Stayed in one of the courtyard rooms as part of a group of friends. Good base for touring, and decent breakfast in the mornings, served by a lovely lady. Room and bathroom were adequate in size, with the usual amenities such as kettle, tea/coffee/biscuits, shampoo and shower gel. I was slightly surprised to find a chair in the wardrobe. The bed had feather pillows and cushions, which is unusual, and although I'd prefer non-allergenic ones I decided to live with them. The air freshener in the room was very pungent but the staff were happy to remove it. The courtyard area is really pretty, with flower beds and bistro-style tables and chairs for guests. The bed looked quite old, but was still comfy to sleep on. Also, there was quite a bit of noise from the pub late on, which I thought was karaoke but may have just been very happy guests having a sing-song. The hotel has quite a small car park for the number of rooms, but on-street parking might be available in the residential streets nearby (not checked). In summary, a fair place to use as a base for a few days.

One night stay in May 2024. The White Horse is a pub no more than 5 minutes walk from the centre of Ripon and the cathedral. The rooms are converted stables at the back of the pub. The decor is basic and a little tired but if you’re going to book somewhere like this then you mustn’t expect opulence. The staff were friendly and helpful and I would certainly stay here again on a return trip to Ripon.

4-night stay in a Stables Court room, slightly separate to the main building. The room (Room 9), which was housed in a square courtyard filled with baskets of flowers, was clean and tidy with the comfiest of beds. Other places provide you with 1 weedy pillow each - not here - I had 6 pillows and cushions all to myself, for a blissful night's sleep. The White Horse is ideally situated for the pretty city centre, being 5 minutes walk away, but also 10 minutes drive in the other direction and you're into the lush Yorkshire countryside. Parking onsite is a bit of a squeeze, but the quiet streets surrounding the property were freely available and I had no qualms leaving my car there, overnight. Breakfast may appear to be limited compared to other properties, but who needs croissants and endless varieties of exotic fruits. There were boxed cereals, fresh orange juice, tea/coffee, toast and the heartiest of cooked-to-order English breakfasts. Again, the golden touch was there - Other properties give you one butter sachet, and you have to carefully divide that over 4 slices of toast. Not here - a bowl full of butter portions, so I could lather the toast to my heart's content. All in all, I had a cracking little stay, and will definitely use The White Horse again, if I'm in the area, and you should too.

Solo trip with the dog. Very friendly easy check in and cute accommodation in an old stable yard. When I was shown the room the main light didn't work but I said it didn't matter as the bedside and bathroom lights were fine. Very convenient with the dog to nip out for a quick pee rather than walking through a hotel. Car park small but parked ok and felt safe. I left early for and no one was around yo check out so ended up leaving door unlocked and key inside. Good value for money.

It was in a quiet location. I asked 3 times before I received an invoice. I spoke to a staff member about the fact the toilet didn’t flush properly which wasn’t fixed and meant I only dared wee in it! Both the cold and hot tap had boiling water coming out of them. I only drink tap water so I asked for bottled water (which I was given) I also bought more. It was very dark I the corner where the closest and kettle was. I meant I had to use the torch on my phone to make a coffee. The bed was very soft and as a result my back hurt every morning. Finally, the room had a smart TV but no internet connection.

Absolutely appalling, the tiny room smells of damp and is essentially a health risk with mouldy ceilings and one very rusty oil heater. Dimly lit bathroom which again is another risk. We removed ourselves from the hotel (probably wrong choice of word) and booked ourselves into a hotel in the centre, Wetherspoons Hotel was fabulous. I raised with Hotels.com who had failed to help with my refund request.

The high point of this property is definitely the staff, who are lovely and helpful. It's also a very short walk to the centre of town, which is great. Unfortunately the room itself was simply okay - cracked skylight, bathroom sink light not working, no window for ventilation. I'd likely loocfor something else next time im in town.

No breakfast included but price remained the same. Rooms smelt musty. Furniture falling apart. Cobwebs. No remote for tv so was unable to use it as you needed the remote to operate the tv. Staff pleasant enough

Room stank and shower didn’t work properly

The room we had was warm and clean but the whole place had a neglected air about it. The toilet did not flush very well.

The worst place I have ever stayed in my life. Filthy, run down hole! The blood on the emergency light was a nice touch! Honestly, was like a bush tucker trial.

Needs refurbishing, the rooms have really bad damp and smell awful. It’s a shame as they could be lovely rooms.

It was little more than a pub. No food. Small room. Remote from main building. FAR TOO expensive considering that food had to be bought as extra in the town. The price taken at £301. was more than had been quoted on booking.

Room was clean and spacious, but beds uncomfortable with broken springs. WiFi not available in the room. Advertised free breakfast was not included. Very tiny car park. Friendly staff.

Our mattress was obviously upside down so we were lying on springs just under the surface! We didn’t work this out until the morning - staff were very apologetic. No parking issues. Absolutely terrible. I booked this venue on the basis of excellent reviews and I'm either assuming we were given the worst room there or the reviews are fake. Room was filthy, cobwebs over ceiling, filthy bed base, mould spores in shower, dust everywhere and I have taken photos for evidence. The room was absolutely tiny, to the point the phrase big enough to swing a cat is a mockery. I didnt get more than an hours sleep, between the two girls next door giggling and singing until 2am and the extremely poor mattress I got next to no sleep. The walls separating us to other rooms were paper thin, I do appreciate these used to be stables and have been hand made but very poor. The shower door handle came off as I opened it, the smell from the toilet was god awful...I'm guessing I'm not the first to mention as there was an air freshener placed directly next to it on the floor. The TV controller wouldn't work so we had no choice of watching tv, except ITV1. No wi-fi at the property which is a basic these days. I am extremely disappointed and will be seeking a full refund. The bar was completely locked up by the time we returned from dinner at 20:30 however I was advised this may be the case if its quiet. Alarm bells began ringing when locals we spoke to seemed to show sympathy when we said we was staying at the White Horse. The only saving grace was the women at the bar dealing with punters and hotel guests, she was so helpful, friendly and overall just a pleasure to speak to.

Was booking a stay for June 20 2026. Somehow it booked me in for Oct 31 2025 (the day I was going through the process). I immediately contacted Hotels.com who understood the issue contacted the Hotel but the hotel manager refused to cancel the booking- mean spirit and lacking in understanding what goodwill can do for future business.

No room available despite having e mail hour before to say they were expecting us and an email after asking how was our stay. Disgusting me and my disabled partner were 6 hrs away from home with no where to sleep for the night.

Comfortable room, good breakfast, small car but able to park in nearby street.

It is perfectly located for the centre of Ripon and the lady checking us in was lovely. The room itself felt and smelt damp, the beds were not very comfortable and we couldn’t cover the window to make it dark which was an issue when getting our 1 year old to sleep. All that being said we would definitely stay there again because it made visiting Ripon on a tight budget possible and if we hadn’t had our daughter with us none of the above would have been an issue.

Ok for price handy for city centre

The hotel was in a good position for Ripon’s attractions ie the cathedral and the old town with its cafes and eating facilities. The rooms were fresh looking and away from the pub in a separate stable block and were self contained but as the property had just been taken over and the pub itself was being refurbished I can’t comment on the food etc .

Room booked for a work trip, after a long drive i was informed no food available as restaurant not open. no breakfast either. Room very poor condition Disturbed in the evening - loud shouting at children and pet dog.

No breakfast as advertized on hotels.com. manager daid this problem has been in place for a year. Yep, thats a long while for people to be mis-sold. Manager blamed head office and the agent. Said we needed to pay full.price and then claim back lack of a free breakfast. My advice. Dont book hete simply stay elsewhere. Plus the room had three air fresheners in it and they could not mask the bad drain smell. Shame, as the bed was comfortable and ripon has a lot of charactor
