The room was warm, clean and comfortable. I had a great night's sleep. The hotel itself is conveniently located for Barnsley, Rotherham or Sheffield. There's a Lidl and an ASDA nearby if you need anything, and various late night fast food places in Chapeltown. There's a decent amount of free parking. Make sure you enter through the hotel entrance (on your right as you look at the building)..I arrived in the evening and followed another guest into the left hand entrance and we were stood in the empty bar area for a few mins wondering where everyone was!

Lovely location in quiet village Ample free parking We didn’t get chance to use the pub or restaurant so unable to comment View from room was stunning of the surrounding hills By car it was 10 minutes into Sheffield city centre or 10 minutes to Barnsley or Rotherham Easily accessible from the motorway Nice reception and easy check in with friendly staff Room was huge in size ( room 12) , the negatives were that the kettle was broken , there was no plug in the bath so couldn’t use the bath for the time we were there, no extra pillows available and the room was dated , we did report the issues but they weren’t rectified , if we didn’t have those problems I would’ve easily given a higher review , lots of good points about our stay and the hotel though still

The hotel had apparently changed hands since I booked it. The current owners had only opened 2 weeks before our stay and what they could offer was limited. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The bar was open and they plan to open the restaurant soon. We ate at a local pub which was only a short walk from the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful.Given I had booked the hotel around 4 months ago as it was convenient for a sporting event we were taking part in over Easter weekend, we were relieved that it was open.

Would not recommend, the website states that they have a restaurant but when checking in and enquiring about an evening meal was told they only do breakfast. Breakfast service and quality not good, on the second morning went out for breakfast in a local pub, it was cheaper and much better quality and service. Bed not made and room not cleaned after first night's stay

Disgusted to receive a parking fine despite my car only being there to drop luggage off when checking in and picking up in the morning and as I did put my registration number in the check in form. The room was ok and had been recently renovated but the furniture was old. Stair and hall areas very much in need of renovation. No choice at all for breakfast, full English or full English, nit great.

A truly awful hotel. There was a used BIC razor left in the shower along with previous guests shampoo. The bathroom had not been properly cleaned. Hairs and the previous guests wet bath mat. I had to visit reception to get towels. The receptionist was helpful enough, if not disinterested, and the barman friendly enough. These were the only members of staff I interacted with. I've stayed here twice, but never again. I'm generally happy to give a place a second chance, being an ex-hotelier myself and knowing the difficulties of running a hotel well. But.... On my second visit, I was given a room right at the back end of the hotel, so I got to see a fair bit of it on my way there. The entrance is all quite flashy, but behind that the hotel is very dated, and needs a serious deep clean. There is a bad smell of old grease, the kind you get when a 'restaurant' fries everything and never changes their oil. The worst thing though, was discovering a plaster stuck the bed sheets when I woke up in the morning. No way that would have survived a trip through a washing machine, so the sheets clearly hadn't been cleaned. There was nobody at reception at 7am. The lights were off and nobody answered the telephone number. I couldn't tell them about the problem, or request an invoice for my stay. Tried calling the hotel, but couldn't find a direct number. Complained through hotels.com, and the hotel refused any form of compensation. Hotels.com did offer some OneKey cash which was nice of them to do, but it shouldn't have to be down to them. I won't stay there again. On the plus side, if you risk a night at the Staindrop, there is a very nice pub for a good meal and a pub quiz just 2 mins walk down the road, called The Barrel.

Nice clean room mattress is a bit flat big room quick and easy booking in its a bit expensive food wise pu down the road is ok more food options the nearest shops about 15 mins uphill with a few more pubs but going back to the trainstation there are a quite a few more and restaurants and takeaways

Friendly hotel, staff nice and attentive. However this is let down by the cleanliness of the hotel; dirty carpet, broken bathroom door handle, black mould on the shower curtain to name but a few. I dont think the bathroom was cleaned before our arrival! This could be a nice hotel, reasonably priced but they do need to sort out the issues. Breakfast wasn't great, definitely not worth the money paid. Cold hash browns, cold tin tomatoes, and cold mushrooms. It's a shame as the staff were really nice.

Booked a room including breakfast. Was told in the morning that this is only continental (which was a croissant and juice so not much). Hot breakfast would be nearly £7. This being despite the cost of a room with and without breakfast being £7. I ordered the breakfast and explained to them I had already paid in my room cost. They agreed once they saw nowhere in the advert did it state it was not for the hot food. Bathroom smelled. Bedding was pretty poor. No mattress protectors. The only redeeming feature was its location for me and it was cheap. Wouldn't stay again.

Embarrassing One star is too many, this hotel is a disgrace and the fact it’s marketed as a “Wyndham Trademark collection” is almost hilarious. The 3 rooms I booked were all the same so this clearly isn’t an isolated incident or an oversight. The rooms were filthy, carpets heavily soiled with what looked like blood stains and definitely hadn’t been hoovered in a while, covered in cigarette burns, cobwebs everywhere, damaged furniture, strong smell of vomit, mouldy showroom, damp stains all over the ceiling, broken toilet seat and to top it off the toilet had urine in it on arrival. Simply appalling! Staff when available weren’t approachable or at all welcoming, the check in experience was all a bit vague, to the point where we had to look for our own rooms. No one around at checkout so we simply left. To put it bluntly this place is a shambles and a health hazard, definitely living up to its STAINdrop name

We had booked a one night stay 18th/19th October 2025. We arrived at around 5.30pm on the 18th and were given the key to room 5. Within 30 minutes all the lights went out in our room. We went back to reception and we were told that it would be sorted within 5 minutes. 20 minutes later we still had no lights and we were losing natural light. Again we went to reception and we were told that it would be sorted shortly. We had a pre booked taxi due at 7.15pm and with no light in the room we had to get changed in the communal toilets. We returned to the hotel around midnight and our room had lights and power. This morning we had no hot water in the room therefore could not shower. This again was reported to reception when we checked out. The receptionist promised a call back later in the day to discuss compensation. No call was received. In view of the situation I would ask that a full refund is made.

You get what you pay for I suppose. Property is dated and rub down, windows didn't close, curtains were torn and hanging off the rails, radiators never been bled so had to switch ofd due to horrendous noise. Although it states breakfast is included beware, they will charge £10 each for a full english that is awful and the 'included breakfast' is a croissant and some cereal. There is a subway and big asda just down the road, go there for food!

Leaking bidet in the bathroom that caused a the floor to be covered in water so we were unable to use the bathroom or the toilet. We told the guy in reception but nothing was done about it. Think this place could do with new management who actually want to make it into a proper nice hotel the rooms are plain , outdated , and needs a good spouse up.

The hotel had apparently changed hands since I booked it. The current owners had only opened 2 weeks before our stay and what they could offer was limited. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The bar was open and they plan to open the restaurant soon. We ate at a local pub which was only a short walk from the hotel. A truly awful hotel. There was a used BIC razor left in the shower along with previous guests shampoo. The bathroom had not been properly cleaned. Hairs and the previous guests wet bath mat. I had to visit reception to get towels. The receptionist was helpful enough, if not disinterested, and the barman friendly enough. These were the only members of staff I interacted with. A friend stayed in another room. The sheets had not been cleaned and had bloodstains in them?

We had booked a one night stay 18th/19th October 2025. We arrived at around 5.30pm on the 18th and were given the key to room 5. Within 30 minutes all the lights went out in our room. We went back to reception and we were told that it would be sorted within 5 minutes. 20 minutes later we still had no lights and we were losing natural light. Again we went to reception and we were told that it would be sorted shortly. We had a pre booked taxi due at 7.15pm and with no light in the room we had to get changed in the communal toilets. We returned to the hotel around midnight and our room had lights and power. This morning we had no hot water in the room therefore could not shower. This again was reported to reception when we checked out. The receptionist promised a call back later in the day to discuss compensation. No call was received. In view of the situation I would ask that a full refund is made.

Friendly hotel, staff nice and attentive. However this is let down by the cleanliness of the hotel; dirty carpet, broken bathroom door handle, black mould on the shower curtain to name but a few. I dont think the bathroom was cleaned before our arrival! This could be a nice hotel, reasonably priced but they do need to sort out the issues. Breakfast wasn't great, definitely not worth the money paid. Cold hash browns, cold tin tomatoes, and cold mushrooms. It's a shame as the staff were really nice.

Bloke at the reception was an absolute Nause. Tried to give me and my cousin a different room because he said it was too big. Paid for a Family Room with 2 double beds. The room was warm, clean and comfortable. I had a great night's sleep. The hotel itself is conveniently located for Barnsley, Rotherham or Sheffield. There's a Lidl and an ASDA nearby if you need anything, and various late night fast food places in Chapeltown. There's a decent amount of free parking. Make sure you enter through the hotel entrance (on your right as you look at the building)..I arrived in the evening and followed another guest into the left hand entrance and we were stood in the empty bar area for a few mins wondering where everyone was!

I had an excellent experience during my 3 night stay at this hotel. Zeeshan, in particular, deserves a special mention for being the most wonderful host. He was incredibly professional, courteous and always willing to help with any request – nothing was ever too much trouble for him. Despite the light renovations taking place I did not experience any disturbance at all, which is testament to how well-managed everything was. The hotel’s location is ideal, with plenty of dining options nearby. Additionally, the breakfasts served at the hotel was delightful – a well cooked small feast to start the day. I would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again in the future.

Property is dated and rub down, windows didn't close, curtains were torn and hanging off the rails, radiators never been bled so had to switch ofd due to horrendous noise. Although it states breakfast is included beware, they will charge £10 each for a full english that is awful and the 'included breakfast' is a croissant and some cereal. There is a subway and big asda just down the road, go there for food!

Booked a room including breakfast. Was told in the morning that this is only continental (which was a croissant and juice so not much). Hot breakfast would be nearly £7. This being despite the cost of a room with and without breakfast being £7. I ordered the breakfast and explained to them I had already paid in my room cost. They agreed once they saw nowhere in the advert did it state it was not for the hot food. Bathroom smelled. Bedding was pretty poor. No mattress protectors. The only redeeming feature was its location for me and it was cheap. Wouldn't stay again.

Disgusted to receive a parking fine despite my car only being there to drop luggage off when checking in and picking up in the morning and as I did put my registration number in the check in form. The room was ok and had been recently renovated but the furniture was old. Stair and hall areas very much in need of renovation. Given room keys and once up 2 flights of stairs opened door and room had not been cleaned from previous occupants! Went back down and given another room anf again up two flights of stairs the room was in the same state and not be cleaned or beds changed. Parking OK. This was booked as a Delux Room with breakfast: No toilet paper, no cups, no glasses, no Internet connection, no coat hangers, no iron, no ironing board, no hair dryer, no mirror in main room, no bin in room, no vanity bin in bathroom, no bath/shower mat. Finally, no breakfast despite receiving email saying we could upgrade from a continental to a full English for £10 each - there was no breakfast available at all. I had to ask at reception for the toilet paper, cups and glasses and was told no breakfast the kitchen is being renovated, ask for a refund for the breakfast. Reception was not manned at all times, there was a notice asking customers to call a mobile number and be patient for someone to arrive. At least the bedding and towels were clean. The carpet needed a vacuum and we could not double lock the key card activated door as the lock was faulty. All in all very disappointing.

Reception was not manned at all times, there was a notice asking customers to call a mobile number and be patient for someone to arrive. At least the bedding and towels were clean. The carpet needed a vacuum and we could not double lock the key card activated door as the lock was faulty. All in all very disappointing.
