The staff are great, this is not about them. I checked in at 3.30 and was told dinner would finish at 8.30. I had spent the day in hospital with my mum and got back to the hotel at 7.45 to be told the kitchen was closed for residents as they were catering for a function. This is not what you want to hear when there is nowhere close by to eat. The rooms are basic. TV signal is poor, phone reception is weak. There was no milk for tea or coffee and the only way to make a cup of tea was to heat water through the coffee machine. No iron. Parking tricky because of the function with limited spaces. No aircon and windows with limited openings. Considering this hotel is calling itself a "boutique hotel" it has less facilities than a Premiere Inn.

Have to say the hotel is great. However, make sure you get a permit for parking on arrival. I signed and left my car reg with the receptionist and I though that was all that was needed. Unfortunately it isnt. You do need a valid permit. I was not given the permit and subsequently got a 60.00 fine!

Please make it more obvious that there are no lifts in the hotel and stairs are required to get to the building from outside and parking is on a steep hill etc. I am heavily pregnant and all of the above caused a lot of pain and distress.

Lovely relaxed place to stay. The reception, bar, breakfast area all spotless and exceptional service from all members of the staff team. We loved the help yourself area on each floor - it contained fresh milk in the fridge along with tunnocks chocolate snacks. There were top ups for your tea/coffee making area and plenty of biscuits too. The room was clean and well maintained. Really comfy bed, a Nespresso type coffee machine with free pods, TV, loads of plug sockets,bathrobes.... The bathroom had a huge shower and twyfords toilet and sink. (Proper stuff). Suburb location so nice a quite. Breakfast was great... all the continental stuff you could wish for and a hot option ordered from the menu. I had the full English my wife had eggs Benedict. But lots of other options available. Only downside, there is no lift as its an old building but the ground floor has plenty of accessible rooms. All in all a fantastic place to stay, if we return to Sheffield this is where we will stay.

There is not a lift and you dont know that before you arrive. Ex Hall of Residence and seems it gut its clean, bed comfortable, plenty of biscuits and top ups. Overall good

Parking was appalling. There were cars parked all along the road leading to the front door of the hotel making it impossible to drive up to the hoyel when another car was coming down the road.

Check in very good and quick. Parking a bit hit and miss and would expect there to be problems if the hotel was full. Very clean room and excellent bathroom. Everything worked as it should. Would stay here again without a second thought.

Overall pleasant but not outstanding place to stay. No lifts so might be a disadvantage for some. Staff friendly enough but at breakfast sat for 30 minutes waiting for someone to order hot food which never happened and when finally someone emerged they had closed the kitchen. Coffee machine in bedroom has free refills in communal corridor which is where fridge is - all great if anyone explains that, which they didn't at check in. If like me you need a fridge for medications then not fab! Only fridge is the one for milk in corridor.

Booked last minute for a meeting in Sheffield. Low price and lovely little room. I wasn't aware it was next to university halls though so be aware on weekends I imagine it gets rowdy as the bar in the hotel is open 24 hours (I was told on check in). Also note the car park is small, I arrived at 9pm and struggled to park having to do 2 loops, they'll give you a permit at reception to pop in your windscreen. However all in all a decent hotel for what I paid. The bed was a tad hard for me after a 4 hour drive but that's my own preference. Room was small but clean with a king bed and all amenities you need. Refill stations on each floor for fresh milk and biscuits. Breakfast was included with what I paid but unfortunately my meeting moved forward and hour at last minute so I couldn't give it a go, the biscuits at the refill station were a welcome touch for a breakfast on the go though. Staff were friendly and welcoming and if I were here again for a meeting I would return. Only side note for people is there's no lift, so if you have a lot of bags or struggle with mobility it's worth taking note of.

Staff very friendly and professional. The hotel itself is a little tired and one of the corridors smelled of stale cigarettes but the room did not . Had a lovely ground floor room overlooking the garden . Would stay again if in area .

Staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to park up and check in early. The hotel was warm and welcoming, our room comfortable, clean and well equipped. Our breakfast was excellent.

Although situated in University grounds, the hotel was very quiet. High standard of décor and furnishings. Comfortable bed, coffee machine in bedroom and excellent breakfast. Staff polite and attentive. Halifax Hall sits in a leafy suburb of Sheffield, with the Botanical Gardens and the wonderful Endcliffe Park within short walking distance. Good choice of restaurants, again within walking distance.

Stayed here many times and like this hotel a lot. However just stayed 2 nights and the room did not get serviced after the first night.. Quite disappointing. Good cooked breakfast. Will continue to stay here on my trips to Sheffield

The hotel gave a bad vibe upon arrival. Car park was dismal and reception staff admitted they had experienced break ins. Room was not clean with previous occupants poo waiting to greet us in the toilet. Having stayed in some rare hotels in the past in war zones and third world countries, this place really does rank as the worst. Despite it being late and pre-booked, we chose to leave and stay elsewhere. Certainly would not recommend.

Only stayed 1 night have to say the Hotel itself is so lovely, very friendly and super clean, the room and facilities perfect loved the tea coffee and treats table if your looking for some where with a difference I can’t recommend Halifax more highly Thankyou to all for making my stay so special

A delightful overnight stay in gem of a hotel! We traveled up from London and arrived quite late in the evening, we were greeted with such warmth and good hospitality. Cleanliness was key and this little gem was immaculate! The carpets had no stains the bathroom was spotless. The bed was comfy for a good nights sleep. Breakfast was lovely with a selection of cooked breakfasts to a nice healthy continental choice of fruits and yogurts. Overall we had such a pleasant experience and I would definitely book again when visiting Sheffield! If cleanliness is key I would highly recommend staying here.

The staff are always helpful and it's in a nice area. We arrived late Sunday afternoon and found that there was much debris remaining from the previous day, glasses not even cleared, cigarette butts lying around and the garden not tidied. This was a major detractor from the hotel ambiance.

Wonderful staff and hotel. Good choice at Breakfast. My only gripe - and I mentioned it when I stayed last time is the pillows. They are awful and affected the quality of my night's sleep. For a minor adjustment this hotel would be superb. Thank you

Smallish room but lovely modern bathroom. Staff were lovely. Food ( breakfast and evening meal) were high standard. Grounds were lovely and in easy walking distance of Botanical Gardens. Excellent.

We were continually disturbed by the doo outside our room until the early hours and then from very early on a Sunday morning. The doors had self closers which slammed the doors shut. We should have been warned.

The room was a little small but beautifully decorated and extremely clean. They has left a small window open to ley cool air in since this hotel does not have AC and it has been a bit hot.

We stayed 2 nights and found the hotel clean and comfortable, though the shower wasn't very powerful. The hotel is located on the site of university accommodation and there was some late night/early morning noise and shouting from students returning from nights out but this was not too much of a problem. Our first breakfast was superb - hot, well presented, and extremely tasty, but on the second morning it was a little disappointing (perhaps a different chef?) - not quite hot enough, a little dry and over cooked, and less attractively presented. We ate in the bar one evening and found the food there to be of good quality and reasonably priced. Overall the staff were pleasant and helpful, though the reception staff seemed a little off-hand, especially at check-in. All in all we would recommend the hotel for a short stay.

Best feature was probably the staff, followed by the food. Breakfast is served in what looks like the employee cafeteria at an insurance company, which was perfectly fine except that every other room adjoining the lobby is gorgeous, so it seemed an odd choice. This place is quite affordable, though, so my only substantial complaint is the size of the standard room. If you are alone, or traveling with just a couple overnight bags, you’ll be fine, but we had two full-size suitcases and there wasn’t nearly enough floor space to open both at the same time. The bathroom, though, is surprisingly large.

This was our 2nd stay at Halifax Hall and it didn't disappoint. Check in was sorted quickly by the friendly staff who provided us with all the information needed for our stay. The room was very spacious and clean. There was ample wardrobe space with a safe and 2 dressing gowns. The bathroom (shower) was spacious and well supplied with soap, shower gell and shampoo. The excellent Breakfast was served in the restaurant. A very pleasant stay.we will definitely return.

The staff were excellent. The room has a lovely comfy bed and a fab shower. There were only 2 small issues really. The first is there is no lift, which was not a problem for us but for anyone with difficulty walking it might be. Also , the room was very warm and had no air con….again not a big issue in September but might be more in June / July.

This was our first stay at at the Halifax Hall Hotel. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean, with a very large bathroom. It was near reception but we never heard a sound during the night. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. The reception staff on duty as we checked out were very helpful. My car wouldn't start and they did all they could to assist me. We will certainly return to this hotel in the future.
This was our first stay at at the Halifax Hall Hotel. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. An eclectic stay; not a “boutique” hotel, needs a good Manager to guide the enthusiastic staff. Breakfast was interesting (not enough staff) but dinner and service in the restaurant was very good. Bar had no ice as machine was broken, but common sense would have bought some in from a supermarket! Having said that, safe parking and good location for our stay.

Stayed at the Halifax for 2 nights b&b. Great clean 1st impression, confirmed by great room, very clean, peaceful throughout the night and a wonderful HOT breakfast the following mornings, would definitely stay again. Fantastic friendly staff, ALL OF THEM .

We really enjoy staying at this hotel. It is very friendly and in a lovely area. This time we were just a little frustrated with the wifi - it was difficult to get any and seemed sketchy. Also, at breakfast our order was taken but it took at least 30 mins for our breakfast to arrive. We had to ask why we were waiting so long as other diners were served promptly. The server did apologise but then forgot to bring my husbands sauce and needed asking again. The food was delicious when it came. There was also a good choice on the breakfast servers. Also, a small point, the cups for tea are quite small and so I had to keep going back to the machine to refill my cup ( and use another tea bag). A larger mug or a teapot would be more economical and better for the diner. I would stay here again as overall it is lovely.

This was our 2nd stay at Halifax Hall and it didn't disappoint. Check in was sorted quickly by the friendly staff who provided us with all the information needed for our stay. The room was very spacious and clean. There was ample wardrobe space with a safe and 2 dressing gowns. The bathroom (shower) was spacious and well supplied with soap, shower gell and shampoo. The excellent Breakfast was served in the restaurant. A very pleasant stay.we will definitely return.

Great hotel, friendly staff, and lots of dining options around. Quite close to Peak District. Area surrounding hotel is the University of Sheffield and it’s a gorgeous campus. Gets a little creepy at night but didn’t find it unsafe. Need to press the buzzer to take your car into the parking lot.

Although situated in University grounds, the hotel was very quiet. High standard of décor and furnishings. Comfortable bed, coffee machine in bedroom and excellent breakfast. Staff polite and attentive. Halifax Hall sits in a leafy suburb of Sheffield, with the Botanical Gardens and the wonderful Endcliffe Park within short walking distance. The staff are great, this is not about them. I checked in at 3.30 and was told dinner would finish at 8.30. I had spent the day in hospital with my mum and got back to the hotel at 7.45 to be told the kitchen was closed for residents as they were catering for a function. This is not what you want to hear when there is nowhere close by to eat. The rooms are basic. TV signal is poor, phone reception is weak. There was no milk for tea or coffee and the only way to make a cup of tea was to heat water through the coffee machine. No iron. Parking tricky because of the function with limited spaces. No aircon and windows with limited openings. Considering this hotel is calling itself a "boutique hotel" it has less facilities than a Premiere Inn.

Smallish room but lovely modern bathroom. Staff were lovely. Food ( breakfast and evening meal) were high standard. Grounds were lovely and in easy walking distance of Botanical Gardens. Excellent.

We loved it here. Great location in a really nice part of the city. The staff were really friendly, the breakfast was really good, best of all was the Nespresso coffee machine in the room. Really nice place.

We stayed 2 nights and found the hotel clean and comfortable, though the shower wasn't very powerful. The hotel is located on the site of university accommodation and there was some late night/early morning noise and shouting from students returning from nights out but this was not too much of a problem. Our first breakfast was superb - hot, well presented, and extremely tasty, but on the second morning it was a little disappointing (perhaps a different chef?) - not quite hot enough, a little dry and over cooked, and less attractively presented. We ate in the bar one evening and found the food there to be of good quality and reasonably priced. Overall the staff were pleasant and helpful, though the reception staff seemed a little off-hand, especially at check-in. All in all we would recommend the hotel for a short stay.

Only one hot breakfast choice is allowed so e.g. you cannot have porridge and a full English. The restaurant was not open in the evening so cannot comment about dinner. The hotel is part of Sheffield University and it looks snd feels academic. The grounds were pretty though. Would not stay here again.

Clean room and a large shower. Impressed by towelling robe being supplied and loved the self service top up station for coffee tea milk sugar and biscuits. Had a really good coffee machine too. The breakfast was amazing help yourself continental style breakfast plus a menu for a fresh cooked to order breakfast which was cooked to perfection. Staff extremely helpful and nothing too much trouble. Would definitely recommend
