This place is a hidden gem. When I look for a hotel pools are not my motivation. This hotel has no pools or breakfast. What it does have is a nice, safe, clean, private and comfortable room. A great bed and a shower that I wish I had at home. Powerful and hot and awesome. The owner is a great guy who really cares about his hotel. We try to stay at this hotel whenever we are in Va Beach.

The gentleman at the front desk greeted me promptly upon arrival and was friendly, pleasant, & attentive. Both check-in and check-out was quick & easy. The property is quaint, clean, well-maintained, & located in a quiet neighborhood convenient to our relatives' house nearby. The shower in our room was great, lots of flow & plenty of hot water. Wi-Fi and TV was good. Parking was a bit tight though for our full-sized pick-up truck, but was doable. And, the queen bed was a bit small for us (we're used to our full-king at home) but comfortable. We'll definitely stay here again when we visit the area.

The room was clean, nicely renovated, the bed was confortable. We really appreciated the fridge and the microwave stove. The staff was amazing! They took care of our beach towels and because they were all soaked because of the rain there washed it! Wow! And bonus we ate our breakfasts on a garden table! We recommend this place and we would definitely return!

We stayed for 1 night on our way to Delaware. This is a smalller, family run motel that has a great location and friendly owners. The room met our expectations, as it was very clean, although not overly spacious. The small refrigerator kept our items very cold and the freezer section froze our cold packs. It's been our experience in the past that these small refrigerators just barely keep food cold, so this was grear. The courtyard was nice too, although we didn't sit outside.

We were staying at the hotel because my daughter was suffering from mold sensitivity. When we checked into our room, the smell of mold/mildew was overpowering. I don’t have sensitivity to mold and it nearly knocked me to my knees! Horrible!!!

Room wasn’t cleaned. Staff was rude. I walk into the room and there was old coffee still in the pot and trash in the trashcan. 1/5 stars. Don’t waste your money here.

I googled ‘cleanest motel in Norfolk’ and all the reviews about the Bay Inn were so positive! Sure enough, it was super clean and also affordable. The owners/staff are amazing and the property is lovely - we have already booked it again for next week when we come back to town!

This was my second time staying at the Bay Inn, and it is a pretty little hotel with a hidden courtyard that is conveniently located near the beach and for me, near my family who live in the area. The rooms look out on the lovely courtyard, which has outdoor seating. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are extremely clean and have all the amenities I want: fridge, microwave, coffee/tea machine, a blow dryer and an iron. It is cozy and I have enjoyed staying there and I plan to visit again soon.

I have stayed at the Bay Inn many times and it has always been a reasonably priced motel that is very clean, safe, and convenient. The owner/manager lives on-site, and they are very helpful.

The owner and his wife were lovely, friendly, and accommodating hosts. The room was renovated and extremely clean. The bed was very comfortable, and the refrigerator was larger than normal, with a separate freezer section. The property was clean, quiet, and well kept. Parking was very convenient, right behind the building. The price is more than reasonable, and they deserve the high rating they have. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and highly recommend The Bay Inn!!

It was easy enough checking in and out, it was a nice, clean room as described: microwave oven, iron and board, and mini-fridge included. It was affordable and honestly everything was better than expected especially considering its close access to the water. It's central to the area, not too out of the way and offers a private inner courtyard which was nice.The owners/staff were very accommodating, informative and friendly. If I'm ever back in the area, I'll be sure to book again!

This is a one -story building 2 blocks from the water, so the ocean view is a complete lie. But the room was immaculately clean, and it's walking distance to a grocery store, restaurants, a coffee shop, and a bar or two. Quiet neighborhood as well. Very small place without many amenities, and bed made a lot of noise.

This hotel is a bit of throwback of the motor lodges of yesteryear: but it's ultra-modern. All rooms have been completely remodeled from top to bottom. Absolutely perfect find. A 90 second walk to the beach (Norfolk Beaches) which is almost an isolated area its self. Nothing like Va Beach or OC Md where people are on top of each other - we were 100 yards from the closest family AND they have lifeguards. The owner showed me around the property - takes great pride in what he and his wife have and is very friendly. Back to the property: It's low profile and although almost hidden from sight - its on the main road. Even has a well- cared for courtyard enclosed within the square shape of the property. Perfect area to let the kids safely stretch their legs, plenty of seating. plants: i just can't say enough about The Bay Inn in Norfolk and owners. Honestly, after traveling and staying in literally, every sort of property for 40 years, these independent owners have completely outdone them all. I will unequivocally come back, and back and back. Loved it!

Easy to find, great location directly at the beach, easy parking, super nice and helpful staff, room was clean, Wifi worked great, the room had a small fridge, a microwave, a coffee machine, a nice TV and a really nice renovated bathroom with a beautiful shower. and the inside of the bay inn has beautiful flowers and greenery, really nice! I would not hesitate and book this again when I am back in the area!

Check in was nice and easy. Everyone incredibly nice on the property. Room was super clean and well kept. Parking lot is a bit small but efficient. Easy access to beach. If I had anything negative to say it would be that the beds are a bit stiff, but overall not bad at all! I definitely recommend staying here

First visit--this really is a gem at the price. Old building but very well maintained and some modern touches--like a bathroom mirror so high tech I'm a little scared of it :-). Fridge is big enough to be useful and freezer works. Everything is clean, check-in and parking are convenient, courtyard is sheltered and has chairs, wifi is reliable, everything works. The neighborhood behind is a bonus: old homes with kids playing everywhere, looks potentially great for getting some exercise away from traffic. Bed is modern and comfy. More than adequately powerful heat/AC blows right on the bed: I know some people don't like that but there's no other way it can be with the building design--and there's a heatwave on and I'm grateful for it.

Overall it was not a bad stay. Pro's: Room was clean Check-in was easy The person who checked me in attempted to accommodate my needs Cons: Trying to take a shower at night/early was not possible. The water would take a half hour to heat up Wifi was okay, not great The biggest con and I don't care if they try to deny it. One of them went into my room while I was gone less than 24 hours into my stay. There is no call for this and I don't care what excuse they give.

It was pleasant if not extraordinary. The gentleman at check in desk was mildly rude and short with me in check in and check out. A free continental breakfast or free muffin and juice would have been nice. Loud voices in courtyard just feet from my room kept me awake late into the night. A sign to let visitors know that is inappropriate would have been good.

As a frequent traveler i must say my lady and i enjoyed this stay very much. The personal touch by the owners was nice. They made us feel at home. Truly felt like family. Will be back thanks for a great experience..

Staff was amazing. I called saying I would not be in until late. Their front desk is normally closed at that time. On the phone he told me when I got there to dial on the phone and someone would come up to the desk. Told them what time I would be there and he was at the desk waiting for me and chuckled I was 6 minutes early. Such geat service!

The building is older but don't let it fool you. A quaint 60's era motel that is remodeled and up to date inside with the outside feel of a 1960s mom and pop motel. This is going to be my permanent stop when visiting Norfolk. Nick and his wife are great. The Bay Inn is a family run business and you're treated like family when you stay here. Nick let me know if there were any problems on the property just let him know and he would take care of it. But I never had any problems. We stayed 5 days and wouldn't have had a problem staying 5 more. Nick, it was great meeting you and your wife and I can't wait until we come back to Norfolk to visit again!!

Nick was great at check-in. Very friendly, thorough and polite. His wife keeps the rooms and was very clean and comfortable on my arrival and throughout my stay. I will definitely stay here next time I'm in town and recommend to others.

First of all, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. But the furnishings and decor could be described as lacking in warmth (all hard surfaces and sharp corners), which applies to the way I was received by the host when I arrived. My arrival was late (11 pm) after a long day of traveling, but well before the deadline for check-in (12 am). But when I picked up the desk phone (which then rings to call the host) the man who appeared offered no welcome or greeting. Rather he seemed annoyed by my arrival, chiding me for not hanging up the phone soon enough. It was perhaps the coldest reception I've ever had at a hotel or inn.

Really displeased with my checkout- since I'm using a hotel because I'm out of town, I used my last 30 minutes to figure out where I needed to go, the best route, etc. Precisely at 11 am, there was a very hard knock at my door. I opened it, and there was a man just leaving- I didn't know initially what it was about, so when I looked confused at him, he pointed at his watch and said, "checkout is at 11." While he has a point, I thought he could have handled it in a much more polite and courteous way- how did he know I wasn't having an emergency? I've stayed in a lot of hotels, and this was the rudest experience I've had- the inn itself is clean, but this left a really bad taste in my mouth. I will definitely not stay here again, and would not recommend it to others.

Oh my goodness! This little inn was quaint, clean, adorable & just across the street from a quiet beach area. The area is walkable, & there are some good places to eat. The bed was super comfy. The room was very clean. The gentleman who checked us in was so nice. Just a wonderful little place!

A little gem in Ocean View. I needed something simple for a quick overnight between OBX and Philadelphia and the Bay Inn in Ocean View is perfect. close to the Bay Bridge Tunnel. This property was great! The room was clean and nice! It also had the right amount of space. It was a block or so from the ocean which was nice since you didn’t have to drive. Close to local eateries and was a great price! It’s also only 30 minutes from Virginia Beach if you wanted to go down there. Definitely would stay here again. Quiet and all around more our atmosphere compared to VB. Plus the price is amazing. Now will just have to find a place to bring our pup next time since this place does not accept dogs at the moment.

The outside looks a little outdated but inside the rooms are cozy and quite nice. It was the outside that concerned me. I walked to a nearby McDonald's and saw several sketchy individuals wandering around, one was screaming gibberish at a library window. When I walked to the beach (which is easy walking distance so that's a plus) another started following me until she realized I was watching her so she scurried off. The hotel was great, just keep your head on a swivel if you go for a walk.

This place is a hidden gem. When I look for a hotel pools are not my motivation. This hotel has no pools or breakfast. What it does have is a nice, safe, clean, private and comfortable room. A great bed and a shower that I wish I had at home. Powerful and hot and awesome. The owner is a great guy who really cares about his hotel. We try to stay at this hotel whenever we are in Va Beach.

It was pleasant if not extraordinary. The gentleman at check in desk was mildly rude and short with me in check in and check out. A free continental breakfast or free muffin and juice would have been nice. Loud voices in courtyard just feet from my room kept me awake late into the night. A sign to let visitors know that is inappropriate would have been good.

Loved the management The location was 150 yards to the beach. The management helped us us when we arrived early. Suggested us a breakfast location. Breakfast was excellent.. manager phoned us when room ready. They went over and above. Loved it.

Loved The Bay. It’s across the street from the beach in a cute residential area with restaurants wihin walking distance. The folks running it are super friendly and we enjoyed meeting their dog. Although It’s an older motel, It’s completely renovated and well cared for. The bed was comfy and the room had a microwave and refrigerator with a small freezer. We plan to return next year for the same event.

The Bay Inn was very convenient for the price and was very neat. It is clear the owners care about the appearance of the hotel and I would stay here again in a heartbeat. We walked to dinner at the Ocean View Fishing Pier one night and to an Italian place another night. 10/10!

Best value for the money. I found it better than the Best Western down the road. A motor inn style from the 60's but kept up to date. All rooms open into a courtyard. The owners live on site. A very safe place. The best part, the freezer in the mini fridge is separate and actually works. This place does not have the amenities of the big name hotels but at this price you shouldn't expect it. You get clean, no odors, no bugs, quiet and safe rooms at a great price.

Cute little motel two blocks from an uncrowded beach. Looks like it was recently remodeled. We had two issues during our stay: 1. The AC would always turn off when we left the room, so when we came back it was hot and stuffy. Even with the AC on, it always seemed a little damp in the room. 2. We had no hot water in the shower the night before and morning of our departure. They said it's an old building so it takes a little longer, but after about 5 minutes of running it, it was still cold. It also had zero water pressure. Overall, not terrible, and the location and price made up a little for the issues we had.

The Bay Inn absolutely exceeded our expectations. The husband/wife couple who run the inn are so kind and welcoming. We chatted about their garden, met their dog, and said hi every morning of our stay. The room was clean and comfortable, and in a fantastic location. My friend and I would love to stay here again!
