This is a gem. Spacious, comfortable rooms with a stunning view from the balcony. Lush grounds with jungle trails. Infinity pool, pool table, games. Lovely restaurant with a varied menu and gorgeous view of Arenal Lake and Volcano. A welcome change from the sterile all inclusive vibe. Authentic Costa Rican experience.

Beautiful property with Lake and Volcano views (weather permitting ;) and restaurant (many selections), pool, hot tubs and trails, gym, lobby (with garden and games). Up/down a winding road, we rarely drove after dark. Helpful front desk, especially the gentleman with (grey?) glasses, who connected our young family with a lovely zipline and hot springs experience. Would stay again! Possibly closer to amenities in rainy season.

The hotel was amazing along with the staff. The grounds and views were beautiful! An authentic beautiful place. The view from our junior suite was the best I’ve seen in Costa Rica. And the massages in the spa were fantastic.

This was a really nice, private, quiet hotel with a great view of the volcano. We took a horse ride that was really fun and the view from the top was amazing! I would also recommend the massage. It was a super relaxing atmosphere and the staff was so friendly.

The meals were fantastic! The view of the volcano spectacular - especially from the infinity pool or jacuzzi at sunset! They even had plastic wine glasses to enjoy happy hour outside. Breakfast included was delicious. Very big suite with fridge. Trails with wildlife right on property. Staff was so friendly and helpful.

This property is deceiving!!!! Travelers beware!! The address listed is not the address to the hotel. It takes an additional 10 minutes up a very dangerous mountain road to reach the hotel. Their rooms are extremely dated and old. Travelers stay away! Complete false advertisement. When we arrived, we were told the hot tub was not working. We asked for some type of accommodation or compensation for the inconvenience and they refused to accommodate us. We didn't stay for our second night due to the disappointment and their deceitful ways. They refused to refund us for our last night stay even though we canceled 24hours prior to leaving. Don't stay here!! The photos are completely deceiving and inaccurate. They won't refund you if anything is not as expected. Complete disappointment.

Unique vibe in this place! The bar, the restaurant and 7 rooms including our are in a 1881 building with beautiful wood all around and a very special feel! They built a big roof over this and other building so the lobby feel like you're inside and outside at the same time! Pool and jacuzzi were nice and they have trails around to enjoy the nature and the view. It's too bad we can't see the volcano often because of the clouds. You should definitely try to be there when you can see it. Awesome view!! Service was great and we enjoyed the food at their restaurant a lot!

EXTREMELY UNDERRATED SPOT!!! soooo beautiful! the only thing is specific rooms are farther away from the main lounge area or pool/hot tub spots. apart from that, hidden gem!

Our stay at the lodge was wonderful! It’s an older property with lots of charm. Views are beautiful! Room was large and we loved time on the balcony in the hanging chair. Board games and chess and checkers for some good family time. Pool was beautiful and chilly for those hot days. Restaurant had good food and the team was flexible with times (we came in at 2 after activities and they served us lunch, which was much appreciated!). Loved our stay! Saw coati, hummingbirds, lots of cool insects and a tayra on property. Recommend driving to the lodge in the daylight. Very close to Mistico Hanging Bridges.

It was very quiet and beautiful, and the staff were kind and helpful. The room was a good size and it was nice having a seating area at the front patio. However, the room was dark and there was no fan in the bathroom, so our room felt damp alot of the time.

Absolutely beautiful views of the volcano from our hotel room, the main building and most of the property. The facility is very clean, the staff are very nice and the premises is very, very charming! We love that there’s trails on site that you can hike. One takes you through the rainforest and the other through their history. Incredible location - definitely coming back!

Terrible el servicio, no hay quien te atienda, la habitación llena de bichos, cucarachas, arañas, terrible y que no me pude quedar a dormir porque era espantoso la cantidad de bichos, no bajé ni mis maletas, acudí a recepción y nadie me atendió, no había nadie

My family and I stayed for 3 nights in one of the chalets recently and enjoyed our stay. The grounds are beautiful and the view from the chalet and the pool area was stunning. The hotel is about 20-30 mins outside of La Fortuna so a bit inconvenient if you don’t have a car rental as there are no restaurants around except for at the hotel (which was okay). The views and the grounds made up for this inconvenience. Front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly. I would consider returning.

The property at Arenal lodge is located and designed as a mountain lodge which is the reason, we booked it. However, we realized on arrival that is away from many of the establishments at La Fortuna including dining options. The drive from the security entrance to the property is a challenge and not advisable for tourists who do not have a 4x4 full sized SUV. The road to the property from the entrance gate is dark, steep, and susceptible to accidents at dark. The property is above average and is due for some major renovations. The view is fantastic, and the breakfast was very good. Now for the most disappointing part of our stay had to do with : 1. The lights in the room were dim and made it hard to read or look for things in our bags. Rooms need improved lighting, plugs/outlets on the wall etc. 2. The fan was slow and not enough to keep the room cool. 3. We could not keep the doors and windows open as the place was surrounded by bugs, lizards. Some of which were in the room and made the night sleep for us very uncomfortable. As much as we enjoy nature, we like for the bugs to stay in their ecosystem and for the rooms to be free or roaches, lizards etc. For the price we paid which is around $215 USD (incl. breakfast) I would look for resort like stays near La Fortuna and avoid this place if possible.

We had the best time staying at Hotel Arenal Lodge. The room was very clean and spacious and the view from the balcony was breathtaking. The property also has several trails to explore, as well as a garden filled with many different types birds.The road up to the hotel is narrow and steep but totally worth it. Highly recommend this hotel!!!

The staff at the hotel was very friendly, and the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the Casado with chicken, one of the local dishes. The beef meals were also very good. Desserts, the coconut flan and brownie with ice cream, were fantastic. Exceptional view of the volcano and there are tons of birds on property. We really enjoyed seeing them when eating and around the pool. Rooms were clean with air conditioning, and lots of amenities.

Very nice & quiet property, reminded us of a retreat. It is very isolated and therefore very relaxing. It's about 30 minutes from La Fortuna, and the drive up to the hotel is very rough and steep. You won't want to come & go very much as it's a bit inconvenient. The hotel itself is pretty old and dated, but our room was very big and clean. The staff were very friendly.

The entire hotel is extremely outdated. Some parts might have a charm but you our (junior suite) was extremely humid and cold, even during Februrary. The windows were broken and could not me closed. When we asked about a heater they offered more blankets (we were already using two). The room was dark but clean. Low rating for the price, it is overpriced.
The entire hotel is extremely outdated. Some parts might have a charm but you our (junior suite) was extremely humid and cold, even during Februrary. The windows were broken and could not me closed. When we asked about a heater they offered more blankets (we were already using two). The room was dark but clean. Low rating for the price, it is overpriced.

It was very quiet and beautiful, and the staff were kind and helpful. The room was a good size and it was nice having a seating area at the front patio. However, the room was dark and there was no fan in the bathroom, so our room felt damp alot of the time.

We stayed in the older part of the hotel and while the view was amazing, the walls were paper thin. You could hear complete conversations of the parties in the other rooms as well as any additional noises. The property is very close to Hanging Bridges Park and is within 20 minutes of any other food or items you may need.

I love the location , the views of the volcano , the eco friendliness , the staff was amazing , the room cleaning was very good kuddos to mine but I cant remember the name. However this place needs some remodeling in the rooms, it looks old and outdated , thanks god for the view. The amenities inside the room was ok , small kitchenette with some supplies coffee etc , the bathroom outdated it seriously need a touch. I stayed on chalet 102 right in the top of the mountain. Thank you

It was a beautiful property and we felt very secluded. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I wish the internet connection would have worked and maybe some tv channels in English for when it's raining outside and we're stuck inside.

We had honeymoon suite #220. This was probably the most fancy suite I have ever stayed. It was a separate house, the last one, on the hill. We had glass windows from top to bottom on one of the walls and partial glass on the other two looking out to the jungle. There was a private jacuzzi inside the room with a very cool area to chill after. I loved the room. The breakfast was very mediocre. The dinner was just ok. The grounds of the hotel have jungle trails but it rained the whole time and we walked just for a bit. Now, here is what you don’t read and what they don’t advertise- the hotel is about 2 kilometres from the main road. It is kind of paved road but will only fit one car at a time. It takes about 15 min to get up to the hotel and 15 min to get down. It is not a pleasure ride what’s so ever. Because it was raining and we only stayed for one night, we literally just stayed in the hotel and didn’t drive to town to explore. We just didn’t want to drive that driveway again, especially at night. Not sure if any tour companies will even pick up from that hotel. Didn’t ask but maybe so for an extra charge.

When we checked in there was a lady that helped us and she was phenomenal. However a male checked us out and he was abrupt, arrogant and matter of fact with me until my husband came to the counter and he was better but not as mean. The property is gorgeous. The dinner and breakfast service was a bit scrambled and all over the place. The bar service was great. They need more organization and customer service initiatives.

The problem was front desk people they are working till 9 p.m after 9 if u need something or anything happened no one is there to help u. I was insid a room for 2 night water was all over the bed and floor, and bed was wet. After 2 night i was sleep to that kind a room they chang my room last night to another room. And even they didn't refund my money for that 2 night when i was sleeping to the cold atea and wet bed, and wel floor. And price i paid for this place it was too expensive, i saw so many good hotel, even they have hot spring with the lest prices than here.

This hotel was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. The staff were incredibly nice and would check up with us whenever we ran into them. They were extremely accommodating to our needs and also helped us plan different activities. Overall amazing stay but just keep in mind that walking up the road to the hotel is intense and you should probably have some sort of transportation going up!

Arenal Lodge was pure tranquility—secluded, peaceful, and incredibly welcoming. The staff made us feel right at home, and the stillness of the surroundings was unmatched. I had some of the best sleep of my life there. Waking up to a breathtaking view of the volcano from the pool felt surreal—there’s truly nothing like it in the area.

It is an older era quaint property and if you can accept that you will enjoy! Our family played at the pool table one night and had so much fun! It has beautiful private grounds, helpful staff and had a gorgeous view of the volcano from our room. Definitely need a 4x4 car to traverse the steep windy driveway in (there are signs that say “halfway there, trust” lol) but worth it as so private but so close to Fortuna!

Arenal lodge is much further than the main town of La Fortuna so transporting is harder. Most tour companies charge extra to pick/drop from this location. The rooms are outdated and we also felt like there were some unnatural activity like ghosts on the property. One of the nights we stayed, we kept hearing the doors slamming and stomping upstairs. The doors were not visibly slamming so not sure what was going on. We also heard people talking at night but there weren't any additional guests in the area we were staying at. The second night, thankfully, it wasn't so bad. Otherwise, the property is very nice, there is a jungle trail which honestly was so much fun to explore. The reception guy in the AM was very helpful, the guy in the PM was not.

Beautiful property up in the clouds. On clear days you can see the lake. Staff was excellent, front desk was very helpful with recommendations and best ways to see the area. My family and I stayed for 3 nights in one of the chalets recently and enjoyed our stay. The grounds are beautiful and the view from the chalet and the pool area was stunning. The hotel is about 20-30 mins outside of La Fortuna so a bit inconvenient if you don’t have a car rental as there are no restaurants around except for at the hotel (which was okay). The views and the grounds made up for this inconvenience. Front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly. I would consider returning.

The road to the lodge was washed out and we couldn’t get our car up the steep incline with hairpin turns. One of the men had to get our car passed that area but left us to drive the rest of the way up the dangerous road. The view was amazing, but the chalet was dated and old. Staff was amazing but limited.

Always a pleasure staying here. The view when it's not foggy is awesome. Please don't hold the hotel responsible if you don't get to see the view. It's the weather. The rooms are gorgeous. I've stayed here half a dozen times and love it. The people are always wonderful The only negative that I have is the breakfast seems to have gone downhill. Which was a shame because it used to be delicious. The ride from the entrance gate to the actual reception is up a very long steep dark windy hairpin road. But I love that it's part of the adventure. Going up when it's dark could be a little scary but again part of the adventure that I love which is why I keep going back.

The jungle trail on the property was great. We saw a lot of wildlife and plants. The food at the lodge was very good and breakfast included was delicious. We stayed in the Chalet and had amazing views. Overall the property was great but highly recommend checking in during the day due to the 2km drive off the main road to the property.

Beautiful views, if you stay in the rooms on the top of the hill. The view of Arenal is amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful when asked. Good : View, Quiet Environment, Friendly Staff, well maintained gardens Neutral : Vehicle 100% required, Some parts of the hotel clearly need a bit of updating or repair, but mostly not too serious. Bad : Food (not terrible, but not good), Price, should be closer to 100$ per night considering you really have to leave to enjoy the area or get good food, services offered at the hotel front desk are very high, including transportation and tourist activities in the area (this won't impact you if you make arrangements yourself) Overall, if you want to see the view, maybe call ahead and get a drink around sunset there, but otherwise this place is probably not your best option.

The meals were fantastic! The view of the volcano spectacular - especially from the infinity pool or jacuzzi at sunset! They even had plastic wine glasses to enjoy happy hour outside. Breakfast included was delicious. Very big suite with fridge. Trails with wildlife right on property. Staff was so friendly and helpful.

The staff at the hotel was very friendly, and the food was excellent. We really enjoyed the Casado with chicken, one of the local dishes. The beef meals were also very good. Desserts, the coconut flan and brownie with ice cream, were fantastic. Exceptional view of the volcano and there are tons of birds on property. We really enjoyed seeing them when eating and around the pool. Rooms were clean with air conditioning, and lots of amenities.

The distance from main entrance to lobby / reception area was quite far and the road was steep and hilly (took almost 10-15 minutes drive to reach the reception area from the main entrance) . Hotel should have shuttle service for the guests . Not wheel chair accessible. Breakfast portion size was very small and .

This is a gorgeous lodge on a vast property with nothing but nature surrounding you. The views over the Arenal volcano are gorgeous when it isn’t cloudy. The cooked homemade breakfast is delicious and you can watch the birds eating from the feeders right under the windows as you eat. They even have a few trails on property, perfect for all nature lovers.

It is a bit off the beaten path, but worth it. It is in the jungle away from other touriats. We were able to get transportation essily to all the nearby activities. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was good and a number of choices. The restaurant had delicious food available for supper.

The view from the room was absolutely stunning and definitely the highlight of our stay. The room itself was clean and spacious, which worked perfectly for me and my husband. However, there were a few downsides. The room felt a bit dark and outdated, and unfortunately, the bed was not comfortable for my liking. The pillows were also extremely large, which made it difficult for me to sleep. I asked the attendant if there were thinner options available, but I was told there weren’t any, and the response felt dismissive and lacking in care. Breakfast was just okay—nothing particularly memorable. Additionally, the drive up to the hotel was quite intense and challenging, which is something to keep in mind when planning your visit. Overall, while the view and room size were great, the lack of comfort and service made the experience less enjoyable than it could have been.
The view from the room was absolutely stunning and definitely the highlight of our stay. The room itself was clean and spacious, which worked perfectly for me and my husband. However, there were a few downsides. The room felt a bit dark and outdated, and unfortunately, the bed was not comfortable for my liking. The pillows were also extremely large, which made it difficult for me to sleep. I asked the attendant if there were thinner options available, but I was told there weren’t any, and the response felt dismissive and lacking in care. Breakfast was just okay—nothing particularly memorable. Additionally, the drive up to the hotel was quite intense and challenging, which is something to keep in mind when planning your visit. Overall, while the view and room size were great, the lack of comfort and service made the experience less enjoyable than it could have been.
