down all night . We were told that breakfast would be served between 07.30 and 10.30 am , so I and my son and his partner arrived in dinning hall at 09.30 am , after taking our order for a full English breakfast , the waiter returned minutes later to say that the chef had gone and that we were to late . Despite other guests also insisting that reception had given them same breakfast times as us the staff continued to blame us all for being late ! Such a shame as I’ve heard good reviews about the food , we all left feeling hungrey .

Friendly welcome. Tidy well proportioned room. Some street noise but not enough to interfere with good comfortable nights sleep. Rooms away from street available. First time at the North Hill Hotel and if I'm in Colchester again then I will definitely book here! Professional, friendly, clean, and close to the town centre (and a 15 min walk from Colchester's main train station). I didn't eat in the evening but the beer was great, the service lovely, and the breakfast in the morning was as good as I've ever had. Highly recommended

Check in was great. Room was a little quirky and a bit mismatched but bed was very comfortable and a great shower. If you want a quiet night this is not the hotel for you. Music was thumping through the room from the time we got there until very late. We were encouraged to pay for breakfast the next morning and although the food was good the service was not great and the coffee was awful. The poor young lady on reception was trying her best and very pleasant but can not see to guests in the dining room and people checking out at the same time. We had to ask for more coffee and would have liked to been offered more toast or a pastry but it didn’t happen.

Just had a one night stay to take a look round the City, perfect choice of Hotel, ciuld not have picked anywhere better. Just 5 minutes walk into the High street, 10 minutes to Station. Excellent staff, good breakfast and everywhere in the Hotel exceptionally clean would definately recommend.

The hotel was well-situated close to town. Staff were friendly. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. However, the weather was very cold, and the heater didn't seem to work - I should have asked. The worst drawback, was that the front entry system was very difficult to access, and needs upgrading asap.

I booked this simply for the price and town centre location, but it turned out to be more of a gem than this. Hotel is attached to a classy restaurant which is worth making part of your stay. Rooms were smart, clean and well resourced. The breakfast was superb and in a wonderful environment. A bit of low background noise from the restaurant but ended about 11pm. You need to use public pay car parks, but is about a 15 minutes walk from either of Colchester's train stations.

Nice comfortable hotel an easy walking distance from everything in Colchester. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good quality. I liked the fact that breakfast is 'a la carte', as that reduces wastage. Cleanliness is good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

I arrived to my room to find the curtains didn't work. I requested a different room the guy told me there were no other rooms. I then went online and there were indeed loads of rooms still for sale. I got given a worse room, but the curtains were fucntional so that was good. Bed not comfortable. I wouldn't be back nor would I recommend. Looks like it has potential but needs an upgrade and some staff training.

Les gros problèmes de cet hôtel sont : - En cas de chaleur, la chambre est suffocante, malgré un ventilateur ayant été installé pour réduire la température. Impossible d'ouvrir la fenêtre qui ne peut être qu'entre ouverte. - Le bruit. Hôtel bruyant notamment aux moments où les occupants utilisent les toilettes ou les douches. Les cloisons ne dont pas assez épaisses. Les bruits de la rue également. Il n'y a pas de double vitrage et la fenêtre ne ferme pas complètement. Autrement les petits déjeuners très bien et personnel accueillant. Bien situé dans le centre ville.

I enjoyed my stay. The hotel was clean, and it had basic tea coffee, kettle, water and wash lotion etc. No lift, which i did find hard as i have health condition. The signage could be improved, as its not obvious that the lounge is the front door. The main sign for the hotel is in front of two grey doors, whuch apparently are for the laundry! I didn't have breakfast as didnt feel well. I would stay again, it was close to theatre.

Gaining entry and checking in eas was more complicated than it needed to be. The walls in my bedroom were paper thin and I could here absolutely every thing from the room next door, the squeak in the mattress everyone the occupant turned over, the headboard banging against the wall, every movement that was made. To top it off I was looking forward to eating in the property only to discover that the chef had gone AWOL. The best thing about my stay was I was only there for 1 night
