Once this probably was a nice shabby chic hotel. Due to lack of maintenance it’s lost all the ‘chic’ and is now only shabby. Cannot speak for every room but ours was definitely in need of a thorough refurbishment. No complains about cleaning. It was tidy enough. Good location with walking distance to the historical centre. Small garage available if you are driving. Need to be booked in advance. Advise to the owner. With a reasonable investment you can develop the garden. Renovate the rooms were it matters. Shower/wc. An uplift on the facade would also help.

Das Charme Hotel Hancelot ist leider schon in die Jahre gekommen. Schade. Auch aus einem denkmalgeschützten Haus kann man den Charme der Vergangenheit wiederbeleben. Das Frühstück ist ok. Leider mussten wir unser Auto in einem nahegelegenen Parkhaus unterbringem. 10min zufuß.

This property does not have air conditioning even though it says it does. The breakfast was great. The hotel is old and needs a bit of a touch up. We thought it could have been cleaner. We liked the location for walking to things to see and do.

I enjoyed my stay at the Charme Hotel Hancelot. Check-in was easy and the service was terrific. When they told me my room was on the top floor and there was no elevator, they offered to help carry my suitcase to my room. My room was clean and comfortable. My only suggestion would be for a new mattress as the one in my room was a bit too soft. Otherwise a wonderful stay and I would happily choose this hotel again!

I enjoyed my stay at the Charme Hotel Hancelot. Check-in was easy and the service was terrific. The hotel was a little walk away from the town centre, and our room was up a few flights of stairs, but the overall stay was nice. The breakfast was outstanding - one of the best buffet breakfasts on our trip!

This property does not have a lift. It would be good if Hotels.com asked properties without lifts to make possible guests aware of this fact. I travelled with a friend who has mobility limitation and this is not a good place to stay for people with difficulties going up or down stairs, particularly if the staircase is dark.

Hotel is quaint, in a period building with high ceilings and creaky floorboard. Staff were helpful, parking in their garage convenient, and the neighbourhood was quiet. TV didnt work, nor the Bathroom light, but the receptionist fixed the latter and we didn't bother to mention the TV. Main negative was the very bad smell from the drains in the bathroom, and the lack of air con.

Es liegt stadtnah und trotzdem ruhig. Wer einen Parkplatz benötigt, sollte dies bei der Buchung mitteilen. Trotzdem ich es nicht gesagt hatte, wurde trotzdem umorganisiert und mir problemlos geholfen. Es war richtig schön dort.

When style and theme becomes authentic. The theme and style of this hotel is really cool, with the integration with the medieval town of Ghent. But, as much as the hotel wants to be high-class the same the hotel fails. The bathroom was looking very stylish, but the windows could not be opened as they are rotten. The shower is a bathtub build into the floor, but unfortunately the water temperature is almost impossible to control - either burning or ice cold. In addition the shower head needs cleaning from calcium, as a lot of water end on the floor, which is not falling towards a drain, meaning lake on the floor. The toilet is covered by a coating that makes it look like made from small stones, where the coating is not destroyed. In the lounge the sofa was dirty, and the louver desperately needs cleaning. The bedroom was ok, however no view through the window, and the hangers are the cheapest quality possible. The rooms, windows, floors and in general scream for maintenance. This is not any longer a theme, this was very authentic. Very sad, because the concept is fantastic. The service at the hotel is kind and great people - which of cause contributes a lot keeping the stay acceptable.

Goed te bereiken met openbaar vervoer. Vooral binnen een charmant gebouw met veel authentieke details, inclusief krakende houten vloeren (toch is het hotel stil). Late incheck was keurig geregeld na telefonisch contact. Bed sliep goed, hygiëne kan wat beter.

'Charmant' betekent in dit hotel: rotte kozijnen, vuile gordijnen, niet sluitende ramen, 19e eeuws sanitair, lekkende kranen, krakende vloeren, niet-werkende TV. Bed was OK, ontbijt was prima, dus gelukkig alsnog geen slecht verblijf, maar niet gedoucht door het museale, slecht werkende badkamersysteem.

De kamer zelf viel helaas wat tegen (Wij hadden de kamer met het "inloop bad". Wat lichten waren kapot, en soms zelfs het glad ervan ook, waardoor draden open en bloot in een vochtige badkamer hingen. Ook was de kamer nog erg stoffig bij ons bezoek. In de hoeken van de kamer en onder het bed was er al een tijdje niet gestofzuigd. Echter het personeel en het ontbijt was hartstikke goed. Het hotel is op een kwartiertje lopen van het centrum, en we mochten onze auto 2 uur langer laten staan dan eigenlijk gereserveerd was. Aan service en vriendelijkheid geen gebrek!

Ein Haus mit Charme aus der Zeit um 1870...leider in 1D durchgelegene Matratzen und ein stark renovierungsbedürftiges Bad, Fenster stark dreckig, Vorhänge dreckig und kaputt, Abflussgeruch vom Bad...positiv die großzügigen Räume und das ehemals schöne Mobiliar. Morbider Charme, der bei Sanitärräumen dringend eine Renovierung braucht. Die Zimmer an der Treppe hören die knarrenden Stufen - charmant oder störend, hängt von der Tiefe des Schlafes ab. Frühstück gut und vom Preis angemessen ebenso, wie das Personal sehr freundlich, herzlich und hilfsbereit ist.

Not clean (bathroom had broken glass and missing a glass door in the shower). Room is in need of maintenance, not limited to paint, broken light(also glass) and smell of old sewer system. Staff is really friendly and try their best, but the owner really needs to invest a love in the place.

Great little hotel - shabby chic, good fresh breakfast - only slight downside was it can be a little noisy due to to old wooden floor boards but for me this adds even more character to this lovely building- would definitely stay again - around 10 mins walk to the centre of Ghent

Very nice place to arrive to and is in a good location. Building is beautiful and old, but this naturally makes it pretty loud, you hear footsteps above etc. Room itself was nice but bathroom could do with a refurb.

Interesting character property that could probably do with a bit of a refresh. The room was a good size, with a comfortable bed. A couple of minor flaws, wiring was visible on the ceiling light, and the window frames had seen better days. I will probably stay elsewhere next time I am in Ghent.

Hotel tres bien placé, dans une rue calme à 10 min du centre ville. Chambre spacieuse de style debut de siecle (xxeme). Tres agréable. Petit dejeuner copieux.

Ein Hotel recht nah an Gent. Zu Fuß 15 Min., mit der Bahn 3 Min. Große Zimmer, allerdings im 2. Stock sehr steile Treppen. Tolles Frühstück, schöne alte Möbel überall, leider ist der Garten mit Sitzplätzen in keinem guten Zustand. Charme hat das Hotel ganz viel.

Ein Hotel recht nah an Gent. Zu Fuß 15 Min., mit der Bahn 3 Min. Große Zimmer, allerdings im 2. Stock sehr steile Treppen. Tolles Frühstück, schöne alte Möbel überall, leider ist der Garten mit Sitzplätzen in keinem guten Zustand. Charme hat das Hotel ganz viel.

Staff were very friendly . It is an old building but reasonably clean . Rooms very spacious but the mattress was so soft. A bit tired and needs some tlc and a wee lick of paint . The breakfast was amazing and plenty of choice .

I enjoyed my stay at the Charme Hotel Hancelot. Check-in was easy and the service was terrific. When they told me my room was on the top floor and there was no elevator, they offered to help carry my suitcase to my room. My room was clean and comfortable. My only suggestion would be for a new mattress as the one in my room was a bit too soft. Otherwise a wonderful stay and I would happily choose this hotel again!

Es liegt stadtnah und trotzdem ruhig. Wer einen Parkplatz benötigt, sollte dies bei der Buchung mitteilen. Trotzdem ich es nicht gesagt hatte, wurde trotzdem umorganisiert und mir problemlos geholfen. Es war richtig schön dort.

Det får vores bedste anbefalinger. Det er gammelt og utroligt charmerende. Ja, standen kan godt være bedre nogle steder, men det vigtigste er, at den gamle, charmerende stil og bygningens historie bliver bevaret. Det er netop denne charme, der giver en ekstra oplevelse i sig selv, når man besøger Gent. Og mange besøger netop Gent for historien. Personalet er meget venlige og vil gerne gøre lidt ekstra for, at gæsten får en god oplevelse. Dette er ikke et ligegyldigt hotel, man glemmer – det er et historisk hotel, man husker. Så vores bedste anbefaling!

Not clean (bathroom had broken glass and missing a glass door in the shower). Room is in need of maintenance, not limited to paint, broken light(also glass) and smell of old sewer system. Staff is really friendly and try their best, but the owner really needs to invest a love in the place.

Great little hotel - shabby chic, good fresh breakfast - only slight downside was it can be a little noisy due to to old wooden floor boards but for me this adds even more character to this lovely building- would definitely stay again - around 10 mins walk to the centre of Ghent

A beautiful period property situated on the outskirts a few tram stops away from the centre. Staff effecient but little more. Room was found clean but massively let down by the lack of housekeeping. Towels never changed or even picked up off the floor. Consumables like water and tea-bags not replenished. Plug missing from hand-basin. Requested one from reception but nithing happened. Breakfast was varied and adequate but ran out if late and not replenished. Will we go back again? Not sure!

The hotel was a little walk away from the town centre, and our room was up a few flights of stairs, but the overall stay was nice. The breakfast was outstanding - one of the best buffet breakfasts on our trip!

Staff were very friendly . It is an old building but reasonably clean . Rooms very spacious but the mattress was so soft. A bit tired and needs some tlc and a wee lick of paint . The breakfast was amazing and plenty of choice .

Very nice small hotel! Breakfast was amazing. The room was comfortable, the area is beautiful, and we happened upon a small festival in the city center. We plan to stay again if we are ever in Ghent in the future!

This hotel needs a refresh. It had recently opened for the season and smelled a bit stale. The room allegedly had aircon but it wasn't very effective. The shower was the smallest space I have ever willingly put myself into. The staff were friendly and helpful. My husband enjoyed breakfast but I'm vegetarian and putting cheese on the same plate as meat is not something I'm comfortable with, especially when only one fork was put out and I watched other guests use it for both meat and cheese. They did offer cooked eggs though which was welcome and tasty. The fruit was lovely though and fresh bread was delicious. It is a budget hotel and you get a budget environment.

On the day of my reservation, I arrived at the hotel and no one answered the door or the phone. I returned to the property later and had the same result. I eventually found someone working in a garage bay and he told me the hotel was closed for renovations and that my reservation should have been cancelled. I immediately contacted Orbitz support and they said the hotel wasn't answering the phone. I had to book last-minute accommodations elsewhere. I sent a message to the hotel through Orbitz and never got a response. Nearly a month later, I still have no refund. Orbitz claims they need permission from the hotel, and apparently the hotel denied the refund request.

Dit hotel is vervallen en dringend toe aan renovatie. Rolluik werkt niet, gordijn hangt niet in de rails, wifi werkt traag, tv soms wel soms niet. Bed versleten, kraan badkamer lekt….. personeel is heel vriendelijk en ontbijt goed!
