Stayed here because it was the last room available in this area of Cape Breton. A little farther from Sydney than I would’ve wanted, but that’s not their goal. Facilities are very clean and shower was great! Easy parking and super convenient for golfing and skiing. Great mini condo with completely full kitchen. Nicer than my apartment!

Our suite was extremely comfortable and well equipped except for the TV. They do not provide too many channels to watch or offer the ability to use your own Netflix. The walls are paper thin. We could hear the people across the hall from us as if they were in the hall right outside our door. The Reception area leaves a lot to be desired. Just a emply room when you walk in the front door with some stuff being stored in the corners. You check in thru the Pro shop. Very low class for a place that seems to be trying to promote 5* resort.

We didn’t come for the golf, which is probably why most people stay at Ben Eoin. Without that attraction, the ‘resort’ really offers very little. No pool, gym, spa, walking trails - nothing. The room is huge, but lacks modern convenience. It’s not possible to access streaming services on TV so you are stuck with the regular cable offerings. The door has a key lock which was extremely temperamental to open. Bathroom supplies were limited to shards of soap and four tiny shampoo bottles. We didn’t get coffee for the first night, etc etc. To be considered a top quality resort property, Ben Eion needs to step up its game - oh, and tell the Golf Pro to stop leaving his Corvette on the turn around! He’s not that special!

The chalet was beautiful. Super clean, nice decor and beds were comfy. Water pressure was a little low but not terrible. Tons of parking( although it was offseason there would still be more than enough even if fully booked). would definitely stay again.

I promise I never write a bad review and I am fairly easy to please. However, our stay at this hotel was not what we had hoped for. My heart goes out to the staff who did try to fill our needs but could not under the seasonal requirements. Cleanliness was our biggest issue. We found dirty underwear and socks in the pull out couch which had not been cleaned prior to our visit. When this was brought to the staff’s attention the only direction we were given was to file a complaint with the manager the next week as none were available at our time. The advertisement on booking sites needs to be updated during the winter as room service and dining are not available in the off season from Monday to Wednesday. We were told this on arrival. Where the hotel is 25 min out of the city, there is little else to do for meals unless the ski hill next door is open. Also the hotel staff had to make one of their microwaves available for us to heat food as there are none in the rooms. So there is little access to food at night during the winter months. The building is fairly new and the rooms are very spacious. My family enjoyed the location. In the prime season this would likely be a nice spot to stay.

Very large room. Great jetted tub. Very clean. Excellent bed. The food in the dining room was excellent and good value. Really appreciated James’ food and wine suggestions and personally getting us ice for our room as soon as he seen us with the ice bucket. The view is lovely from the chairs on the deck.

Great area. Friendly staff. However Expedia charged me an extra guest fee they couldn’t help me with. We got the wrong room. But was fixed. The big disappointment was no housekeeping!!! No beds were done no trash cleaning. Toilet kept running had to lift lid and play with chain to fix it. Also no breakfast included. Don’t think I’ll be coming back to this place.

It is a beautiful place to stay, the room we had was huge, two queen beds, very quiet, staff was terrific! The only draw back we were farther away from the ferry than we were lead to believe, no matter, we arrived in plenty of time! Would stay again!

My wife and I cannot begin to express our appreciation for the treatment we received at The Lakes in the past few days. Kevin Piercey, the GM, and Ann went above and beyond to help us in a time of family loss. They accommodated us so that we could check in early on our way to Sydney for a family service and ensured we had everything we needed in one of their beautifully-appointed, spacious chalets. We stayed there two weeks ago for another family matter and they were just as pleasant and welcoming. Having stayed on a number of occasions in the past few years to enjoy the beautifully groomed and scenic golf course (it should be rated in Score Golf's top 100 in Canada) and Founder's Restaurant, it is nice to see consistently high performance adding to one's enjoyment. We would recommend The Lakes to anyone who wants to receive good old Cape Breton hospitality at a resort that offers wonderful golf, skiing, and views of the Bras d'Or Lakes. The folks there make it that much more enjoyable. Thank you, Kevin and Ann!

We stayed for four days. On arrival the toilet did not work properly, kept running. Advised the front desk and no one ever came to fix it, we were told he wasn’t working. They were unable to understand the problem and never came to investigate. We had to take the top off the tank to stop the running. The bathroom sink was missing stopper. The curtains were inadequate to cover the windows at night. The restaurant served mediocre food. There is no breakfast unless you walk over to the golf area and get something there. No one ever came to clean the room or replenish supplies. Lack of hospitality was astounding for such a resort.

Friendly and accommodating staff. Probably needed more staff in restaurant. With golf tournament people and our group of 20 eating at same time, we felt sorry for the staff who were trying to make it work well for us. Also, really appreciated getting a load of my laundry done.

Very quiet. Reasonably priced stay at a very safe clean location. A car is required and proximity is good to Sydney area facilities. Fully met our needs with off peak season options. VV good.

I arrived after dark and had phoned for directions. I missed the symbol sign and was looking for the full name. Finding the chalet in the dark took a little extra time, knocking on B when I had A. A group of women were in the golf room collecting prizes. I did not know where to check in. Finally the person in the golf room stated check in was there and after everyone got their prizes I was able to check in. Chalet was lovely.

Stayed here because it was the last room available in this area of Cape Breton. A little farther from Sydney than I would’ve wanted, but that’s not their goal. Facilities are very clean and shower was great! Easy parking and super convenient for golfing and skiing. Great mini condo with completely full kitchen. Nicer than my apartment!

Very friendly staff, beautiful views,a golfers paradise. Not much to do unless your a golfer, room was big with great views, the only drawback was no fridge in the room.

We only stayed one night. If it were earlier in the season we would have definitely played golf. Looks like a great course. Dining room was great, delicious food, great staff and entertainment.

Very large room. Great jetted tub. Very clean. Excellent bed. The food in the dining room was excellent and good value. Really appreciated James’ food and wine suggestions and personally getting us ice for our room as soon as he seen us with the ice bucket. The view is lovely from the chairs on the deck.

The only issue was the restaurant was not open and we had to drive over 20km to find a restaurant for dinner and again the next morning for Breakfast.

Book a chalet vs a room. No curtain on one window. Shower pressure wasn’t good. Washed dishes left in dishwasher. Chalet was fairly large and pretty quiet. It was reasonably clean. Lacking in basic stuff for cooking and heating/air conditioner never worked. On site restaurant is very good.

We were unsure about what to expect for the price we paid for the room but were very pleasantly surprised. The room was lovely, the bed was very comfortable, and the shower was fantastic once we found out how to set it up! Restaurant was very good as well! Best club I've ever had! We will be back if we are ever in the area again. Highly recommend.

For the 20 minute drive to Sydney this was a great place to stay with huge rooms. So much better for travelling with a family. Didn’t eat in the restaurant as we were gone during the day but it looked like it would be great.

Convenient & scenic location at half the rate of nearby Sydney hotels was how we found this place but now we're telling friends to stay here because WOW. Room was huge, bright, and well-stocked. Lounge food was great. Coffee & breakfast outbuilding was excellent with a very friendly, helpful staffer. Highly recommend!
